Most of you fail to realize you can't sell console on and on without selling games. That's why the Wii is a fail in some regards. That's why Sony and MS earned more money than Nintendo this generation. Mario and Zelda games not breaking the Million sales in no time? Laughable.
This thing isn't a fail for gamers, but it's a fail for Nintendo. Anyone remembering Wii Motion Plus never really has taken off cause it just were/is an peripherical device the 3rd partys resist to support. Addons changing a console's standard will always result in splitting the audience in two groups: the one having it and the one not having it. Naturally, the customers not owning the new device will always outnumber the other group, so most companies decide not to use the new device or only will support it to a non-relevant amount, causing the device lose more and more significance. In short: I don't "hate" this thing as a gamer (I will buy it), but I already perfectly know it won't be of any importance in the long run. Strange decisions like batteries, locked in a screwed compartment don't help either.
It's all nice and so, but capcom japan has the last word. I don't care anymore what western representatives have to say except concrete announcements; they mostly are more ill- or non-informed than most of us gamers.
Although its real time footage, it's still a trailer, hence all the camera angles and the player doing his thing there. We don't know yet what we are actually supposed to do in this environment. Maybe escaping, maybe just the opposite: following the monster to its hidden lair.
Well, I never thought this looked very well if it were pre-calculated stuff. But if this is actually the gameplay-engine without enhancements it looks ok for being on the 3DS.
@zezzy: You ever have seen a MH cinematic sequence without the hunters running from the monsters...? This movie may feature the ingame gameplay, but it doesnt necessarily mean you have to play like the dude did.
There is still too much running away from the monsters in this movie, but at least we get an epic GS upswing connecting with Great Jaggi's chin (don't do this in Multiplayer kids).
Canceled my order: the item terror is worse and more random than ever. No word about that issue in your review, NL. MK's Item balance is a big issue among gamers. You should have mentioned it. I will never buy again any MK if it keeps up this totaly inbalanced blue shell of/flash/... formula.
@36: I'm a grown up peson with a job and family. If I invest about 20h into a game and it's still just plain and with padding, with no flavor and gameplay flow, that's reason enough to dislike it and go on. No credit roll after 10 hrs more will change the fact that this game does not grab me. Maybe Xenoblade spoild me because it does so many things so much better.
And stop bringing PS360 into play if you don't like people complaining about the poor graphics engine: I have no other console, just Wii and 3DS. I have no problem appreciating the visuals of SMG, MH3, even Xenoblade (and WW); SS on the other side has no art style to speak of and no useful post processing to improve the visuals. Even the distant blur still does not stop the pixilation.
Maybe with the Wii U Nintendo will realize powerful hardware is not just for the extra texture resolution, it actually can help providing bigger, more detailed, immersive worlds with less loading and better AI; in general: an improved gameplay experience.
''Comparing it to games you replay over and over again: In those (non-Monster Hunter) games, you're always willing to try something different to spice it up. In Monster Hunter, there's little room for variety in tactics for certain bosses... try something different and FAIL: and you'd have wasted 30minutes-1hour of hunting PLUS 1-4 hours worth of material gained from foraging/hunting/farming...''
Sorry, but this is straight BS. Name one of those other "none-MH games you replay over and over again" that can actually challenge MH in terms of variety. No hunt is like the same. Just switching to another weapon changes the experience complety. MH is about finding your own challenge.
@19/berzerker99: If it doesn't affect the gameplay why would you need custom cars at all? It actually HAS to affect the gameplay/handling. Noone complained about custom settings in F-Zero or Wave Race. Those different tire sizes featured here serve the same purpose.
Tempted to buy it today, but I keep my gaming time free for Skyward and ToA. Mario jump'n runs just have lost too much appeal to me. They aren't bad, just not my kind of thing any more.
This game def. has its bland moments. There isn't really an art style, just hiding a bad engine that is still incapable of reducing muddy textures, jagged edges and low detail objects. And if there's any art direction, it seems to be of bad taste (mobgoblins, Ghirarhim) and unimaginative (environments lacking flavour).
Granted, it's still Zelda, it can't totally fail and I won't put it down till I finished. But if the last zelda iterations bored you to a certain extend, then this game will not feel very different to you.
Played about 4hrs or so, didn't grab me so far, this might be just another "good" Zelda game...
And I don't see how the "art style" compensates for jaggies and muddy textures. Mario Galaxy and MH3 showed the Wii can provide polished visuals, this game does not. Maybe they should have used the Wii's GCN-mode just in order to have some kind of Anti Aliasing... WW looks ten times better.
1. F-Zero GX 2. Viewtiful Joe 3. Resident Evil 4 4. Metroid Prime 5. Tales of Symphonia 6. Pikmin 7. Wave Race: Blue Storm
Take that, Zelda and Mario. I know, I have pretty high standards, but those are the only games I regret selling if this is any indication (well, luckily three of them had their comebacks on Wii).
Both pandora's and story's second option are piontless: those covers will be much to empty on the frontside. Those both could have been really nice alternative covers if they mainted the title logo etc, though.
Since Euro value is in decline, we won't receive such niche games anymore. Euro countries were the cash cow of all those japanese videogame publishers equaling $ with €. That's history now.
The 3DS might have more in common with the N64 in general: medium, somehow disapointing sales but great games with a more mature feel to them compared to GCN and Wii.
About the remakes: N64's just easier to remake regarding visual enhancements. You cannot improve a GC or Wii game, e.g. WindWaker, if it runs on a 3DS with 3D effects on.
"So the next time you hear somebody say “Man, I didn't care for Luigi's Mansion when it came out but it's sure gotten better with age!” you can politely tell them that they're an idiot."
What an offensive statement against people that (now) like the game - sense? Never experienced you avoided a game for years, didn't quite understand it, but got into it years later? Really?!
And more important: What are people still disliking the game for it's short lenght, none existent difficulty and nevertheless boring, repetitive gameplay ?
For some reason I believe this game will be released western next year:
Nintendo wants to release the Add-On in the West, so they need a game that makes actually use of it
Nintendo needs every great game they can get to bolster the 3DS' line up
There will be some kind of agreement Nintendo supporting Capcom financially and marketing this game, so less risky for Capcom to publish this game outside of Japan.
As many of you already stated, this 2nd stick should have already been included in the first 3DS' version. In a rare occassion, IGN precisley pointed out the problem with this new standard (if Nitnendo wants it to be a standard). How will Nintendo market this new add-on? What will be the effects on the 3DS' re-design successor regarding layout and release date? How will the mass market and early adopters react to this new 3DS after they happily bought an apparently "flawed" first version?
That was uncalled for. There was no need to add a second stick just for MH. Sure, it is the best layout to control a MH game, but camera controls using the touch screen would have been sufficent. Now with this abomination the (original) 3DS' future and appeal to the masses will be more uncertain.
Most of those games aged awefully. Only the mario puzzle game and SMB are worth playing these days. Hopefully the GBA selection will be pure win for us all. Besides, the ambasador integration is amuzingly none-professional. I mean, C'mon, just contact all those ambassador 3DS' automatically. Downloading a video just for telling me I need to activate the messanger?! Going to the download history to get your free games? Really Nintendo? Is this the best you can do with the 3DS' connectivity?
Finally a reasonable opportunity to get a RemotePlus. It only took... 2 years (?).
This cover won't make it to Europe thanks to stupid, big USK button. Maybe it will only be slightly altered, but it won't look exactly like that at least.
This game started great but now I don't think I will play on.
I never had to restart so many battles playing a rpg. Wasn't even able to kill that big worm in the cave although had the appropriate lvl. Battles and battle system are over crowded; item/equipment management could have been more comfortable. I see the point about the complaints regarding the visuals. Sure, draw distance is great, but the overall look suffers (muddy, rough edges, low poly here and there) and animations are outright cheap. When looking at this game, I felt there were something wrong with my eyes, but that's def not the case: I have no problems appreciating the visuals of SMG or MH3.
British accent is way too heavy, that's not appropriate for an pan european release. I will give it a try or two, but I see me selling it sometime soon.
Good thing I already sold my SSFIV3DE-copy. But I think Capcom shouldn't force it: they won't be able to replicate the "success". Better give us another big franchise, let's say Montser Hunter...
If DLC is only utilized to really extend the game experience with stuff they couldn't all have in the original release, I won't complain, as long as the pricing is reasonable. But I hope they keep up the free DLC the 3DS is already offering.
I don't care for NES games. Most of them look and play horroble aged. Additionally, what about the people already owning a bunch of NES games via Wii's Virtual Console? I already own all the NES games I consider worth owning and playing from the Wii NES VC library.
They should have made 10 free downloads for all the 3DS Virtual Console content + 10 free GBA games.
Outch! There are actually guys out there that manage to use max 3D in this game? If I do, I get cross eyes and cant keep focus on the fore- or background. Dissapointing.
IF we get a MH 3D (I still doubt it), I think this won't be a full grown MH experience. The costs will be too high. However, considering Capcom's approach to RE:The Mercs 3D, we might see something like a full grown Monster Hunter Tri's Arena mode singled out.

Re: It's Official: Xenoblade Chronicles is Coming to North America
Don't buy this game. This game is way too short to pack its own greatness and variety. You will be left hungry and spoiled forever after finishing it.

A year ago it wouldn't have looked THAT outdated at least. On second thought, we already had MH3, Mario Galaxy 2, oh and TP/Wind Waker back then...
Back to Xenoblade (with proper voice acting, appropriate visuals, immersive world, story and 100% button controls).
