Sad day for us, but great that you're getting on at Ninty. Five words, from your lips to some honcho's ear: "Mario Kart trophies to NOA." I kid. I'm not active enough in the forums for you to recognize me, but I'mma gonna miss ya.
Without thinking about it too much. I'd say Pitfall 2 was my favorite VCS game. It was kind of unusual in that it had a big, defined play space, unlike the first with random screens. I remember there being certain steps you had to take to advance, and it was tough going for me as a kid.
Atari kind of left a bad taste in my mouth with the Jaguar. Diehard Gamefan really hyped the system. After I bought one, they suddenly changed their tune and treated it like a joke. It kind of was.
This may be greedy, but for the Wii U, I would like to see them work on batches of VC games all at once and release them whenever they are ready. No more of this "dribble them out one a week, when we feel like it." Just, "Okay, we've got the emulations of ten games done. I'm going to put them up for sale." Exceptions would be for games like Wind Waker, which would be enhanced.
@Knuckles Yes, it was made by Shiggy. I love the game, and definitely play it far more than the original. Back then, having a reasonably accurate port on the Coleco (no Mario's Hideout) was amazing.
I was so excited by the look of Pikmin 3 that I started New Play Control Pikmin, which I've had sitting around for a long time. Fun game, but I'm finding it to be quite a challenge. I knew enough going in to not save if I wasted a day figuring things out, and because of that I'm ahead on parts vs. days, but I'm still finding it tough just to clear a path to a part via fighting, replenish my Pikmin, and then make it back to the ship in time.
Even so, I bought NPC Pikmin 2 on Sunday and will buy this when it comes out, launch or not. I won't fight crowds or risk losing out on the Wii U--that's what Amazon is for. I do hope they have black to start, though it's not critical.
Those who say they've never played a Paper Mario and are interested, get the first on Virtual Console ASAP. The first two are probably my two favorite games of all. I want to be excited for the new one, but I don't know why we can't get a straight answer on partners.
I'm actually a little worried about this now. I hope we have traditional partners. Kersti and the little crown dudes remind me more of Pixls. Don't screw this aspect up, IS.
@Assassin87 Yesterday's Iwata presentation featured an unidentified zombie game. It featured Royal Palace guards, so it has to be the same game. As analyzed here, I think (maybe Nintendo World Report), the graphics looked more Wii quality than "next gen."
You win this time, Nintendo, but you'll never stop me! Never! Bwahaha!
Er, that is, I am one who hits Platinum and then stockpiles registrations until July 1. I am losing out in some cases (Epic Yarn, for example), but it should balance out a little with the 3DS coins increasing. Those should make up the bulk of my registrations anyway.
I read a story the other day that Rockstar's financial reports listed a WiiU version of GTAV, though that probably won't make the launch window. It's cool that it'll probably make the system, though. I'd rebuy Red Dead Redemption if it had slight graphical tweaks (ie, being able to look at Armadillo through the telescope and see textures instead of flat shading) and an elimination of the unfortunate slowdown. Or, maybe they're working on the next iteration for all systems.
Day 1 for me. I've been excited for it since it was revealed, and this latest trailer really takes it up. I love SMB mode, but a course set at Mushroom Gorge just ices it. Cannot wait.
@repplyguy67 hey people,Off topicly, i have a quick question, what do you think Mario would drink first Pepsi, or coke?
Now this, I can answer. New Coke replaced Coca-Cola on April 23, 1985. Coca-Cola Classic replaced it on July 10, 1985. This was definitely before Super Mario Bros. was released, and according to Wikipedia: "By the end of the year, Coke Classic was substantially outselling both New Coke and Pepsi. Six months after the rollout, Coke's sales had increased at more than twice the rate of Pepsi's." So, I think Mario would have definitely grabbed for a Coke Classic after a long day of stomping goombas.
(Now, if we go back to when he was still Jumpman, he was more into Dr Pepper)
I don't know when the NES came out in the Dallas area, but I could swear SMB wasn't one of the original titles on the shelves. I remember Kung Fu and Hogan's Alley, but my memory is being excited later on when SMB showed up on the shelves after I'd already had the NES a little while. But, that's 27 years ago, so I could be wrong.
They probably won't release any VC games alongside Colors, so that should be three weeks of nothing for me. I have tons of games on my 3DS that haven't gotten much attention from me, so it shouldn't matter, but every Thursday was Christmas for a while and they're letting me down!
KI:U was only $29.99 on Amazon preorder, too. I bought it for $39.99 and woke up to an email saying, "We're putting $10 back on your credit card due to our preorder price guarantee."
Thus far, 3D Classics Kid Icarus is the best part of the deal. Three chapters in to Uprising, I'm not yet used to the controls.
I think I got it a day after day one in the US (I think it came out on a Sunday, and we don't get Sunday mail) and I've loved it ever since. Even through the lean times, there was cool stuff on the eShop. And, the Christmas 2011 games and beyond have been fantastic. I'm enjoying playing the original Kid Icarus right now (though, it would be cool if there was an option to play it exactly as it was on the NES), and may start Uprising tonight.
I've had a couple of games that featured the "guess the potion/magic wand" thing, that could do you more harm than good. In Ultima Underworld 2, you could either try your luck or pay a mage to identify the spell for you. I think AD&D: Treasure of Tarmin for the Intellivision had the same thing, but you just took your chances with potions. Also in The Immortal.
When I was a kid, Chuck E. Cheese (really, Showbiz Pizza, in my case) was pretty cool. I used to play Bagman, Moon Patrol, Blue Print . . . you know, real arcade video games. The last time I was there for a nephew's birthday, it was all coin scoop games and little dinky rides.
@WaveBoy are you in the US? The 3D Classics is being offered as a preorder bonus for KI: Uprising. If you miss out on that, it'll probably be available at some point on the eShop, but who knows when?
I really love this quote: "I think it's fun to play Mario Kart as if you were checking your horoscope. Even if your luck isn't good today, it might turn around tomorrow if you keep trying." Tagline worthy stuff. I try to take the annoying luck aspects of MK in stride. It is quite telling to me that, for the most part, the Bullet Bill players end up right back in the position they accelerated from (though, it can be useful to catch back up with if you are hit by a ton of shells and can't catch a break).
I completely endorse the idea of them giving a warning before doing this. I would have totally purchased Bloody Wolf. Heads up: there was an earlier story that R-Type III and Super R-Type are being removed from the European service. If they're still up in NA, I'm getting them tonight.
No. This is about a specific, presumably British chain of game retailers deciding not to carry the game. It should have nothing to do with the US getting the game.
They should add the Super Nintendo functions to Game Boy Donkey Kong. Which is probably what you mean, but I wasn't playing Game Boy games by the time I had my SNES and never had a Color, so I'm not sure.
Stylus? Haha, am I the only one who has almost never used the 3DS stylus? I've had it out twice for about ten seconds each time.
IGN gave this a pretty good review. The only other one I saw was the negative at Nintendo World Report, and Neal is an extra tough reviewer! He gave Sakura Samurai a bad review, and had the most negative (but still mostly positive) take on Mario Kart 7.
@Classicgamer It's been hinted that Link to the Past is getting remake treatment. I get the idea they are doing more than just "3D Classic"ing it up. But, so far, this is just Miyamoto's wish and not confirmed.
I think it was just Nintendo's first opportunity to use Swapnote for something like this, right? I guess I have Swapnote, but I haven't even looked at it, so I don't know. I don't expect anything major--I think the previous NinDirects have just told us stuff we already know, with maybe some more concrete release dates. The best thing I remember from the first one was a long video that confirmed a couple of the MK7 retro courses we didn't know about at the time.
I'm in it for any scrap of Paper Mario info they can spare us.
Don't want to be the voice of doom, but every hands on I've seen has been very negative. I'm hoping the final polish turned things around, but I'm definitely waiting for reviews now.

Gameplay graphics didn't look too good in Iwata's presentation. Hopefully that was an early build.

@Jamouse I know you ain't talking about my Reggie!
We need some Paper Mario 3DS news. It's been far too long. Either that, or the surprise announcement of Mario Golf 3DS.
Re: Master of Darkness Swooping to Virtual Console
@takosuke Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry the music quality isn't consistent, but I'll take a gamble on this if it comes to NA.
