@Rhydas @MadAdam81 If Game Freak is so protective of their IP that Pokemon amiibo don't give you costumes in Yoshi's Woolly World (unlike almost every other amiibo), what makes you think they would allow Skylanders versions?
@OMC79 I realize I'm taking your words literally. I wouldn't have an issue with it, but you have this attitude like "shame on you backers for being hypocrites!" You're accusing people like me of doing something that we're not.
As I see it, there's no way to know what's going on behind the scenes. And to me it doesn't make much of a difference. I'm still getting a game that I want, even if some things about the campaign seem a little questionable.
@OMC79 Perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were saying that the same people who called Konami lazy are now sympathizing with IGA and seeing him as a victim. Is this not what you meant?
Also, a couple of quotes from you: "I never said the whole Internet ever said that about Konami" "everybody would be hoping for it to be canceled and everybody would be attacking Konami for releasing once more yet another Metroidvania"
These statements contradict each other.
Personally, I don't feel that IGA portrayed himself as a victim. We knew long before the Kickstarter that he didn't get fired, he chose to leave his job - there's a big difference there. He tried to start up a small game studio, but it didn't work out. In the announcement of Bloodstained, he was up front about the fact that he had a private investor willing to fund the game, right from the beginning.
I don't know whether I believe that the Kickstarter is necessary to make the game happen. The investor could have wanted to see a fan response before they committed to funding the game, or they could just be putting a spin on the story to help market the project. In the end, it doesn't really make much of difference. In fact, it's more a good thing than anything else because it is more of an assurance that the game will actually get completed.
@OMC79 By that, I mean the people who called Konami lazy are not necessarily the people who are excited for Bloodstained. You are lumping everyone who ever posted anything on the Internet into a single group.
I am aware of the private investor, and it doesn't really affect me. Why would it? Are you assuming that I fall into the group you made up that calls IGA a victim? I backed the Kickstarter because I wanted the extra goods like the soundtrack and artbook. I know they don't need my help to make the game happen.
@BinaryFragger Agreed. I develop games in my spare time as a hobby, and this sort of stuff makes me not want to become a professional. The programming is stressful enough without people hurling demands at you.
@OMC79 You need to take into consideration the fact that lots of people never called Konami lazy, and just wanted them to keep doing what they were doing. That's likely where a lot of the backers are coming from. Don't think of "the Internet" as a single entity.
Furthermore, if Bloodstained was being made at Konami, I don't see why anyone would call it lazy. Unlike the other games that got that accusation, this one isn't reusing any assets.
@Squidzilla "While a port is always a possibility in the future, we doubt that treasure will amount to much more than a nice easter egg."
It seems obvious to me that a Wii U version will be a future stretch goal. By "castle", they mean the graphic which displays the list of stretch goals. By "basement", they mean the bottom of the graphic - the higher tier stretch goals are on the lower levels of the castle. And by "treasure", they surely mean another stretch goal, and what could it be that would be related to the comment about Nintendo consoles, other that a port to the Wii U? Why would it be an easter egg?
I would hate to see people lose interest in the project solely because they think the developers aren't interested in Nintendo. I think the article is a bit misleading.
Of course, I suppose I could be the one that's wrong.
For some reason, I am reminded of a story that might restore some people's faith in humanity.
One time, I was on vacation in Wyoming with my family (we're from Ohio), and my brother forgot his 3DS case in our hotel room (it contained his 3DS and 4-5 games). Because we'd brought so many things to keep us busy on the trip, he didn't notice until a day or two later.
We started calling the hotels that we'd stayed at lately, and at one of them, they informed us that the staff cleaning our room had found it and set it aside. By this time, we were back near home, so they ended up shipping it to us with everything intact. The staff of that hotel really made our day!
I guess I'll just never understand the desire for a female Link. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. -If Link's gender "doesn't matter" to the point where he can be female, then how does it add anything if he is female? -In today's world, where everyone is all about being PC and respecting people's gender identities and all that, how does it make sense to say, "Well, your maleness doesn't matter, we'd rather have you be a girl this time."? -I feel that Link being male is part of the lore. Is it so weird to think that in the Zelda universe, souls always reincarnate as the same gender? -Furthermore, not only is Link always male, he's always Hylian (at least I'm pretty sure he is). As a black man, I guess I ought to want to play as a character that better represents me. Where are all the people campaigning to have him reincarnated as a Shiekah or a Gerudo? That totally wouldn't change the story at all. -How is "female cosplayers look more like this fictional character that doesn't look like any real person does" an actual argument? Or, worse, "I drew Link with breasts one time and it looked really good"? -Finally, I don't understand the reasoning that female Link is a good idea because he already looks feminine. What, because he's not all big and manly, it doesn't matter that he's male? Is he not a REAL man?
@Legendary_Loser It's not "as a grain of salt", but "with a grain of salt". While I don't know the origin of the phrase, I think the general idea is that this salt makes the unlikely idea easier to swallow. Therefore, the more preposterous something is, the more salt we need. In this case, we need a bucket.
Nice to see that Rock Band still has the stigma of being "fake plastic instruments for people who can't play a REAL one."
Speaking as someone who has played guitar for over a decade, I absolutely love the Rock Band games, and I play it with my family of real-instrument-players all the time. Rock Band is a video game, and we all know that. The experience of playing RB with a guitar controller is nowhere near comparable to playing an actual guitar. My brother is a much better guitar player than me, but I am better than him at RB because they require different skills.
It makes about as much sense as saying "why play Madden 2015 when you could go play REAL FOOTBALL with your friends?" or "why play Street Fighter when you can punch REAL PEOPLE in their REAL FACES?"
Furthermore, what's "fake" about singing in Rock Band? You have to use your actual voice, you know.
I don't feel discouraged, quite the opposite actually. Your discussion has helped to shape my opinion about the Treefall presentation. As I watched it, it felt wrong, and it made me cringe. But reading the comments here has really helped me pin down what felt "wrong" about it. And what things I shouldn't do myself.
I'm more of a programmer than a designer (I work as a web developer), but I do game development by myself. Being in this kind of environment, I notice little things that do/don't work, whether it be from our designer or just other sites out on the web. And I find that this skill translates well into game development.
As someone who is trying to be an amateur game developer, I can't help but feel embarrassed for the Treefall guys when I watch this video. I see all these mistakes they are making, both in game development and in the presentation of their ideas, and I think they are either willfully ignoring them or are somehow blind to them. I don't know which is worse. I find it hard to criticize them though, because I see them as people who are just starting out and trying to figure out how to do things.
That's not to say that I think the negative attention toward them is unwarranted, just that I find it difficult to be so harsh myself. I think seeing this reminds me in some ways of myself, when I was much less wise, and I wanted to unleash my creative output on the world, because I tried so hard with it that I was sure everyone would love it.
Also, kind of unrelated, but from the same crappy-game-dev's perspective, I'm finding this conversation between @MoonKnight7 and @Quorthon fascinating. It has given me some things to think about in terms of game design.

I, for one, am just happy there's more Resonance of Fate content, even if only a little. I wasn't expecting that.
Re: Review: Car Battler Joe (Wii U eShop / GBA)
The only thing holding me back is knowing that the Wii U version won't have the multiplayer. That was so much fun back in the day.
I also love the music in this game, didn't find it forgettable at all.

Re: Video: Volga Unleashes Flames of Justice in Hyrule Warriors Trailer
@Whopper744 None of the bosses (Cia, Wizzro, Volga) are part of the paid DLC. All three of them are part of a free update.
The paid DLC for October includes 0 characters, but does feature new missions in story mode that prominently feature Cia.
Re: Video: Volga Unleashes Flames of Justice in Hyrule Warriors Trailer
I can't wait for this. Volga is definitely my favorite of the original characters in Hyrule Warriors.
Also, that's not a goatee - the yellow spike is part of his helmet.
