Nicalis won't publish La-Mulana on WiiWare in the West, but that doesn't mean the game is entirely, 100% stone cold dead.
We asked La-Mulana director Takumi Naramura if he and the Nigoro team would continue to pursue a western release through another publisher, to which he replied:
The game is completed, we welcome the offer from a publisher. Since there are people who have Wii for playing La-Mulana, I want to do something.
Any publishers who want to get involved, Nigoro is waiting for your call.
We'll have a full interview with Naramura, revealing more about the project's cancellation and Nigoro's future plans. You won't want to miss it.

Well at least there's the possibility of this coming out here...
Sweet now some publisher get out there and help them
Hopefully someone better than Cave Story Inc. ... I mean Nicalis takes over
Edit: Also I hope if someone does pick this up that it gets moved to the eShop, I don't really care if there is 3D in the game, but I would rather have this on the go
Maybe there is a god after all...
I have no idea what this game is and I've never heard anything about it (just speaking as a North American gamer )
@hydeks Where have you been for the last three years?
I make my offer
too bad i'm not a publisher
This would make a perfect Kickstarter project.
Excellent. I hope we could have this game. It´s an instant buy for me.
Looks like an opportunity I wouldn't miss if I was a publisher.
This is the probably the most hyped WiiWare game next to Retro City Rampage and should at least generate enough sales in Europe an North America to make some profit.
@DrKarl That would be the first kickstarter project I'd ever support. I really want to play La-Mulana on my Wii!
Maybe Konami or Sega would be interested if Nintendo isn't. I hope Capcom doesn't take interest because I'd rather not have the game be stripped down for the sake of selling pieces of it for extra.
@DrDaisy Wow another cheapshot at capcom, in an article that has nothing to with capcom. will everyone please get over megaman legends 3 plenty of games get cancelled and never get so much heat. And since some people are ridiculous and stubborn please feel free to flame away
It doesn't matter who releases it, as long as someone just does it.
However, XSEED is a bad choice, because they don't publish in Europe.
But maybe the game can have different publishers in different countries, I just hope things won't get too complicated, as they already are. Anyway, I will contact some publishers now.
I hope somebody takes the offer. I really want to play this game on the Wii. It would be the perfect swan song for the WiiWare service.
For EnjoyUp games would a pleasure to publish La Mulana in All Europe and America.
Calculate the amount of money needed to publish it yourself, then evaluate the chances for this thing via Kickstarter. This way people could buy the game in advance and the Nigoro guys might at least be sure not to end up with a financial loss.
With the minimum sales limit for WiiWare still in place this game isn't exactly cut out to make money for a publisher or even Nigoro themselves.
Atlus maybe?
If nobody wants to publish it, then there must be a reason.
Hmmm. Not on WiiWare. The problems with that platform are well documented, but 3DS Ware - I'd be interested in that.
@ImDiggerDan The problem with that is that the Wiiware version is already done and can be released at any time, while porting it to the 3DS would take some amount of work, having to go through and check for bugs, make sure everything still works etc and then have to go through Nintendo's submission process all over again..
@mattatron Uh, she never mentioned Mega Man Legends 3. I don't think Nigoro would let potential publishers ruin the game anyway.
@accc - Yeah, and the problem with WiiWare is that you'd have to fork out money to get the thing released and quite possibly never make a penny back.
The Wiiware version is already done. They've already spent all of the money that they needed to develop it. It wouldn't cost them any more money to release it.
Don't bother with WiiWare, just bring it to the 3DS eShop or put it on the Wii U.
3DSWare PLZ
Just prep it for launch on Wii U e-shop as a launch title.
Does anybody have the contact email of NIGORO? I'd like them to discuss the EU/NA La-Mulana WiiWare release with EnjoyUp Games.
Just bring it to the PC and use Kickstarter. I'm sure he'd raise more than enough money.
Hopefully we still be seeing it on the Wii over here, but I don't hold my breath!!!
It'd be great if they could move the game over to the more competent 3DS eShop. If not though, I'll just buy the upcoming PC release.
And on a vaguely related note, I'd love it if more indie developers followed the lead of VVVVVVV and re-released their games through 3DSWare. The great Aquaria might actually be an even better fit on the 3DS than it was on the PC.
Wow. The game is all done and it is just sitting there. Hopefully someone picks it up to publish. Maybe Sega. They have been showing the Wii VC a lot of love lately. Reminds me, I have to pick up some Sega VC games
TO PUBLISHERS
please pick up this game . I was so upset over this not coming here, that it left a bad taste in my mouth. Oh and i thank you very much Nicalis , i hope this game gets released somewhere else and sells alot in the west so you can regret it.
They should try to get the game running on the 3DS or Wii U. That would be a nice download for either of those systems' e-shop. A WiiWare version doesn't seem to make sense at this point for any publisher.
Why don't they just publish it themselves? They published it on the Japanese Wii Shop, so they should be able to put it up on either the EU/AU or US wii shop. It's not like they are publishing a physical game & they've already handled publishing it on one service.
Wait, I don't get it. Nicalis Doesn't release this game for the west, but keeps Cave Story mostly outside of Japan. Who exactly are they marketing to?
@accc unfortunately, it apparently would. Every time you submit the game it has to go through a "quality check" process...labor that carries a fee. In addition, on WiiWare, an ESRB rating is also required which is a separate submit process that carries its own fee. THEN, you gotta spread the word for the game (since, as we learned with MDK, <5000 sales equals Nintendo keeps all yo monies) and that will incur marketing costs.
@Monkeh Kickstarter....THAT would be very interesting. They would need an American/English-speaking liaison to put together a compelling Kickstarter pledge and also decide how to reward supporters (free downloadable goods such as OST perhaps?). Localization may also still be required assuming Nicalis would not be willing to share their work (perhaps it could be licensed?). It helps that good coverage around the American gaming press would be almost guaranteed...for a modest project like this, a reasonably modest target seems quite attainable!
@SKTTR !? Gawdspeed!

Why don't they just publish it themselves? " many of those smaller games cost just shy of $100,000. 00 USD to publish a short run of them and that does not include the check process for either wiiware or 3dsware. Many small indie dev. don't have that kind of loot laying around the house...do you? That being said, it amazes me how much of this shovelware gets funded and through N's strict quality and content controls, just to get to us as sheer broken garbage. (Settles DS i'm lookin' right at YOU.) I guess they're not particular on who wastes thier own money as long as they're paid and the Name - rep. is safe.
