I use the candle trick! Because I've lost my original sensor bar, I now use a battery powered wireless bar, and when it's out of batteries, or I don't want to waste batteries, I light up two candles instead. It's like worshipping Satan and playing video games at the same time!
Nintendo is evil because they burn children and skin tanooki's
when playing the demo i realized that capcom probably wasn't very concerned about making this game scary. silent hill has had this series beat in that area for a long time. it's a shame, because that would have put this game over the top for me. it's still very appealing, but not because of the scare factor. hoping silent hill will come out in 3d someday!
wait, don't develop somewhere else! even if Icon's products are generally horrible, that's not the issue. the issue is that N is making it difficult for all indie devs, not just Icon.
two things...episodic releases should have at least two episodes. also, Sonic 4 is not very good. i don't remember if it was this site or ign that noticed it, but the control was way off. how could they screw that up? because it's sonic and they're sega and that's what they do?
@Link79: i was curious/annoyed also, so I used the internet...from urban dictionary:
An adjective used in hip-hop culture to describe someone who is considered to be well respected, coming from a combination of the words "true" and "real".
That just leaves the mystery of the all-caps and quotes...Layton? Lautrec? Gumshoes?
@rjejr: second what battletoad is saying. I remember playing Okami on wii, and it was so improved, yet I couldn't draw/paint very easily with the wiimote. It somehow seamed easier on PS2.
I like this article except for one thing: older releases make great gifts too. Especially in the case of MW3, there's a lot of great "hardcore" wii games in the bargain bin that would be better gifts than this game IMO. NBA Jam, Godeneye, DKCR, NMH2, HotD:O, Metroid Prime Trilogy, or Bit.Trip come to mind...Sin and Punishment, Monster Hunter...
@Graph: I know, they're delicious. They just shouldn't be tortured. That's where I agree with PETA. I disagree with them on a lot of points though. To me, PETA is like Michael Moore. The cause is just, yet they often dabble in sensationalism and hyperbole.
Look, I know everyone here loves Nintendo and Mario, and I know PETA is known for publicity "stunts", but let's not confuse what these two institutions are about. Nintendo is about making games (and selling them), and PETA is about animal rights. All PETA did was release a statement about how a certain animal is skinned alive for its fur. They want to raise awareness around the world about how it's unethical to treat these animals so poorly. They're really just doing their jobs here. Nintendo essentially dressed their mascot in fur, so PETA objects.
For the record, I don't think Nintendo has done anything wrong. But PETA should not be villainized for speaking out against animal cruelty. Can you imagine what it would be like to be skinned alive? It would hurt right?
Hey, I used to be a kid, and I didn't like crappy games. A lot of the games I liked, like Mario, Castlevania, Duck Hunt, Megaman, I still like...because they were good. Why the sentiment for giving Disney a break because the game is made for kids? Trust me, that company has enough resources to make something good, they just didn't this time. No free rides Mickey.
@ TheDarkness: I normally buy pre-owned, plus more into the single-player experience of RE4, so Mercs doesn't really appeal. Shadow Wars looks really good, although it doesn't seem to have any "wow"-factor, like something that couldn't have been done on the DS. Same thing with Devil Survivor. And DoA prolly wouldn't even hold my attention as long as SF4 did. Chances are I'll check Devil Survivor and Shadow Wars when I can get them cheap. Still waiting for that killer original app though! Mario Kart, RE, Mario, and Icarus will probably do nicely.
It's crazy that it takes a 20 year old gb game to give me a reason to boot up my 3ds. So I got a new system at launch and played SF4 and Zelda, and I've just been waiting for something else worth playing. This is definitely it. It's just weird that all these games worth playing are ports/remakes/vc. Starfox looks awesome, but I really want an original experience from my 3ds. That's why I bought a new system. Gargoyle's Quest 3D? That would be awesome!
I'm super excited about a drawing tablet for the wii. The cartoonish look of the interface is kind of a turn-off. it looks more art alive than mario paint. i mean less charming, more crappy.i would also like to see mario paint or something even more professional if the tablet actually works well. wouldn't be surprised if the homebrew scene comes through in that regard.
ok, i'm sick of it. f those rabbids. they're un-games. give me the original rayman. and i did give them a chance, i just don't care anymore. they're like some metaphor for the consumer. they're like the 5th shrek movie. f it. it makes me want to throw up.
treeofmana, thanks for the information, that's really nice of you. the quality problem i was talking about has to do with the the only ds output, the headphone jack. you can use a digital converter box that connects via firewire or usb, but i don't think you'd get any better quality than just plugging the ds straight into your soundcard with an 1/8 stereo cord like this NL artical suggested. i personally did use a "bridge" device, my 8 track mixer, before sending the signal to my pc. that was just so i could play with the eq and record other instruments.
what i was suggesting is that the ds could send digital audio wirelessly. no conversion means no loss in quality. if the ds had usb, optical, or firewire out, it could be done that way too. every headphone out jack has built in amplification, in this case controlled by the volume knob, and this little amp almost always creates a buzzing noise in the line. if you follow this guide you will hear it. it can be cut out by tweaking the volume knob or eq either on your bridge device or the eq in your recording software, but not eliminated.
here's hoping the 3ds supports optical out or wireless audio out
i never really saw the point of upgrading to a dsi, but every time someone releases a new music tool for the system (especially the ds-10 plus) i get jealous. it seems like there should be a way to send audio data via wireless. recording through a headphone jack doesn't give you the cleanest audio, but it's serviceable. i've released music that features drum tracks and basslines straight out of ds-10 through the headphone jack. search itunes for "so this is olympus" or "agnostic country singer" if you want to give 'em a listen.
Ok, if there's two more years of Wii left, does that mean we're seeing the best there is in the system's life-cycle right now? Could next year's E3 be all vitality sensors and Animal Crossing?
@Ickaser: Yeah, I think you're right. When I first saw this thing, I thought it was a paintbrush remote. A paintbrush nunchuck doesn't make as much sense.
@JebbyDerringer: I agree. Placing the logo on these types of items sometimes creates a paradigm. The cool thing about this remote design is it makes you feel like your holding and using a high-tech tool from the Tron world. But in the Tron world, they don't put "Tron" on all their items.
I want to see more of these things. The paintbrush for Epic Mickey looks awesome too. These are way better than placebo plastic attachments that turn your remote into, say, a tennis racket. Why not make a custom remote that IS a tennis racket?
I agree too. Nintendolife had the best coverage and you (seemingly) only had one person on the floor. Corbie really brought home the experience for all of us that wish we could have been there.
I think Nintendo has been burned by developing 3-d tech that had such a narrow appeal. They will probably wait until 3-d television is the standard, and then make games for it.
i don't think there's anything mature about playing games on your tv. that's what's good about it. nobody's going to watch someone playing a video game and say "wow, look at the stunning level of maturity that person is displaying". given that, i still think there are games out there that will appeal to adults because of complex themes, not the adult content. killer 7, eternal darkness, no more heroes, silent hill come to mind. i know i'm leaving out some really obvious choices.
@donatello: blanch? oh my god, she was scary. that whole move scared the crap out of me when i was a kid. i wonder what i would think now? now that i'm a man, i have to agree the soil of my heart is stonier. come to think of it, blanch looks exactly like ju-on, except she's not asian. maybe you're just not afraid of asians.
Wii games I want to play online: Call of Duty WaW and Reflex. Not mario, not kart, not smash, not anything else. NSMBW was made to get generations of gamers into the same room to play Mario together and make some noise. Try that out. Then go turn on your xbox, put on the little headset, log in, and listen to a 12 year call you a homosexual for about five hours. Which experience was more fun?
@shadoflame76: You are not alone I almost wish this game had gotten the 8-bit treatment like Megaman 9. I agree that Rondo of Blood is king of the hill, but not king of my heart. I want 3 rebirthed with more spirit companions. Maybe we can just collect them instead making us choose. It was always a sad moment saying goodbye to Grant!
I don't like the way GOW relies so heavily on scripted events, especial the "interactive" cut scenes. Just let me watch the scene without worrying about giant shapes popping up! An overworld for Kratos to explore atop Pegasus would be awesome. Shadow of the Colossus with regular sized baddies to whoop up on too.
