Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Tops "Best Seller" Chart On Amazon, As Pre-Orders Sell Out

MajorTom

@Dr_Lugae
Should the Mario and Zelda franchise not be devalued ages ago when Nintendo released them as select titles for 25 euro on the wii, 3ds and wii u or when they released the download version on the wii u for 20 euro?
I doubt that the price of the Crash trilogy has anything to do with Crash 4 selling less. The trilogy released on more platforms than 4 did and the nostalgia for the old trilogy will always be bigger than a new game with a different art-style.
Also It charted first in the UK sales chart for its first week. And eventually sold at least 830000 copies if you look at game stats (ps4 and xbox one combined), while the PC and Switch version still need to release.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Tops "Best Seller" Chart On Amazon, As Pre-Orders Sell Out

MajorTom

I am really starting to think that a big amount of nintendo fans lost the value of money.
Activision released the trilogy remakes of Crash and Spyro both for the base price of 40 euro.
Sega recently released the remasters of Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 all for 20 euro each or 40 euro in a bundle with all 3 included.
Grasshopper Manufacture released the Killer7 remaster on pc and released No More Heroes 1 and 2 remastered on switch all for 20 euro each.
And some nintendo fans call people who consider 60 euro overpriced for a upscaled wii port "internet rage mobs". like @KryptoniteKrunch did XD

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Become First Entries Since Gold And Silver To Surpass 20 Million Sales

MajorTom

I don't understand how some people use sales as happy customers, JellyPop worded my thoughts pretty well. There obviously are many customers who likely are happy with the game but I assume a lot of them also got a lot of critique for the series.

Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13 million so far and that also got its fair amount of disappointed fans. I myself liked it, but that mainly is because I played it on a decent PC (which means I had a lot less problems than most console players) and didn't have the highest expectations for the story. I love the world of the game. But saying the complaints from others aren't there because it sold well is just ignoring facts. Another example could be the last of us 2. The friends I know who bought it hated the story of it, but considered the technical aspects of it very good. But a story driven game with a bad story is not the best experience for the player.

I myself have not bought Pokemon Sword or Shield, but I did enough research to come to my conclusion. I want the franchise to evolve and become something worth the gen it is on like other RPGs such as Dragon Quest XI or Yakuza Like a Dragon.

Re: New Pokémon Snap Scores April Release Date On Switch, Watch The New Trailer Here

MajorTom

@dew12333 Well sword and shield aren't exactly open world either. Most routes are rather small corridors which you will likely be able to compare to the stages of snap. (with likely more detail in snap from what I saw in the trailer) The base game of sword and shield only has one open area, which is not really graphically advanced or lively at all. They improved on open areas with the last dlc but that is another story (and also not part of the base game storage amount)

Re: Hideki Kamiya Says Bayonetta 3's Development Is "Going Very Well"

MajorTom

@faint I get your point, I also don't expect it will be cancelled. Btw the last FF 16 trailer was just 3 months ago so not the best example to give XD, but yah the elder scrolls is 2 years ago now. Bayonetta 3 is likely pretty far in development and hopefully not that far away. It mostly is the mediasilence for 3 years that make the fans worry. I would have at least expected to see something visual of the game within that timeframe if you consider that the developmentcycle of the games from Platinum aren't that long. You got a good point with the amount of games that Platinum released and is working on right now. They also are working on babylon's fall and I think they also play a part in the remake of Nier (not 100% certain) right now.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Says Bayonetta 3's Development Is "Going Very Well"

MajorTom

@faint What has a game that has been in development for 3 years without any news to do with 2020? Yes 2020 is obviously part of those 3 years, but blaming it on covid is the easy way out.... It makes sense that people are getting skeptical after 3 years of silence except for their yearly tweet of "develoment is going fine". Not even 1 screenshot has been shown within those years.
Edit: Also it is likely already more than 3 years in development since the teaser trailer was released 3 years ago. I doubt they would release a teaser without them even starting on the project.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Remasters And Much More In Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

MajorTom

@Friendly
I have been a big Nintendo fan since the GBA, but some of the recent decisions of Nintendo aren't to my liking. Now that you mention micro transactions, the mobile games by Nintendo got some scummy practices. But at least they don't add them to their console games yet.
A big part of me not considering this bundle worth it is likely that I still got Mario 64 installed on my Wii U and Mario Galaxy physical for my Wii. I don't see the appeal of buying them again. Maybe if they had more visual improvements. XD
Since I am one of the less people that has a Wii U, it makes the recent and upcoming games for the Switch by Nintendo mostly games that I already played.
Edit: Btw I think I will stop commenting for now. I think I flooded the comment section enough for now. It was a nice conversation. XD

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Remasters And Much More In Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

MajorTom

@Friendly 1) Pokémon is actually the biggest franchise of the world but yes you are correct that Mario is certainly bigger than Crash (who for that matter only recently made a comeback).
2) Since the Mario bundle is a limited release Nintendo likely calculated the amount they have to sell for a big profit, and a remake also costs a lot more to make than a remaster (up-scaling to HD). But yes in general a multiplatformer should be easier to sell.
3) You are right that the Mario games take a bit longer to beat than Crash games (not by a that big margin if you only play the story mode). But does that mean that RPG games are worth a lot more because they take a lot longer to beat?
Also the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remaster costs 30 euros/ bucks. I also don't consider it worth it but since it is a single game it seems more reasonable for production costs since they also added a bit more to it than to the games in this bundle, like the extra dungeon.
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/final-fantasy-crystal-chronicles-remastered-edition-switch/
https://www.nintendo.nl/Games/Nintendo-Switch/FINAL-FANTASY-CRYSTAL-CHRONICLES-Remastered-Edition-1438887.html
Btw you made some good points, I guess the price for some games really is a personal opinnion like you said before.
I like to repeat that I am sorry for the namecalling, this is a nice discussion.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Remasters And Much More In Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

MajorTom

@Friendly That is why I compared it to a bundle of 3 platform games (both bundles are 3 platformers) that feature a iconic character (Crash and for this Mario). While those even were remakes for a lower price-point (40 for the remakes and 60 for the up-scaled ports). A lot of factors were accounted for.
I also compared them to literary the same games that released on the Wii U. (30 for 2 of the 3 games vs 60 for the 3 games total). You should expect that bundles are less expensive than buying the games seperate.
Giving the remasters of turds vs masterpieces example showed that you are not open to discussion since the comparison was clearly of the Crash Bandicoot remasters and this Mario bundle. Which showed that you obviously compared these games to masterpieces and the Crash remasters to turds.
Edit: Also if you really didn't think much further than giving a bad example like "comparing turds to masterpieces" then I am sorry for calling you a fanboy.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Remasters And Much More In Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

MajorTom

@Friendly
Why should you not compare the price to similar products? (The games I compared it to even are remakes instead of up-scaled ports which makes it even worse)
I will never consider a port of a 15 year old game worth 30 bucks. I am not a fan of the direction that Nintendo is going right now with only releasing old Wii U ports for full price and now this collection.

Re: Nintendo Is Deleting Hacked Dream Island Uploads In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

MajorTom

@johnvboy Yes you cheated to change the time, that doesn't mean that it is bad to cheat. Having reasons to cheat doesn't change the meaning of it. I got nothing against cheating as long it isn't used at the expense of someone else which doesn't happen in Animal Crossing. So nothing bad about it. However, that doesn't change the meaning of the word cheating.
Let's give a game example. In GTA 3 (or whatever old GTA that has implemented cheat codes in it) I want to save the game but I can't because I got a 3-star crime rating with cops behind me. I can drive around for 15 minutes to shake them off or use a button combination (the cheat code) so that the cops won't chase me anymore. Does this mean I didn't cheat in the game because I had to go somewhere and had to save the game? Obviously not, I still used a cheat code.
Edit:
And sure let's agree to disagree, I see your point. It is that you mainly see cheating as something bad within the game, while I also see cheating as an option that is given by for example the developers of the game. It was a nice discussion.

Re: Nintendo Is Deleting Hacked Dream Island Uploads In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

MajorTom

@johnvboy Well you never gave an explanation about how cheating the flow of time is not cheating or how cheat codes are not cheating. Only argument you have is that hacking the game is cheating. Yes hacking obviously is cheating but that doesn't change the fact that cheating the flow of time or using cheat codes in games isn't cheating. You do know cheat codes don't require codes outside the software right? Like I mentioned before the konami code is implemented within many games just like cheat codes to get free weapons or lower the crime-rate in GTA. Most of the time they only require a sequence of button prompts.

Re: Nintendo Is Deleting Hacked Dream Island Uploads In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

MajorTom

@johnvboy You miss my point since my first comment completely. Like I said since the beginning, I got nothing against time travelling. I got something against people trying to deny something for what it is. You can time travel for all you want but trying to go this far to justify that it is not cheating while it literally is gets on my nerves. You are altering the system settings (cheating the system) to travel time (cheating the flow of time). How can you not see this? Cheating is not something I consider bad in a singleplayer game, but it still is what it is. Like I said three times already, cheat codes exist in games to use which is like what you say. Even if it is implemented and you have reasons for using them doesn't mean that you didn't cheat.

Re: Nintendo Is Deleting Hacked Dream Island Uploads In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

MajorTom

@johnvboy The point is that time travelling is cheating, not that we care if he cheats. It is that some people keep denying to call something for what it is. I read a fair amount of the comments and none of them seem to be rude, they mostly just give the definition of time travelling being cheating.
I honestly don't mind people time travelling, I myself also did it in previous Animal Crossing's. Still, I can accept that what I did was cheating the system that the game works on and I won't deny that fact.
On topic:
It certainly makes sense for Nintendo to delete dreams from modded islands like those that include star trees. These islands have altered data which maybe could give problems when it is uploaded into the servers.

Re: Nintendo Is Deleting Hacked Dream Island Uploads In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

MajorTom

@Anti-Matter You literally cheat the flow of time in the game. I honestly don't mind if you do it, but not calling it cheating is lying to yourself. Nintendo also did a lot to prevent time-travelling, like how turnips spoil, the seasonal event being update locked and how they lowered the interest rate of the bank. Also the auto-save feature is basically how they try to tackle resetting now without using mr. Resetti.
Btw I got nothing against cheating, I actually like it when games include cheatcodes and such. They haven't been included as much as they used to and that is a shame.

Re: Soapbox: Forget Terraforming And Crafting, 'Island Hopping' Is The Best Thing About Animal Crossing: New Horizons

MajorTom

The island hopping for specific villagers feels like a mobile gacha mechanic in my opinion. It even gave the game a unhealthy online black market economy because of that with Nook miles being sold for real money. I mainly use the mystery islands for some bug farming once in a while. (which is basically the same I did in New Leaf on Tortimer island while that even had the perk of it being always summer for sharks and beetles)
Edit:
Like said before mystery islands are also fairly limited in the kinds of fruits or flowers you can get from them. You are only able to get your natives island fruit or your sister fruits type from them, same goes for the flowers which also only is one of two types per island. So after you got your sister fruit and second flower type growing you can only get the other types of fruits from playing online with other players and buying the flowers from Leif or Nook's Cranny.
I guess the Islands are the most useful for getting resources, but after the first two weeks of playing the game I got more resources than I needed stockpiled by normal gameplay. It feels like they mostly were introduced to get enough iron nuggets to build the original version of Nook's Cranny.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

MajorTom

@Ultrasmiles Well, Shin Megami Tensei V is confirmed for 2021 so that one can be off your 2020 list for sure.
Bravely Default 2 and No More Heroes 3 still have a fair chance this year, but I honestly don't see Metroid Prime, Bayonetta, BOTW 2 and Rune Factory 5 releasing this year.
You can add Deadly Premonition 2 to the list of exclusives of this year though. (although not first-party)

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

MajorTom

I have a feeling that everyone who picked 2015 barely remembered what games released that year. (I also didn't remember till I saw that list in the comments) 2015 gave us Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade X, Yoshi's Wooly World and more. 2016 was probably the worst year I would say.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

MajorTom

@Slowdive
I think that you really underestimate Splatoon here. Maybe you didn't like it but that doesn't mean that it wasn't HUGE. It is by far Nintendos biggest new franchise. (Number 18 of all nintendo franchises right now while it only has 2 games. https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Best_selling_Nintendo_games )
It sold almost 5mil units on the Wii U, which means that more than 1/3rd of the Wii U owners actually owned it (the Wii U sold 13,5 mil units). That game is probably one of the only games that got more Wii U sales instead of owners leaving the system.

Re: It Sounds Like E3 2020 Is Going To Be Cancelled

MajorTom

@GrandScribe "the fact you said what you did in response say a lot about you."
The only thing that I did was point out your obvious contradiction. What did I even do for that matter other than saying. "Your two statements seem to contradict each other."? Which is a fact. What does it say about me? It seems to say more about you for that matter, let that sink in.

Re: It Sounds Like E3 2020 Is Going To Be Cancelled

MajorTom

@GrandScribe
"there is one person who shares way more blame than anyone else Donald Trump."
"but I never came close to saying its all his fault you came up with that all on your own."

"Shares way more blame than anyone else"
"never came close to saying its all his fault"

Your two statements seem to contradict each other.

On topic:
I think that the corona-virus gets blown out of proportions in a lot of countries. In my country the only people that seem to have become victim to it are 80+. Which is obviously a sad thing that happened, but I have doubts that corono would be the only cause of death at that age. At the same time my country's representatives say that we shouldn't even shake hands anymore.
Also with the absense of some major parties like Sony there could also be more reasons that E3 doesn't take place this year.

Re: Expect "Big News" From A "Full Speed" PlatinumGames This Year

MajorTom

@Trmn8r Babylon's Fall is also coming to PC, so it isn't exactly Sony exclusive.

@Link3710 Babylon's Fall was actually announced at E3 of 2018, while Bayonetta 3 was announced at The Game Awards of 2017. So Bayonetta 3 was first, but you are correct about it being announced before Astral Chain.

Re: Ghostlight Becomes Certified Switch Dev, Ready To Bring Fantastic Games To System

MajorTom

@gloom and @Setupdisk
I mostly check nintendolife and gematsu but In the last couple of months it always feels like gematsu seems to publish the news a lot earlier than nintendolife like this article. So you really don't need to follow that many places like twitter and such to know it before. So you can also add gematsu on the list for getting the news earlier. https://gematsu.com/2018/08/ghostlight-to-port-japanese-rpgs-to-switch
Edit: No problem.

Re: Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard Has Been Transformed Into A “Fatal Cutie” In SNK Heroines

MajorTom

@JayJ What kind of toxicity did I bring? I only showed the comment that you yourself posted as one of the first in this section. You were basically one of the first to bring the toxicity to the comments in the first place and then call other people toxic. It is hard to not see the hypocrisy here......
You could easily have stated that the game was not your thing but you went so far as calling it "everything that is wrong with Japanese gaming". You really came in the comment section for some fun right??

"If anything, this just goes to prove why the fanbase for this game should be avoided."
Seems like you also don't read what is said to you since I told you that I don't like 2D fighting games, which doesn't make me part of the fanbase. Guess some people really only see what they want to see.

Re: Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard Has Been Transformed Into A “Fatal Cutie” In SNK Heroines

MajorTom

@JayJ
"With the way they can gang up on anyone who isn't like them, it is no wonder the community is lacking in diversity. This is easily one of the most toxic comments sections I have ever seen on this site, and it is no wonder why."

Yes, comment sections about those games certainly bring in people who are calling people trash because they like certain kind of games.
Like a certain someone's first comment did:
#11 "To be honest it feels like a good example of everything that is wrong with Japanese gaming these days. Everything needs to be about anime waifus."

I will probably not get this game since I am not that into 2D-fighting games but I consider it funny that some people are so hypocrite.

Re: Soapbox: What Splatoon 2 Can Learn From Fortnite And Paladins, And Vice Versa

MajorTom

@FoxyGlen
"Skins don't have to be meaningless – particularly if they show off your time investment like the Fortnite and Paladins skins. I also think it's a fairer system than Splatoon's, which locks the best equipment behind a massive pay/timewall."

Most Fortnite skins are inside the v-buck shop which means that they are bought with microtransactions. This doesn't really show how much time you put into the game. Same can be said about the battle pass since you can actually buy yourself into the higher tiers to unlock the skins by using real money. In Paladins it is the same, most skins are in the RNG chests you buy with crystals and you can also buy levels of the battle pass to unlock everything without any effort. For the matter about the massive pay/timewall. Isn't the exp you require for the battle pass not the same as a timewall?
BTW I have to agree that being able to skip the intro and being able to have the clothes as cosmetics in Splatoon would be a nice addition. XD

Re: Review: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (Switch)

MajorTom

@Megadeth @GKO900
True that, some Nintendo games certainly seem to get a free pass. That Pokémon Quest game certainly doesn't deserve the 7 it got while I am actually a pretty big Pokémon fan. XD
Same goes for that weird Sushi Striker puzzle game. It didn't look bad but saying it is worth a 8, no way.
Still some non-Nintendo game also seem to have inconsistent scorings. Ys VIII, got a 9 which I consider it deserved (although a 8 would also have been good for it). But they gave games like Gal*Gun 2 a 5, which is a pretty harsh score. I can agree it is not for everyone and I myself also haven't played it but it still seems really low. Then there is one score that I really don't understand which is a 7 for some mobile port of an endless runner called Chameleon Runner Deluxe. XD
tl;dr : It seems like the scoring system of this site is pretty random.
