Re: Nintendo Sends Out Second Game-Key Card & Physical Game Survey

Physical games on Nintendo Switch hardware mattered to me because I always looked towards my handhelds to hold me out during summer storm power outages. There's something magical about being able to just pick any game off the shelf, especially ones I haven't thought about or touched in a while. The NS2 creates a problem of requiring the GKC to be downloaded ahead of time and installed for it to be considered being playable during these times. For a majority of consumers, I understand this is probably not a big deal... but I own over 200 physical NS1 titles. Can't see this happening with NS2. At some point, the draw of paying a premium to buy games on a portable device that sacrifices performance gets outweighed by better value proposition elsewhere.

@UltimateOtaku91 85% games not requiring downloads is an overwhelming majority. The 15% that do require downloads consist of many of live service / multiplayer games where it's quite understandable to require downloads. I was surprised to see a release for Honkai Star Rail like... why did this need to be a physical lol

@SillyG My guess is that NS1 games are so easily pirated now, they're a bit hesitant about that route of providing it all on the NS1 ver. But we're seeing mixed signals from companies... like square enix wasn't offering an upgrade path for Dragon Quest 1-2 HD-2D remake, but they're offering it for free for FFTactics. What gives?!

Re: NIS America: Trails Beyond The Horizon Switch 2 Game-Key Card Release Is "Most Beneficial Option" For Fans

@Kneppy18 the issue here is game key cards have not been replacing code in the box. They're replacing real physicals. You cite benefits that are common with real physical copies. The other issue here specifically with NIS titles for ns2 is despite opting for the "cheaper" option, they also went and marked it up to be more expensive. So it cost them less to make, and they want us to pay more to receive less. In what world should we accept moving forward with getting less for our money and be happy with it?

Re: Nintendo Switch 2: Launch Games - All Day One Releases

@SpacedDuck That's all subjective but I think far from it. i looked up every launch list and the last time I enjoyed a console launch was Gameboy Advance LOL. Let's not forget the 3DS launch was so bad that they apologized for it. There were no games on any Playstation launch i could think of that I cared to play... unless we count launch WINDOW games, I do remember Gravity Rush on the PS Vita being fun and innovative.

The Switch 2 seems well-postured with this launch. I think it reaches out to all the people who stayed away from the Switch 1 with better performance, and even invites them to try the Zelda titles with upgrades. I have Switch 1 backlogs that I hope will perform better on the device, but out of the launch titles, one or two games for me is enough to hold me out for what's coming shortly after.

The biggest problem I'm seeing is that this is likely the last and final console we'll see (out of all three big players) to ever feature meaningful physical copies of video games, what with the introduction of game-key carts being a catalyst of its death.
