Re: New Elements Planned for Mario Kart on the 3DS

@warioswoods
I love the chaos of Mario Kart, but the Super Smash series has managed its chaos better, I think, because it gives the player options. If I want to play a game with all Bombs and Banana peels in Brawl, then I just turn off the items I don't want. I don't see why such an idea wouldn't work in Mario Kart. Then everyone could be happy.

@ZachKaplan
No, I think you're most likely correct. I also think that with the Wii's launch lineup being so weak this year, they just might go ahead and release their two other big RPG's out of sheer necessity. They've got to fill the year out with something.

Re: Nintendo Reinforcing Western Development for Wii's Successor

It's great to hear Iwata being so frank about the Wii's weaknesses, and their plans for the future. I think people think of Nintendo of being this ignorant, omnipresent company that's completely clueless about the current gaming landscape, but that's never been true. With the Wii, Nintendo jumped into territory that no other company had ever thought possible, let alone practical, and along the way they made some mistakes. Of course they made mistakes. And quite frankly, they earned them. With the Wii, they invented genres, captivated an incredibly vast audience and presented players with entirely new ways of experiencing games, and they did all this while keeping it affordable. I've always had a soft spot for the little white box and despite its shortcomings, it's still my favorite current-gen console.

Re: Miyamoto: A Link to the Past Could be Reworked for the 3DS

Kid_A

Good gracious, this would be wonderful. I agree with Aonuma that these remakes could be dangerous if taken too far, but some games, like Ocarina of Time or A Link to the Past just need to be experienced by every gamer. Just think of all the people out there who picked up a 3DS as their first gaming console, and how blown away they're going to be when they play Ocarina for the first time, or, hopefully someday, A Link to the Past. These remakes give Nintendo the opportunity to take their classics to an entirely new generation of gamers, and if the right kind of effort is put into them, I think that's really great.

Re: Iwata Expresses Regrets About the Way the Wii was Marketed

I'd love to see a return of the super-cheesy-yet-super-awesome commercials of the 80's and 90's, with overly enthusiastic wrestling match announcers doing the narration. "SUPER COOL GRAPHICS! AMAAAaaaaaAAAAAZING MOTION CONTROLS! YOUR! HEAD! WILL! EXPLOOOOOODE! Wii Music 2, coming soon."

Re: Iwata: Wii has More to Offer, Unannounced Games on the Way

Kid_A

Well we know we've got Kirby, Rhythm Heaven, Skyward Sword and Pandora's Tower; plus, The Last Story seems pretty likely for a US release. That's already a pretty great year that caters to both the casual and hardcore audiences. If Nintendo really does have some tricks up their sleeves, I think this is going to end up being a really good year for Wii owners

Re: Review: Play with Birds (WiiWare)

Sweet lord above--this game is SELLING?
Sigh...I had a feeling it might. The screenshots on the Shop Channel are pretty enticing; even I for a moment was mislead into thinking that this game might not be completely terrible.

I'll bet Planet Fish, a fresh and well-designed WiiWare game that I really enjoyed, sold like garbage. Typical.

Re: Review: Conduit 2 (Wii)

Kid_A

@Bulbasaurus Rex
There is a good reason for the game not scoring as well as the original. The Conduit was a mediocre shooter in most respects, but it got a decent amount of praise and buzz simply because it was the only worthwhile FPS game on the Wii at the time. In the years since, the competition has stepped up considerably, with excellent ports of the CoD games, the revolutionary Red Steel 2, and as Jon described it, the all-around good time Goldeneye. Conduit 2 actually had something to live up to this time, and it just couldn't handle it.

Also, just because most FPS games feature bad acting and and generic plots doesn't mean it's acceptable, or that it should be ignored. The reviewer wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't point out the game's flaws.

Re: Review: Conduit 2 (Wii)

Kid_A

Great review, Jon. Incredibly well-written
Goldeneye 007 is one of the freshest shooters I've played in recent years, so I was wondering how Conduit 2 would hold up in comparison.

Turns out, not well.

Re: Rumour: Could This Be the Next Nintendo Console?

Kid_A

I think some of the recent rumors have some merit, but I'm calling BS on these pics. I have trouble believing that the next console's controller will look nothing like the current Wii Remote; I just don't see Nintendo abandoning that design concept.

Re: Rumour: Wii 2 has Blu-ray Drive, Controller Contains a Screen

Kid_A

I believe that the controller has a touch screen. That sounds just Nintendo-y enough to be true. I'm not sure I buy that it will mirror the GameCube controller, as IGN reported, though. This system has to be backward compatible with Wii games, so I would guess that the new controller won't be too far off from the current design.
