I tried the demo on my Droid, but wasn't overly impressed. I may try it again sometime. Controls weren't an issue since I could use the Droid's D-pad, but the initial "quests" involving walking next door or to another part of town annoyed me.
It's almost amazing that no one ever thought of this before. It reminds me of the little tablets that teachers can use with Smartboards and Promethean boards.
They need to look into this again. I much prefer all-in-one portable devices rather than the clutter of a gaming device, a cell phone, an e-reader, etc. I think Nintendo could completely destroy the iPhone if they actually tried.
While the hardware is the same, they've already repackaged the Wii at a lower price point with more inside the box: Motion Plus and Wii Sports Resort. Personally I only think we'd see a stopgap if the Wii's successor is to be released two years or more later than the stopgap.
I don't know if the entire series had them, but NBA Street Vol. 2 had bosses you had to defeat. They then became playable characters. This sounds much more extreme.
I think a lot of the game critics are into this both because of Spector and because of the idea of a game that can change according to the decisions you make. That's the direction many core games on the PC and PS360 have been going in.
Nintendo fans, however, are looking for actual gameplay for their entertainment. Nintendo delivers more immediately fun gaming experiences rather than trying to imitate real-life morality in videogame form.
I have My Aquarium and it still gets occasional use when my 4-year-old asks for it. I was hoping you would actually be able to swim around the tank in Zenquaria, though even this limited feature might be entertaining to my little one. "Look! I'm swimming in the fish tank!"
I still might pick it up when it comes to the U.S.
Nintendo's new DRM mascot (the "new character" that Miyamoto is working on right now) will actually come out of the screen and ask if you have a receipt. If you can't produce one, you can't play the game.
I tried to register Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door when I first joined Club Nintendo. (I was basically going through the house finding every Nintendo game I could that we still had the code for.) It registered, but didn't give me anything for it.
I don't think this is anything new in terms of Nintendo policy. Most of us just didn't have the option of joining Club Nintendo before.
I saw this story elsewhere (Joystiq or IGN) and they pointed out how little Iwata and Miyamoto make compared to many other top people in the gaming industry. There's a reason Nintendo was turning a profit even during the GameCube era.
A lot of other people have pointed out that the game is almost too complicated, which may be why I let the touch screen controls get in my way. I do seem to have problems with stylus-based touch screen controls when there's too much going on; for instance, a lot of people love Elite Beat Agents, but I got very frustrated trying to hit the right thing at the right time and do all the slides without it misreading what I had done.
The touch screen combat can be very imprecise. When you're trying to use one attack, frequently you'll end up using a completely different one. The story is excellent, as is the innovation and customization, but the touch screen combat does bring it down a little.
They need to tread carefully here. I'm sure there will be a range of titles with a range of prices, but they need to make sure they don't scare people away with prices significantly higher than what they're used to paying. I could see $39.99 (US) as a fair price for a handheld game, as I've paid that price twice (God of War: Chains of Olympus and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant WIngs, both very good games), but anything higher feels like too much.
I think Microsoft was foolish to ditch the controller altogether. Having a camera monitor your movements is cool, and I think Nintendo would increase their accuracy if they added the camera in their next generation console.
I think Sony's Move is probably the most accurate form of motion control with the combination of controller and camera, as well as the fact that they realized this technology can make FPS games way more intuitive.
Even though I think Microsoft failed to create any killer apps for Kinect, I still see the potential if developers would start thinking outside the Wii box. I also think the technology is not all the way there, and that there should be some kind of simple controller for games that would work better with a button or two.
Move looks like it might be better, even if it is less original. It may have the potential to be far more accurate than either Kinect or WM+, as it combines the best of both. I don't even particularly like Sony, having owned and later sold both a PSP and a PS2, but I like that they seem more open to incorporating motion control into hardcore games. I still won't buy it, but I believe that strong competition makes everyone better.
I love Bejeweled 2, but I think I would have been more excited about it if it had been an early WiiWare title. Peggle and Zuma should also already be there, with Plants vs. Zombies coming out today.
I really don't understand PopCap being so slow with the Nintendo platforms, as their games have the same general audience as the Wii and DS.
The biggest things they could do are open up both the file size and the price points. Hopefully the 3DS has a lot more memory and speed so that it can handle larger files.
One of the biggest draws of download games is their price point, and Nintendo needs to allow lower prices than 200 points. Free demos would also help a lot.
This looks good. Maybe it's just because of the team that helped Cosmonaut, but I keep getting an underwater NyxQuest vibe. I mean, relics? Sounds familiar.
My biggest worry would be lack of control. Precise IR control can be a little fiddly sometimes. I remember sometimes having to try a couple times to get the wind in NyxQuest go the direction I wanted it to. I can't imagine how tricky that could get with a game like Flight Control.
I'm reassured by this, since I sometimes get motion sickness. I was unable to play Ratchet & Clank and Wind Waker due to the sick feeling I would get while playing them, and I also got that feeling when I rented that Simpsons Hit & Run game. I don't want 3D forced on me, because I suspect it would cause the same kinds of problems.
Yeah, I know I don't have to buy it, but I would like access to Nintendo's latest offerings and to FINALLY have access to a download store (can't afford a DSi and I always had the feeling the next handheld would come sooner than later, but I could afford a 3DS at launch if I start saving early).
They seem to be focusing on DSiWare right now. I think they're trying to make sure there's a nice collection of downloadable games to choose from when the 3DS releases. Good thing there are still 15,000 WiiWare and VC titles I'm interested in and haven't downloaded yet!
It sounds like they made sure it was challenging. I'm hoping the support from Over the Top helped them to make this game as well-balanced in difficulty as NyxQuest was.
@110percentful: Your joke went right over a lot of heads. I guess nobody has little ones around. My 4-year-old is Tiana's biggest fan!
As for the game, I keep hesitating on the Wiiware version. Without a demo, I would hate to spend the money and end up hating it. I loved the original Frogger, and played the Apple IIe version to death as a child. I'm sure it'll be great as DSiWare...somehow I never expect quite as much out of handheld games.
The co-development makes sense. I was reminded of NyxQuest's relaxed vibe (the one the early levels have). Hopefully it will also have that challenge level that makes NyxQuest far from relaxing!!
Personally, I'm still trying to figure out any possible reason I would want an oversized iPod Touch when I could get a real laptop with tons of memory and a lot more functionality for the same price. I find the iPad puzzling at best.
I tried the freeware version and found the controls annoying. I don't know if they're any better at all in this expanded game, but I prefer to feel as in control of the game as possible. One button control is awesome when we're talking about a game where it's logical, like Tomena Sanner, but it just doesn't seem to make sense here.
This game was a great third-person water-gun shooter. Actually it is a very fun game, with probably the best hub world of all the 3D Marios. There are some levels that really annoyed me, though--when I replay the game, I almost never bother with the 8th Shine Sprite in any area. There are some other annoying levels as well, but it's still a great game overall, even with the lousy end boss.
It's weird how we all crave money when it seems like all it ever leads to is unhappiness. I mean, I sometimes wish I had more money than I have, but even I realize that if I had more money I'd blow it on games and probably become jaded from playing so many different games. Not to mention the family troubles it would cause...
Might have to try the PC version to see if I like it or not. It is kind of hard to tell what's going on in the trailer, but I'm always looking for games that are fun to play with my kids.
Maybe there is no motion. The whole game consists of still shots, with the correct input leading to another beautiful screen, and the incorrect input leading to the death screen. Seriously, I can't figure out how they can do this with only 40mb unless there are only a small number of fairly small environments.
It really looks like a lot of fun. I tried the first Metroid Prime a few years ago and it really didn't do anything for me. I haven't tried any other Metroid games since then, but that trailer really got my attention.
@Tsuchinoko: Go to www.nintendo.com and select the appropriate country. There should be a link or tab to take you to Club Nintendo, where you can sign up and start registering your games. You can register retail Nintendo-published games that you bought new. You can also take surveys both on these games and any games you've downloaded if you link your shop channel to your Club Nintendo account.
For some reason I think my kids and I would have fun together with the Ultra-Hand game. I've already got the coins and while I don't expect it to be one of our all-time greatest most-played games, it looks like something we might play a lot for a couple weeks. I'll wait for a review to make sure it's not broken or anything.

Can't judge for sure, but from the trailer I think I'd rather just play Zack & Wiki while wearing a cowboy hat.
