It looks really good, shame it's another JRPG, i don't mind the genre but Im not that into, i played Dragon Quest 11 and Xenoblade Blade DE, that's enough JRPGs for me.
The logic people use to try and make Zelda an RPG can be used to make every single video game where you have a story and a character and you control that character, into an RPG game.
"You play the role of Link so its an RPG" - so by this logic, DOOM is an RPG, so is Metroid, Mario and every game where you play a character in a story.
Because taking the literal term Role Playing Game can be applied literally, to 90% of video games.
But Zelda is not an RPG by the industry definition of the term, because it uses literally NONE of the traditional RPG tropes that are needed to make it an RPG.
I wanted so badly to enjoy the first game enough to be hyped about this but the issue is, In my opinion at least, Into The Breach basically too this grid box strategy formula and perfected it to the point that any game after it just feels dated.
I kinda like the idea behind Starlink, the whole open world space craft shtick.
I think dedicated Star Fox game but a similar way to how Starlink did it, with Nintendo behind it, would be a lot better, i think that was a good route and I'd like to see where Nintendo would go with it.
Not surprised to see this, for better or for worse Mario will sell games, his face alone will shift 1m copies of any game.
You could have a game called "Mario Paint Dry", where you watch a screen with Mario's face on it and it starts off wet and you blow on your Switch to speed up the drying and the harder you blow the faster it dries.
Yes that game, Mario Paint Dry... that game will sell 1m copies purely because it has Mario on it.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi Yeah it's really obvious what needs to happen.
If everyone wants MK9, people need to stop buying MK8.
Just like GTA 6, if you want that then people need to stop buying GTA 5.
Why make a new game, which will obviously kill sales of the existing game and take a risk that may not pay off (if the new game flops), when the game you have is consistently in the top 10 best selling games week in week out.
If you actually think about it that way, it's no wonder why we haven't had MK8 or GTA 6.
I wonder how they make decisions at Nintendo, what thoughts process goes into it.
A Wild Boss Appears: "Let's make new tracks for Mario Kart"
A Random Worker Appears: "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? Thats the best selling game on the Switch? Thats the 8th best selling game of all time? That Mario Kart?"
Wild Boss: "No stupid, that doesn't make any sense, we're going to update the other Mario Kart, the one on your phone... that nobody plays"...
Random Worker: "oh yeah, of course. Why would we update the game that everyone is playing when we can update this perfectly good mobile game that literally nobody cares about". "Well at least these clowns are paying me".
I watched a gameplay trailer for this and yeah i don't need to try a demo to know this isn't for me, I'm not a fan of the theme and im very particular about JRPGs.
I really wanted this game, but no physical was a deal breaker for me. Never got it in the end. I figured they would bring a physical but i guess the digital didn't sell enough to warrant the extra money it would cost to make it physical.
So i stopped and i do not plan to buy it. Even if it becomes cheap, I've done this a couple of times but only with Bayonetta and Assassin's Creed, not planning to do it again.
@BenGrimm length isn't the only metric to factor in, especially as an adult who pays bills - price is an important metric too.
In this instance the price is already more than 50% of my max months budget and the game length will undoubtedly be questionable.
But on the off chance that the game is over 50 hours in available content - meaning it takes me 50+ hours to 100%, then i certainly would consider it - but Metroid hasn't had the best track record in that department, so im not holding my breath.
@BenGrimm no but think of it like this, i allocate around $50 to 100 dollars on games per month, depending on my budget, bills, ect.. now some months that can be as little as $0 though, so bare that in mind.
So lets say i spend $60 on one game, which is more than half of my max budget for games, and its a game i can finish in under 1 week (3-6 hours of gaming every night after work, depending on how busy i might get), I've just spent most my budget for games per month on ONE GAME that is done in under a week.
@BenGrimm or maybe you're trying to tell me that a game that takes 15 hours to 100% has as much effort put into it as a game that has more than 90 hours?
@BenGrimm yeah i can't assume that Metroid Dread will be less than 30 hours long just because every single 2D Metroid game has been under 20 hours.
But i have a better chance of being right based on the history than someone who tries to say Dread will have over 60 hours of content, when no 2D Metroid in the history of 2D Metroid has ever been more than 15 hours at most.
@tntswitchfan68 huh? You're post is a bit confusing but i understand what you mean, but you've made it sound like all those games where made by Capcom.
Capcom didn't make SMT 5 (Atlus), or No More Heroes 3 (Grasshopper) or Mario & Rabbids (Ubisoft).
But yeah i agree Capcom are doing good atm, shame it took them 4 years, all their games before MH Rise were over priced ports. Like $30 for a port of Res Evil 4 that didn't even have Gyro...
Unless this game has a solid 100 hours of content and only 3 people working on it, it has less effort put into it than Hollow Knight.
Because Hollow Knight has over 100 hours of content, had 3 people working on it only and came out for $20.
What gives the right for a 60 billion dollar company to make a shorter game, with less content, more people working on it, the right to charge 3 times as much?
Because you're really just paying for a brand and logo. You're paying 3 times as much for a LESSER product because of brand and logo and you're trying to justify it.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi i mean honestly, do you even realise how ridiculous it is to suggest that its okay for Nintendo to charge more for a product that has less effort put into it because they will sell less than Hollow Knight?
That's some twisted level of fanatic logic there 😳.
So you'd be saying that it's not okay for Team Cherry to charge $60 for Hollow Knight because they would sell more than Metroid Dread?
@Ghost_of_Hasashi so you're telling me that it's okay for a 60 billion dollar company to to put less effort in making a product and charge $60 for that same product that a smaller company would put more effort into, charge $20 because the bigger company will sell less so the customer has to foot the bill? (The company in question here is Team Cherry)
First off, if you put less effort into something then expect less sales, do you think Hollow Knight outsold BOTW even though it was multiplatform? Not on your life - botw was exclusive too, Mario Odyssey too.
Know what these first party games have in common with Nintendo? They cost the same.
Nintendo charging $60 for a game a smaller company would charge $20 for after putting a lot less effort in, is a straight up scam.
@METROIDDREAD I'm not sure where you got 65 hours from, no 2D Metroid has ever been longer than 15 hours, thats if you do every single thing. Like 100%.
If you tried to 100% Hollow Knight it's easily over 90 hours.
If past Metroid games are anything to go by, don't expect more than 20 hours, but even if they go all out here and put in 30 hours, that would still be a lot shorter than your suggested 65 hours worth of content.
@METROIDDREAD i wouldn't say that the game length is my only top priority, but it plays a huge part in my decision making process for actually buying the game.
Its a price and time factor, if i spend $60 i want a minimum of 50 hours of gameplay, thats a bare minimum too, for Metroid i want the game to make up for how short the previous entries have been.
Although to be fair if i heard that Metroid has 50-60 hours worth of good content and the reviews are decent, id seriously consider it.
For me though a sure purchase would have to be 100 or so hours - this means lots of upgrades, lots of missions, good side quests and many many hard and annoying boss battles.
If Metroid Dread turns out like that, then I'd buy it. I already know it has good gameplay, Nintendo are known for their gameplay, but i don't care about that. It's the other areas where they are lacking.
@METROIDDREAD yeah i mean, it was also around the time that i tried the demo for Dragon Quest 11, which was 10 hours of content, on a free demo, that was nearly as long as a full Metroid game costing $40.
@METROIDDREAD No the game was fine, for what little there was, it was barely a 15 hour game, I've played meatier demo's. I just felt it didn't warrant such a price tag.
It was decent and the combat was fine but way too short for such a premium cost.
Like i said, Dread will need to have at least 100 hours of content for me to consider it.
@METROIDDREAD Yeah i definitely think that Hollow Knight reinvented the genre and set a new bar for Metroidvania games.
As for Metroid Dread, the issue i have is, i played Metroid: Samus Returns and i felt that i didn't really get my money's worth. And that was $40, the only way i would be willing to spend $60 on Metroid Dread, would have to be if it had over 100 hours worth of content.
Like Hollow Knight does, or Dead Cells or Hades. But i somehow doubt it does, so i will definitely be giving this one a pass.
Then i maybe willing to consider it but I'm not solely relying on Nintendo to provide me with a good gaming experience so i can happily wait for BOTW 2. Although yeah the length in time and it being mostly reused assets is slightly frustrating.
@METROIDDREAD yeah but still, i shouldn't have said that, its hypocritical of me to tell someone not to assume something, then go ahead and make assumptions myself. Thanks for pointing it out 😁.
Edit: Buuut just like you, i still think Silk Song will not disappoint 🤣🤣🤣
@TheAwesomeBowser they may put something on the Switch but it won't be what the fans want and they'll do it to maintain a cordial relationship with Nintendo.
Any game they put on the Switch is for marketing purposes and to keep up appearances, to have their name printed on this article for example.
Any publicity, even if its bad publicity, is better than no publicity.
But they won't put on any games that we actually want.
A bit off topic but it kinda relates to my above post.
Now Rockstar on the other hand seem to not like Nintendo as a company, i don't actually know why but the lack of support on the console is telling of a bad relationship with the companies.
Also Nintendo fans have love for Rockstar so we know that the lack of support has nothing to do with the demand, many many many people have been demanding GTA 5.
@glaemay EA doesn't particularly hate Nintendo the company, EA seems to have an issue with Nintendo Fans.
Because we don't purchase their games in great numbers and it kinda all started with the Wii.
Thats actually why an EA engineer once famously said "the Wii is just two GameCube's taped together". It wasn't a problem with the console for them, it was the fact that everyone was buying it and they had no idea how to utilise it.
The best selling EA game on the Wii sold 1.8m units, this was during a time when EA actually tried too. The Wii strained their relationship, more so with the fans than the company.
Carried on into the Wii U lifetime with loads of broken promises and even onto the Switch's lifetimes with all half arsed attempts at a FIFA game.
Like take this comments section for example, this comments section is indicative of all Nintendo fan site sentiments towards EA.
And EA definitely knows what the majority of us think of them, we've made no secret about it, on Twitter, Reddit, YouTube ect ect...
The beef is between EA company and Nintendo Fans. Thats why they put their games on the consoles but give the fans NOTHING at all.
The know FIFA will still sell on the Switch even if they don't try, so they put it on the console and shake hands with Nintendo Corp, Doing it, but then shaft the fans when its done.
@Friendly @Friendly You can wait to see how it turns out but realistically, I want an AAA gaming experience on par with games like Breath Of The Wild or Smash Brothers or Mario Odyssey and I certainly won't be getting that type of experience from a 2D Metroid game that will more than likely be less than 20 hours long. Like all other 2D Metroid games.
But you can go ahead and spend your money on it, all the more power to you, I won't.
@Friendly my point is, a company as big as Nintendo shouldn't really be charging $60 for a game that a company like Team Cherry would charging 1/3rd that price.
You're paying for the brand and the logo of Nintendo, not for extra quality.
Look at it another way, if Team Cherry had charged $60 for Hollow Knight, considering it was their first proper game, do you think they'd have gotten nearly as much recognition as they did get? We both know they wouldn't.
Why give a big $60 billion dollars company like Nintendo a free pass just because...
Or maybe you don't see the problem in today's neo capitalism way of thinking. I dunno.

Great, so I'll be grabbing this then.

I'll pick this up cheap on ebay one day, dont mind my books second hand.

Or i should actually call that a tragedy.

Re: Feature: Monster Hunter Rise Director Talks RE Engine On Switch
@DJB Yeah i use to believe there will be a Switch Pro too.
It won't be a thing. Doug Bowser basically said as much recently. Probably time to move on.
Re: Feature: Monster Hunter Rise Director Talks RE Engine On Switch
Great game, still playing it, although i feel the boredom creeping in, been nearly 200 hours though so it's understandable.
Overall its a top 3 game for me on the Switch.

Oh well.
Re: Nihon Falcom Announce Four More 'Trails' Games Coming To Switch In The West
Lol I'll be very surprised if this actually happens on this version of the Switch.
That stuff will likely get pushed back for Switch 2, for early content. If it comes at all.
Edit: imagine taking 2 years to port 4 8-10 year old games. Better off trying a different career.
Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course
@Crockin yeah i imagine that's because of Mario and the brand power behind it.
Remove him and you realise its like you said, 7 is generous.
Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course
@NRT1000 because i wanted to see what the reviews would look like.
Because to me, i figured that this game would be a 5 out of 10 if not for Mario and co.
It seems that assertion is probably correct.
Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course
@Ooyah 😆, a bit of war never hurt nobody.
Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course
@Ooyah nobody is having a war.
The Metroid Dread article was a war.
This is more like a play fight.
Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course
Actually i never realised this but if you remove Mario and Co from this game, make it a bunch of random people.
This game would be a 5 out of 10 and there wouldn't be an article written here about it.
Funny that.
Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course
I wasn't interested in this anyway.
Re: Review: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 - A Rock Solid Switch Port For A Pair Of Pros

Should have used a bigger cartridge.

@BenGrimm no worries, nobody's stopping you. We all have a different criteria that we need products to meet before we commit.

That's not exactly good value for money is it?
Re: Dark Fantasy Metroidvania Ender Lilies Launches On Switch Today

But like @Ralizah just said, that sounds terrible.

The know FIFA will still sell on the Switch even if they don't try, so they put it on the console and shake hands with Nintendo Corp, Doing it, but then shaft the fans when its done.
Re: Zelda: BOTW Sequel Was The "Most Talked About" E3 2021 Game On Twitter
Yeah i'm not surprised, I'm really looking forward to this game too.
I wish they could have shown us a bit of the gameplay, but i'm still very hyped all the same.
Also Elden Ring looks interesting too.
Re: Dark Fantasy Metroidvania Ender Lilies Launches On Switch Today
@Friendly @Friendly You can wait to see how it turns out but realistically, I want an AAA gaming experience on par with games like Breath Of The Wild or Smash Brothers or Mario Odyssey and I certainly won't be getting that type of experience from a 2D Metroid game that will more than likely be less than 20 hours long. Like all other 2D Metroid games.
But you can go ahead and spend your money on it, all the more power to you, I won't.
Re: Dark Fantasy Metroidvania Ender Lilies Launches On Switch Today
I dunno.
