Wii u owners have to have at least a laptop right? I love this game, but the new music isn't great, it's standard. Gamepad integration idea: loop slo-mo replay of last death. Just seems like Nintendo fans get treated like they don't have any other options sometimes and will be fine with bare bones ports arriving years after everyone else at a premium price. Would get 3ds version!
region free, custom themes, and snes may be cool, but do you know what's REALLY cool? following all the rules, especially end user agreements! think about that you despicable hackers.
@BulbasaurusRex Yeah, i agree with the people who say that it's "scratching an itch". As someone who didn't get to proceed with FFTA2 because of a broken loot dynamic, this is the best thing to come along in a while. I enjoy Valkeria Chronicles and Xcom, but not CS. Tried several times to get into FE...i don't know what it is. Would jump at the chance to play a new Advance Wars though. I guess strategy players are somewhat divided. If you like FFT, the lack of polish isn't going to matter for this one. I actually prefer the scaled-back presentation here, because it means more of what I like (progression, free battles, etc). Fast-forwarding the cliche story though!
my guess would be the headset plug on the laptop is the problem. these are usually combo stereo-out mono-in inputs. The end of a headset cord, like one you'd use with your phone, has three black stripes on it instead of two. I find these types of inputs problematic, but there's probably a way to make it work with an adapter. You're much better off getting a usb audio input device. I use a small behringer usb-powered mixer with my laptop. If you have access to a desktop, most of those have normal stereo line inputs that will work with the stereo cord you have.
Better not revamp that graphic! Sega 3d classics are my favorite thing on the system. It really feels like by owning them you're contributing to the preservation of 16 bit history. I hope M2 never stop with this series. You know they work hard to polish every release. Delays just mean a little more polish I guess
@misogynistic I found the one person who thinks Freddy's is better than Isaac! Freddy's is OK, but Isaac is like game of the year material. Everybody who thinks they're above it, try it. Once you get into it, you won't even care about the debate.
@ecco6t9 I was just thinking about that this week. But you know what happens after reductive and often meaningless PC social trends? A backlash. Last time it came in the form of raunch culture (eg Paris Hilton, girls gone wild, etc). I'm genuinely concerned about the filth that will arrive in response to the trigger warning tumblr sjw collegiate word killers who would object to the term gameboy. Anyway, gameboy is a hell of a brand. If Nintendo wasn't very stupid, they would be selling super Wii's and gameboy 3d. That way, even people who don't care about games would understand what their products are.
Kratos is the funny part about this story. Even though it boasts the leading console, Sony just can't buy cool. M$ got a great deal with Battletoads, kind of wish everybody just got toads. If we get new characters for Nintendo consoles...how about a Link, Samus, or Belmont? Actually the ultimate meta solution is some Scrooge McDuck. That would be awesome!
everything about the western release of this title is an embarrassment. good one, Nintendo. some have already mentioned that software like this should just be included with the console os. this is absolutely true, a title like this should have been here at launch for handhelds and wii u. not to mention the software is essentially broken with less functionality than the original title. I was waiting for this one too...anyone interested in animation should check out inchworm and colors 3d. Colors is actually able to do animation...it's a bit tricky, but at least you won't have to reach for a screwdriver when you want to share from your new 3ds.
@Kaze_Memaryu that comparison makes no sense. More like owning a rifle and modifying it to use imported or home-made ammunition. And what is pretentious about homebrew? Maybe you're thinking of microbrews?
It had a chance. Every week it gets a chance. Nintendo blew it, plain and simple. Many of us refuse to pay for the same games over and over again on multiple platforms with no hope of retention, even if the release schedule is acceptible, which it isn't.
it's strange that warioware diy is like five years old and we're just now seeing this...will have to wait and see how Nintendo handles this idea. right off the bat, it seems like it's not enough. I want 3ds crossplay/sharing, tilesets from all the big Mario games, varients/mutators, music editing, and like some way to weed through crap levels and showcase/bundle the best offerings.
has some cool features. morse code chat alone is worth the zero dollars. idk about ten either, but this is a 3ds title not iphone or whatever. seems about right.
It's true, the gamecube comparisons need to stop. This is like a wii without hype for its innovations. I remember when the wii came out, as a gamer i was excited because the focus seemed to be about fun and involvement over graphics and white muscle dudes killing things. IMO the wii didn't quite live up to the hype, I mean how many 1:1 swordfighting games did we get? how about 1:1 light sabre action? we got a lot of waggle and minigames, but I still greatly enjoyed my wii, and after playing through the library, I'm just now ready to buy a ps3/360 and catch up on being a white muscle dude on the cheap. But what is the wii u offering? i'd say the main problem with nintendo isn't the lack of 3rd party support, it's a lack of inspiration/imagination. you have to sell me on the possibilities, something i can get excited about. remember, both current gen competitors have options for using a small screen in addition to the tv. Is Nintendo really doing anything to separate itself from the pack in an appealing way this time?
dear publishers, plz don't bring doggieoopsiepoopiepoodle ports to 3ds...we're doing just fine without them. i don't want any 2.5d castlevanias either, f that. just pop out the originals or something with 3d graphics....hey, how about sotn 3d? anybody just get really excited. but no, we have to have a crap version of a batman game people got sick of last year with like an origin story that doesn't even really make sense. thanks.
you guys, we have to buy these games. maybe somebody will pay attention and release even more awesomeness. M2 is doing an amazing job with something that i would probably buy even if they just did the bare minimum...and maybe N will notice the sales and do something better with their 3d classics lineup.
if you're going to go out, go out like a boss. the dreamcast didn't fail us, we failed the dreamcast. if the "kids" don't get it, let them fail. let them tap and smear their greasy fingers on apple's idiot machines. it's not about money, it's about culture. and i say this knowing how much nintendo loves money. but it seems to me, that they may love the culture they've created slightly more. one can hope!
I appreciate the transparency in both XSEED's statements and Nintendo Life's coverage. It's important to see developers/publishers as people and not entities. If I can see their reasoning as business people, I can respect why they would avoid projects with high artistic merit. Many of the people commenting here are correct: it's the fault of the consumer in many cases that drivel is released instead of gold.
the discussion here in the comments is slightly more interesting than the legal/numbers content of the article. it's like an oral history, maybe not completely accurate, but what we collectively remember about the icon.
atari is like a founding father of the culture we all enjoy. its many failures in the industry still don't compromise that fact that they were there in the beginning and are responsible for many wonderful experiences and products. if you can't respect that, then i can't f with you.
konami...finally something for the ladies! everyone, let's just act like adults here. did you really think werewolves got delivered by the stork or something? they NEED those genitals!
Nintendo is the Joe Biden of the game industry. Every time I hear about policies like this, I'm shocked and amused. It's like they live in some strange magical world. Miyamato never stops smiling. Anyway, we are adults, Nintendo. You should know. You raised us. We were kids for Donkey Kong (and some of us were kids for Donkey Kong Country), but now we're much older. Even in Europe...
Anybody else think the 3ds isn't getting enough love? I'm an early adopter, and saw an unprecedented price cut and some major early-model design flaws. The screen scratches itself up, doesn't lock into place properly, and battery life is horrible. Also, I'm not interested in playing older games on my new 3d console. A handful of GBA/NES titles don't really excite me too much. And 3d remakes of n64 games are ok, I guess, but not what made me interested in the 3ds in the first place. Here's hoping Nintendo doesn't let the 3ds quietly die off as they focus on the Wii U and its gamepad.
Oh, thanks Nintendo. My user experience is exactly the same...lines in my top screen caused by your poor design and a handful of ancient ROMs in exchange for being an early adopter (ambassador).
I'm sorry, but I don't give a damn about economics. When I was a child obsessed with video games, I had absolutely no idea that the video game industry (Atari) had crashed. When Nintendo emerged, there was continuity, they had earned their place. Why should I care now? Why should I observe markets? What does that have to do with gaming? I am the consumer, after all. Study me, if you want. But I will not study you. I will play (and buy) your games, if they are worth playing.
I don't understand this review saying you have to share your photos online in 2D only. Couldn't you use a service like 3dporch.com to upload your photos and share in 3d?
@Samholy MDK2 and the first one are really cool, often goofy-looking, often-beautiful games. I don't really like the professor levels but being a four armed dog with a jet pack was awesome.
Hmmm...I suspect AB is successful because of a combination of factors. It's certainly not the first "knock-over-the-tower" type of game. Steven Spielberg was sure he had a hit on his hands with Boom Blox. And of course, the Worms games, and the games that inspired it (Scorched Earth, etc.) must have been some inspiration to the designers. I suppose I would rather play this game with a stylus, but I don't really want to play this game at all. Something about it's ubiquitous marketing blitzkrieg is unsavory to me. I'm tired of looking at it.
@V8_Ninja I don't think popularity and economics are what Suda51 is about. Video games are products, sure, but they're also art. Suda understands that what he does isn't going to sell like whatever FPS or football games are popular right now. If all he cared about were profits, he would be in the publisher, not a developer.
@Jamouse because it would add realism. Say there's a gravel patch, or an oil slick. You could respond naturally, just like driving a real vehicle. When I start to hydroplane on the highway, feeling the road is what keeps me from careening into other drivers. If I just had to rely on sight, probably wouldn't be around to write this.
This would be very cool indeed. Imagine being able to feel the road in Mario Kart, or nailing the perfect drive in golf. An arrow hitting its mark in Zelda, a purring kitten in Nintendogs, etc...
having no idea what this was about (and very little idea what a pokemon is) i was guessing the violation would have been sexual in nature. like, they won a tournament and had a bunch of strippers over. when will people dangerously obsessed with children's toys and tv shows ever grow up?
