Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Mario's Movie Voice?

JRokujuushi

@Nerdling "this is going to be the first time EVER hearing Mario in actual meaningful dialogue."

Not a 90s kid, huh? Between the Super Show (Lou Albano), SMB3 and World cartoons (Walker Boone), live action movie (Bob Hoskins), and Valiant comics book-on-tape (I don't know), Mario has had several voices that spoke full dialogue.

I guess there's Hotel Mario (Marc Graue) too, but with lines like "all toasters toast toast," I question how meaningful it is.

Re: Random: Forget Dread, It's All About Metroid: Other M On Twitter Right Now

Adam's portrayal in Other M ruined everything for me.

So the Galactic Federation has been working on genetically modifying metroids to remove their weakness to cold. Adam knows this. So what does he do when he sees a metroid hovering over Samus? Shoot her in the back, disabling her power armor and leaving her defenseless, then shoot the metroid with the very weakness they've been trying to remove.

What!? It was complete luck that the metroid froze. He even admits that he doesn't know why it froze when Samus asks him about it later. He DID NOT know it would freeze.

Not to mention restricting the use of defensive items. I understand the weapons and all that, what with rules of engagement, use of necessary force, all that stuff, but there's NO reason to not allow defensive equipment. You're not going to send soldiers into a firefight but only give them bulletproof vests AFTER they've been shot in the chest.

Really puts a damper on Samus' admiration for him, especially in Fusion. "Perfect military mind" my left foot.

Maybe they could've fixed some issues if they divorced the story from the gameplay and just made it a movie, but shooting Samus first... Seriously, shoot the dang metroid! If it freezes, Samus is safe and you can explain what's going on. If it doesn't freeze, she's immediately aware that they're an even bigger threat than before.

Re: Nintendo Plugs Zelda: Skyward Sword HD With New "Button-Only" Control Scheme

JRokujuushi

If I pick this one up, I'm not using motion controls. I always felt a disconnect with the controls when playing the Wii version, so rather than immersing me further into the game, there was an extra layer of separation.

Flying, swimming, and the beetle all used the tilt of the remote to control them, but there was a limit to how far you could tilt the remote before it stopped registering a change in value. With an analog stick, you can actually feel when you hit that limit.

The sword swinging was also a pain since I started out under the impression that Link was doing exactly what I was doing, but he's not. Once it detects you're swinging the remote fast enough, Link enters a swinging animation in the direction it detected. This often resulted in the game detecting my backswing as I was getting into position, and ignoring the swing in the direction I intended since Link was still in his animation. Took me way too long to realize I just needed to flick my wrist to get Link to swing in the direction I wanted.

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Skyward Sword Is Good, Actually

While The Legend of Padding: Skyward Shut Up Fi may have some of my favorite individual moments in the entire series, overall I pretty much hated the experience. The whole game felt kinda artificial, like someone kept going "It's too short, throw some more crap at the player" to make it longer without making it feel natural.

I'm debating trying it again on Switch. The Wii version had some weird control quirks that made me constantly aware of them once I realized they were there and really broke the immersion for me. (Why are swimming and flying mapped to the tilt of the remote when there's a limit to how far you can tilt before it stops registering a change, a limit that's already built into analog sticks?) Maybe a more standard control scheme would help in that regard, and maybe knowing in advance that the game's going to be like "you thought you were gonna get the thing but NO, do this other dumb thing first" a whole bunch will make it less frustrating to play through again.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Sequel Not In The Works, But Its Director Would "Love To Do More"

@Tipehtfomottob I was mainly just using that as a frame of reference since it's one I'm familiar with.

That said, while I acknowledge the SMB movie is far from great, I can't help but get some enjoyment from it when I watch it. I find their bizarro-world interpretation of the Mushroom Kingdom intriguing. So yeah, I guess I'm disappointed it never got the sequel it teased.
