Re: Review: NightSky (3DS eShop)

PixelatedPixie

I respect peoples opinons and I'm glad that some people clearly love this game, but I think giving it a 10 is hugely overrating just how good this game is. I eventually gave up waiting for this to be released on a Nintendo platform and purchased it on Steam. It was a game I had been following for years and had been eagerly anticipating. When I finally played it though, for my tastes it was too easy, and it failed to really take the mechanics anywhere interesting. I had a pleasent enough experience playing it (much of it due to the great acoustic soundtrack) but it failed to make any lasting impression.

Re: Review: La-Mulana (WiiWare)

PixelatedPixie

I've played about 7 hours of it so far. Really interesting and fun title. Definitely not a 10/10 in my books, but that's more a matter of taste than a reflection of the game. I'd recommend that everyone pick this up if you're up for the challenge.

Re: Review: Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition (Wii)

PixelatedPixie

I'm very glad to hear that this collection is a more successful effort than Mario's 25th Anniversary, but not being a fan of Kirby games I'm going to give this a pass. Had this treatment been given to Metroid during it's recent anniversary I would have been delighted. Damn you Nintendo! Damn you!

Re: 3DS Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Won't Be Venturing Online

PixelatedPixie

It most certainly will impact my decision about purchasing this game. A non-online portable Monster Hunter might work in Japan, but History has proven that Western gamers prefer to play games online. I had so much fun online with Monster Hunter Tri. Personally, I think it's a great shame that this version will not support what is at this point a basic feature for a multiplayer game.

Re: Nintendo's Hardware and Related Software Hits 70% Market Share in Japan

PixelatedPixie

Japan, relatively speaking, isn't the biggest market for video games so I wouldn't put too much emphasis on this news. Let no one be under any illusions, Nintendo faces huge difficulties both financially and in terms of mindshare (especially within western markets). This news has done little to allay my fears that Nintendo might be left behind as their competitors and the industry at large gear up to move forward with the next generation of consoles and smart phones.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Finishes Second in UK Charts

PixelatedPixie

It's also worth bearing in mind that Mario really has legs. What I mean to say is that the games have legs in terms of sales, not the character...although that's not to say that the character himself doesn't have legs, because he does. He uses them to jump...

OK, perhaps a better way of putting it is that Mario usually has a long tail. The games that is, not the character...

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

PixelatedPixie

So I can pay £30 for a boxed copy, which I can subsequently lend to friends and ultimately trade in if I wish to do so, or I could pay £40 for a digital copy which can take up to 45 mins to download and which is locked to a single system? Not only that, but should I lose said system I would have to produce a police report so that Nintendo can verify the loss or theft and then transfer the purchase to a new system, all because Nintendo refuses to implement a proper online profile?

You know what Nintendo? I think I'll stick with the physical copy. I'd love to embrace the digital future, but until Nintendo gets their s*** together I don't see any reason to download these retail games beyond mere convenience.

Re: Fluidity Is Your New Club Nintendo Reward

PixelatedPixie

That's an incredible deal. Hydroventure (Fluidity) is one of the best games on the system. In terms of quality and quantity, it's easily better than most retail releases for Wii. For me it's not only one of my favourite Wiiware games, it's one of my favourite Wii games.

Re: Gold Boo and More in New Super Mario Bros. 2 Trailer

PixelatedPixie

I'm willing to acknowledge that this will probably be more fun than It looks, but so far the trailers for this game just aren't doing it for me. Collecting coins for me is the least interesting thing about the series, so a whole game dedicated to that, combined with the fact that it's in the NSMB style, means that I'm not feeling all that excited. Still, I'm always ready to play more platformers.

Re: Secret Third-Party Wii U Games Under Wraps Until Autumn

PixelatedPixie

@mumof2kids82

True, but in order for them to build hype they're going to need momentum and interest, which in my opinion the Wii U is sorely lacking currently. This is of course just my opinion, but I feel now is not the time for Nintendo to be holding anything back. Coming out of E3 I got the sense that Nintendo fans (i.e. those most likely to buy the system on release day) were not encouraged and that casual gamers and the mainstream press are either confused by it or simply disinterested.

The silence from Nintendo not only on games but on system features and services is deafening. Pikmin 3 looks good and Miiverse looks like a thing, but I still get the sense that Nintendo have failed to convey what the Wii U is and why I would want one. The best way they can overcome that problem is by showing us the games, not hiding them.

Just to reiterate, this is the opinion of someone who knows nothing about launching a games console or, indeed, business generally.

Re: Secret Third-Party Wii U Games Under Wraps Until Autumn

PixelatedPixie

If this is a deliberate ploy by Nintendo I have to say it's a really dumb idea. When the market is wary of, and in some cases confused by, your product you should be shouting your wares from the rooftop, not hiding them in the dark. Nintendo should be releasing information every day about how awesome Wii U is, what new features it brings to table and, yes, telling you about all the great games that are on the way. This weird silence thing is kind of killing any anticipation I had for the system. The system's likely to be released in 6 months time and I'm still not exactly clear on why I would want a tablet controller.

Re: Warren Spector Proud That Epic Mickey 'Polarised People'

PixelatedPixie

After Epic Mickey he sure has a lot to prove. I never even finished the first game because it became too frustrating and after a few hours the world just felt a little lifeless to me. Maybe it's because the best thing to me about Disney are these animated and lively characters, while in Epic Mickey the characters that made up the world just kind of stand about dispensing challenges and asking you to collect things. It was kind of dissappointing that the they weren't voiced and that they didn't really feel interactive. I hope the sequel makes the world and characters more interesting to explore. The first game definitely got the aesthetic of disney down, but the characters just weren't where they needed to be for me.

Re: Nintendo Drops Price of 3DS AC Adaptor in Japan

PixelatedPixie

Not including an AC adaptor with the XL is one of the dumbest things I've ever come across. The only such adaptor I have is the one for my 3DS. I had been considering trading in my current 3DS and upgrading to the XL, but then I would have to buy an adaptor. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the absence of an adaptor alone made my decision not to upgrade, but it was certainly a factor.
