@NintyNate both Metroid and Bayonetta struggle to sell 2 mio copies of one of their outings. They're not the big franchises people make them out to be. Pokémon and Smash on the other hand are huge. Pokémon sold over 10 million copies time and again, a lot of them even close to 15 million, and Smash sold over 10 million as well with its last outing on 3DS/Wii U.
@Joe-b I think the Switch will settle somewhere between the 3DS and the GBA saleswise. It's a hot item now but I think the next generation of consoles will give it a tough time.
@erv It's awesome if you did! I wanted the movie to be so much more. It could have been the next big fantasy thing after Lord of the Rings, but they dropped the ball on that one. I don't think we'll get a sequel for it. And I still don't get why anyone would ever sculpt a golem with abs.
With the involvement of Paul W. S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich we all know what this movie will be like. That's at least something. Of you like it or not is another thing.
Maybe they landed somewhere else but it looks like the Mii fighters is out of the picture. Literally. Other than that, I think it would be a weird coincidence if Banjo and Geno are included. 2 of the most speculated characters since this games reveal.
Isaac makes no sense to me. The Golden Sun franchise might have a dedicated fan base, but it's a very small one. The games are pretty much irrelevant at this point and they never reached such a classic status that other dormant (and included) franchises did.
Too bad the game didn't perform better. The game is fun to play and tinker around with. Especially when you play it with the physical ships and weapons. But there are actually 2 interesting bits of information to take away here: 1. The huge chunk of Switch sales of course 2. Xbox sales not being too far behind Playstation sales. That is the biggest surprise in this news story for me.
@jmap if you buy the physical add ons, you're also able to use them digitally! I already tried it and used my Pro Controller when the battery of one of my Joy Con was depleted. And I also played in handheld. Both times all items I purchased were available digitally after I used them once.
It's not the price that's the problem here. It's the subpar service. I won't spend that much time with retro games, really. My backlog is big enough as it is. And it's not like having NES games on Switch will be that much of a draw anyway. Not supporting every game with cloud saves is just not customer friendly. There's no way around it and it's inexcusable. They had more than enough time to figure it out. They even postponed the service to get it to THIS point. How bad was it initially? The smartphone app is something nobody cares about. Why is making you use another device to use your "service" properly even called a service? It's a major inconvenience. I don't need my phone to use voice chat on my PC or PS4. And I'm pretty confident in saying that I wouldn't need it if I had an Xbox One. So, why does Nintendo do it? There is absolutely no upside to this app. They don't even bother to give us an example of those "special" offers! How about starting with something big right out of the gate? That way some people hesitant to jump in might give it a try. But so far, "special offers" shouldn't even be mentioned as a feature, since there aren't any. Overall it's not about the pricing of a service that is really NOT good. It's about the service not being good. They had the examples to nail this service right in front of their noses. And they decided not to take notice. There is a chance that all these mistakes will be corrected in the future. Thing is, these are all mistakes that shouldn't have been made in the first place.
@Nico07 actually it IS illegal to modify your console depending on where you live. In the US it is prohibited by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. That basically says you're not allowed to do it because it gives you the possibility to use illegally obtained software.
In Europe it's not illegal. Except for when the purpose is to use illegally copied or obtained games. And ROMs usually are obtained through the internet which violates the copyright. You can create a copy for yourself, yes. But it can only be a security copy if your original is broken. That means you can't even create a copy to use it on your or another device or for a family member to use on a (possibly) illegally modified console.
@ThanosReXXX actually you're taking my statement also out of context. I said that you don't modify it so it swims like a boat. But whatever, suits your argument better that way right?
If you choose to ignore enduser license agreements. In this case Nintendos, fine. Still would make you veeery vulnerable if they chose to sue you.
@impurekind Gotta be a tough live without your "right to play videogames". Again: If you don't agree complain about it. Fine. But it doesn't make it right to break the law. No matter if it's a beneficial law or not.
@impurekind oh and your cow example doesn't fit. But let me fix that for you:
I go and want to buy a cow with my, as you like to call it, "hard earned cash". The person who sells it to me shows me available cows and I say, "I want it for drinking milk." He says "This one's specifically bred to give milk. But it's not for meat." Then I know what I can do with it and what not. And if I buy it, I agree to those terms. If I don't agree, I can't have it. Then I have to get another cow for meat. If there's no cow for meat, I'm out of luck. Guess I have to eat something else.
@FinalFrog there's a difference to adding stuff to your car. It's not changing the the designed purpose. Im not saying that I agree with everything in those agreements but like you said, it's law.
@impurekind and no, I'm not a "corporate stooge or something". But I'm also not a hypocritical millennial that acts like a martyr because I want to stick it to "the man".
I'm a fan of Nintendo. And being a fan means supporting them, not stealing from them. Do I agree with every decision they make? No. Do I turn to illegal means to still get what I want? No. A game is not available on the virtual console? I won't play it then. I don't want to buy a game multiple times? Sucks, but I won't play it then. You are the real problem here. Thinking that you're entitled to getting everything you demand. You're not.
@impurekind you know, do whatever illegal poo you want to do. But don't start complaining when you're being called out for it. If you created video games and did that for a living, you'd be the first to call foul when someone puts it online for free. Same goes for modifications to the designed purpose of the Mini SNES or whatever console. Just because you don't agree with the terms that come with buying that thing, doesn't make it right to ignore them.
@edimusrex I'm pretty sure ROMs are never "in the clear". There's still something called an enduser license agreement. And that will most definitely include that you are not allowed to alter the system beyond its designed purpose that it's shipped with. The only way I can see ROMs being in a Grey area, which actually means it's not in the clear, is for PRIVATE USE ONLY. Like you mentioned making a Rom yourself for yourself and yourself only. But that means you'd have to hack the device it's stored on and that probably also violates the enduser license agreement.
@Ayurvedism I'm not crying about what you're doing. I'm just pointing out that you are a criminal. And if that bothers you stop doing it or stop crying that you're being called out.
@kuromantic Roms are not a "legal Grey area". It's simply piracy, theft of intellectual property. And if you're taking my argument with the car out of context, sure it's a bad example. But you're ignoring the others. And you're ignoring my underlying message: You don't change other appliances to fit other purposes. So why is it magically okay to do so with consoles?
@impurekind and you think you need that kind of stuff to be happy? Now that's the real tragic thing here. Use it in the way it's design for. Then there's no problem. I don't understand why you're so upset about it. You don't tinker around with your washing machine, do you? But it doesn't do the dishes! And you still don't complain about that. You don't tinker around on your car so it swing in the water, right? And still it's no problem at all. Because you're happily use it in the way it's designed for. So why all the fuss when it comes to a video game console that is designed for one specific purpose?
@impurekind yup. Because you think you have "a right" to have those things. Guess what? You don't. It's Nintendos property and they can do with it however they see fit. If you don't agree, don't buy it. Easy. And if you want to play without buying, you're a criminal.
@impurekind because you always accept an enduser license agreement. Which always includes NOT TO tinker around with the product. You can complain about it as much as you want, that's what you agree to willingly when you buy it.
I'm kinda wondering why you report on this at all if you don't advocate it. (which you shouldn't.) nothing about it is interesting. It's illegal. If they wanted you to play a ton of old games NOW, they would have released the Virtual Console.
@PlywoodStick I never said kids should share nothing. But I think gaming consoles aren't something that sould be shared. I shared a Super Nintendo and a PlayStation with my 2 siblings and we constantly fought about who was up next. That never tought us the importance of sharing. Later on my sister wasn't interested in gaming, my brother hat his own PC and I had a N64 and a PS2 later on that my sister bought me. And we never fought about it. He wanted to play with the N64 or PS2? He had to ask me. I wanted to play games on his PC? Didn't even think about it without asking. A gaming system is valueable. That teaches that you can't be careless with things. And I learned to share that way. I learned to trust that it was okay if I shared when I wanted to share. I learned about generosety when my sister bought me a PS2 just because she wanted to. And nowadays I lend my PS4 to a friend occasionally when he wants to play games like Bloodborne. It's not like I'm totally selfish and don't want to share anything. I just think "being forced" to share a gaming consoles is the best way to learn the importance of sharing.
@PlywoodStick I didn't say that's not important. But a console has nothing to do with needs. It's for entertainment and that's nothing you need. It's important to share but it's also important to have things to yourself. Especially when you're growing up with older siblings. Because you also have to to learn to respect other people's properties.
@riChchestM sure, but there's a difference between sharing what's yours and sharing possessions. Because, if you have siblings things like that are never really your own.
@amyr0se The other is also illegal and nobody who calls themselves a fan should resort to such things. Buy them on the Virtual Console. If they're not available, then you don't get to play them.

I'm pretty happy with the Switch. The line up so far is pretty strong and there's quite a lot in the pipeline for now. If the 3rd parties leave, another WiiU situation happens. And I don't think that that would be good for them as a company at all.
