Re: Soapbox: It's too Early to Judge Paper Mario: Color Splash

Madmanonfire

It's not too early to judge Color Splash. It's a low-effort sequel to the worst PM that caters to the casual drones that'll buy anything if it looks pretty. The trailer gave plenty of information.

Look up the trailer for TTYD. You'll see interesting environments, new species, partners, overworld gameplay, the battle system, and the promise of a fun adventure. Here? We saw toads, hammering things to paint them, SS combat, toads, Bowser baddie stealing paint, toads, and nothing creative or interesting. Color Splash deserves all the anger it gets.

The series would've been fine if it continued with the SPM style. That one retained most of what made the first 2 Paper Marios amazing. Instead, we're getting this nonsensical sequel.

As long as fanboys are foolishly defending this downgrade, PM will never be great again.

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U

Madmanonfire

I guess it's safe to say that the PM series has moved away completely from the RPG format. It's a shame, but there's not much we can hope for. The full trailer has given plenty of info for me to decide to skip this one.

Also, @TheRealThanos, it's clear from your first comment that you don't understand the reaction at all. People did not ask for a continuation of the lowest rated PM game with mechanics that don't make sense for a home console game (for example, the level selection map). You are the "bad guy" in the sense that you aren't arguing from the side of logic.

Re: Gone Home Console Versions Are "Not Actively in Development Any Longer"

Madmanonfire

This is excellent news! We shouldn't give people more opportunities to waste money on this sorry excuse of a "game".
While its gameplay is no better than The Stanley Parable, at least that game presented its narrative in an engaging manner and was actually entertaining.

I can't believe people are defending Gone Home here. Talk about nonsensical.

Re: Talking Point: Mii, Myself and I - The Arguments For and Against Miis in Super Smash Bros.

Madmanonfire

" For competitive players, it essentially voids Mii Fighter as a viable fighter as they won't be able to hone their skills with the character beyond the 'with friends' or offline modes. Why would they invest the time in designing and perfecting a custom moveset when they can't test it on the world's supply of Smash Bros. players?"

You're right! This has been a major problem for years! I mean, just look at Melee. That game had no online play and because of this, tournaments could never happen.... wait no, Melee is the go to Smash Bros game for competitive play. Maybe Brawl! It had poor online play and as such, people couldn't train for competitive play.... except they could, for all the tournaments that used Brawl.

This argument makes no sense. If a character can't be used for competitive play only because it can't be used online, how could ANY CHARACTER FROM PREVIOUS SMASH BROS. GAMES be used for competitive play?

Just thought I'd throw that in with the rest of the article's problems pointed out by absuplendous.

Re: Unepic Begins Its Quest in Europe on 23rd January

Madmanonfire

Great game, totally recommended.
Word of caution to anyone who reads petelectro's comment, this is NOT a metroidvania. Your character doesn't get any skills to get to previously unreachable areas and each "level" is fully explorable before moving on. This is a 2D action RPG with some platforming thrown in here and there.

Re: Soapbox: Why We Should Expect More From The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD

Madmanonfire

I'm going to have to disagree here because that's the logical thing to do at this point. It's an HD remake, yet the author wants a bunch of changes to make it less Wind Waker after assuming that the game will be full price. Nobody should take this article seriously until the price is announced.
Also, there are people, like myself, who never played much Wind Waker in the past or at all, so I want to experience the game for what it was, without all these unneeded additions. The game's sound still holds up and we don't need new dungeons.
It's not a new Zelda, it's a remake. Apparently the OP and a bunch of commentors don't understand what a remake is or should be.

Re: Review: Project X Zone (3DS)

Madmanonfire

Only problem with the review is the complaint about hearing the same three seconds of a song over and over again. That only happens when you rush through your turns, which is something you probably won't do because it's a strategy RPG. So that complaint isn't all that valid.
This game is easily a 9/10.

Re: Impressions: The Best Buy "Nintendo Experience"

Madmanonfire

I was lucky that my local Best Buy wasn't nearly as busy as this one. I arrived 15 minutes early on day one to find only four people signed up before me. It continued to be quiet for the first hour, so I was allowed to sign up for two time slots and tried out 3D World and Tropical Freeze. I was also the first one there to get a medallion, so I had a great time.

Re: First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World

Madmanonfire

To any doubters who actually read this far down the page...
After playing the first two demo levels at best buy, I can assure everyone that it is a high quality game, fun, and a proper 3D Mario title. (It's stupid to call this game not proper.)

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Wii U Lineup Makes Commercial Sense

Madmanonfire

Nintendo did great with their Nintendo direct. I know that every first party title shown will be high quality and I plan on picking almost all of them as close to release day as I can. There's nothing wrong with having a great number of surefire hardhitters and there are enough new experiences in each title to set them apart from past games.

Re: Review: Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)

Madmanonfire

Yeah, the familiarity complaint is silly. So much has changed with the sticker mechanic and the rpg elements changes, that the game feels fairly different from the first two Paper Marios. I'm enjoying the heck out of how much more "papery" the game is and trying to keep a good balance of stickers. I'd give this around an 8.5 at the very least.
If this game is familiar, then the reviewer probably finds Paper Mario 2 to be the exact same game as Paper Mario 1.

Re: Review: Code of Princess (3DS)

Madmanonfire

"Free Play and Bonus Quests allow you to choose between eight different characters"
This is incorrect. You can choose between all +50 characters you have unlocked so far as you would in versus mode.

Re: Code of Princess

Madmanonfire

I would've loved to get this day one if it was available day one. My local stores didn't get a shipment. Highlight of the day, ruined.
