I really like Sony from a games standpoint, I just wish they'd be a bit classier about stuff like this. How can we expect gamers to be more mature if the people who help create and promote the games say such blatantly childish things?
Retro can take the wheel of any Nintendo franchise as far as I care. Zelda, F-Zero, Star Fox. I trust them with it all. And after seeing Monster Games' great work on the Excite and PilotWings series, and Next Level Games' amazing Punch-Out!!, I'm feeling pretty good about Nintendo's partnerships right now.
I love WayForward, but I hope to god they don't use 3D models if they do in fact go ahead with this project. Somebody needs to step up and show people how amazing 2D Pixel-art games can look in stereoscopic 3D.
Can't believe it's been two years I really couldn't be happier to be a part of the team. And as Corbs mentioned, we really do have the best gaming community on the internet
Great review Corbs, as always. I was torn between this one and Street Fighter, because Miyamoto seemed really excited about Steel Diver and I tend to love his more under-appreciated projects (Wii Music, Luigi's Mansion) but since the big 3DS titles aren't coming out until June and July, I think I'll go with Street Fighter, which seems to have more than enough content to hold me off till then. Between that and my current obsession with PilotWings I think I'll be set
@Zach Gasp! This is just a gripping whodunnit of tagline-writing isn't it? Perhaps I just misunderstood James' recent email to me...apologies. See, you just should have stuck with my original one, no matter how obvious and underwhelming it may have been
@Metroid133 Glad to hear you're enjoying the game The great co-op is what really caused me to first fall in love with the series, and I know it is for a lot of people, so it was very disappointing in that regard.
That, combined with the load of glitches I and others have been experiencing really brought down the score but I really did have fun with it while it lasted
Sheesh, another bummer. There's definitely a case of launch-title-itis going on, it seems. Generally solid games let down by a lack of content appears to be the running theme.
Wow, very surprising list all around. I suspect that the Rayman sales have a lot to do with the fact that they rather sneakily names it Rayman 3D, when it's actually Rayman 2.
It's a 3D game? Yuck. If it was a 2D fighter I'd be all over it--those are three of the most visually striking cartoons in recent memory, and they'd look fantastic in stereoscopic 3D. Polygons can't do these cartoons justice. I'll pass.
Well Nintendo should certainly be little bit worried. The issue here is the casual gaming market, which Apple is absolutely dominating. To someone who's completely new to games, they don't see games in terms of size, content and quality--they see the pricetag and convenience. Why would a consumer shell out $50 for Boom Blox when they could get arguably the same experience via Angry Birds for $0.99? We gamers know that the experiences that the Wii, PS3, 360 and DS offer can be far more deep, nuanced and flat out fun than any iOS game, but that's a tough thing for new consumers to understand, especially when consoles are upwards of $250 and games are $60 a pop.
Current console games are better than current iOS games, but while it's easy to brush it all off and say, "well the 3DS (for example) and iPhone appeal to different markets," the truth is they really aren't. Yes, the 3DS will attract the gamers, but Apple is currently dominating the casual market that Nintendo helped tap into in the first place.
Nintendo isn't going out of business any time soon. But they've certainly got some competition on their hands.
Well done. I much prefer the arcade-style racer to the racing sim, so I'm sure I'd enjoy this, but seeing as how I could get a similar experience on my iTouch for less money, and have it include online and better graphics, I'll pass on this one.
It's not my cup of tea really. Same situation--fun for a bit, then I lost interest. But I appreciate what it's doing and I can see how some would find it really enjoyable.
Thanks for those battery life stats Corbs So since you had the 3D and brightness all the way up, and Wifi turned on, it's probably safe to say we'd get another 30-60 minutes of play with more conservative settings.
I'm wondering how well the battery life does with Streetpass turned on.
Haha wait, did Corbie write this whole article and then midway through refer to himself as "Our Downloads Editor Corbie Dillard," and then proceed to quote himself?
Because that deserves some kind of special recognition
Great article! I hope 3DS skeptics are able to find out about it, because it's a well thought out piece that puts things nicely into perspective (no pun intended)
I want a Mario Kart with the the blue shell. Would it really be that hard for them to make it so the player could turn off individual items, like in Brawl?
Hmm...now Chicken has got me wondering if this might be for me. I've been into this era of gaming lately, and seeing as it's one of the few N64 platformers I haven't played to death I'm thinking I might give it a shot.
Good review, though. I never got into the traditional Bomberman games so perhaps i'll give it a whirl one of these days.
I'm with Corbs. It's been far too long since we've had a proper Mario Golf entry, and the new 3D Super Mario game looks "Galaxy" enough for me already.
Thanks wario. I wasn't aware that the DS retail port was terrible, but I figured $5 beats $30 almost every day of the week since the games are virtually identical.
Oh this is wonderful. I loved their orchestration of Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess is another game that truly deserves the full orchestra treatment.
I'm thinking we're going to see a seamless mixture of 3D and 2D gameplay in these levels. Galaxy 2 did a lot of this, and I hope the team will expand upon that concept further. It also appears that we'll be back in the Mushroom Kingdom rather than space, but I'll bet the game will sport the same Level-Select Map that Galaxy 2 had, as opposed to a bloated hub world.

Re: Review: Play with Birds (WiiWare)
@ChickenBrutus
It was definitely a strongly worded review, but if you played the game I think you'll find that I really wasn't hyperbolizing
Not that I'm recommending you play the game...
Re: Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Launches on 19th June
Wooo! With this much content it will be a long time before I need another 3DS game
Re: Guides: Using QR Codes on Your Nintendo 3DS
I hadn't really figured out QR codes entirely when I tried to send my to Corbs so my Mii's not up here.
Rest assured that mine is the most tall dark and handsome of all of them

Re: Features: Nintendo 3DS Launch Game Buyer's Guide
Pilotwings is my favorite title so far as well. Easy to pick up, impossible to put down.
Re: Sony CEO Refers to Nintendo Handhelds as "Babysitting Tools"
I love to babysit my kids with GTA: Chinatown Wars, TWEWY and Street Fighter IV.

Re: Your First Look at Pandora's Tower is Below These Words
Looks cool! Obviously the visuals need some polish, but so far I'm very intrigued.
Re: After Nine Years, Retro Studios Thinks Like Nintendo
One of the best developers in the world. There's not a Nintendo franchise I wouldn't love to see them work on

The screenshots that are floating around are abysmal, so let's hope they've put a little more polish on this port of my favorite game

Curse your wonderful reviews, James. You're actually making me want to buy this one!

Re: Review: LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (3DS)
Just so James doesn't behead me, I'll just let you know that he came up with the tagline, so give him the credit
There is a review under that tagline though...

Re: Talking Point: The 3DS Friends List is Severely Lacking
It's ridiculous, frankly. It's like Nintendo can't add something without taking something away.
Re: Review: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D (3DS)
Dang. After dashing through the Metal Gear Solid series last month I'd really be up for another quality stealth game.
Let's hope MGS3D gets it right.

Ah, thanks for the edit, that makes it clearer.
That's not to say Heavy Rain didn't have an incredibly by-the-numbers soundtrack though. Galaxy 2 and Red Dead should have won, in my book.

Hmm. I'll wait for the review of PilotWings Resort before I make my final decision on which launch game to get, but this one seems pretty impressive.
My only question is, is there a way to turn the dynamic camera off and stick with the classic 2D view?

Re: Features: The History of BIT.TRIP, Part 2
Well I downloaded Bit.Trip BEAT for my iTouch.
HOLYWOWOMYGOD!
This game is incredible. I am an idiot for putting this off for so long. I will download RUNNER as soon as humanly possible.
Re: Features: The History of BIT.TRIP, Part 2
Once again, brilliant. I'm really enjoying these posts even though I have no knowledge of the games they describe. Can't wait for part
Re: Features: The History of BIT.TRIP, Part 1
Great piece Jon. I haven't even played the series, but you'd better believe I'm downloading all 6 if I ever get some cash on my hands
