I've gotten really into used games lately. It's probably the cheapest way to play some older games and you can sell them whenever you want. It applies for retro consoles, but also games just a couple years old can be found for half their msrp or less. Honestly it's such a good deal, I see why console makers like Xbox have wanted to get rid of it for over a decade.
People forget PC ports have those options because they can't predict what kind of build you'll have. I play a lot on PS5, and outside of a handful of games (mostly first party, crossgen titles), performance options are there to hide how poorly optimized a game is. Like Jedi Survivor. "It is 4K!" (At an unstable 30fps) "It is 120fps!" (At 1080p).
@NCChris That's very easy to understand. I mention FFVII Remake isn't a Remake not out of not creating enough new things, but rather, the game essentially took the ideas of FFVII and is telling essentially a different story. It's almost like comparing Zelda A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. Two very different games with similar story beats. Crash Bandicoot Insane Trilogy is a remake because it's attempt was always to remake the original game. It certainly isn't hard to make sense of for me.
@NCChris Companies use the wrong names all the time. Crash Insane Trilogy isn't a remaster, that's easily a remake.
Another example of a company missuing words is Square Enix, they called the FFVII Remake as such, but in reality it's a very loose reimagining of the first third of the game. There they actually course-corrected with the follow-up FFVII Rebirth, a more apt name for it.
How can this even be up for debate? If the words are so clear. Remake is when you are making something anew. Think the Resident Evil remakes. Remaster is when you take the original files and master them to make it feel more modern like 16x9 and less compressed audio and textures. Like the Red Dead Redemption remaster. There are some remasters that have to remake things because they're lost media like the Silent Hill or FFX remasters. And there are some remakes that keep something from the original game, like Xenoblade DE's original dialogues.
@Donniz The Wii was a massive success for Nintendo. You may find this hard to believe, but the Wii U was the most powerful console at the time of release. And the streaming tech for the Wii U Gamepad was actually very advanced at the time. Faster than the PS Portal.
@Serpenterror I certainly hope they don't go that route. The last time they actually cared about specs was one of their lowest moments financially. As you can conveniently see on this very article. Affordable hardware filled with innovative concepts is clearly the way to go for Nintendo.
Why is this website defending or at least giving a platform to some of the worst scams running on the gaming industry right now? WATA, Intellivision Amico, and a bunch of other consoles and organizations along the way. Delete my comment if you want, that'll only confirm your stance.
I've been enjoying his movies all my life. Let that man enjoy his life with what he's already given us, if he so choses. Oh and in case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night.
I don't agree with this take. Nintendo isn't doing the boring, useless achievement thing others are doing. They are doing it in a way that could actually give you things. Yes, there's avatars and wallpapers, but also actual physical goods. And so far, the only condition is that you own a Switch and NSO. Fairly reasonable.
The point this article makes is weird. I agree, a lack of game availability leads to piracy. The answer is to make them available, the next problem is how. But that guy was pirating brand new, readibly available games. That's completely different.
This is the company that lost the original files of the Silent Hill classics, decided to de-list P.T. just to stick it to it's creator, and a lot of their classics command huge prices on eBay because they've refused to put them on modern hardware. Konami has mande clear preservation is not of their interest.
@BloodNinja Uhm... extremist? I don't even support those game key sites, the origin of those keys tends to be... questionable. You do know people sell things other than games, right? Like books, in-game goods, music, etc. With no need of NFTs. Completely DRM-free in most cases too.
@Savage_Joe I can't, but neither can I tell you one for NFTs. Steam and others allow you to resell stuff you get in-game or even sell your own creations, the exact same thing NFTs want do but without the NFT part, and way before they were created. It'd be awesome to be able to resell your digital games at some point, but I don't see how NFTs being necessary for that transaction at all.
@HarvestGoddess I agree this is the fastest thing they could do. But I disagree they'll do anything to fix (what even is possible to fix) after they've done these small things. The reason is that, given the information that has been leaked of Activision/Blizzard's response to the reports of abuse is avoiding, union-busting, denying, protecting abusers, amongst other things. They really only fired people when the evidence and the response was too big and they were left with no other choice. And even then, they allowed them to just look like they "stepped down", "quit", etc. To help these abusers save face. They'll fight to actively protect abusers and leave victims hanging until the bitter end.
And thank you, that's very nice of you. I hope you have a good day aswel!
@nessisonett I disagree, this is not the start, these kind of useless changes should be done at the end. Blizzard is doing this instead of actually doing anything. They think doing this will distract people enough from all they've done, and they're probably right, unfortunately.
@Whitestrider Oh... you're one of "those" aye? To you it's just that Nintendo happens to be a big company, got it. The artists behind their IPs don't matter at all to you, as long as the publisher is big. What a way of having a civil discussion.
@Whitestrider What would you think of Nintendo doing a sequel for an indie game, say, Shovel Knight, and uploaded it for free to the Nintendo eShop? I think most people would be against that.
@Whitestrider It's quite simple, really. Sega's approach clearly doesn't make IPs as strong as Nintendo's. From the outside it might look like they're overprotecting their franchises, but looking at how many rivals Mario has had over the years, and how little of a blip Sonic really was as a rival to Mario, it tells me that Nintendo really do know what they're doing when it comes to preserving the value and control over their properties.
As much as you hate Nintendo's stance. Look at where the value is for their IPs compared to Sega's. Maybe there is something to Nintendo's overprotective ways.
@MetManMas It's kinda obvious that the conversation is around the fact that Microsoft owns Xbox, a competing platform, and yet it's on Nintendo's latest figurines. Not "a name other than Nintendo is on an amiibo", that's been a thing since day one.
The only reason some people don't consider Zelda an RPG is because it's not as gradual as traditional RPGs. You get more weapons, better weapons, more health, more stamina, essentially growing the character. It's missing the stats sheet on the menu and that throws off the simpler folk.
@1UP_MARIO What I did was, I waited to have like 5 or 6 things on my cart, and was charged a single shipping. 5 USD in my case. I do that with other similar rewards system, not exactly new.
@1UP_MARIO If you stop and think about it, 350 Platinum gets you some physical rewards, and it's a good percentage of most. They're essentially giving away things just for participating.

@NCChris It is as complicated as you want it to be. But if you go by the definitions, it's very clear what something is.

@Tchunga We're on the minority here, it seems. I still think they're overcomplicating a fairly obvious subject.
