Just pledged $40. I was too young to ever buy a new Mega Man at retail price (classic series anyway) so I figured that's the least I can do to show my appreciation.
it wouldn't surprise me if Capcom shut this down somehow just to stick it to the fans
It would surprise me, what with their having no legal right to do so and all.
@whatisyourforte That's a great idea! We should totally start reviewing all the downloadable games for the WiiU as well. No idea why we didn't think of that!
I'll ask the rest of the team and see what they think.
It is naive if you assume that was Plan A and there was no Plan B to release it as a non-Zelda game.
Yeah, I don't see what the naivete is here. They asked a question.
Yes, they got the answer lots of us could predict. Does that mean they were wrong or stupid to ask? Of course not. Especially if it resulted in Nintendo giving it their blessing and offering that he release it through their platform as is.
@element187 From what you're saying I think I have a pretty good idea of where you are in the game. So...don't read any spoilers! Some of your comments are making me think you'll reeeeally appreciate where the story goes.
Pikmin 1 will always — always — be one of my favorite games. As much as Pikmin 2 tried to build onto the formula, I thought the first game was just a perfect, enclosed little experience that its bigger sequel couldn't match.
Dying to finally play Pikmin 3. Even if it stinks — which I truly doubt — it'll be nice to revisit the series.
We definitely need a Fire Emblem character in this Smash Bros, and I'd be perfectly happy with it being Chrom.
It's nice to see how much love he actually has for the medium. He's not just a voice actor who happened to work his way into some video game roles...he obviously really cares about it, and that's fantastic both for him and for us.
@Linkstrikesback Sure, sales speak louder than words. But I think you misread...he's not saying everything's peachy. He's saying they need more Nintendo titles on the shelf. His point isn't that the WiiU is fine...it's that 3rd party support isn't necessarily the answer.
Also your response to this: "Nice to see someone look at the state of gaming and realize that there is not a lot being missed if you don't have a non-Nintendo console." ...tells me you mis-read that too. You replied as though he said you are missing a lot. He said the opposite.
@SpinelessOyster Publishing and developing are two separate things. Presumably the Kickstarter money went to developing / refining the game. From there it still needs somebody to publish it through the various platforms, and it looks like Ubisoft is filling that role.
@Hale-Bopp All I'm saying is don't lose hope. LCU had 15 "levels" as well, and was also open world. The terminology they're using can be a bit misleading, but so far it's sounding a lot like LCU to me, and I'm waiting to be proven wrong before I worry too much.
@Hale-Bopp "As soon as I saw the words "15 levels" I knew it wasn't going to be open world and I lost all interest."
I wouldn't count that out just yet...Lego City Undercover was open world, and it was also divided into a relatively small number of levels. They're not mutually exclusive, so don't lose hope!
Sven's a great guy. Obviously I wish him the best, along with anyone else affected by the re-org. I'm sure it'll be a loss for Capcom, but I really do hope they get themselves sorted out. It's a bumpy ride this generation already.
Seriously. Fire Emblem Chronicles, or something like that. Older games (not all of them made it Westward anyway...did they?), Awakening engine...I wouldn't be able to get my wallet out fast enough.
@Hunter-D He really did. I can't wait for this...the X Complete Works has been out of print for a while, and goes for an arm and a leg now. This is going to be great to have!
@BriBri @PinkSpider Not my review but I do want to jump in and thank you for these comments. Hearing stuff like this means a lot to us (all of us) and reminds us of why we do this. It's a lot of work (from the admins to the reviewers to the news team to the mods) but hearing these notes of appreciation makes it all worth while. So thank you.
And speaking of which, great review @DRL
Though I kind of wish the game sucked so I would have an excuse to save some money. Oh well...goodbye $5 bill!
If Activision pulls support; if you see Ubisoft, you see Take-Two pull support, the Wii U is a Nintendo-only gaming device which is they way they were back with the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985.
Yeah, the NES had terrible third party support! I challenge you to name even one third party game, let alone a great one we still play and talk about today!
Oh, you can name nearly 100 off the top of your head? Nevermind...
@The_Joker Oh sure, you can. And that's great. But it's still not how you create art, or a classic gaming experience. "It's a lot like Ocarina, but there are differences" isn't much of a recommendation, and doesn't say much for the creativity of the team behind it.
They need to let themselves grow, otherwise they're just smothering the series by worrying about complaints, and catering to whoever yells loudest on a forum.
Personally I wish the Zelda teams would stop worrying so much about what gamers will think, and just focus on providing a great game. (Which I don't feel we've seen from them since...well, the Wind Waker.) They tend to be extremely reactionary to public opinion (removing Tingle, shuffling Toon Link off to handhelds, cloning Ocarina for TP because that's the game folks liked most...) and it's really hindering their ability to make a great game.
I want to trust the developers to make a great game...not the most critical, vocal slice of the gaming community to tell them how to make a great game.
They're giving people what they think they want. That's not how art is made.
I want a real Chibi-Robo game. Even if it's just the original GC game released into the eShop...I never got the chance to play that one and it looked so cool.
@DarkCoolEdge It's hard to estimate game length when something's turn-based...you and I could go through it at vastly different speeds, depending upon how much consideration we'd like to give each move. That said, I found that each chapter could take about an hour. (Sometimes more, sometimes certainly less, but I think that's a decent estimate.) There are around 40 chapters if I remember correctly, plus a handful of prologue chapters.
40 hours is probably about right, and you can tack another 10 -15 on to that if you take your time or fail often!
@emblem Oh certainly. There's no question they'd make money. But as you correctly imply, keeping the brand alive long-term is the far preferable path. New Leaf would be generating more money for them (at least potentially) if it included micro-transactions. But the brand as a whole would suffer for it, and people won't be as likely to buy a sequel if they remember this as "the game so greedy it sucked away all my money," rather than "the game so charming it sucked away all my time."

This is the only Kickstarter I've ever backed.
I regret nothing.
Re: Jools Watsham Offers to Help Create a 3DS Version of Mighty No. 9

If there's anything Nintendo fans should know by now, it's that not all ports are created equal...
Re: Mega Man Creator Keiji Inafune Working On Spiritual Successor Mighty No. 9
@ScroogeMcLz
I know that. The comment I was responding to didn't.
Capcom wouldn't have a leg to stand on here. There's no danger at all.

Re: Review: Fish On 3D (3DS eShop)
@Dark-Luigi haha! That's very flattering. If I ever do play it, and hate it, and come up with a hilarious way to express that hate, I'll be in touch.

@Dark-Luigi
If you mean Fish On, I haven't played it. Sorry.

That game really was far better than I expected it to be. And so relaxing.

I thought that was a deer in the picture. Then I realized it was Thomas's face while playing the game.
Re: Review: Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (3DS eShop / NES)
This is not a complaint so much as growing used to today's game which are way to lenient.

Re: Classic Game Boy Mega Man Titles Coming To 3DS Virtual Console

It's the best of both worlds!
