These are bad statistics. They leave a lot of information out, as well as ignore the fact that Nintendo produces far fewer physical copies leaving little choice in the matter anyway. The categories are broad and vague, you can't place such things into so few categories, but that's how pollsters work, and why they're wrong more often than not.
Various "why" questions are ignored, for me, I download small games if given a choice, and there are a lot of those, but for full dev games I will fight tooth and nail to get the physical copy. But because of the number of small piddly games, I wind up downloading more games. I really wish people would learn more about how statistics work and why they are not always the best method for explaining things, and why statistics are not based on facts either.
I'm surprised they haven't had more problems in the US yet, the patent laws here are just silly ... and insane. Anyone complaining about region locking, here's one of the reasons for it.
@LordGeovanni FFXII was not an MMORPG, it was an active time RPG with full character immersion, basically FFVI with more focus on the world exploration. Bravely Default is what Final Fantasy was suppose to be, a new game with each new version, not the same old. FFXII was the only FF that could be called "new" after FFVI.
DQ has had a ton of turmoil in the past, it started off with the name "Dragon Warrior" but some issues with that title forced them to change it, which lost a lot of fans of the original for a while before they even realized the series was just under a new name. However, after fixing that issue, Sqeenix just didn't seem to care about the series, which is sad. I like the series.
@zeldazero The developers of the games are who decide what system the game is developed for, even for exclusive titles. The most a hardware company, like Nintendo, can do is deny a developer's access to the SDK and APIs.
DQM games, formerly DWM, have been my favorite monster collecting games, ironically, but because of them lacking in popularity and any good releases, I became a Pokemon fan instead. Fun fact: DQM2 is technically DWM3.
The used game industry isn't dead, though people like Sony and Microsoft keep trying to kill it ... and now even Nintendo is hurting it. It sucks to see it fade now, there are a lot of games I would only buy used, because they are just not worth the new price.
This is 2014 ... we need world wide standards for such products, or at least regions need to get together and decide those standards then make it easy for all the devs to get the ratings. As I pointed out in another thread, this is why Nintendo has to have region locking, if we can't become one world, one species, then things like this will always be a huge problem.
Nice to see a Sony employee not arrogant enough to think they should control the gaming industry. Though I think his statements are a bit "doom and gloom" on the matter. Nintendo caters to the "family friendly" market, but it is not supported by it. Nintendo is supported by it's portable market, and has been for a while now.
The thing is, though, Nintendo is a roller-coaster, with a lot of ups and downs. This is the price to pay for trying to remain innovative. The dual screen family of portables is a hit, a huge one, that shows no signs of slumping. Wii U was a miss, meh, Sony and Microsoft have had a lot of those as well, but Nintendo is the only gaming company to take risks which give us gamers a lot of great new toys. Because of that last point, us fans will remain loyal to the end, if we ever see an end.
Nintendo tried a revolutionary idea for the home console, but alas it didn't catch on, not like their ideas for the portable console did. I say they just need to slow down on the Wii U, focus on what's a hit, until they come up with the next generation.
Nintendo has always been a company to depend on starting trends, adding a new idea or technology to their products to garner sales and popularity. It's one of the reasons I love their electronics, each gen has something different to try out. The drawback to this is that there will be some ideas that just don't work well, but meh.
The cool thing about this, if Nintendo doesn't mind them doing this, perhaps Nintendo will officially endorse the company in the future, and even make it easier to do.
It's so sad that so many people think dull and repetitive games are better for girls still. I keep hoping for a beautifully crafted, cute, and fun game, but now we have LEGO Friends .....
The delay in the bank has lead to me no longer finding interest in the game. Sadly, I lose interest in a specific generation within a few months of completing it, so this was inevitable. However, had the bank been released when it was originally announced it would have delayed my loss in interest.
I love the battle system for this game, from what I have played in the demo. It becomes more of a strategic system than most turn based RPGs, and I had grown bored of turn based systems.
@Ralizah .... I concur, with the exception of FFXII, the Final Fantasy franchise became too dry.
I love the game, and it's good to see Square-Enix finally returning to the more classic style adventures. Getting tired of finishing RPGs within a month of buying them.
This explains the lack of interest in the WiiU as well. Nintendo appears to be seeking that happy medium, where they can accommodate more devs while maintaining profits. The sad fact is that they have not quite found that medium.
The 3DS has found it's spot on the market, let's hope they find it for the WiiU soon as well. Develop the hardware more, make it more capable, and they should have the winning mix by the next generation Wii console.
Finally, the merging of technologies is becoming a real trend. With engines like this, as well as other software options, devs can develop a game once, then port to multiple systems with little to no work, allowing you to enjoy their games and apps on everything you own.
Actually, in spite of the review, this is a pretty good game. The fact that it's not grid-based like many strategy games is why it's a strategy game, actually. One aspect often missed in games like these are supply routes, access routes, etc. If you can cut off take a territory that has only one way for the opponent to attack, you can hold that territory for a long time and gain an advantage.
Many reviews on this site have swayed my purchases, I'm glad this time I ignored the review. I spend hours a day playing now, plotting out tactics that take the advantageous territories in a campaign. The AI is also no laughing matter, though sometimes it seems like it's just throwing troops at you there really is a thought process going on there.
What @allplatfrmgamer said. Stop putting Nintendo in the smallest corner of the store, we're the only ones still buying a lot of games now, give us more to buy and we'll buy them. Takes me a total of ten minutes to read the boxes of all the new games on the shelves, keep me in the store longer and I'm more likely to find something I want to spend more money on.
The neutering of one of the primary purposes for having a portable console is highly disappointing, the fact they are continuing to do so, all for a really stupid excuse, makes me actually wonder if they have lost their minds. A console needs no communication apps, it's wasted on them, they are at home with phones and computers anyway.
On a portable, sending messages between players makes sense, especially if the portable's primary selling point is over the internet play while sitting anywhere in the world, instead of being bound to your home. May as well ditch the 3DS and just go fishing, it's just as social now.
@D3athBr1ng3r187 Incorrect. Based on the sales figures, the 3DS games are better, because they are more popular, and thus sell more copies. So it is accurate to say that Nintendo, in general, has better titles. Pokemon X and Y alone could beat any game Sony has ever had, for any of their systems, in popularity. The Mario franchise is also rather big, and difficult to contend with, Mario Bros. is a household icon.
The only one that Sony has for the PS series that I can even recall having a following is now dying out, Final Fantasy is just dead now.
I don't even care about Flipnotes, but ... this is stupid, it's going to destroy their hold on the portable market. I may as well save up for a PSP Vita now, because if they continue this trend I suspect Nintendo will lose all consumer confidence.
@CaptainSquid "Offensive" pictures could be a drawing of a cheeseburger, or a photo nail polish on a popsicle stick, or a drawing of a barbarian wearing furs, or a photo of a sweet looking car, or a photo of pretty much any movie poster. Not to mention that the vast majority of sexually explicit photos of kids are taken by those kids themselves more often than not, there have been a ton such cases in the US where the kids are now registered sex offenders and many for something as innocuous as a nipple. It's a stupid reason, and a stupid method of giving the parents some phony "sense of control." Society needs to adapt, that's all, taking away things like this doesn't help society adapt to new things, it keeps us back in the Dark Ages.
Stupid reasoning to destroy a decent free app. If everything that was offensive was to be removed from society, we'd have nothing left, not even our own skin.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, could spoil this game for me. Of course I tend t ignore everything that is not stated by the dev team themselves because I write it all off as rumors by default until the release. Just having the battles in 3D is enough to make me love it.
@WinterWarm Welcome to the Pokefan club. Pokemon X and Y are sure to make you a new lifetime fan.
I have been with the series since it's inception, and am very excited to see them in 3D finally! Everything else could suck in the game and the 3D pokemon would still make it the most anticipated game of all time.
Hmpf, no review yet. I am thinking of buying this, but it's a draw between it and Etrian Odyssey Untold, the decision comes down to what kind of gameplay this one has.
I pre-ordered my copy. It is likely record pre-orders in the US, however, many stores here are trying to boost Sony and Xbox sales, having made the mistake of investing more in those systems and not realizing Nintendo could surpass them, so they are probably not even going to release the actual pre-order numbers just to try to keep things quiet. Pokemon is quite huge in the US, bigger than a lot of people are willing to admit, I run into people all the time while playing the latest Pokemon game who have the game as well.
@Kit you can pre-order download copies too, if you wanted, though at this time it's moot. Gamestop allows you to pay in small amounts on pre-orders, like a lay-away plan, if you want, in case you didn't know and have use of this information.
