so...we (3Ds owners) made this sub series a success but we (3DS owners) don't get the sequel...
although the audience is clearly on 3DS because...IT SOLD THE MOST THERE!
Betrayalton, royal Betrayalton Capcom.
Even games that ARE successful on Nintendo platforms don't get the sequel.
Will this situation ever change?
sold,
Sold on new 3DS LL( XL here?)
And sooo sold on Xenoblade remake. Yeah, it's just a remake, but there ain't many seireis i wholeheartly can support. This is my cance.
Sold, sold, sold
yeah, looks like a trend...Nintendo NOT forgetting about their (realtively) new RPG franchises... Nintendo really has to push their RPG games more. Many aren't awere that things like Golden Sun, Xenoblade or even Fire Emblem exist... I think thes games, if properly marketed, can change the image of Nintendo. They have some of the greatest games in almost any genre and still nobody knows about it! Heck, No Ko Kuni sold great on PS3. Ther IS a market. Please Nintendo, push your RPGs more. They deserve this.
this game or soon series need all love it gets. It is time people learn about that not Square Enix made the best JRPG last gen... No other thing makes me so sad as not even the JRPG community knows much about the greatness that Xenoblade is.
OH, btw. Xenoblade 3DS was announced for the NEW 3DS...
yeah, even Nintendo tries to forget the Gamepad. And that's okay. I Like Off-TV play, but this is no selling point. For me it looks like consumers want a good architecture and possibilities from their hardware, like Twitch integration and online possiblilities WITHOUT beeing forced to use them....hello Microsoft ( yeah, yeah, they turned 180 but seems like many didn't get the memo...) And Nintendo tried to get consumers with...the gamepad. This should have been the cherry on top but not the main attraction in their marketing. Games shuold have been. But to be fair, their weren't many at start. Another problem from the start.
still, it makes money. An tons of people play this smatphone thingies and Facebook clickeys. Gaming has reached the masses. Even ''core'' gaming.
But somehow Nintendo is loosing audience. Because in this state they are in now they only appeal to...well us. And that ain't many i believe.
Again, marketing, good agressive marketing can change that. It baffles me that a big, old company like Nintendo so easy could fall in popularity.
Even if gaming is a niche market what does this tell us about the state Nintendo is in atm? Still not good.
Edit: those damn reply rules..i have to leave space between the username and my response...
@ShadyKnights i still don't think Wii U can be a hit. 3rd parties has jumped the ship, that never happenend to the PS3 in this scale. They still had their Naughty Dog, Square ( while not exclusive PS3 still got the games) and whoever makes God of War and so on. We are in the third year (are we?), and if you look at the release schedule, not many things come out this year. And in this case quantity is necessary, in every retailer i go Wii U shelfspace is ridicously small. Noby who didn't already purchased the sytem would notice it. It is dwarfed ny Playstation and Xbox. The system doesn't exist for consumers. And without any marketing this won't change. Or do you believe Hyrule Warriors will change this? Only Smash has the potential to make some splash like MK8 this year.
well, i think it is clear now that even Nintendo realized that this gen is lost. However you define lost is up to you, but a smash hit or success the Wii U ain't. But it is a great opportunity to learn some hard lessons. And it looks like Nintendo is learning some. But this faith in the ''next big gimmick will bring costumers back in masses' is troublesome. Costumers don't want gimmicks. Thats why the PS4 ist doing super great. People who want gimmicks, well, they waste their time on smartphones. This market has moved on ( and will move whatever is the next cool thing they can download on Facebook or their newest phones). And many who want, well games that use physical buttons and play games because they want to play games are on PS4 or maybe XBONE.
But hey, maybe next gen Nintendo will get more games, right? Since the Wii i am waiting for this time, maybe i should really consider paying more money i can afford so i get a second console. And i really don't want that. I would love to spend my money primarely on Nintendo.
That are my two cents. Some great things, some bad things. Nintendo atm in a nutshell.
@DBailey like others said, no they won't. Hardly anything sells on Wii U. When was the last time we read about an 3rd party RETAIL game coming to Wii U? Sad, isn't it? Third parties can only support PS4 and XBONE and still make a killing. Nintendo worth a damn for them. And nobody exept, well us? does care. There are more ''other'' console gamers than Nintendo gamers now. Thinngs have changed. Really, that's the reality. Belive it or not, Nintendo slips into irrelevance.
ok, no Revelations 2 (it sure looks like this and this is Betrayalton at it's best) , no Advanced Warfare, no more AssCreed or anything else...it looks bleak. First party alone won't hold the Wii U this or the next year. Well, i got the system, but its gettign more and more unattractive for consumers. And remember, PS4 just hit 10 million sold to consumers. It is the king of the generation. And marketing. And shelfspace. And awareness. I think the game can't be changed by Nintendo. All ther is to do is learn the hard lessons (finally!) and prepare for the next gen. I wish tem good luck, they need it.
people, it is Nintendos job to create an audience for mature games on its console. Really, it is. That is why Sony and MS still creates FPS and TPS by first and second party studios. Without Halo for example there wouldn't be a willingsness for third parties to bring their franchises to this consoles. Because, well the audience for these type of games was there from the beginning. It's that simple. Emily Clarke (was that her name?) wrote an article about that toppic.
"I had been strongly encouraged to stay off of Twitter—or at least say only things that were clearly safe—so after the region-locking comment they just said I needed to stop completely," Adelman said. "When people started complaining that I wasn't active on Twitter anymore, it was suggested that a PR person could just post in my name. I thought that was about the worst idea I'd ever heard, so I left it as is and let the silence speak for itself."
i think we will see at least 3 platformers, announced or new ones. Games fans are hoping for? Maybe Zelda. Myamotos new project is some sort of simulation/strategy game, i think.
The Digital Évent will be like 39 minutes, far from being 1 hour long.
Yes, i am pessimistic.
@MrGawain you know, making a reffernce actually IS a compliment. Doesn't change the situation that not many NEW IPs from Nintendo are considered as important to make an easter egg as one of the old ones, like Zelda. Or to say it in another way: The developers grew up loving Nintendo but stepped away from them wehen the industry and the tastes of the conumers changed. It now is an industry that can compete with Hollywood when it comes to entertaining value. Sony and MS realised this. Nintendo just keeps making toys. I like toys, but i need other systems (PC) to satisfy my needs. So yeah, for me the Wii U also became a second console. And this will become the massage for the next few years i believe. Iwatas statement he wants to suprise consumers may lead to the next gimmick i believe. Not a rosy future for me. I want exiting games.
@swampertdude
they alreadfy do this. Isn't as often as a major game not coming to Wii U though.
And you know what? It is the right thing to do. Inform the people. The people that think about what console they should by. Making it possible for them to make their decission based upun facts, what games are coming and how the place of an console is in the gaming market is.
I can't find anything problematic about this. Even if it annoys the hardcore Nintendo fans. Who are easily identified when Nintendo is in a rough.
ok, i stand corrected. But the question is: it this art from him? Because i talked about not letting his art assets dicourage people. And he hasn't even submitted the paperwork to be a offical eshop developer. So this could lead to nothing.
srsly guys, just look at the logo with the default Photoshop lensflair and the shadows...do you really believe this is real? And when it is, i don't expect anything great this friday...they can't even create a good company logo...or even name...AE games... Whoa, this screams hoax.
really this family friendly market has disappeared. Do you know anybody who plays with his family or do you do it? I think the times are over. Nintendo may brought a whole new generation into gaming with the blue ocean strategy, but they went to the Playstation, XBOX or to smartphones. Nintendo should have focused at sometime during Wiis late life or during the first days of the Wii U on non-family-friendly games. Call them Harcore games, deep singleplayer expereinces or whatever you want. But that would have been the next logical step after bringing new audiences into video gaming.
oh man. Oh man. OH MAN. This isn't going to end well. It's like they realised they have nothing against Sony and Microsoft and desperately try to make the Wii FIt and Brain Age craze (that arleady died) to a new buisness pillar. Oh man.... Please Nintendo, at least TRY to compete with Sony and MS. They do it without you and people are eating it up. It is so depressing...they are really clueless...
o boy, these comments here. Who ever thinks Nintendo isn't to blame are set for an great uprise when the sale numbers for Wii U in the time of Christmas will be released. I have the feeling they will be pretty bad. I believe i bought a new Dreamcast. And all the people calling this a doom and gloom article...maybe it is the truth? Hard to imagine? Really? Next month PS4 will have (or already has) outsold the Wii U lifetime sales. It is that bad. December 28 they sold 4.2 million consoles TO COSTUMERS. In the meantime, the last sale numbers of the Wii U in Europe were negative. And since i live in Europe i see how bad the situation really is. Mayor retailers don't stoch Super Mario 3D Worls AT ALL. PS4 and XBONES? Plenty of games. Something has to happen, and Nintendo is the one to make changes. No one else.
@Shroom_Muncher two things: first, may don't have enough money to buy a second console. And second, Nintendo sold us on the premise that 3rd parties are coming. The developers reel at the E3 unveiling, the announcement of the partnership with EA...they screwsed at least me up. I believed them. But Nintedo beeing Nintendo they gave a damn about 3rd parties. In this time, Sony and MS gave their pitch to them and they realized that it made more sense so scratch almost all plans for the Wii U and bring all their big guns to PS4 and One. It was Nintendos job to not let that happen and they botchered it. That is all, no big 3rd pary conspiracy.
great to see that the mood of the community is changing. Really Nintendo, you just are giving us LESS than any other console maker. And now we realise it. I do, and i am (yet) a big fan of Nintendo.
Also, i don't have friends NEARBY that can play with me. If they are here we do other things than playing video games. I see them like three timms a year. Like many others online mode would give me the opportunity to actually play multiplayer.
Argh, Nintendo stop chjasing the family gamer crowd. That may have existed in the Wii days, but they are gone. They have smartphone now. They won't come back. But you know what: I think Nintendo knows they can't compete or deliver online experiences like SONY or MS. The Holiday fallout points in this direction.
i think this article is the beginning of a trend. Many readers just realise that something is fishy with Nintendo. Really, they aren't able to keep some of the biggest franchises that startet EXCLUSIVELY on Nintendo consoles ON Nintendo consoles. The things Pete Hines from Bethesda said are true: Microsoft and Sony talked from the beginning to 3rd parties and got them involved. Nintendo just announced a console and said ''Here , make some games for it''. And they don't. And really, why should they? They have TWO other console maker that really show that they care for 3rd parties. By getting them involved. As an example: you are at school and have to work on a school project with an other student. There are three other students; two of them say they want to plan the project WITH you and keep discussing what you could do TOGETHER.- The other one just tosses you his ideas. Which one would you chose?
Really, if i was 3rd party i also wouldn't work with Nintendo. You have better relations with Microsoft or Sony and get more money. What not to love?
one thing really stands out for me: Lords of Shadow was the most successful game in the franchise AND not appearing dominantely on Nintendos home console. That gave a clear massage to other developers/publishers:
Hey, wanting to make more cinematic games with great graphics? Something you couldn't do on Nintendo? Just abbandon Nintendo fully, you will even be more successful.
I think we have just experienced the beginning of this movement. Many franchises that startet on Nintendo won't come to the Wii U in the near future: Street Fighter and now even Castlevania.
it breaks my heart that the times of IGA Castlevanias are over. Mirrors of Fate played poorly( instantly dying because of failing an quick time event during a boss fight? One of the wort gameplay i have ever experienced). Somehow i am glad it bombed, because it was a bad game. But it looks like nobody else is releasing Metrovania games for Nintendo consoles. There are more of this kind on STEAM. Isn't this kind of strange?
yeah ,aeah funny lol. But really: six month from now reports will rise that show that indies are no more likely to support Nintendo as they are now because of this and surveys will show that from new customers Nintendo got this Christmas only a small percentage actually use the eshop. And you know why: It just didn't work without an explanation for them. They only got this lame ,,An error occured. Please try again later''-massage. And besides of Sony, Steam or whoever also had this difficulties the situation stay the same for...weeks? Really guys, long enough for many new customers to juset don't care anymore.
@ Infinete:
yes they should. This way we would get online modes in all 3rd party games. Because the publisher won't have to pay for the servers, Nintendo would. This is a big reason many 3rd. parties are abandonning the Wii U: horrible online infrastructure THEY have to pay for.
Nintendo just lost so many NEW customers for the eshop by this. People whose first impression / and second and third) is that the eshop just doesn't work withaout any explanation in the actual shop won't even bother trying it in the future. It is as simple as that. We informed people read this blogs and websites, normal people and kids don't and have no idea what is going on. For them the eshop will be non-existant from here on.
is it just me or does these artikles always start with some kind of explaination what the author generally thinks etc. and then just expands on that in the following text? Like some kind of excuse.

Re: Talking Point: Is The Castlevania Series Finished With Nintendo?
@EarthboundBenjy
thats why i said STARTED on Nintendo platforms.
Re: Talking Point: Is The Castlevania Series Finished With Nintendo?
i think this article is the beginning of a trend.
Re: Talking Point: Is The Castlevania Series Finished With Nintendo?
one thing really stands out for me: Lords of Shadow was the most successful game in the franchise AND not appearing dominantely on Nintendos home console.
Re: Talking Point: Is The Castlevania Series Finished With Nintendo?
it breaks my heart that the times of IGA Castlevanias are over.
Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2014
i dunno, but this list looks pretty sad to me...
Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2013
Castlevania..suuuure guys... this game will be fondly remenbered...not.
Re: Nintendo Network Services Now Starting to "Operate Normally"
yeah ,aeah funny lol.
Re: Nintendo Network Services Now Starting to "Operate Normally"
Nintendo just lost so many NEW customers for the eshop by this. People whose first impression / and second and third) is that the eshop just doesn't work withaout any explanation in the actual shop won't even bother trying it in the future. It is as simple as that.
We informed people read this blogs and websites, normal people and kids don't and have no idea what is going on. For them the eshop will be non-existant from here on.
Re: Nintendo Acknowledges Network Issues and Suggests Patience
thats the thing: Nintendos Online infrastructure is so unreliable that i fear the day i have to do a system transfer.
Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Appearance at VGX Underwhelmed, But the Show Itself Was Far Worse
is it just me or does these artikles always start with some kind of explaination what the author generally thinks etc. and then just expands on that in the following text? Like some kind of excuse.
