Uh, ALICE from BLOODY ROAR... great memories... However, personally my best "rabbit in videogames" is ROBBIT from the playstation series "JUMPING FLASH!"
@BAN
I guess that is subjective. I'm happy with the Xbox-style pads, and I also find a logical reason for it: the left stick is up because it is the main stick to control the game. The right stick, as importance in the control, is secondary both to the left stick and to the ABXY buttons and therefore for me it is appropriate that it be misaligned, aligning the ABXY buttons.
Personally I found myself very bad with the "Wii U" method, but in the end it is subjective.
Wii U was my first Nintendo console. Yep, that's right, I've always been an "All Playstation and PC guy", but I didn't know what I was missing.
I loved my Wii U. Truly. Experiences like "Xenoblade X" and "Wind Waker HD" were wonderful.
The console in my opinion was, at the same time, both good and bad:
The operating system and the UI loaded with exasperating slowness, stuff worthy of the early 2000s. The Gamepad was too heavy and I found the placement of the sticks awkward, but the basic idea was valid, something "fresh". The Wii U games (although they were few) were just GORGEOUS, and the console deserved a better fate... despite the flaws.
P.s.
On Wii U's technical strenght: It wasn't overwhelming, but it was enough for me. The current success of the Switch shows that software houses could have easily developed their games on the Wii U too, if only they wanted to.
Several times Nintendolife has proved unable to professionally analyze a video game. In this case the editor is only partially wrong, but he went too hard. The Switch version deserves a 6/10, but it's nowhere near the ideal way to play Sonic Frontiers. The best way to describe this version should be: "If you have ONLY the Switch, it's "okay-ish" to play it. Otherwise, play it somewhere else."
I played it on PC (steam), and need to say that from the video isn't clear an important element: You can ( / you MUST) target enemies. In the pc version you need to point them with mouse. This makes the game feel "fresh": this isn't "another clone of R-Type", the gameplay is different. You can love or hate that feature; personally I'm more used o the ordinary horizontal projectiles of the good old classics, however the game's good. The Switch version, with the pointing moved to the right stick, could be more interesting. We'll see.
I really CAN'T understand why Nintendo gives all that credit to Forever Entertainment. That company is terrible. The remake looks very ugly, the game completely lost its "cartoonish" style. P.s. don't buy that trash. instead, if you have the VR Quest 2, I highly recommend "DROP DEAD". It's similar to House of the Dead, deserves to be played especially if you love HotD or rail shooters. Pure fun.
"loads of people, many of whom haven't played it, jump on you and start shouting that you just need to get good"
I'm playing it with great pleasure. More than 40 hours.
I say to you: YOU aren't capable to play it
"to deal with the obtuse puzzles"
OBTUSE? Do you want easy puzzles? WHY THE HELL??? I like reasoning on them, playing without haste, but reasoning. For me Baldo shrines (minigames of moving statues) and zone puzzles, are perfectly fine.
"and janky combat."
the combat system isn't refined. But consider two things:
1-the combat IS NOT the main thing in Baldo. When you explore the map, rarely you encounter some enemies. In the dungeons that changes, that's ok.
2-Baldo IS NOT Diablo, you shouldn't go against a lizard like a mad man, you must learn his weaknesses, his patterns,
you have to put yourself in an advantageous position.
Said that, YES, Naps could've done a better combat system (and a better UI interface related to combat) but "as is"it DO NOT break the game.
"But the problem is that these things just result in boredom and frustration"
1 - boredom? It's a PLEASURE to explore a so wonderful world.
2 - frustration? Read what I wrote before.
And the game ISN'T all that frustrating. If you die, the game puts you extremely close to the death. It encourages you to try again, to study a method.
About "Aracna", the prison boss, you can beat it in different ways. On youtube I seen people killed it with fire+web tactic.
I killed it using the common "small bags of dust" that you can find around or buy at the shops.
BALDO IS A GAME THAT DESERVES TIME, you must THINK, and TRY.
You aren't playing at "Bayonetta", LOL!
If you want a quick and easy game, then play a quick and easy game. But DON'T say that Baldo is trash because it's not true.
Hey NintendoLife, your review is SO wrong! The game is pretty rough but far to be a BAD game. The real problem are the bugs, but the developers worked, and still work, for that. However, the two hotfixes improved the game's playability (and removed the horror red "GAME OVER" advice, now there is a cool "skull" transition). I can't understand why so many reviews talk about "bad puzzles" (they AREN'T bad! They ask your reasoning! If you want easy puzzles, play something made for children) The combat system isn't perfect, but perfectly usable. Again, if you only want to "press B" all the time, you can't play Baldo, you should play Diablo. In Baldo you must study enemies pattern and weaknesses, and push on that. BALDO isn't a game for all the people. But this DOESN'T MEAN that Baldo is a game that deserves 4/10. My personal vote to the game is 7-8/10. When the game will be cleaned from some small problem, it will be a full 8 for me.
P.s. this isn't the first time NINTENDOLIFE reviews are completely wrong. For example the really good BATTLE AXE got a 5/10. "Too short". Holy fu**, it is an ARCADE GAME! So ALL the shooters (R-Type, Raiden, etc.) deserve a bad vote??? C'MON!
@Gwynbleidd they developed the BEST 1vs1 beatemup ever on Amiga systems, Shadow Fighter.
Developed Gekido Ps1, really good at the times.
Recently Developed the pretty good Iron Wings on many systems. NAPS aren't a shovelware softco.
I think your review is too punishing.
The map isn't great, that's true. I heard (and hope so) that the future patches will improve it.
The combat system is functional.
Yes, the game IS hard, but not THAT much, thanks to the respawn system.
The difficulty of the puzzles is a "pro" for me.
Bugs and glitches...that's a real problem, but NAPS love their game, and will work on it. Expect 2 weeks and all the critical bugs will vanish (imho).
For sure there is one thing: Baldo isn't for everyone. If you want all the commodities, if you want an easy life, play other games.
I have both a Switch (year 2017) and a new, powerful gaming PC with a fat Steam library from 2007. I love the Switch, but that Steam Deck seems to me as a great new possibility to play many (SO many!) indie games on the move. Games that I already possess (sort of... digital). the cross-players PC/Switch are heavily interested in that new machine. That's a niche, but a BIG one.
However, for the families or the Nintendo enthusiasts, the Steam Deck isn't interesting enough. The Switch exclusives games are too good, you can't live without them.
Nintendo eShop is broken as *****.
When released, I bought a retail copy of TOKI, and played it on my Switch;
then , some months ago, for commodity I bought the digital eshop version for € 1,00.
BUT if I try to play it, my Switch still asks for the cartridge. No matter if I got 2 different licenses (1 from physical, 1 from digital version), eShop will ever ask for the cartridge.
It's only € 1,00, but things as that one makes me want to NEVER buy a thing from the online shop in the future.

These games don't deserve oblivion. I hope the developers bring them to Switch. First of all, I think to Pushmo and Nano Assault Neo.

a COPY-PASTE work like that...
it's something I expect to find at 1 € in the eShop.
Games need art, need inspiration. You can't simply copy a thing.
