This practise is just odd. Why would a company go to expense and bother of localization across several countries/languages/censorship bodies in Europe, and neglect the relatively simple localization in the US/Canada? I doubt anyone outside of Japan is going to see this. Luckily I still have a 'virgin' copy (not sure if that's appropriate word in the context!) of 'Fatal Frame: Crimson Butterfly' sitting beside my PS2.
The seemingly commonsensical notion "that everyone has their own view of art" is just one view of art, traceable via Aristotle to Hume and beyond to the cultural relativism of today. It is only fairly recently that this idea has become popular within aesthetics, which has been dominated overwhelmingly by attempts to find a universal definition of art regardless of individual taste preferences.
The last level is tough, for me at least. I had to wuss out and knock it down to easy and start again at level four to get through. Terrific fun, though. Lost about 8 hours to this game so far.
@ Corbie. It may not have been groundbreaking, but I think that it did combine action and puzzling in a more innovative (and evil) way than anything I can think of for that generation. That said, I haven't got Lolo yet, so I know nothing...
Just beaten it. A really focussed, tightly-designed game that plays beautifully. And apart from the occasional - and forgivable - 'old skool' checkpoint frustrations, it's actually not quite as hard as it's cracked up to be...which suited me just fine. Along with Solomon's Key, the best 500 points I've spent.
As the PC-Engine version is now en route - or so it would seem - is it worth waiting for that? I've read it's superior to the Mega Drive version, but how does it stack against the SNES version?
@ Digiki I'd agree the game isn't the most challenging in the world (for which I also love it, being 'time-poor', as they say), but I wouldn't call it slow or unrewarding. Seemed to rip along at a cracking pace, for me at least, especially battles which were over in a flash - perhaps by virtue of being quite easy, that's true. As for unrewarding...well if you're not into goofy humour, dopey characters and lunatic scenarios I suppose that may be fair. I haven't enjoyed a game this much for years, though.
As for the 'Peach-Block' criticism...you must time your blocking superbly! Hardly a criticism to level against the game, I'd suggest.
Online multiplayer of Bomberman Blast was so broken anyway I wouldn't want to be disappointed again. Leave it out, by all means. Looks great without it.
2D Boy FTW! I predict from 2D Boy next...'World of Goo Construction Kit'. Like LIttleBigPlanet only much, much better. Of course I'm basing this on no evidence whatsoever...but I can dream.
Just completed, and it was the most enjoyable, silly, touching and characterful game I've played for years. RPG snobs dismiss this game as 'RPG-lite'. I just wish there were more games like it! Better than Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on GBA...almost!
So now Nintendo are selling individual fragments from mini-game collections? Can we look forward to all 200+ made in wario games to be put on sale in this way?
I'm really enjoying this. Just beaten it for first time (much more forgiving than Treasure's usual fare) albeit on 'Easy' mode - haha!
The story is indeed pure gash and it is acted atrociously, but that just adds to the lunatic charm of it for me. Reminds me a bit of that nasty anime Urotsokidoji, which I'm ashamed to say I've seen...twice.
The crazy shooting scenarios are where it's at, in particular the incredible aircraft carrier level and the side-scrolling level. It's not in the same league as Lylat Wars, in my opinion, but well worth a blast. And at about 45 minutes for a run-through it doesn't outstay it's welcome.
It's odd how early 3D graphics date much worse than 2D graphics that are often much older. I'm finding the visuals here a real barrier to my getting immersed in the adventure, which I've never experienced with any other game before. So far, LTTP still does it better for me, but I'll persevere manfully...
I'm ashamed to say I've never played a Megaman game. Would the connoisseurs on this site recommend this new one as the best, or should I pop my cherry with 2 instead?
I just played online against the guy ranked no. 1 on leaderboards and got my arse handed to me on a plate. Ludicrous game - carnage on a scale comparable to Super Smash Bros Brawl. Love it.
Finally finished it, after chipping away on-and-off for weeks. Superb game. The levels are really beautifully crafted, although they do get increasingly hellish. Rooms 43 and 46 must be among the most fiendish ever committed to code - they had me chewing the furniture...
Anyway, I wish Tecmo would update this rather than pumping out their silly, soft-porn, boobs-on-the-beach 'games'.
Can anyone recommend a similar experience on VC? Adventures of Lolo, maybe?
Fabulous game. Completed it 3 times so far, and just got reamed in last scene by Andross while trying to complete a 4th time via all-hard route. That's nearly 2 hours up the spout! A mid-mission save feature would have been nice, but still this game is too superb to complain and I know I'll be back to try again. This has just jumped to the top of my Wanted-on-Wii list.
Just downloaded and starting to get into it. This game is stunning. Not sure if I prefer it to my series fave Metroid Fusion, but it certainly puts Metroid Prime Corruption to shame (my copy has now been launched back at the shop).
luv shooters even tho i suck at em royally. is this another hardcore one that's gonna humiliate me once again, or does it have easygoing and fun gameplay to match the visuals?
Was a little disappointed with this. The weapon-switch system is overly fiddly and the difference between weapons is unclear. Also, most boss battles (at least half of em, which is as far as I've got) can be overcome by continuously zooming behind and sticking em in the back.

Re: Wii Manufacturing Cost Reduced by 45%
I wouldn't blame Nintendo for not liking the British. I hate the bastards, and I'm one of 'em.

That looks a grin. For the right price I might take a chance on this.

Re: Is Game Design Art? Great Designers Say 'Not Really'
It's a non-question, seeing as 2,500 years of debate have not yet resulted in a single, over-arching definition of what defines art 'itself'.

Re: Capcom: Mega Man 9 is Best Selling WiiWare Title
It'd be kind of interesting to know what wii sales meant in terms of revenue.
Re: Wisconsin To Tax Digital Downloads
That sucks guys, but unless you live in the UK you really don't know the meaning of tax.
Re: First Impressions: Mr. Driller World
This sounds just perfect, thanks for impressions. ..
I've got Mr. Driller on Ps1 and love it so I hope this gets worldwide release sooner rather than later.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (11th Feb)
Swedes sure love their Megaman.
Nuff respect.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (11th Feb)
Oh well...I just hope these World of Goo topspots over the past many months have translated into a decent amount of cash for 2D Boy...
Re: Review: Snowboard Riot (WiiWare)
So Hudson screw up another online Wiiware game with too many power-ups!...wasn't Bomberman enough?
Damn, when a few people die on that you can't even see the playing field for power-ups!

What about Beb?! I hope there's a Beb available via DLC,
just to bring closure to the vowels.
Re: Eduardo the Samurai Toaster - First Look Video
The music and art are great (latter reminds me a bit of Kirby Canvas Curse). Looks like it plays pretty smooth too...promising!

What did you dislike so much about the game? As your view is so different from mine I'd genuinely be interested to know.

This is quiet enough fannying about...World of Goo, please!
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (19th Nov)
Hurray for World of Goo!
Good news for 2DBoy, who recently reported that 9 out of every 10 PC versions are pirated.

epic news...good lads. can't wait.

Not sure I understand how this is a new storage solution.
Isn't it just the old storage solution, i.e.: SD cards?

I second comments above re. retail release in Europe. Via WiiWare I'd get World of Goo. Not going to be picking it up off the shelf, though.

'jeopardy'?!
wots the big deal?
1. not all titles on comp are worth having.
2. comp is for different console anyway.
why shouldnt snk make their stuff available to different users in different ways?
Re: Only Geeks And Otaku Want Extra Storage On The Wii
Geeks AND Otaku?!

the whingers and gobs on this thread really ought to try this game before condemning it. a classic.
