Publisher Natsume has eight GBA titles ready for launch on the Wii U Virtual Console, according to director of operations Graham Markay.
Markay dropped the news during the latest Fragments of Silicon podcast, adding that the company had been planning its Virtual Console attack for quite some time. The release schedule commences at the start of June.
We already know that Medabots AX, Medabots: An RPG Adventure and Pocky & Rocky with Becky are inbound, which leaves a few other titles unaccounted for. Could we be seeing Car Battler Joe, or Gundam SEED: Battle Assault? Perhaps we'll get the JRPG CIMA: The Enemy?

Awww yeah!!!
Medabots... ROOOOBATTLE!!
not really that much to choose from, which I am actually surprised about, they have a lot of licensed stuff, so that's a no go. but really not much I am interested in by them, but glad more GBA games are coming. now bring them to 3DS Nintendo!
Handle held titles should be on the 3ds or both, feel like I always get the shafts on VC because I don't have a wiI u. Well I'm off to go injoy my pity party.....mumble and groan
I have recently picked up "Medabots Infinity" for the GameCube. I completely missed the anime when it first aired, but it's a quite enjoyable "Custom Robot" like experience. I wonder if the GBA games are like that too.
I would like the original Pocky and Rocky instead the GBA one.
@shinokami Same here.
Medabots? Darn, its becoming hard not to get gba games on Wii U. I love the RPG ones, nice cross between pokemon and a waiting to attack system. Decent story. I've never completed one as you need both versions to grab it all and a lot of runs but you can get a full game experience either way and takes away nothing from the games to not have the full set of parts. Both I found played differently as each rathered a different combat style. Other two are fighting games, less interesting to me but still might be curious enough to grab them.
I'm more interested in them adding Harvest Moon 64.
I remember watching Medabots way back in the day. I remember being disappointed when Mr. Referee didn't come back in the 2nd season. That guy was hardcore when it came to his job. Might check out the GBA titles.
I'm also interested in Harvest Moon titles. Which reminds me, I still need to beat the SNES Harvest Moon.
@TrueWiiMaster
Same. I figure the Wii U has the horsepower to handle it.
More Friends of Mineral Town is all I need. Hope that's included in the bunch...
Yes, excuse me....but I believe Mineral Town has all the friends it needs right now, and does not require anymore, thank you.
If Natsume doesn't hold the Lufia GBA license, then who does? I'd love to see that come to VC.
I only own one GBA game on Wii U right now thanks to the CN elite rewards, so Medabots: An RPG Adventure will be the first GBA game I buy on the Wii U. It's a really good RPG. Tons of content, fun battle system, and plenty of post game content!
@Retro_on_theGo
What? No Advance Wars?
It's a great tactics game with a long campaign and tons of post game content. Well worth it!
Also, I can't recommend Fire Emblem and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow enough!
Just give us plain old Pocky & Rocky on SNES!
Medabots I might have a look at if it's made available to download (currently have no GBA games on the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console, due to being uncertain as to how they would feel like in that format), but I already own Altron's so-called "sequel" Pocky & Rocky with Becky in physical format--that game's crap (in comparison to its highly polished and enjoyable Nintendo 16-bit predecessors and out), for imo it plays poorly, is structured poorly, it sounds poor (thanks a lot, tinny GBA sound samples), looks decent but doesn't mean it's pleasant to look at, Becky is a palette-swap of Pocky, after dying you start over from a nearby checkpoint instead of being revived at the exact spot you died like in previous ventures, there's no story progression between stages, it's tedious and mundane, the screen is not square, it lacks the charm and likability of previous installments, and the second much "harder" quest's much more poorly structured setup doesn't make the game any better. Altron had zero understanding of what made the two Pocky & Rocky games (made by Natsume) on the SNES fun and engaging, and the fact that it's the least expensive and more accessible of the three is truly sad.
And now Natsume (the publisher) is planning on releasing this over the games that they actually made and published in the '90s (licensed by Taito) on a downloadable service for current-gen gamers, which only adds more salt in the wound. Fan-freakin'-tastic!
What's next? Quintet license holders releasing ActRaiser on the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console and then follow by not rereleasing Nintendo 16-bit exclusive classics SoulBlazer, ActRaiser 2, Illusion of Gaia, Robotrek, and Terranigma so that gamers who cannot afford to have the luxury of owning an SFC or SNES console will never be able to experience them? AGAIN?!? Screw. That. Noise.
To each their own
The only thing I want from this is Car Battler Joe. Nice to see other people mentioning it.
Sad that I won't be able to do the multiplayer stuff, though...
I JUST WANT LUFIA 2, NATSUME ! GIVE ME LUFIA 2 !!
There is absolutely going to be a Harvest Moon game in the bunch.
@DiscoGentleman Actually the DS Lufia game was also published by Natsume.
I'll buy medabots to show there is a market for them over here still.
wasnt to big into Medabots but it was decent. Never played the game though.
@Action51 I was actually debating picking Advance Wars for my gold reward! I ended up with M&L. I'd rather have these games the way they were intended, on handhelds, and Advance Wars seems like the game that fits perfectly on handhelds which is what has kept me from purchasing it.
I love Fire Emblem too and it works on consoles or handhelds. The only thing keeping me from purchasing that is there's other games that have been taking priority, but I should fix that soon.
Medabots games?!?! OoO
I thing I have one of those maybe, recently bought a GBA medabots' game since I never manage to find one in italy. Neverthless I will download all the ones they will release on VC in the foolish hope to prove there is a market for localize the newer games on 3DS ^_^;
Could never get really into Metabots although I always did love Metabee's design.
I never tried CIMA or Metabots, I'm down. These are RPGs and the WiiU cannot get enough of them. Ofcourse the Lufia series from the SNES era crème de la crème of RPGs. I hope SquareEnix doesn't have the rights to that because we will never see it.
Awesome. Can we have the SNES Pocky and Rocky games too?
If we're counting non-GBA games, I would love it if Natsume would bring Spanky's Quest to the VC.
Strangely enough I actually haven't heard of any of these games before. May have to check em out!
I'll have to get my hands on the RPG Medabots games, loved that game to death!
I still have AX on my actual GBA, so i'll skip those.
Although I'll take the GBA one for damn sure, where the hell is my SNES Rocky & Pocky for WiiU? rattles natsume HELLO!?!?!?!?!?
@Action51
Well the more the merrier I say.
Seriously though, More Friends of Mineral Town is just the girl version of the original. Natsume apparently had a theme going, they added 'another' for the girl version of A Wonderful Life.
As for Lufia GBA, I believe either Atlus or Square-Enix owns the rights, probably the latter since they own Taito, the original owner/publisher of the series. Atlus only published it in the US.
Now this is what I'm talking about! They are finally releasing GBA games on the Wii U Virtual Console I haven't played to death! And I'm actually interested in these games.
Ah,Medabots.How I miss my morning and weekend cartoons
Never played any of these games mentioned(except Pocky and Rocky).I'll keep an eye out for all of them
I played Car Battler Joe to death on my GBA, but never EVER found a copy of Pocky & Rocky with Becky which I still want to play to this day.
Psst!! Hey Natsume!! Spankys quest, POCKY & Rocky 1&2 from snes please!! I'm asking a year now!!!
SNES POCKY AND ROCKY 1 & 2!!!!!
CMON!!
I might be interested in Car Battler Joe, since it is a spiritual successor to Vatlva. And I can't get enough Ancient anyway.
Uh...@AntDickens and @Damo why is this article in the Wii VC news section?!
That was a fast fix!
@TrueWiiMaster Probably not gonna happen, Natsume has tried but it seems to be related to technical difficulties:
http://www.destructoid.com/harvest-moon-64-not-coming-to-the-virtual-console-181459.phtml
@ghasfarost
That was on the Wii. I'm hoping the situation is different on the Wii U.
Mineral Town is the only thing I would really care about.
I would more than happily purchase Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town if Natsume were to release those on the Nintendo eShop
Yup, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. I would buy the heck out of that, same with Harvest Moon 64.
