@GrailUK Right now cos of the unpredictable environment Covid leaves us in then yh, but in the medium term, acquisition of other studios and increasing their development capacity is exactly what they need to do. Its help diversify their catalogue as well as the amount of titles released. How anyone can be against that i dont know lol
@Clyde_Radcliffe Yeah its crazy. This isnt a cult. We are just fans of a brand. If said brand doesnt provide the products/service we expect, then as long as said expectations are realistic/reasonable then we as consumers have every right to be vocal about our disappointment. Its mad how some fans feel the need to defend against anh and all criticism like Nintendos a religion.
A Pikmin 3 port this im hoping is just an attempt to reacquaint audiences with the series ahead of a Pikmin 4 launch next year. Otherwise thats deeply disappointing given how near to completion Miyamoto said the sequel was.
Lets hope the rumours of a full Direct next month are true. Id love No More Heroes 3, the rumoured 3D Mario Allstars collection and Skyward Sword remaster this year. I think Bayonetta 3 and Breath of the Wild 2 will be their big 2021 titles with Metroid Prime 4 coming in 2022
@GrailUK To be fair its not all about you lol. Other gamers might have more time on their hands to get through the released titles or have different gaming tastes to you so what 1st party games have trickled out from Nintendo in 2020 might not be for them. With that in mind Fragreds comment was understandable and its one i can imagine many other Nintendo fans agree with. Being a fan doesnt mean we cant criticize or wish for better from the company we love.
@johnvboy Not yet unfortunately. Was hoping for updates in this streamed presentation. Itll never come to Switch. But the least Ubisoft could do is release the 1st game on Switch in HD
@Perryg92 Beyond Good and Evil HD would be amazing. It was already done for the 360 and PS3 so it wouldnt be expensive or resource intensive. We should do a petition
@LavaTwilight DLC would be very welcome but the games 3 years old in its deluxe format so its unlikely. Games cant provide new content forever. You just have to make the most of it and also try other reputable kart racers like crash and sonic whilst waiting for mk9 on new hardware. We'll prob have a new system unveiled in 2022 with a launch in 2023.
@LavaTwilight Because theres little value in releasing a 2nd Mario Kart on the Switch when its hardware wouldnt be able to elevate the series enough to warrant an additional entry. DLC is a better shout whilst MK9 should be held for new hardware.
@LavaTwilight It would not make sense to make MK9 on Switch. Id much rather just get dlc for MK8 and an MK9 on a new console/handheld whose superior cpu would allow for more complex course design and artificial intelligence and whose gpu would allow for far better image quality and effects.
@nessisonett Thats a really superficial assessment. If it was that easy then of course they would be hitting 1080p. But complexity of geometry and volume and application of special effects differs between titles. This is an effects heavy open world game so of course there are going to sacrifices to facilitate that. Resources on console are fixed.
Why would downgraded graphics be a minus point? Thats inherent to it being on Switch a less capable platform. Thats out of the developers hands. Just seems like an unfair point. But if youre saying the graphics are rough by Switch standards and capabilities then it would make sense
@rockodoodle All of which could be incorporated more successfully from a business sense to support new hardware.
You have a habit of picking and choosing the points you attempt to counter.
Franchise fatigue that would come with another entry on Switch, unnecessary cannibalisation of extremely good MK8D sales, missed opportunity to support the success of the Switchs successor in a similar way to MK8D has done with Switch and a missed opportunity to present Mario Kart in a level of fidelity and with more complex A.I and track design beyond what Switch is capable of.
You think too short term. I love Nintendo and want their output to continue long into the future so my views and desires take that into consideration and are conducive to that. Learn to look at the bigger picture.
You are not bringing any worthwhile counters. You'll get no further replies.
@rockodoodle An additional Mario Kart entry for the Switch would be a poor choice to combat the newer platforms as the hardware would not be up to the task of sufficiently distinguishing it from MK8D. It would just feed into the perception that Nintendo has no new ideas and just recycles the same stuff. Which objective gamers know isnt true. A more sensible proposal would be additional DLC to extend the replayability of the current entry. I would hate for a next gen Mario Kart to be delayed because of an additional Switch entry. Thats a horrible idea.
The current version is selling well. Very well. So it would not make business sense to invest in and release another entry on the same platform and cannibalise those sales. Would make far better sense to use a new entry to support the success of a new console. Kind of like the successful MK strategy Nintendos been using for nearly 30 years.
@rockodoodle The Switch does have its own Mario Kart. Its called Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which has features and modes the original did not have and runs at a level of fidelity the Wii U couldnt manage. Each Mario Kart brings fidelity and features the previous gen could not handle so each successive game justifies its existence. The Switch is not significantly more powerful than the Wii U, so to avoid a retread/rehash it makes far more sense to have a Mario Kart 9 in 2023, with better graphics, more complex course design and more complex A.I. all enabled by more capable hardware. It makes more business sense as well as another release on Switch in what would be a similar format could risk franchise fatigue which wouldnt be good for Nintendos success or good for us as fans. So before lamenting about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, appreciate it for what it is and consider the bigger picture. Not just your short term wants.
@sixrings Ive no reason to be defensive. I dont own shares in Nintendo. Youve posted in a public forum which leaves your comments open to replies and criticism. I saw your post. Didnt agree with your perspective and therefore replied. The magic of a commenting section
All it comes down to is you as a consumer have choice and autonomy in how you spend your money when it comes to entertainment products. If you dont like the ports, dont buy them.
If you do buy the ports, then its wasted energy moaning about their existence.
Its completely understandable from a business perspective why the ports were made and Nintendo are under no obligation to provide an upgrade programme. You have your Wii U, use it. Or dont buy the ports. Or buy the ports, enjoy them and get on with your life. Choice
@sixrings Bro you are not entitled to a cross gen upgrade programme. You have your Wii U. You therefore should feel under no obligation to buy the Switch ports. Play them on your Wii U and enjoy the Switch for its original content of which there is plenty.
What youre proposing sounds lovely, happy and smiley but as nice and family friendly as Nintendo are, they are still a business so your suggestion is not realistic.
@ShaiHulud Given that there are under 14 million Wii U owners, the porting situation is just something we have to grin and bear. There have been plenty of original Switch games and its had decent 3rd party support. If these ports can amass greater interest in certain IP and justify new releases in series such as Pikmin, Captain Toad and Donkey Kong etc then theyre worthwhile in the long run.
Plus to be honest given how close Wii U and Switch are in power i wouldnt want a Mario Kart 9 on Switch. It wouldnt be distinctive enough from 8. Far better to have 9 as a launch window title for Nintendos next console.
@ThanosReXXX It hasnt been conveyed very clearly in the article but the 8Gb down to 3Gb comment isnt referring to cart sizes, its referring to RAM usage. The PS4 has 8GB usuable graphics memory to display any given game whereas the Switch system only has 3.1 with the other 0.9GB reserved for the Switchs operating system. Thats what the developer is likely referring to.
Eternal Darkness Metroid Prime Beyond Good and Evil HD Red Dead Redemption 1 Soul Calibur 2 (Gamecube edition) Deadly creatures Zelda: Skyward Sword Power Stone collection Marvel vs Capcom/Darkstalkers collection
Wonderful 101 and Xenoblade Chronicles for me. I had W101 on my Wii U and loved it. But got stuck on a flying boss fight and never continued. So looking forward to getting stuck in.
Ive never played Xenoblade Chronicles so im really excited to have my 1st experience of it be in this remastered HD format. Great month to be a Switch owner
@Coach_A low res assets is your only counter? The art style is completely different and matches xenoblade chronicles 2 (suggesting use of this newer engine) the polygon count is substantially increased, the textures are different and higher resolution as is the lighting model. Its not just a hd remaster its clearly a remake. Go youtube a video of xenoblase chronicles 1 for the Wii. I think youve forgotten what that looked like
All Nintendo has to do is continue to court indie developers and allow them to shine on the Switch, expend the content and features of Nintendo Switch online adding much requested features like SNES, N64 and Gamecube catalogue access and better connectivity between users and it needs to continue releasing the magical software its known for throughout each year of the Switch's life and at regular intervals.
@jarvismp A Switch 2 in 2020 would be premature. A Switch Pro in 2020 however would make great business sense. I wouldn't expect a Switch 2 until at least 2022/23
@Andrewjp327 Youre sounding so ignorant and entitled, the worst sort of gamer. You have zero insight into game development and zero insight into Game Freak as an organisation, what resources they have at their disposal and what money and staff are tied up in other projects and due to stakeholder influence etc. You know nothing. So quit with the uninformed rants and whining. You have been provided with multiple games where you can use the pokemon youve caught and raised. Continue to use them in those games and accept that some of them arent making it across to the new game. Its gamers like you with your unfair uneducated demands that stifle developer creativity. Do better.
@Andrewjp327 You were able to fully utilize your Pokemon within the games you caught them in and you are still able to utilize said Pokemon in those games. Get over it.
You are not a games developer and have precious little insight into the game development process, what changes theyve made in making this new Pokemon title and the constraints placed on them by working to a deadline.
Id rather they wait for a new console before releasing a new Mario Kart. Deluxe is still a great game with a wealth of content. A new console with extra cpu and gpu grunt would enable them to make meaningful upgrades to the design in terms of level complexity, racer artificial intelligence and overall image quality as opposed to more of the same.
@ALinkttPresent They didn't give any insight into how they were going to respond to this situation. With that in mind me highlighting a potential course of action was entirely reasonable.
Whats the big issue? You guys are a gaming news site. Surely you'd just class a subscription to this Media Create data as operational costs and continue to provide the information like you always have?
@DEADCELL and why exactly is that a bad thing? Theyre a dev with a public image to defend. I know if i was a dev i wouldnt want my intellectual property associated with someone who makes offensive comments and i certainly wouldnt want that peron to benefit and profit off of my work. See things from the perspective of others and not just from a Pewdiepie fans perspective.
@Yasaal Nah Tegra X2 only has very modest improvements so would be a pointless upgrade. Nvidia's Xavier SOC has just been released so would make far more sense to use that in a Switch Pro in about 2 years time.

@rockodoodle As far as Nintendos concerned, you know the platform holder, the IP owner MK8Deluxe is Switchs MK entry. Live with it.
