Re: Talking Point: The Increasing Relevance of Kickstarter

Intrepid

@SCAR392 Very true. I'm also curious what happens when they accumulate a large surplus of money after everything else is paid for. Do they get to sit on it as free money? Seems wrong to me.

I found an interesting passage in the guidelines:

No bath, beauty, and cosmetic products; electronic surveillance equipment; eyewear (sunglasses, prescription glasses, and others); firearms, weapons, knives, weapon accessories, and replicas of weapons; medical, health, safety, and personal care products; or infomercial-type products.

Does this mean that the video game gun that was on Kickstarter (the one that NL covered) is not supposed to be there?

Re: Talking Point: The Increasing Relevance of Kickstarter

Intrepid

I already voiced my concern about the number of kickstarter articles, so I'm not going to say anything further about it.

One thing about Kickstarter that I felt suspicious about was that a company that already had the means to fund a project would make a Kickstarter anyway so that they can get people to pay almost/all of their costs for them. Not that this happens all of the time, but I suspect that this is taken advantage of somewhat.

Re: Four New Pokémon Make CoroCoro Appearance for Pokémon X & Y

These Pokemon actually look pretty good. Speaking of that, the boxart, especially for X version, looks amazing. I'm happy that we know the name of the region now as well.

As for the trainers, I'm interested in their bracelets. I know it's the typical Pokegear/Poketch, but I'm still curious.

I was going to post another long winded rebuttal toward gundam00, but I can see TBD deleated most of the messages, but that is probably for the best. I'm really getting tired of arguing with him anyway. I will just say @gundam00 that I hope you can get over your intolerance of people who have different opinions than you.

I knew the messages would be deleted, so I copied and pasted them into a word document for me to archive and preserve. I'm getting a kick out of reading these.

Re: Talking Point: DLC's Increasingly Important Role for Nintendo

Intrepid

As much as I dislike DLC, I think Nintendo did it right for Fire Emblem: Awakening. If DLC gets too out of hand, we can always refuse to buy it and express out complaints via Miiverse. Video game companies have been working hard to address the dissatisfication of their customers as of late, and I feel Nintendo would listen if people felt DLC was a problem. I trust Nintendo; they made the very classy decision of not including paid DLC for Animal Crossing, which could have been a huge source of income for them.

Re: Tomodachi Collection: New Life Features Same-Sex Marriage For Men, But Not Women

Intrepid

I don't believe that there is any malicious intent by not including gay marriage in a game. Perhaps it wasn't as important to the person, or maybe they don't have anything against gay people but just favor the traditional form of marriage. No one is forced to have to include gay marriage in a game if they don't want to, and they shouldn't be labled as discriminatory for that decision. And you can always vote with your wallet if you feel it should be included in every game.

Re: Tomodachi Collection: New Life Features Same-Sex Marriage For Men, But Not Women

Intrepid

@gundam00 Morphtorok is simply saying that just because a game has or does not have gay relationships/marriage should not be your sole factor for playing/ignoring the game. Also, just because gay marriage is not present in a game does not mean gays are being discriminated against. I don't know where you got that from. Fire Emblem: Awakening didn't have gay marriage, but that didn't stop people from buying it or from considering "supporting discrimination".

Re: Tomodachi Collection: New Life Features Same-Sex Marriage For Men, But Not Women

If it was unintended, it should be removed. If they meant to include it (I doubt it), they should go ahead with it. Plain and simple.

This reminds me of the original Spider Man game on the Gamecube. There was a scene at the end where Spider Man kisses Mary-Jane after saving her, but through the use of a cheat code (GIRLNEXTDOOR), you could play as Mary-Jane. Since this character modification is kept in cutscenes, it literally showed Mary-Jane kissing herself. From my understanding of how the story went, a kid's mom discovered this and complained, and the code to play as Mary-Jane was removed in subsequent copies of the game. I still have one of the original copies, and still find it an interesting trick.

Re: Orion's Odyssey: A Pattern Blocks Adventure Reboots Kickstarter Campaign

I agree with Aviator. It feels like half of the articles are on kickstarter campaigns, and it is actually making me less inclined to donate because I'm annoyed at the sheer amount of them. It's almost as if these are posted when there are slow news days and you need to fill space. No offense to Damo, but that is just how I personally see it. Also, that was a little extreme to respond that way towards Aviator for such a simple comment. Apparently, it's not the first time he said it, but I can see his point.

And now that I posted this, I'm going to recieve a tidal wave of hate, but whatever. It has been bothering me for a while and I had to say something.

Re: Miiverse Now Available In Your Browser

Intrepid

I don't really care for Miiverse. Either it is artwork, or people asking for likes, and almost nothing else. I find it hard to have an intelligent discussion with someone on Miiverse, not only because of the above, but the character limit is too low. I tried asking thoughtful questions, but I just get yeahs without anyone responding to it, and then it gets buried within minutes.

I'm thankful that Miiverse exists because of Earthbound, but other than that, I don't see any value in Miiverse at all.

@Vallu So true.

Re: EarthBound Delay May Not Have Been Caused By Music Licensing Issues After All

Intrepid

@Jukilum If you watch the video, they say "Shortly after the spring system update", which is wrong.

To elaborate a little more, I agree that "Shortly" is a relative word for time that could be used for many situations, but as soon as it is paired with an event that has a fixed time (spring system update), it acts on and modifies that event (shortly before, shortly after, event will happen shortly, etc.). It loses its ability in independantly express a length of time.

Re: EarthBound Delay May Not Have Been Caused By Music Licensing Issues After All

@Erica_Hartmann The article is saying that the Virtual Console will be set up next week, and that Earthbound will be on it soon. I understand the confusion however, as Nintendo Life actually said something similar:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/04/video_the_edited_highlights_of_this_weeks_nintendo_direct

In their "Edited Highlights of this Week's Nintendo Direct", NL said that Earthbound would be available shortly. When I asked why they thought it was so soon, as Iwata had only said before the end of the year, I did not recieve a response. I can only guess they didn't want to admit that they were only assuming the date, which a journalist, regardless of their field, shouldn't do. It spreads false rumours and false expectations amongst people.

Re: Believe, People - EarthBound Is Coming To The Virtual Console At Last

Intrepid

@AtomicToaster Makes sense; Miiverse is rather addicting, and I'm sure Nintendo feels it important to monitor it closely. I've avoided Miiverse due to Yeah spammers, but I may make an exception for when it comes time to campaign for other things on there.

Although, even if they didn't have the capacity to open and read them all, just looking at the vast amounts of letters and signatures should have overwhelmed them. I just find it kind of funny that Miiverse had to be the thing to push it over the edge, considering that we were essentially screaming into their ears with a megaphone years before.

Re: The Pokémon Company Describes 2013 as a "Key Year" for the Franchise

Intrepid

@HeatBombastic Don't lump me with people who beg for colosseum because of Chuggaaconroy. I liked it very much and beat both long before he decided to Let's Play it. Am I not allowed to ask for it just because Chuggaa happened to have played it at the same time?

1. They could still have shadow Pokemon, but with a completely different story. It could have more elements from the main series as well, such as Unova and Sinnoh pokemon, and be more interactive with the handheld games. Having a limited selection of pokemon helped me to make use of resource management and make do with what I had, making the game much more strategic, IMO.

2. Just because they make it for the WiiU does not make it a cash in. I don't know where you got that idea from. And how would it ruin Nintendo's reputation?

3. No one is crying about it. Do I look sad?

4. I don't see why the price should matter. Those who liked the previous two would buy this one as well. And Colossuem has a pretty long aftergame. It has plenty of content to make people happy. And whether the game had charm or not is your personal opinion. I happened to like it for what it was; not compare it to the handheld games.

You have the best respones I've read here. I agree that people need patience. A lot of younger/new Nintendo fans come from a world of instant gratification, and their minds cannot process/fathom the thought that they need to wait for things. For those of us who grew up with the Nintendo of old, patience (and tight lips) were the order of the day, but those new/younger fans are not used to it.

I am always aware, when I buy a new system, that there won't be any games for it for quite awhile. That is because I know that every Nintendo franchise I love eventually will get its game. I know my purchase is for the future, and the wait doesn't mean anything to me. I am the most patient person I know, and it confuses me that people returned their 3DSs months after launch becase there were no games. If they had even one brain cell, they would know that it goes without saying that they will be there before long. In fact, I still run into people that are holding out until the new zelda game is announced. Why hold out? Are you afraid it won't have a Zelda game at all?

So yeah, there seems to be a divide between understanding how Nintendo works as a company. It isn't about the system or games as much as it is that Nintendo works differently. Maybe we shouldn't try to tell people to be patient as much as we should get them to understand Nintendo.

Re: Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo

Intrepid

All I'm going to say to the person who wrote this letter is that, as any Nintendo fan will know, we experience periods of drought with every system, and it is something we are aware of and come to expect. Your system will be seeing plenty of use not to long from now, I assure you. You just need to be patient.

Also, you are not an early adopter by any means, Zelda has been way more interesting sice Ocarina of Time, and Metroid is far from dead. Save talk about dead franchises for F-Zero and Star Fox.

Re: Best Buy Employee On A Mission To Save R.O.B.

@Tasuki Usually, when you call someone a "Naive Child", it is meant as an insult. I don't know if it holds different meaning to you, but it is commonly accepted to be an insult.

I will agree that some lawyer is probably already on this; those people are like sharks hunting for their next meal.

Zombie_Barioth has pointed out the reason why nobady cares: It is junk to them. As long as it is out of their hands they are happy. I really don't think people hold recycling centers in such high esteem in the first place, and I don't think people feel betrayed because they don't bother to care about the wherabouts of their item anyway. They have a "I did my part, its out of my hands" personality anyway.

Let me ask you: If you worked at a company that recycles old paper, and you saw some money that was mixed in, and it happened to be a lot (at least $100), would you salvage it? Or an expensive ring at a scrapyard? If it wasn't recycled, that company would mis-represent itself, but at the same time, no one in their right mind would let it be recycled. That's just common sense.

I honestly don't think Best Buy was being deceitful here. They would have proceeded to destroy that R.O.B on schedule had the employee not complained, and then they decided to preserve it, partly because of its value, and partly out of respect for the employee that was so passionate about it. If Best Buy was to be untrustworthy, they would have sold it to line their pockets, and then covered it up, not put it on display for everyone to see.

You obviously have a strong sense of moral justice and hold people accountible for their actions, and that is to be respected. Truthfully, I feel the same way most of the time as well, but I was told once that it depends on the situation. I scoffed that people feel there are exceptions to the rule, but now I see that this is a perfect example of that. This ariticle is essentially a story of morality vs. doing what one feels is right, and that can be very decisive.

This is Best Buy's problem now, and they will have to deal with the consequences of the decision they made. It will be interesting to see what happens, but I don't see any reason to discuss this any longer. We have differing opinions, but we need to accept that and move on.

Re: Best Buy Employee On A Mission To Save R.O.B.

Intrepid

@Tasuki For all you know, they were watching TV on your 50" plasma long before this happened. If you are that concerned about it, do some research on a recycling center you believe is legitimate and use them instead of Best Buy for now on.

As for my predicting that nothing will come of this, it is just that: a guess. I honestly do feel that either no one will have heard about it or no one will care.

It's fine if you don't agree with me, but you don't need to insult me by calling me a child. I would think that those that resort to name-calling are more childish.
