@westman98 well the pro only exists in the people's imaginations then, whatever the intention of Nintendo, this upgrade is hardly substantial, especially since they did not use it as a springboard to demonstrate needed hardware improvements, the joycons for instance, either way this might as well be the pro, as they will not release any such model, until this one has reached saturation point in the market.
@Dezzy70 I charted nintendo's release schedule over the past 12 years, their original title output is dismal in the last 6 years, its awful, EPD is doing nothing, retro won't have anything for like 9 years more than likely, all their smaller "fetch & carry" teams are doing nothing as well, how people talk up the switch as Nintendo's "Golden Age" is whack. I got rid of my switch for pocket change to buy a Gamecube game. Xbox is a real great value right now, even if I think Halo & gears are in the decline.
People are whack, if this is not seen as an outright disappointment, as it it probably the "switch pro". I don't care either way, but its a hohum iteration of a handheld, especially compared to the gameboy pocket & colour, the Advance SP, the lite, the 3ds Xl, the new 3ds, its pretty lame
I never actually thought that a Pro model would make an actual difference, as there are already nearly 100 million switches out there; developers, even with the extra graphical power, would be shackled to those specs. That aside, I was looking at the Joy Cons throughout the trailer, & they appear to be the same crappy joycons that I know & love, which if the case, is immensely insulting & lazy.
@Cia i was referring to a comment u made to someone else, about the two big flaws being Fi, & needless text pop-ups, the game's rigidity in progression or "linearity" is a major bummer though, the fact that no piece of content or concept in this game is a one-off is also a huge bummer (I guess the levias fight is a one & done, & some other stuff sure, but still)
@anoyonmus such low standards, fixing issues that a small child could point out, but leaving in vast swathes of redundant filler, as well as doing no texture work.....take my money!
@moodycat I believe u used the word broken, which means not functional, they are functional, if u couldnt get them to function......then that is its own thing,
@moodycat the fault was probably yours, I've used all kinds of motion controls, on all kinds of different wii's, wii remotes, & settings, it works, those button controls look super clumsy, especially on joy con sticks
There are just so many bad games in this list, or very mediocre, I played a lil bit of lost worlds the other day, & was surprised by how bad it felt, just the way sonic moved felt like he was floating on the ground, it was awful, also isn't sonic like super cringe as a character.
@Dethmunk, ok, so either Nintendo did a lazy port, or they wasted precious time & resources to resell a game, yet without providing ample reason to repurchase that game (probably get it on ebay for 15 bucks), both sound bad. Moreover, by Aonuma's own admission, WW HD took six months to port, & they did far more work on that than it looks like they did for this. Btw there is nothing wrong with the control scheme in SS, if anything the control scheme will be worse with the joy-cons, since there is no sensor bar to auto-adjust, & the stick controls look immensely clumsy, & will feel like garbage with the joycon sticks.
@METROIDDREAD This game gives "linearity" a bad name, the game is full of brain dead filler that seems to be out of a platformer, except this game is not a platformer, thus it doesn't work; not to mention that no idea is a one & done in this game. Yes timeshift stones are cool, but I don't want to see them in 4 separate extended sequences.
@Inaroomalone if its ur first game, the hand holding might be nice; the handholding is only beneficial for 5 years old (maybe), but five year olds can't read, so therefore it's not. I watched my 6 year old nephew get frustrated to bits by the useless & invasive text boxes
i don't know if anyone is aware, but the original games were designed for a small screen, so they could have simplistic models cus over-detailed models & maps make the game look cluttered on tiny screens, but now that's it being made for both a television, & a much larger handheld, maybe having 3d models that directly correlate to those sprites, doesn't work cus it looks cheap, & plasticly in HD, & underdetailed. Btw 16 bucks could get u both these games on the wii u, & another 10 for duel strike, which probably looks really good; this look cheap & barren, especially the map screens. Look at the game, not the brand.
@Classic603 the Wii software was a huge franchise, & was at its peak far more popular than splatoon, so therefore it is (was) a bigger franchise, no twisting needed, also Wii play was a hardware package, more so than a software one, make better comparisons, also ratings only matter in that they ensure a franchise's enduring popularity, which Metroid doesn't have despite its ratings, I say this as someone who probably enjoys even the missteps of Metroid, so I'm not poo-pooing the games, I'm poo-pooing the delusional fanbase. All they need to do is admit that they like games that are financially irrelevant, I can admit this.
@Classic603 popularity determines what is a big franchise, not the number of entries, & the series has always enjoyed popularity, splatoon was a big franchise from the word go. Don't bother redefining what words mean, Metroid is popular to a niche audience, therefore..... it's not.
@the_beaver 3 entries in the luigi's mansion series have outsold the entirety of metroid, aside from a hiatus in the 7th gen, luigi's mansion has been paying dividends, (I don't even like the franchise all that much....at the moment)
@Classic603 It sold almost 7 million on the 3ds, the original 2.5 million, 3 has done almost 10 million. no metroid game has reached 3 million, & only 2 came close, one is close to a juggernaut franchise, & the other despite having 10 or so games has never made returns worth talking about, there is no similarity in these franchise in regard to their popularity, metroid fans should practice self-awareness, this game might do 2 mil with the install base, if I was betting.
@Lord that you have a new game, yet are begging for them to waste resources on a port that would end up being a very similar experience to what it is on 3ds, tells me you are unimaginative, & have too much money.
while the contents of the presentation were fine, the presentation format sucks, & it needs to go. Takahashi & Koizumi added nothing, merely reiterating what was already seen, or redundantly saying "have a look". Smash should not be considered a headliner anymore, The zelda info was poorly handled & presented. In general, remasters, ports, indies, dlcs or games already talked to death should not get the amount of air time that the new announcements got. Watch the old directs to compare
@kingbk From the sounds of it, the switch suits your life style, which is fine & dandy, but in terms of original software, or contemporary releases....lets just say I don't have a switch anymore.
@kingbk I wonder how many of those games that fall under 3rd party support are either new or exclusive, or not readily available else where for much cheaper, & as a superior version. Even indie games which are plentiful on Switch, are in a slump compared to where they were in 2013-2017.
@nessisonett im hesitant to say if I liked even four switch exclusives, liked to a great degree. Gamecube is the Golden age, despite many of their major titles having noticeable rough edges, they were too creative & ambitious for that to matter.
The gamecube ps2 era was the golden age of gaming. That was when 3d games became truly modern enough to stand the test of time, but also were cheap enough to develop, that there was wide selection of double aa & triple AAA offerings. I consider the switch to be a dark age.
@AJ1 I got it, but it more sounds like a problem owning a switch, or like a problem with being an informed consumer, than it is owning a wii u. Anyone with a wii u, could play every wii game, buying them cheap, or already owning them, while also getting new games under the wii u moniker. I recently got rid of my switch cus of the rich library of wii games, & wii u games I could be playing for much cheaper.
@Mips alot of people lack a holistic approach when analyzing games, they look at things like: I liked that or I didn't like that. The original Mario platformers use ambition & character, & I say that without growing up with them. The new super Mario bros franchise is, in its best light, platform fodder.
@AJ1 playing a game 7 years earlier than everyone is not exactly a yoke, so I hope u were just being humorous, owning a system whose franchise's get ports & not new games, well that is terrible.
@BulbasaurusRex also, ive played MK8 for 300 or so hrs, I don't need to play it anymore, a new MK would've caught my interest potentially. Too bad the switch doesn't have enough power to top the visuals of the wii U, so they'd have to make it interesting on a gameplay lvl, which I doubt that they would. Really, its disappointing either way
@BulbasaurusRex double dash is where its at anyway, Mario kart 8 while looking pretty & feeling nice is short on substance comparatively. I don't have a switch anymore, didn't play it in the last 2-3 years. Ive given up on future Nintendo, their past catalogue is vast & rich. I have no faith that metroid Prime 4 will capture the brilliance of the 1st, it will probably remind me of three, unless its an entirely new direction, I dont think BotW 2 will fix the problems of the first (I'm the one guy who thinks that game is good, but not much beyond that). The Mario franchise might actually be doing something interesting admittedly, but everything else, (smash was a compilation of the familiar, with some weird rough edges& poor single player, pokemon....please), I'm not interested anymore, but I also realize that Nintendo cant make me interested with ports of games I do or can own, for much cheaper than they are selling them. Nintendo is dead, at least for this gen.
@Malcrash you're right in the past, I was always vexed when Nintendo made sequels to their top tier franchises. The fact that commenters here show greater reticence to purchasing a sequel than they do a port, tells me that Nintendo as a creative force is DEAD; and people like you killed it (I sound angrier than I actually am, I'm not actually personally offended).
@BulbasaurusRex had it on Wii U, didnt buy it on switch, so for the few of us left who don't care for redundancy, I'd like an MK9, but seeing that I don't have a switch anymore, I suppose I'm not holding my breath.
@SwitchVogel Oot isn't my favourite Zelda game, but Ocarina did a lot more than just transition link to the past into 3D (besides its closer to Link's awakening's design)
@Kevember the director is Fujibayashi, not saying that Aonuma doesnt hold a lot of power, but the best 3D Zeldas were under Aonuma or heavily involved him.
While breath of the Wild was in fact very creative & daring (& admittedly its hard to knock), I would say with confidence that it does not retain the core of the Zelda experience. The best thing that can be said about it is that it is very elegant in its open world design.
@Maxz, try to analyze the expression with a more figurative mindset rather than a literal one. On a side note, don't preach when the same reason I left a comment on this article is the same reason you're leaving a comment on my comment. But anyway, allow me to disambiguate for you, my use of the term is me looking down on someone who can't adjust to a world flip. I have played this game 8 times, all in the Wii world style, safe for the one time, & while I did mistakenly turn the wrong way from time to time, I'd be embarrassed at myself if it invalidated the game's greater qualities or caused me to overlook some of it mores important issues. The people unable to adjust, either didn't put enough time into it, too readily merit their sense of frustrations or lack any sort of perseverance; & that these same people would try to justify their complaints with notions of canon...... I don't need to explain why that is silly (or I shouldn't have to). Moreover, that one such person took the time to write this insipid piece about it as if it was interesting, instead of writing about the game's more subtle issues (subtle yet having deep implications), and that this is the feedback Nintendo gets on its products, leaves me to believe that great games are wasted on shallow-minded gamers, & Nintendo a profit-seeking probably also might believe that & might choose to spend their development resources on games that appease an instant gratification mindset, or games that hide shallow gameplay behind dazzling visuals & pretty colors. After all, If gamers can't handle flipped worlds or inverted controls, then surely they won't be able to handle games that challenge the player in any meaningful way (don't bother bringing up dark souls, those games represent a different "thing" where they fetishize & fixate on difficulty rather than integrating it into a more rounded & balanced experience). This generation of Nintendo games reflects this reality, & that's why I sold (practically gave away) my switch, and used that money to buy DK bongos instead. To conclude, giving air time to pointless niggles rather than analyzing a game's actual qualities is counterproductive & perhaps even harmful to the creative process.)
