I love the box! In terms of Pre-Order Bonuses, EU is getting more than the US. Not to mention how much better the EU Club Nintendo is compared to the NA Club Nintendo. And EU got the BLACK Wii to boot. sigh
Looks impressive. I will wait for the full review though since I need to get an new card for this one. I have 1700 points left and that's allocated to MegaMan 10 (and Bass DLC) which I'll be downloading this weekend.
I'm glad to hear about EASY mode. I need to refresh my skills.
I need to hear your opinions here. I feel that I've lost a lot of 8-bit gaming skill with age. I can't beat any of the robot bosses in MM9. This is from someone who beat all the Rockman (FAMICOM) titles without breaking a sweat. Not to mention Contra without the KONAMI code. I feel old!
IMHO updates are what made PC games better in some aspects. I like how patches fix errors and balance issues that beta testers and programmers did not catch in the game release. I think Nintendo should soften it's stance on "updates (patches)." Patches can even extend the life of a game! I remember crying foul when my Pokemon Sapphire had the berry bug; I only went back after it was actually fixed.
I think it's a departure from how we know Samus. For purists it seems wrong. In a way this is similar to Wolverine. His mysterious past was something we all acknowledge and when Marvel created an origin story for him, purists freaked. The Origin of Samus is a storyline that has to be explored. Prequels are a common theme when there is a lack of material to move the character forward. Books, movies, comics do it, why not games?
@waltz-elf constructive criticism is always welcome and the concerns that you raised are valid
I appreciate Nintendolife and all the people who take time to review the games. Personally, if there isn't any praise voiced by the reviewer I take it that there's really nothing that stands out as far as the game is concerned.
3 levels is short. But I'd rather have 3 levels of a great game rather than 8 levels of a mediocre one. We need more 8-bit retro games from CAPCOM and everyone else.
I want one but I'll wait for a Special Edition. I waited for the Zelda DS Lite (unique color and nothing else) and the Mario DSi (unique color and excellent value with all the extra games). I wonder what the DSi XL Special Edition would be?
200 points! Now this is what DSi Ware games should look like! It's great that Nintendo is paving the way for low cost, hi value games on the DSi Ware. Other developers should take notice.
We need more SHMUPs like these! And at 200 points?!?!? Definitely worth buying compared to Mario Clock and Mario Calculator! We need better budget games for the DSiWare!
Summer of 2010?!?!??! I don't think I'll be making enough this summer to buy all the cool summer releases. Monster Hunter Tri, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Sin & Punishment 2, and now Dragon Quest IX! IMHO this is good though after the relatively slow 2009.
I checked this out on Amazon. They're giving $10 credit and they're pricing the software only copy at $44.99 PLUS a $10 credit. I would like to have the Nintendo Points Card but IMHO the $10 credit is better.
2010 seems to be a great year. EXPENSIVE but GREAT! Now if only Amazon would give the $10 discount on pre-orders like it did for New Super Mario Bros Wii . . .
I'm a charter member of the "Price-Drop Club". The only games that I purchase full price are the ones with must-have pre-order bonuses (OST and Artbooks) and can't miss games that have a $10 pre-order discount in Amazon (such as the New Super Mario Bros and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom).
The Wii was meant to be a console for everyone. And everyone has different tastes. What may be shovelware to you and me might be gold to another gamer. I'm a big fan of SHMUPs, and I spent good money on getting Ikaruga. I have a friend who's a casual gamer who thought I lost my mind when I spent my money on a "stupid spaceship game". And what does he spend his money on . . . mini games!
I agree with jellodog. We, as gamers, have to do our part to help others enjoy their Wii by mathching them with a game that they'd like. I normally hang out in the local video game store and I talk to other people who buy games. I share my thoughts and recommendations and they end up buying the titles that I recommend. And more often than not, they thank me when I bump into them, sharing how much fun they had playing with the game that I recommended.
IMHO, Nintendo should be strict with Quality Control, focusing on the control and playability of the game. If they give the seal of approval, it means that the game is playable.
Shovelware wouldn't be much of a problem if Nintendo would have an actual DEMO system in place. Imagine if you could try really try out a game before you buy it. They did this on the WiiWare. Why not regular Wii titles?
Thanks Sean. This is what I really like about NintendoLife. REAL reviews from REAL gamers. And so far, Sean's reviews have been spot on for me. I've purchased majority of the games that he recommended and I feel like each and everyone of them was well worth my money. Kudos to Sean!
I'll still get an XL if the price is attractive and the screen is as good as they say. As for the DS2, it was inevitable. And yes, a VIRTUAL CONSOLE is a MUST!
I'm getting this on Day 1. Last MegaMan I finished was MegaMan 3 back in the NES. I got the MegaMan Anniversary Collection on the GCN but the controls didn't feel right. Getting the B and A mixed up was just plain wrong! I love the simplicity of the WiiMote. Close as can be to the NES controller.
It's good that the number of Pokémon are increasing. Pokémon are akin to flora and fauna in our world and there are a million species out there, some of which we haven't discovered. Though the designs are starting to look a little bit too similar for my taste. I like the idea of the all-in-one compilation. But I wonder how they will fit that all in a DS cart? From a gameplay perspective, I they would make crossbreeding a possibility and not just to transfer movesets but come up with an entirely different Pokémon altogether. Of course these new breeds have to be sterile (incapable of having offspring) to keep the no of possibilities in check.
Great review! I finished the first one back in the NES. It took me and my friends the whole day to beat it. I'll be getting this and scheduling a get together with my old buddies. Now if we only got games this good on the DSiWare . . .
Consumers should have a choice. Unless the cost to emulate both Aracade and NES versions are prohibitive, all versions should be made available to the public.
2011 is a long time. Anything can happen. I'll just wait for the reviews before I purchase this game. Wasn't all that excited to begin with. If going multi-platform means that they keep on making really great games availble to everyone, by all means. It never bothered me before.

I heard CastleVania in Metal!
Re: Review: Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes (DS)
Good game. I'm just saving up to buy this. I already pre-ordered Infinite Space. I wonder if they'd sell this on discount though.

Re: Review: Phantasy Star Ø (DS)
I played the GCN version of Phantasy Star and I was honestly bored. Seeing a 7 is giving me doubts about buying this game.

Re: Strider
NES strider was BAD. Check out ScrewAttack's Top 10 and they have the SEGA version of Strider ranked as number 1.
Re: Brush Up On Your Street Fighter History With New Book
I want to see if the art and photos are good before I decide to buy the book. $13.46 on Amazon pre-order.
Re: Prince of Persia to Include SNES Remake of Original
It's great when retro games get released with new titles! I wish they did the same with Boy and His Blob.
Re: Last Ninja 3 Pulled From European Virtual Console
@Betagam7
Excellent work!
Re: Review: Flipper (DSiWare)
Looks interesting enough but I still have to buy Dark Void and Chronos Twins before I get this.

Hmmm . . . Pass.

Re: Pokémon Lose the Slots From Their Heart and Soul
If there's actually a strategic element then I think this would be better. I was terrible at slots and I ended up losing more than winning.
Re: Sonic Playable in Super Mario Galaxy 2?
I don't think Nintendo would let it happen.

Re: Review: Let's Tap (Wii)
$7.99 at GameStop?!?! I better check it out. I like rhythm games and JPop. Seems interesting enough.
Re: First Impressions: Pinball Attack!
Interesting title . . . but I'm not sure it's worth 500 points. I really want a DSi demo to help me decide.
Re: Nintendo Download: 1st February 2010 (North America)
Hmmm . . . sorry but nothing interesting from where I stand. I hope we get more VC titles.
Re: Pokémon Lose the Slots From Their Heart and Soul
Or better yet maybe BOTH mini games could be in the US version!
Re: MotionPlus Nabs A New Exclusive: Zelda Wii
As it is, Zelda is a must have. This will show 3P developers how to fully utilize the MotionPlus and hopefully more games will have the functionality.
Re: Speak Up, Monster Hunters
I hope the online is free or at least resonably affordable. That's what I'm most concerned with.
