@Obywan Ahhhh, very good to know. Thank you. Can you confirm then that additional transfers of new purchases can be done after that? Have you tried?
Also, it was my understanding that there is no way to pick and choose. For example, if I wanted to keep the 5 player TG-16 games on the Wii, but transfer everything else. That's not possible, is it?
The next logical followup question for me would be: What if I wanted to pay double, and have it on both machines after I transferred license #1 from Wii to Wii U?
@Hokori My understanding is that the Wii is "wiped" after doing the transfer. Is this not the case? Does the Wii Shop stay linked? Can multiple Wii --> Wii U transfers be done?
I wouldn't be upset if there was a large price cut coupled with an Ambassador program similar to the 3DS.
Also, Nintendo MUST fix the virtual console transfer issues from Wii to Wii U. As it stands now, those who transfer give up a lot of functionality (5 player games, Gamecube controllers & Club Nintendo coins), only gaining game consolidation to one console.
@dustin_g No. If you have an Amazon Prime membership, you can watch quite a bit for no additional cost. For everything else, you can pay by the episode/series/movie to watch.
Has the US ever gotten a REAL Mahjong game? All I have seen is these puzzle games. I like real Mahjong, and Japan sees plenty of real Mahjong games. They even had one with the Mario characters (Yakuman DS).
Edit: Almost forgot, It's Fluidity for me all the way today. I already have lost levels on the Wii, otherwise I would pick that up too.
I just went ahead and ordered a few of these. I think that I will put most of my DS cases into storage, and place the carts into these cases. Now I just need a good idea for containing all of the manuals compactly. Unlike many gamers these days, I still read them!
Loading times are annoying for me. It takes a few beats too long.
Another thing that I don't like regarding loading is when a disc is first launched. Take Nintendo Land for example. The "curtain" screen comes up, music plays, but that's it. It sits for too long with nothing occurring, and then the two spotlights appear. I would like to see a Loading..., where the ... is animated in some way. It feels too sterile at the moment.
Also Nintendo: Please work on getting VC games playable on the game pad. Thanks!
I want to know if partial transfers are possible too. I have some TG-16 games that have five player support. At this point in time, these games are limited to only 4 players on the Wii U. I need to be armed with all of the information before I am comfortable doing the transfer.
I get the feeling that you didn't read the same review that I did?
From the review:
"soon you're funnelled[sic] through laboratories, the human body, sewers, rockets and more, your liquid morphing to fit these settings as you go"
I remember there being a sewer or two in Fluidity, but this description does not imply rip-off.
"explosive gel that cannot be moved too quickly" - inovation
"float through zero gravity" - inovation
"through plants as a drop of weedkiller" - inovation
"...let you roll around as a disgusting mess of melted rat goop?" - Not in Fluidity
"Liquids change every few stages" - Fluidity has the same three throughout the entire game, with cloud form only being available late in the game. Fluidity was a Metroidvania where this sounds linear. Different approach to a SIMILAR concept.
"makes Puddle feel like more of a journey than you'd expect of such a game"
"chunky, clear visuals that meld realism and cartoon; polar opposite to Fluidity's purely cartoonish looks" - Doesn't sound like a ripoff to me.
As a gamer who grew up in the arcades, I have seen many small incremental changes. Expanding on what I mentioned before: Space Invaders --> Galaxian --> Galaga --> 1942
You throw the terms copycat and ripoff around too easily in my opinion. There are plenty instances of shovel-ware out there that REALLY do copycat and ripoff.
I like both systems. A third option, which I would also like, would be the Zelda II approach: Black menacing blobs where you don't quite know which monster you will face.
I really liked Seaman, though I didn't take good enough care of him, and he died. So sad. I will never forget when Seaman asked me if I had a girlfriend. I said yes. He then asked me if she was in the room. I answered honestly that yes she was. He then said something to the effect of "Nevermind then". Boy did that ever get my girlfriend going. She kept asking me what he meant, and why didn't I lie. All I could say was "How should I know," and "The instructions said never to lie to Seaman." Good times.
I have Odama, but never got very good at it. I will have to fire it up again one of these days. What a crazy concept!
The arcade game is really "the game that started it all." I actually played the arcade game first, and was disappointed that you couldn't hang from the sign in level 1 and kick the Jasons in the NES version.
Microsoft and Sony have already hoodwinked their player bases into paying top dollar to be beta testers. I fled PC gaming for consoles around 2000 because I was sick of doing that. Now, 12 years later, it has crept into consoles as well.
As soon as we stop getting mad, and accept these bugs as inevitable, the companies will get sloppier and sloppier. We need to hold them accountable, and demand a physical replacement. Doing so will send a message to the entire industry that the extra QA effort is required.
I still play old NES games to this day, and I plan on playing my DS and 3DS games far into the future as well. What happens in 15 years when the servers containing the patches go off line? Think about it. Get angry!
This is simply unacceptable to me. As someone who paid $40 for this title, I will not be satisfied until Aksys offers a cartridge replacement program to correct this bug. I will not accept a downloadable patch. I will be emailing them, and I urge everyone else who purchased this title to do so as well.
Skyward Sword was bad enough. This sounds like a much broader issue.
I have to admit being quite skeptical at any game that promises infinite generated levels. The concept works very well for Shiren, but in Shiren each area has certain constraints. Level 1 is always a forest, the towns are always in the same places, and so on.
I'll be watching the reviews on this one before chancing a purchase.
The chapters were great fun, but I found the uncertainty of when they would end detracted from the experience. In 2 of the chapters, I thought that there was going to be more to do, only to have the rug pulled out from me unexpectedly.
V has some of this as well, but I thought that they struck a very good balance. The unexpected turns in plot worked for the game, and not against it. Opinions differ of course. My friend set V down for a month after one of the plot twists, as it really rustled his jimmies.
This is a day one buy for me if they release it in NA. I found IV to be a great concept, poorly executed. V, on the other hand, remains one of my favorite JRPGs. I still have the DS remake of VI waiting here. Some day...
I think that Gamestop is quite concerned about the rise of digital distribution. Most consumers of Mature games are tech savvy enough to make the transition sooner or later. I think that Gamestop is forecasting an ever dwindling number of Mature gaming customers in its retail stores.
However, non gamer parents and grandparents may be very clueless and apprehensive about the concept of buying games/gifts digitally. I see this as less of a secondary avenue for Gamestop, but more of an actual re-branding of the entire store.
When buttons and controllers are pushed it will make noise. The microphone within the game pad is going to pick these up big time, as they are within the same enclosure and mechanically coupled to some degree.
Here's an experiment you can try yourself. Gently tap the casing of a microphone with your finger and your fingernail and listen to the recorded results. Now imagine the frantic button mashing and control stick movement, as well as the creaking of the game pad during intense sessions.
On the other hand, during a casual chat session outside of game play, the user will not be manipulating the controls in such a way. That's how I am parsing this announcement.
This is the face of globalization. It will get much worse before it gets better. China will need a national labor leader in the mold of Cesar Chavez for things to turn around. There will be crackdowns by the powers that be. There will be death and martyrs.
There is no way to go back. The international demand for cheap goods will ensure that. The only way is forward. Hopefully, for all of us, change comes as soon as it can.
@Klyo You raise two very good points. I apologize for my blatant sexism.
You know, I have always been disappointed with Celine for marrying that French dude. I mean, come on! We have like 150 million dudes in this country, and you have to find some French dude named Rene!
Thank you so much. I hadn't considered the ad supported route. That is not my style at all (DVR everything I watch on TV for this very reason), but makes perfect sense.
As a programmer by profession I know that the truly great games/programs that really stand the test of time show an acute attention to detail, and have coat after coat after COAT of polish. That is what I have always treasured about console gaming: The great games are really something special. I feel saddened by current trends. I get a nasty feeling in my stomach that we are all heading for another crash. It just feels to me to be a race to the bottom. Plenty of cheap and 'good enough' titles, but far from enough polish or attention to detail.
Regarding the Nintendo Video topic: Dinosaur Office and Son of a Pitch are two series that have struck a chord with me. Also, I have always dug the quirky artsy things that come along every two months or so. The music videos are OK. I find myself watching them once, and then soon forget about them.
For me, the title is perfect for those times in life where I find myself waiting for a brief, yet indefinite period of time. The quasi-five minute wait for my girlfriend to leave work and get to the car, or that uncertain window of time while waiting at the doctor's office to be called.
@grumblegrumble I have yet to own any Android or Apple devices, so I am a bit naive on the subject. Are the free versions shareware, or full releases? @ejamer "It's a simple programming interface where you have to tell the computer what to do from (almost) the lowest level possible."
Not quite.
I suggest reading up on developing for the Atari if you want to get LOW level. BASIC is a HIGH level language, and this throws in a ton of extra support to make audio and graphics very, very easy (relatively speaking).
Some examples of Low level languages are machine code and assembly. Now those are a chore.
Great title. I am having a fun time getting up to speed on the available commands. The built in commands for handling background and sprites is truly draw dropping.
If you have never dabbled with games programming when BASIC was king (C64/Apple era), you may fail to realize the power that sprite scaling and especially ROTATION give you. Good stuff!
I picked this up earlier this week, and plan to dig in after I finish Xenoblade. I have always wanted to play Nobunaga's Ambition and some of the other Koei games, but never had enough patience to learn the complicated system.

This would free up my Wii to be a dedicated Netflix, You Tube & Amazon Prime box for my bedroom. Very tough call still though.
