Re: Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Figurine Spooked Off Club Nintendo

Ras

@biomadd I don't know if it was a common problem, but I got the chest and it won't even close. Very disappointing. I've closed the lid and wedged it against the wall in the hopes it'll "learn" to stay shut. Otherwise, I'll have to try to figure out the problem and hopefully fix it. I always end up with the broken thing.

This is why I never use my coins for game downloads. If I can buy it with cash, I'll save my coins. I usually have enough coins saved up to go platinum the day after the Club Nintendo year ends, so I had to quickly put those codes in. Then, I got a bunch of codes from my sister, who never uses them. It was finally enough. Good thing, because the eBay prices are already nuts.

Yes, this should definitely have been the Year of Luigi platinum reward.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U)

Ras

The mention of slowdown is worrying. I don't think I've played a Wii U game that hasn't had it, though if it was in NSMBWU, it was the least noticeable. It really marred Pikmin 3 for me. I'm starting to think this system is fundamentally flawed.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Fifteen

Ras

Animal Crossing New Leaf, but that's an every day thing. I can't wait until we're out of fireworks month, because that seems to keep Crazy Redd from bringing his paintings tent, and I need to buy a legit painting to give my first to the museum.

I'm going to do my best to finish up Pikmin 2 so I can get to Pikmin 3, which I've had since it was released but don't want to play until I've finished 2.

Re: There's a Real-Life Mario Kart for Sale

Ras

By the way, somebody bid on it, so the $8,000 option is gone. She has a vague idea there was an engine because of some buttons and wires, but I think these were the cars Reg posed in front of for shows before the game came out (the ones Gamestop gave away were made by the West Coast Customs guys and were fully operational), and I think they are just props. I doubt if the wheels even spin.

I'd like to have it, don't have the money, and those tires do look like they're in rough shape. I doubt if Luigi's sponge tires would be in great shape after a race, so maybe that's more realistic.

Re: Feature: A Brief History of Pikmin

Ras

I've got the first two for Wii, and plan to buy the new one. My play schedule is weird, and I don't play a lot during the day, so I've only played the first. I haven't gotten terribly far into it, as I find it quite challenging. I don't remember exactly what area I last played, but I think my ship was on a shore and there was something near the ship that was really well protected. I don't really remember, but I may try to start over before 3 is released in the US.

Re: Nintendo Comments On EarthBound's Inflated Pricing

Ras

@antonvaltaz "(That said, I did spend £6.99 for Earthbound, so I'm probably a bit of a hypocrite)" YOU JERK!

Kidding. I haven't bought it yet, but the price doesn't bother me. I would have figured they had to charge more because it's more a cult favorite than a crowd pleaser, but I'm glad to see from the charts that I'm wrong and it's selling well.

Re: Review: EarthBound (Wii U eShop)

Ras

@Dizzard Well, who knows? They've been putting a lot of stuff on both lately, like Super Mario Bros. 2 and I think the Mega Man games. I wouldn't count on it, but it could happen.

Re: Review: Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader (GameCube)

Ras

This was the reason I got a GameCube. Fantastic graphics, but I don't love the game. Too hard for me. I barely made it past the debris field mission and have never seen beyond the water planet level. It didn't look as good, but I preferred the original Rogue Squadron.

Re: Time: Nintendo Is "Stumped" By The Wii U GamePad And Should Ditch It

Ras

Well, I already have a negative opinion of Time, so I'll just leave that aside. The problem with third-party developers and the Gamepad is similar to the problem with the Wii: they think they HAVE to do something with the Gamepad every time, just like they thought they had to have waggle every time. It's okay to say, "The Gamepad isn't our focus, so we just put the basic inventory/map stuff there." They could even say, "We recommend using the Pro controller." That would be cool. I never understood in the Wii days why someone couldn't just say, "We don't happen to need waggle with this particular game, but enjoy the sensor bar pointing on the menus if you like."

Not to say developers aren't capable of finding something stunning to do with the Gamepad. It's just that NIntendo ought to tell them, "It's optional. If you just want it for off-TV play, cool."

Re: Nintendo Reveal Why Its 3D Mario Title Isn't Super Mario Galaxy 3

Ras

@MadAdam81 I love the Galaxy games, but I'm very excited with Nintendo's reveals today. I liked 3D Land a lot, and this looks like it continues that and takes it to new heights. Today's slate of games is pretty much why I had to have a Wii U, and that was before the Donkey Kong surprise.

Re: Limited Super Mario Accessory Box Reward On Club Nintendo Has Sold Out Already

Ras

Hey, I bought the Yoshi cloth and I use it! I find it surprisingly difficult to find a good microfiber cleaning cloth not included with some other product.

I couldn't afford this box. I have a few spare surveys and registrations that I'm saving for the July reset, but not enough for this. I don't think I'd get it anyway.

Unless Nintendo offers a downloadable game that is otherwise unavailable, I will never use my coins for that. I'd rather save coins for hopefully cool future items. I was glad to have a bank of coins for the gold nunchuk instead of having blown them on games I could pay cash for, for instance.

Re: Review: Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

Ras

Until I watched one of those awesome Let's Compare videos on YouTube today, I didn't know this was a sequel to Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Back in the early '90s, I either didn't know about it at all or just assumed it was the SNES version of the Genesis game I already had.

I hate to hear about slowdown, but I'm going to have to buy it. I can always track down the PSP version that has the slowdown removed later.

Re: Review: Kirby's Adventure (Wii U eShop / NES)

Ras

I just realized why I never played a Kirby game until recently. '93. I bought my Genesis pretty early, and I guess I abandoned the NES. I never even played SMB3 until Wii VC. I have this as a 3D Classic, but I'll get it for $.30. I have yet to catch the Kirby bug, though.

Re: Nintendo Working On Wii Remote Fast Charging Battery Pack

Ras

I have a Nyko induction charger, but the batteries struggle to hold a charge now. I wrote to them and asked if they sold replacements, but they said it was discontinued and that they would send me their latest dock charger kit if I sent my induction kit to them! That's some customer service there.
