Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Talk About Games By Comparing Them To Other Games?

Stroopwafel

This is how metaphors work. If you've played a game like Breath of the Wild, you'll probably have a lot of experiences and associations with it. If the word BOTW is linked with a new word in a compassion relation, all the associations will transfer to the new word. This probably won't be as strong as when you'd use a more overarching term as 'open world game'. Because, I assume for many, the associations are less specific with 'open world games' then with 'BoTW'. So the experiences and associations don't transfer as easily with relating 'open world games' to a new word as opposed to 'BOTW'. In short I agree we have to deal with 'x-like game' because that's how language works most properly.

I'm sorry to use words as vague as experiences. I could put it into more technical terms, but nobody would understand me without giving a 6 hour lecture on acquiring language from behavioral point of view.

Re: Don't Worry, You'll Still Have Access To "Certain Things" From Animal Crossing's DLC When Your NSO Sub Expires

What I want is to own the AC:NH DLC at some point and play N64 games on switch. But then it feels I have to pay 25 + 40 = 65 euro. And I seem to pay double for the AC:NH DLC. That's not worth it to me.

I'm not that big of an AC player and like to drop in and out now and then. But those times can be a half a year apart. It would keep me from enjoying popping in if I have to pay again to acces a part of the game.

@sanderev This makes it so convoluted that I got tired of thinking what I want and I just gave up on the expansion pack and the DLC. I've tried to explain it to my girlfriend how the pricing works, it wasn't that easy to understand for which price you get what.

What I would want is to own the AC:NH DLC and play N64 games, but that costs a lot and feels like I'm paying double.

Still want the NSO basic plan because of online play for Splatoon and Mario Kart

Re: Nintendo's Stock Price Sees Biggest Fall In Two Years Following Earnings Report

It's the believe of perpetual growth, that isn't rooted in reality, that investors are interested in. When a company still makes profit, but not as much as last year they are believed that the invisible hand of the market will rain doom on them. We, mere humble consumers, may not believe in this vengeful invisible hand-God of the market. Of which bloomberg is its prophet and the investors its disciples.

Re: Poll: Has Your Family Bought A Second Switch To Play Animal Crossing: New Horizons 'Properly'?

So what I see Nintendo doing with most of their titles is thinking about a primary idea what they want to produce. Anything that goes against this primary idea they don't add in their game.
In interviews with one the creators it was said that their idea for the game was his loneliness from being away from his family and friends.
From this perspective, and I don't say it's the right perspective, it seems logical that you sharing an island is being promoted and everybody having his or her own island is not.
I do like Nintendo for sticking to an idea.
