Re: Interview: The Power Of Glove Filmmakers Adam Ward, Andrew Austin And Paula Kosowski

JebbyDeringer

That is great! I bought one when they were clearing them out for $20 from K-Mart, it seemed like such a bargain. Sure it didn't work great but it was still pretty amazing if you used your imagination =) The idea of it was ground breaking for a kid. Anyway that one ended up being thrown on the highway or something. Since then I've picked up two more which I'm happy to protect for future generations =)

Re: Capcom Employee Outlines Details on Mega Man Legends 3 Cancellation

JebbyDeringer

There was really so many reasons not to like Megaman Legends yet I loved it. The cheesy voice acting actually completely made it so incredibly good. It made the game feel like an interactive Anime. The controls were a bit clunky but were fine once you put some time into the game. Would like to see another one day and I'd actually like to replay the original sometime.

Re: Talking Point: The Download Games Battle is Just Beginning

JebbyDeringer

Steam is already the best download platform there is. Sure you can call it PC specific (it's on Mac as well) but much of it can be controlled with just a controller and most PC's have HDMI ports (ie simple hook up) now. The difference between PC and console has narrowed drastically. And the compatibility issues and constant upgrades are pretty much a thing of the past. Steam has games that go back decades, you don't lose your games when you get a new PC (this is HUGE), they have sales which means you can pick up games a year or two old for sometimes as little as $3 when they retailed new for $60. You can argue that you prefer console type games, even Nintendo specifically but when it comes to indie games they are typically multi-platform and so many of them are on Steam.

Re: Talking Point: F-Zero GX HD Could Boost the Franchise onto Wii U

JebbyDeringer

I didn't find GX that fun though, it was punishing. I'd much rather see a new game that an expensive re-make of a game I already own. Graphics were great in the game, framerate was great, control was mostly good. Like a lot of Nintendo franchises it started focusing on what wasn't important. F-Zero never needed 50 cars that were almost the same. The cheesy voices/SFX/Music were never a welcome addition for me after the first game. The difficulty was un-necessary. I like a challenge but I found it just as entertaining having a track you could complete without frustration and then constantly try to improve times. It's like Mario Kart & Zelda, both franchises seem to have forgotten what made the early games fun and they keep adding things that don't all while not evolving the core game play which they should be.

Re: Soapbox: Why We Should Expect More From The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD

JebbyDeringer

Thank you! I mostly agree with the exception that Skyward Sword had "ok" combat. The waggle was inaccurate and frustrating and I'd really love to see much much more in depth combat. In fact combat should be a much bigger focus of all Zelda games since you do so much of it. Also there is nothing wrong with MIDI, MIDI is a communication protocol. If they use high quality samples you get high quality sound. Yes an Orchestra is still better but it's less dynamic for a video game. It just seems that Nintendo has poor sound guys, on the N64 RARE always killed Nintendo in the sound deparment.

Re: Ouya Heralds Emulation By Tweeting Image of Super Mario Bros.

JebbyDeringer

Come on people. It's legal for Nintendo to milk you for the same game on multiple systems which is just EMULATION and could easily be ported between the systems. But playing it for free along with all the games Nintendo will NEVER be able to re-license and distribute again is illegal. I've got 3 Super Mario Bros NES cartridges at home I'll "pirate" it all day on my iPad. I hate rules, and I hate people telling me what I can and can't do. Ouya made a bit of a blunder I'll give you that but Nintendo re-selling old games over and over and over is all the more reason to "emulate". Besides Ouya is nothing new, you can pretty much emulate a NES on any device that has a CPU these days.

Re: First Impressions: Mario Kart 8

JebbyDeringer

Mario Kart Wii was a great game hampered by the stop & go driving experience and heavy weapon focus. Hopefully the focus is on driving this time around. Graphics look great and the controls are always good. Nice to see a Mario Kart that actually looks a bit different in the art department since the they've been pretty stagnant for a while.

Re: First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

JebbyDeringer

Looks great but it's a shame Nintendo won't acknowledge any of their games are imperfect and could benefit from some serious tweaking. In some ways this is the best Zelda game ever and in some ways it's the worst. Travelling by sea was almost simulation like since it took so long to get anywhere.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Wii U Lineup Makes Commercial Sense

JebbyDeringer

I think Nintendo is being fiscally smart. These games are all easy to make and will easily make money. In fact you could even say it's obvious where they are saving money. Sony & Microsoft are playing it safe with game franchises but they are still inherently risky since the development costs are sky high.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Aim to Produce Mature, Genre-Defining Storytelling Experiences

JebbyDeringer

@Waveboy I completely agree. Gears of War and a lot of other games like that are all "STEROID DRIVEN, BLOOD SOAKED, WASTES OF TIME". Well they aren't horrible games but the game play isn't great and they are masking it in a "adult" (Adult in video game terms actually means males who haven't gone through puberty quite yet) theme. I was harsh earlier about Nintendo catering to 4 year olds and honestly up until recently I didn't consider them "kiddy" like most but it really seems to be moving that way. I don't associate cartoony with kiddy though. I love Super Mario Galaxy other than the silly chatter between characters and the a little bit too easy to gain extra lives.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Aim to Produce Mature, Genre-Defining Storytelling Experiences

JebbyDeringer

The rise and fall of Nintendo parallels greatly with the rise and fall of Honda. Both companies came in with superior products and both companies have fallen recently due to their Japanese arrogance and failure to change. Their both trying to appeal to everyone yet in the process they are appealing to few. Both are becoming bland when they use to have drive and passion. They both have incredible attention to detail when it comes to engineering but fall flat in full execution due to some unknown internal reasons. Honda has tight handling, slick shifting, solid reliability and wrapped in a forgettable package. Nintendo has flawless controls, bug-free, great game design packaged for 4 year olds and wrapped often in non ground breaking art style.

Re: Peter Molyneux: If I were Nintendo, I'd Put Mario On The iPad

JebbyDeringer

There is no reason why Nintendo MUST be a hardware company. They don't make particularly great hardware. They certainly don't have many third parties interested in it.

Also you are blind if you can't see the iPad as a potentially perfect console. The ONLY thing missing from it is a physical controller and the amount of effort to make one work is virtually nil. In fact there are a number of games that support the iCade and with a jailbroken device wiimotes work flawlessly.

If anything Nintendo is too focused on their hardware and not enough on their "Mario". They are trying to make games that use functions of the hardware when they should just be making great games with more traditional controls. That's the beauty of the Pre-N64 games, no weird controller required, they are playable on virtually anything with buttons. The N64/Gamecube can be played just fine too but they were the beginning of Nintendo's "unique" non standard controller layouts.

Peter is right in that many people love Mario but not everyone loves to throw money into a system that does very little.

Re: CNN Money: Nintendo Is "Tone Deaf" To Industry Trends And Has "Lost Touch With Reality"

JebbyDeringer

It's not that the tech analysts have a thing for Apple and hate Nintendo, most of the industry speak is all to do with stock prices and the value to investors. It's not about anything else.

Nintendo is more than out of touch though, they are arrogant to the core. Much more so than Sony. Nintendo should be following trends and they should be partnering up. Their online model could have been contracted out to experts in that field, they should be hiring more developers if they can't release games fast enough. They should kill off some of the management bloat and focus more on making games. They said they were focusing more on "hardcore" gamers but that seemed to have backfired since they are really just offering less to their devoted fans and the "hardcore" are still ignoring them.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th April - Virtual Console (North America)

JebbyDeringer

$8 is a lot though. I can get year old games (good ones even) for $7.50 on Steam sales. It doesn't really matter that the game was $60 at one point. The original price point was meant to pay for the game and make profit which they have more than done during the SNES days. Now sure there is a cost for them to re-release but $8 is probably netting them some serious profit per sale. If you are a hardcore F-Zero fan or think you might be sure $8 is not a lot but there are many games I like so $8 x X number of games adds up.

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th April 2013 (North America)

JebbyDeringer

@FyreeTSG Better than nothing though I guess you are thinking of it as that they could be spending their time on more important things. Really though they probably have a big back log of approved games and their neogeo emulation is probably good enough that many of these games just work right away though I'm sure they must spend a bunch of time testing for bugs.
