Re: Take A Look Inside The Tiny Apartment Of The Man Who Owes Nintendo $14 Million

SpeedySpeedy

@Screen They just show the real life circumstances of "this criminal", a term that you seem to use to dehumanize this guy cause that makes it easier to hate him and to see the world in all good or all bad, black and white terms. Bowser, like all of us, is at the end of the day responsible for his own decisions. However, good journalism should always question the powerful and the exploitation of the have over the have nots. The court and Nintendo should equally be held accountable for the fact that they are so unempathic and so detached from reality that they don't understand why a very poor and traumatized guy can't pay Nintendo every month a "small" amount until he lands in a mass grave

Re: Review: Castlevania Advance Collection - Utterly Essential Thanks To Aria Of Sorrow

SpeedySpeedy

I don't get the rationale behind re-releasing Game Boy Advance Games without screen filter options. That's a really strange and annoying ommision. Even the most obvious downside of screen filters, that they tone down the brightness, would be a good thing in this case. Man, I just prefer playing retro games with scanlines, thanks M2 for only implementing this simple feature for the least important game..😭

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Business Remains Strong, But Is The Bloom Off Switch Lite?

SpeedySpeedy

Yes, the Switch Lite can't switch - but that also means that it is a less wobbly and more elegant and focused device where the logic behind the product design still allows the utilisation of a proper d-pad...if (or to which extend) that outweighs the shortcomings is another question. Here in Switzerland the Switch Lite costs a bit above 200 CHF at most retailers which is psychologically kinda off putting...

Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Normalise Giving Up On Games Early

SpeedySpeedy

Yeah, I guess on one hand, it is kinda easy to develop OCD like symptoms over one's "pile of shame" and just the idea and the guilty conscience that you should play the stuff you bought and finish it can be anxiety inducing.. On the other hand, I think that the "Hero's Journey" that most narratives in contemporary entertainment rely upon, is inherently a part of the meta story of every video game: it is not like TV, it is not as relaxing or free of any obvious effort and in that sense, actually finishing a game can be a very satisfying expierence, much more than the short Dopamine burst is when you buy the next disposable game with your disposable income

Re: "Free Melee" Becomes "Save Smash" Following Nintendo's Legal Action Against Competitive Smash Bros. Event

SpeedySpeedy

@Cosats Hacking and modding isn't illegal per se. In general, I can do with my stuff what I want. And that is not unethical but that is what property rights are about in the first place. With regards to the current events, both parties try to play the victim . Nintendo doesn't want to make people think that it is a good idea to use a hacked ISO of one of their old NGC games for online play via PC. Even if it is. Cause it is a good idea. That is why they call everybody a "pirate". Pretending as if it would be ok to get Nintendo on board while using hacks and tricks in the background is also really shady. That is why they are "heartbroken".

Re: Review: Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 - Another Faithful Tribute To The Classic 2D Castlevanias

SpeedySpeedy

Nintendolife team, you really are responsible for what has quickly become my go-to ressource for all things Nintendo.

Still, it does undermine your realibility if you try to speak with one voice with your conclusion and review score, but fail repeatetly on that front. So, here you tout MM10 as "another retro-styled follow-up that fails to make much of an impression since the gimmick has lost its lustre" and even provide a direct link to the very review of Mega Man 10 that doesn't elaborate on said opinion but flat out contradicts it.

Re: Review: Immortals Fenyx Rising - An Off-Brand Breath Of The Wild That's Still Worth A Look

SpeedySpeedy

I find this copycap accusations a bit unfair - BOTW itself borrowed heavily from then-established Open World Games with mechanics that have been established in Ubisoft franchises like Assasin's Creed. But this is just how art works - copying, remixing and creating something new on the grounds of the already known. Using the art of the remix myself: "If the reviewer only had the courage to give the game a corresponding 7 star rating"

Re: Review: Wallachia: Reign Of Dracula - Contra Meets Castlevania In This Excellent Action Title

SpeedySpeedy

@Mach_Rider Hell yeah, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was my favourite plattformer when I was young, I would pay a frivolous amount for a Switch port. And for a port of Claw as well. Wallachia and Claw are both distinct, maybe it is the piratesque setting, the way both characters run, the superb music as well as the difficulty. I was a bit underwhelmed with Wallachia at first as well, but the gameplay is honestly very good...but despite the fact that it offers professional voice acting and a very good soundtrack, it does feels a bit rough, i.e. unpolished around the edges.

Re: Review: Yes, Your Grace - A Curious Mix Of Kingdom Management And Medieval Adventure

SpeedySpeedy

@NoMoreRobots That's interesting. SNK Anniversary Collection has also the tendency to crash but moving it to the internal file system eliviated the problem somewhat. Games run faster on the internal memory as well. I have a strange issue with PayPal, so I was not able to purchase your game today, but I will buy it as soon as possible and I'm looking forward to it very much! (Altough it seems to be another game that proofs that any Non-Native speaker who is able to understand English well enough is better off changing the system language to English as well. I watched a short sequence of an Let'Play of the German version. Yet another horrible word by word translation of a video game, but even bigger developers like WayForward have a bad track record in this regard.)

Re: Does Nintendo Have A Handheld Future Beyond The Switch? Yes, Say The Experts

SpeedySpeedy

@TheFrenchiestFry Sure, but Nintendo was also always willing to iterate on a winning formula. The gap between the OG Game Boy and the Advance was so huge that they kinda had to shovel the GBC in between, and both the Original Game Boy as well as the Game Boy Color had their "Pro"-Version as well. And what has started as Nintendo DS has ended as New Nintendo 2DSXL. On the home console side they just beefed up the specs in the first place from NES - GCN before they started their "Blue Ocean" strategy and went all in with the Wii after the lacklustre sales of the GameCube.

Re: PSA: It's Diddy's Kong Quest, Not Diddy Kong's Quest

SpeedySpeedy

@imgrowinglegs Sure, but you may want to consider that the "International Version" of games usually (not always but most of the time) just keep their English naming everywhere, even if the game itself offers or is the localised version for a Non-Native market. And as a Swiss, I may had a rough idea what a "quest" was as a child but recognizing puns that involve apostrophes was far above my skill level

Re: Sorry Nintendo, But The 3DS Really Is Dead Now

SpeedySpeedy

I'm on a tight budget at the moment, but I will buy the Switch Lite in to comming months. I was glad that some new games like Wario Ware or Luigi's Mansion have still been published for the plattform without being envy to Switch owners while seeing a lot envyness from different gaming sites about the fact that they couldn't get it all. Even now, as there are no new games coming for the 3DS, Nintendolife as a dedicated fan site wants the 3DS to see dead so desperatly, it's unreal - while I'm not sure if the upcoming release of Shakedown Hawaii for the 3DS will bother Nintendolife enough to publish a dedicated review for the title as it's already available on the Switch, I guess that if there will be one, the words "fitting farewell" , "swansong" , "dying system", "salute" and the like will be part of the text as it was in every 3DS release since the last two years. The Wario Ware Gold reviewer was honest enough to see that the concept was kinda fitting for the 3DS but he still had to mention several times that the title should have been published for the Switch in the first place because he doesn't want to use his 3DS anymore and that's all that counts - my excietmend to get a new game of this francise for my 3DS while having no acess to 99% of all new releases isn't important. Common Nintendolife, where's the freakin' problem? And what means "dead" anyway? If he's dead, so what's the issue? Not dead enough for you? Do you want them to shut down the e-shop imidiatly and force every retailer to throw remaing stock out of the window? Or may I still use my system and even buy a game - be it online or in a store - or is this a frivolous act? You can declare the 3DS as dead as much as you want and publish as much farewell "greatest hits" list as you want, ultimatly, Nintendo will decide when they will stop producing and selling the system. Just because you decided that this moment already has happened, it's your fault being annoyed that Nintendo won't follow suit to your reports or perception of reality, it's your duty to report the facts instead of insisting what the facts should be. Why don't you just rename your site to switchlife.com - you wouldn't even need to find new jokes for system stability updates as an added bonus. Rant over, just let may say: The 3DS is dead - long live the 3DS!
