New power-ups and freshly minted enemies make their appearances in this New Super Mario Bros. 2 trailer, straight from Nintendo.
A gold Boo, gold Bullet and Banzai Bills and more all appear to dole out cash, helping you to your target of one million gold coins.
The Mini and Mega Mushrooms return, and now we can finally answer the most burning power-up related question: the Assist Block gives you a white raccoon suit, not a white Tanooki suit as previously claimed. We can all sleep easy now.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is just over a month away.

I thought the Mega and mini mushrooms were first introduced in Mario Party 4 as items?
I was always planning to buy this game day one but it was never really that exciting.
It looks better every time I see it though and I'm starting to actually look forward to it.
Very intrigued by that "Night time" run at the start, it looks like a section dedicated to not stopping running.
Looking better and better! Can't wait!
Looks awesome, but I probably won't get it until October because I am going to be flat broke after the end of this month.
Looks better each time I see it.
@CrispyGoomba
The mushrooms looked different in that game. One having a pacifier in it's mouth and the other in a large turquoise form.
I'm still not interested in this the slightest.
@Happy_Mask
I'm assuming it turns to a normal raccoon suit at the end of the level.
Much like the P-wing only lasts for the level it's used on.
Seeing or using the item probably also prevents you from having a perfect save file like previous titles. In Super Mario 3D Land, you could get 5 stars, but they wouldn't sparkle if you died too much.
I'm so excited for this game. I got my pre-order in and @ future shop if you prefer-order you get a steelbook for it. Can't wait until August
I'm willing to acknowledge that this will probably be more fun than It looks, but so far the trailers for this game just aren't doing it for me. Collecting coins for me is the least interesting thing about the series, so a whole game dedicated to that, combined with the fact that it's in the NSMB style, means that I'm not feeling all that excited. Still, I'm always ready to play more platformers.
The next question: Will you be punished for cheating like in Super Mario 3D Land?
Yes some clear SMB3 backgrounds going on.
It looks really nice! I love the new level themes. At the beginning with the night time shift, it looks very interesting. My opinion on this game has definitely made a complete turnaround.
Looks better and better with each view. I'm now very surprisingly enthusiastic about it.
Man this game looks really awesome but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get Super Mario 3D Land & not this when the 3DS XL launches but who knows...
This game is coin galore.
According to the trailer, looks like the white raccoon suit only shows up if you die enough times.
great! they still have the mega
mushroom and the mini mushroom
This was the first Mario game I was planning on skipping, but Nintendo's doing a good job of convincing me that I'm wrong.
I wonder if they even bothered to add a game over screen...
Did anyone else notice the Warp Cannon?
After seeing this trailer, I see tons of potential in this NSMB title.
OMG MEGA MUSHROOM
I missed my baby.
I hope there's bonus levels for Download Play, like those ones where you have to collect all those stars. I love playing with my family.
And I want the minigames back, they were so addicting!
@mumof2kids82 whats a steelbook? also I pre orderd it from gamestation and get a free coin shaped game case
whats the difference between a racoon or tanooki suit?
looks good - to many coins though
I hope the dlc comes in worlds, not levels.
I don't know about this.. The coin sound is gonna make me go crazy :/
But I am a sucker for 2D Mario games...
It looks like it might have more varied and interesting levels than it first seemed and its nice to see the mega mushroom return but I'm still not planning on getting it for a while. I'm not pleased about seeing the mini mushroom return. I hated that level in world 4 of NSMB where you needed a mini mushroom to clear it as it was pretty hard so I had to keep going back to mushroom houses and hope that I would get a mini mushroom.
I wonder what the white tanooki suit will be for if the assist block gives you the white raccoon suit?
Can't wait
I like the fact that the Mini and Mega Mushrooms are back! This is exciting!
Gold Boo is now my favourite thing ever!
To many power ups if you ask me. What ever happened to just the star and flower?
NEED IT NAOOOOOOOOO!!! Aug. 19th is too far away. Loved the rainbow background coin stage, and did you see that massive 100 coin, um, coin?
Soooooooooooooooo...many...POWERUPS!
Looks good, but the problem is that they just simply retouched the NSMBW tileset/graphics, so it looks like its been played before, just with new levels & gimmicks...
Anyway, will get it when it gets released.
This trailer really looks interesting and different. The Gold Boo actually looks like a sun, and I love the fact that enemies like Lakitu or Hammer Bro are helpful this time around. It would be great that suddenly those coins they throw turn into hammers after a time to punish you for your greed.
Something tells me that you won't have a shortage of lives in this game.
@Andrewroxsox As with every Mario game since Mario Sunshine.
@Yellowgerbil Well pricing could be evenly priced, like $9.99 for a world with 10 levels and $0.99 for a single level.
'Bout time they brought back the Mega Mushroom. I was really hoping that the power-up would've made it into NSMBW. By the way, did anyone else wonder if that blasted Poison Mushroom is making a return yet again?
This game needs to be renamed to: New Super Mario Bros. - Gold Hunters.
$1000 says the final boss is going to be a Golden Bowser. I hope there's a bad ending to the game where Peach falls for Bowser instead of Mario.
Looking better every time, the blue thing really got me exited.
1up!1up!1up!1up!
Do the maths
1000000 coins =10000 lives
It does look nice graphics wise
My head feels like it's going to esplode with joy!
AND BAM... goes the deena-mitay.
i bet with all the coins and 1-ups there's gonna be a hard-mode full of "no 1-ups given for 100 coins"...
although it probably wont be much harder
It doesn't really matter if you have infinite lives or one life, you still have to get past all the enemies and traps and survive long enough to get to the flagpole. I think that's something a lot of the naysayers who are shouting "TOO EASY! TOO MANY COINS! TOO MANY 1UPS!" are failing to look at. I've used the comparison before and I'll do it again: think about Rayman Origins. Not a single 1up in sight, infinite lives, and hard as hell toward the end.
Man have I got to stop watching trailers. The whole game's gonna be spoiled by time I'm done with these.
