@60frames-please It really doesn't matter about TVs being 8k, it's that the consoles aren't powerful enough to run games at 60fps at the visual fidelity that most developers aim for.
Also, you may not have noticed, but using frame smoothing can cause input lag. Just something to consider.
I also just want to say to the people worried that this is taking time away from the developers from working on a new Zelda game that's not necessarily true. People could already have started or going to start soon working on the next one, but not every developer will be needed to work on it this early in development. If anything, they would just be discussing what the next game's mechanics would even be. I'm not saying this is 100% the case, I'm just saying we shouldn't assume something we don't know as fact.
I think we should all wait and see what that second DLC pack is exactly before we start condemning Nintendo. I do agree though the first DLC Pack and what you get immediately for buying the pass really doesn't seem worth it.
@NintySnesMan Oh, okay lol I just wasn't sure. I thought he was doing a nice thing on explaining it. Didn't want him getting any ill will because of it.
Jeez, why is it much worse here than it was in the Project Cars 2 article? More apps definitely mean a better value. I think no one can deny that. Can they be added later? Sure. Will they? Who knows. Does it bother me? No, it does not, but I definitely understand why people are annoyed. I just really don't see how some people are really angry about this. I get that (as far as I know as well) you need a browser to log into certain Wi-Fi spots. That sucks and it's very confusing if Nintendo didn't think of that.
But if the device doesn't do what you want it to do, don't buy it. This anger and arguing back and forth between people is kind of pointless. I get people want Nintendo to do well and, to them, this hurts their chances, but let's be civil.
@Galactus_33 You can cancel the preorder, no? And third party doesn't necessarily mean they're going to get FFXV or Project Cars 2. It just means third parties are going to release SOME games on the system. I'm excited about the Switch, but I'm even skeptical of their "100 games from 70+ developers" claim. Exactly what games are they? We don't know.
@roboshort I do agree that the Switch definitely improves the gaming experience for that console by being a hybrid, but people's concerns about a lack of third party support because it's not as powerful as other consoles are still valid following Nintendo's home console track record. My hope is that the developers who made 3DS games for 3rd party publishers move on to make content for the Switch. If that happens I think Nintendo will be fine. Will it outsell the PS4 or Xbox One? I don't know, but it can't do worse than the Wii U. (It can, but let's not think about that)
@Ootfan98 That's interesting. I just tried to do some quick research and found nothing. If that is true, I wonder why they had analog triggers for the Gamecube controller.
@YeshaYahu5417 Definitely like the Gamecube controller more than the N64's. I can't really think of a good excuse to why analog triggers weren't on the Wii U gamepad.
@BigWhoady Of course, but I think that is what's leading to these comments that the Switch is the next Wii U. If it doesn't have games that people want on it, less likely they will buy the Switch. So, the less 3rd party games that can be bought on other consoles, the less enticing it is for people to pick the Switch over something like the PS4.
For example, I want to play FFXV, KH3, and Injustice 2, but I also love Zelda. It's tough to justify my purchase of the Switch for Zelda when the PS4 will have more games that I want to play on it. But, yeah, you're right. If you wanna play a certain series, you will buy the platform in which to play it. I'm just trying to explain (and understand) why this kind of news is a big deal to some.
Personally, I believe if Nintendo plays their cards right they can get an install base around the size of the 3DS currently, especially if it's the only place to play the new version of games like Pokemon, Monster Hunter, and Animal Crossing. I don't see that as a bad thing. I believe all three consoles can be successful in this industry.
@TruenoGT I think Sonic might give us a good idea. (If Sonic Mania or the new Sonic release simultaneously on all platforms. As far as I know that's not confirmed, but it's the only 3rd party I can think of that has a shot.)
@BigWhoady I think the whole problem is what if people don't have a PS4, PC, or Xbox One? Or they worry the Switch won't get 3rd party support and therefore people won't want the system because it will then have fewer games compared to PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
@kobashi100 Yeah, it's kind of a bummer if that's why some games might not make it over. I just don't get Nintendo's dislike of analog triggers. I haven't read anything about them SAYING they dislike them.
@Arehexes Yup, agree 100%. I have a PC myself and I love it. Not just for the power, but the customization of the platform and the freedom it lets you have. But yeah, people ask me a lot which console is the most powerful or say they only care about the graphics. Some friends I know said this to me and I heard this a lot from customers when I worked at a game store. I always tell them if you care so much about power, get a PC. It can't be beat.
@Tsusasi I was just thinking about that myself. If they could've made the Switch as powerful as the PS4 and just charge $400 I really think that would've been great. Yes, it would be more expensive than the PS4 and Xbox One, but the idea of taking games like RE 7, GTA 5, Injustice 2, etc. on the go could've tempted a lot of people. The question would be if they could make sure the system would stay cool from all that power lol
But I don't think it would've been a flawless idea. They still need to prove their online is on par with at least PSN among other things, but single player games would be an exciting prospect to pick up for the Switch just for the portability factor. I believe Nintendo just wanted to have a low price point to start and that influenced their decision on the tech. Nintendo has always said they like to be at a price range that's accessible to a lot of people.
Now, if people agree with them that $300 is accessible is another story and varies from person to person.
@Tsusasi 100%. I have no problem with the Switch because of the nature of the system, but you're right. Nintendo has always kind of annoyed me when they say systems and games shouldn't be about raw power, which they're right, but willingly limiting the hardware for their system (like Wii U), to me anyway, seemed like they were limiting their own developers by not giving them the most powerful tech they can work with.
@FragRed I understand and I think you're right. I hope games that aren't graphically intensive like Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite will come to the Switch. I would love to bring that on the go. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view), at the moment the AAA games that will be selling the system at least for this year will be Nintendo games and give them some credit, unlike the Wii U, there is actual support from them. I remember Sony getting a lot of flack the first year or so from fans complaining that there really was no first party support for the PS4. IMO Nintendo has it covered for this year.
@Anti-Matter I said that. I said if you don't care about this game that's fine, this news isn't bad news for you personally, but it's still disappointing news that a game won't be on the platform for people to even have the chance of playing.
@FragRed Agreed, but they help for people who do own the system. And E3 hasn't happened yet. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting For Honor, Injustice 2, and CoD to be announced for the system, but if the developers who worked on games for the 3DS also make games for the Switch, support will be there. Now, will they be AAA games? I don't know, but let's actually get passed E3 before we all shake our heads in disappointment.
I think people are jumping the gun on the doom and gloom predictions. It's not good to keep hearing that certain games aren't coming to the platform, but it doesn't mean it won't have third party support. Yes, not being able to play pretty much every game that's released might turn people away who can only afford (or want) one console, but that's just the consequence of Nintendo doing what they're doing. It can still reach a large audience.
Also, the people saying things like "I don't care." Good, news like this won't dampen your excitement for the Switch, but it still doesn't mean it's not overall disappointing news. Variety is a good thing.
@FX102A I had 3 pre-ordered at one point. Now I have two. My friend said he wants my second one, so I'm glad I was paranoid about one of my orders being cancelled lol Still a possibility with 3 weeks to go, but I like to think I'm in the clear.
@Romeo-75 I understand people wanting it cheaper because who doesn't? But I agree with you. For what it is and what kind of tech is packed in, I think $300 is fair. I think the problem is that people are viewing it as a console (it's underpowered compared to PS4 and Xbox One so why does it cost more?) or as a handle where people feel it's too expensive. I think the tech jammed in the thing maybe makes it's worth it. I say maybe because I don't know how much the parts cost, but if people don't anticipate themselves using it as a portable and a home console and only would use it as one or the other, I can see how the value of the system lessens for them.
@Urameshi Yeah, I think it won't be the Wii levels of success, but unlike the Wii U (IMO) the Switch is just a cool piece of tech and it does something that nothing else is really doing at the moment. @imacdvguy Fair enough. I barely use the Xbox App on my phone. (I send messages via PC if anything) The PS app is fine. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything. I don't really care either way. I just don't see why they can't create the app AND allow you to setup party, send messages, etc. as well on the console. If you in fact can't. Nintendo hasn't really clarified anything.
