Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Special Edition Pre-Orders Delayed Until After Launch (UK + EU)

Grawbad

In the US it always said that the Game was going to ship physically first and the CE box would ship later. Which I am surprised I never saw anybody up in arms about that. This means the CE doesn't have a game in it in sealed fashion.

"The physical edition of the game is scheduled to ship by July 29, 2022. The remaining Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition contents will ship in fall 2022."

Re: Target Announces Pre-Orders For Extremely Cute Pokémon Advent Calendar

Grawbad

"There doesn't seem to be a release date, but we would guess November/December. Unless Target really likes pre-prepping for Christmas."

In America every year Christmas season gets earlier and earlier. Used to be around Thanksgiving you would start hearing Christmas Music in stores.
I have literally walked into a store and heard Christmas music only a couple years ago on Holloween no less.
They start "Decking the shelves" asap these days.

Re: Best Switch Games For Short Play Sessions

Grawbad

I would add Celeste to this list. Not only is it a great game, it is also one of those I can pull out the switch while waiting for something and get a few attempts of a screen or get past one or two.

Re: Backlog Club: July - If You Haven't Played Hollow Knight Yet, Here's Your Chance

Grawbad

@solidox Yep, I know it isn't free, I was simply saying that if they have game pass they wouldn't need to pay 14.99 as it is already included in the service and if a game is ever leaving game pass they get a discount on all Gamepass games and dlc. So the 14.99 is only for those without Gamepass. All I was saying. This is without mentioning the game is 14.99 elsewhere too, its just on sale for 7.49 right now.

Re: Developers Don't Take Kindly To EA's Single-Player Gag On Twitter

Grawbad

So, I legit think the person whom authored the Tweet 100% meant that they like playing single player so you can't have none of that kind of thing.
However, I love how it blew up though. Because on the face it it sure sounds like they are downing Single Player games, but if you actually look at it and think about it they are saying, they are a 10 but they don't do multiplayer so no luck for you.

In any event, another fun internet thing to laugh at. lol

Re: Random: Retro Studios Clashed With Metroid Producer On Halo Influences

Grawbad

I think they do it this way, not because they don't want the games to turn out like Western games, I think its more about keeping a team thinking about the game they are making as exactly that, the game they are making. If you are constantly thinking, okay, I am making Dark Souls meets Metroidvania you will putting constraints on the ideas you have for the game.

I think it is a good mindset to have.

Sure, you may have thought of a game that melds a few genre's or types of games together but you shouldn't carry the philosophy of the game based on that. The game should be able to breathe with your creativity along the way.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Grawbad

@BenAV I get what you are saying, but there are probably instances out there for you where you might like a game that gets panned.

For me one such game was Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom.
People that liked Kingdom Under Fire hated it because it was a different kind of game than the other's in the series. To me it was like a 3d, 3rd person diablo style game and I absolutely loved it back then.
Don't know if it aged well for me or not.
This game got a 55 metacritic.
If I had just relied on that, I would never have played it. And I honestly loved it. Put many hours into it.

I am not saying you should go out and buy it or just start buying all games with low scores. Just that, if you have a genre you really love, maybe cut that genre a little more slack and do just a bit more looking into the game before you decide just based on score.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Grawbad

I love that Polygon dropped scores. I can read the review and know if it is going to be for me. There are plenty of games that get 9's and such that I don't like. There are games that get 5's that I love. A simple written or video review gives me the real info I need to inform my purchase decision.

Re: Deals: Amazon Prime Day Is About To Kick Off In The US, More Nintendo Switch Bargains On The Way?

Grawbad

They have a retail price system that comes with a 64GB microsd and a 20 dollar eshop card. I mean, nothing to write home about but surely if you need a system then you should buy it from Amazon at the moment.

EDIT: I should mention I am from the US.

And oh boy, the microsd cards are on sale. They have the 400 gb sandisk for only 139.99. It is normally 190. I know, because I have been considering getting one for over 2 weeks now. 50 bucks off is worth it in my opinion. https://goo.gl/CukGPn

Found a 3DS for the price of a 2DS. 149 for the Super NES paint scheme no less. https://goo.gl/MeogxJ
Apparently you can select a version with the power adapter for the same price. So make sure to do that if you are nabbing it. (Interesting to note that when you do select "with adapter" the stipulation that you have prime goes away and it can be purchased by anyone. This is the Amazon Basics charger.)

Re: Japan Will Get Physical Boxes Of Smash Bros. Ultimate And Pokémon Let's Go With Digital Codes Inside

Grawbad

@Cobalt I totally get where you are coming from, there was a time when people said they would never buy games on steam. They were ticked it was going to even be a thing.
You don't own anything when you buy it digitally.
Yet here we are, years later and you still don't but steam is a norm.
And even then, I may not own those games, but I still have and can play all of them. So there is that.

Streaming games is the future regardless if we want it or not. I am hoping that in that future I can still buy a physical product and get access to that game.
People see streaming as a service like PSNow and such, but in the future I don't think it will be like this.
I think your xbox live sub, or your playstation plus sub and the like will cover streaming. You buy a game digitally you have access to that game digitally via download or if you like you can just stream it.

I think that is what the next console generation will look like, a sort of hybrid of the past and the future.
I think Microsoft and probably Sony as well are going to announce very traditional Consoles, full of power and a slot for physical disk games, but I think they will also announce next to these a cheaper device, not unlike a Switch but something that doesn't need to be powerful. Something that can just accept streaming.

If they do, what will happen is, even those that say, they want the console at home will get that experience, but then a bit down the line they will go, hm, for 150 bucks, I can play my entire library on the go, I think I will grab that little screen. (Or more likely, just say, hm, I can connect my xbox/ps controller to my phone and play these games anywhere, then find out how cool that is and want to buy the awesome bigger screen that the companies sell.)

I would bet money with a device like that some people would just buy the cheaper streaming device and never buy the more expensive console.

THey have been trying to figure out hardware for a future where streaming was a thing for a while. Playstation move. Kinect. All these things were these companies trying to innovate yes, but they were also trying to figure out how to sell hardware to people in a time when games can be streamed to ANY screen.
And be of higher fidelity than we have ever known. Because when developers can take advantage of a server system and know exactly what they can milk out of it and knowing that the server can be super powerful, more so than what can be put in a home console because it would be to expensive.
Think of the games that could produce.
Games with full planets to explore. FULL planets. In fidelity unheard of.
And all you need is a screen and a device to control.

It is coming. I will miss these good old days to.
I think the pros do outweigh the cons though.
Super powered games. Streamed anywhere, to any screen I desire.

EDIT: And it would alleviate one of my gripes with the Switch. It's power. I hear that in Japan Resident Evil 7 is being played on the switch via streaming. Without streaming you would not be able to play that on the switch in it's normal fidelity. You would get things like the Doom port or Wolfenstein. Which are great ports, but imagine if devs didn't have to port games to the Switch. They could just give you access to games via streaming.
Boom, the Switch becomes the only system you need and every game would come to it as it came to other consoles, day and date.

Anyways, in a future like that, I would certainly love the option to buy a physical item. Like Nintendo could make Amiibo the item. New mario comes out, buy this new Mario amiibo, it includes your code to unlock the new mario game on your account. I still get to collect the games I want, and have the convience of not having to swap media every time I want to play something else and don't have to carry those games with me. And would allow me to play even full console experiences on the go with not compromises.

Sorry so long winded. I am tired. lol

Re: Japan Will Get Physical Boxes Of Smash Bros. Ultimate And Pokémon Let's Go With Digital Codes Inside

Grawbad

I have been saying for a while that in this transition we are making to Digital I want them to still go physical with some item that you can go buy to add to your collection and get a code that gives you the game digitally.

Now I have been thinking, a small statue like amiibo type thing or other small things to display.

I must admit, selling a case with a code is the simplest form of this and I never thought of that at all. lol

Re: Nintendo Talks Maintaining Momentum And More Announcements Coming This Year

Grawbad

@Mr_Pepperami I feel like there is a possibility we have some things coming around the time the online service hits that would directly benefit from a cohesive online environment.

Not that it is going to happen but if they wanted to release GTA on the Switch it would benefit greatly from a cohesive online service. In light of something like that coming out, it might be better to wait until it is closer to announce it considering you never know if you will have to push back the online service.
Plus, at E3 they showed off both Smash and Pokemon, I mean, how much more heavy hitting do you get whether or not those games are your cup of tea. They probably figured they had enough with those two and they could dole out the excitement over time.

Who knows? We will see soon enough.

Re: Review: Fortnite (Switch eShop)

Grawbad

@Silly_G This game was originally NOT a battle royale game. It was a paid game that had nothing to do with Battle Royale. It still has this original mode on other platforms and that has to be purchased. Battle Royale has been free from the start on all platforms. It is the only portion of this game that made its way to the Switch.

Re: Satoru Iwata Defends Timing of DeNA Deal, Teases Smart Device and Console Links in Club Nintendo Replacement

Grawbad

Cloud. I have been saying it for a while. I really think they are embracing streaming the games. Which by the way means they can get people trying their games regardless of their device as its being streamed to them. Having an account system would be very important with this. They can develop for their consoles, and still allow people to try them.
They could release a controller that can bluetooth to any device and in the future with the NX they can make the gamepad unit function as a take anywhere, use anywhere with wifi type of thing.

Also if the games run off the cloud, 3rd party support could be total. The server would dictate. Any PC game could be streamed to the console really.

The cloud is the future. Whomever embraces it properly is going to have a real leg up. I seriously have my fingers crossed that this is what they are doing.

"Something you have done on one device can be utilized on another"

Almost could have just said, we are gonna stream games no?

Re: Nintendo Working On New 'Dedicated Game Platform' Codenamed 'NX'

Grawbad

@Grumblevolcano How is it to early. They basically announced an account system. (Thank GOD BTW) and said it would encompass the Wii U, 3DS and their next system. The next system is code named NX. Which they said won't even have any more details until next year. Which likely means 2017 release. Which is 5 years, which is just about where its always been with Nintendo.
