Re: Review: Digger Dan & Kaboom (DSiWare)

@ImDiggerDan
Thank you, sir, for making a great game.

@DannyBoyTheDude
That comment means a lot more to me than you might realize. If my opening paragraph is a good indicator of what the review has in store, it means I'm doing my job well. Thanks

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword Getting "Finishing Touches"

Kid_A

Probably a September release. Ocarina will most likely launch before E3, and Nintendo will want to give it a few months to breath before releasing SS. Not to mention the fact that they'll probably want to right the wrongs of last year's E3 showing of the game with a glitch-free on-stage demo, and reveal a bit more of the story.

Perhaps this makes me lame, but I'm quite excited about the multi-tasking feature for taking game notes. I was bummed to find out that OoT 3D doesn't have the same note-taking ability as Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, but this is a nice remedy, and you can use it for every game. Nice

Re: Talking Point: Is the DS Dead at Retail?

Kid_A

How do you think the DS will be remembered in years to come? Will its catalogue of copycat kids games be at the forefront of your mind, or will you look back happily at the hours spent exploring exciting new worlds?

Obviously the latter. The NES isn't remembered for the insane amount of broken shovelware that somehow made it to store shelves: it's remembered fondly for its wide array of genre-defining classics and other quirky gems. The same goes for the PS2: tons of crap released for it, but gamers will always remember it for Shadow of the Colossus, Grand Theft Auto III/Vice City, God of War, ICO and Metal Gear Solid 2. Any top-selling console with a huge install base is going to get flooded with garbage, and when its successor arrives, it's inevitably going to run out of steam. That it's happening to the Nintendo DS is neither surprising nor newsworthy: it's all just part of the cycle.

The Nintendo DS has one of the most diverse and all-around impressive game libraries ever. In 10 years, I won't be thinking about all the copies of Petz: Gopherz that dominated the shelves: I'll be thinking about all the amazing titles that have been released in its incredible 6 year life span.

Re: Iwata: 3DS and NGP will Appeal to Different Target Audiences

Kid_A

Frankly I'm a bit surprised to hear Iwata say that the NGP and 3DS appeal to different audiences. Both seem catered towards both the core gamer and the more casual type (although Nintendo will always have an edge in the latter category).

The NGP looks awesome, but A) I know nothing of the lineup (other than Uncharted, which does look awesome) and B) I think it's safe to assume it'll be more expensive (because, well, it's Sony).

Re: Nintendo Reveals New Kirby Platformer for Wii in 2011

Kid_A

Oh man, it looks great! Epic Yarn, in my opinion, is one of the best platformers ever made, and when I saw this news post I was a little worried. It looks like this new one is going for a very different vibe, though: much more action-based, like Super Star. I hope it's a WiiWare download since there's so many other great retail games coming out this year that I'll probably be completely cashless, but I'm sure I'll find some way to play it

Re: Top Screen Backlight to Blame for 3DS Battery Life

Kid_A

Yeesh. I suppose it might save more battery with the 3D turned off as well. And wait a minute, can you charge the system with an outlet or do you have to use the cradle to charge; because if so, that would mean you couldn't play while it charges.

Re: Review: The Seller (DSiWare)

@WaltzElf
Whoa, whoa, whoa. I definitely didn't want it to sound like I gave the game a 2/10 because it's more complicated than UNO. As you said, that's not saying much. I simply used Uno as a comparison because it was a good point of reference. The game got a bad score because it's a bad game, and that's that. It does an abysmal job at telling the player how to actually play the game, and the game itself requires more random chance than strategy to win. Cap it off with no multiplayer, and you've got yourself a 2/10 game.

@Chicken Brutus
You're right! It actually is kind of funny in that, "Oh, hee-hee, those clever devils at CIRCLE entertainment tricked me out of $5!" kind of way.

Re: Review: The Seller (DSiWare)

@jdarrell
It's mostly like uno. The one thing that I didn't mention in the review (I thought the tone was probably negative enough as it was) was that in order to sell your resource card, you need to have a matching action card to pair it with. So you could be down to one resource, but if you don't have the right action card to sell it with, you might be waiting for 10+ minutes just to lie it down. But of course by that time, the computer has probably laid down a few magical "screw you" cards to bump your resources back up to 12. Silliness.

Like Froggievilleus said, this game didn't have to be bad. It could have been at least so-so if they would have done an adequate job of explaining the actual game to you, given you more access to helpful hints and reminders and added in some multiplayer. As it is, it's just sort of one big "wait, what just happened?!" mess of a game.

Re: The 3DS eShop and Browser Will Be Ready on Launch Day

Kid_A

The only thing about cash based systems, as I've found with PSN, is that there's an added tax to things you download. So there have been times when I've had enough money to download a game with my PSN card only to to find out that with added tax I'd be $0.45 short. Still better than points though

Re: First Impressions: 3DS Virtual Console

Kid_A

Yikes, this is a little troublesome. I can't imagine Nintendo not putting in the ability to change the aspect ratio in the final version of the service but until then I'm reconsidering my pre-order
