Re: Review: Hair Salon: Pocket Stylist (DSiWare)

Dazza

It's funny, I thought James would relish the opportunity to be a make-up stylist for the day and promptly award this top marks.

I bet he's just trying to act cool and pretend it's average fodder when secretly he really loves it!

Re: DSiWare Will Not Be Transferable Unless Nintendo Makes Changes

Dazza

It's about time that Nintendo sorted out this hot potato. Sony, Microsoft, Valve (Steam) and Apple all have an account based approach for transferring downloaded content to a replacement console/device. Nintendo are really lagging behind here.

How can they expect a DSi owner to upgrade to a DSi XL and sacrifice all the downloaded content? This is 2010, they need to wake up and smell the coffee

Re: Podcast: Episode 16 - Get Ready for E3!

Dazza

Nice work guys, I really enjoyed this month's podcast. I feel even more excited to see what will come out of E3 now after lsitening to James and Corbie's speculations. Like James I too am jealous that the Corbinator will be hands on with the 3DS at the show. Lucky man!

Zach's section was neat too, I'm not sure who all those random people are that he was interviewing because I got distracted by something but I liked the sinister music playing over the story about the Mormon Intendo! hehe

Re: Review: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

Great review Corbie, I really enjoyed my hands on with this at Nintendo's media summit and guessed it would be a 10/10. I'm pleased to see it lived up to expectations

Re: Review: UN Squadron (Super Nintendo)

Dazza

And to think that Mega Drive owning naysayers used to say that the SNES couldn't handle a quality shmup. UN Squadron proved em wrong, it was one of my favourite games back then. Top stuff!

Great retro review as always Mr Frear

Re: Feature: The Neo Geo Shooters We Need On Virtual Console

Dazza

Totally agreed, Neo Geo needs more shmup love on the VC.

Blazing Star is an absolutely amazing shooter, I hope this gets a VC release soon. No more fighters please!

Viewpoint I am less sure about, it took far too much money off me back in the days... I like the game, but it's so damn hard!

Re: Review: Rage of the Gladiator (WiiWare)

Dazza

Wow I thought this might be good, but I didn't think it would be THIS good. I can't wait for this to get a UK release now. RRAAAGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEE!!!1

Perhaps they should have charged 1500 points for it after all? At just 1000 I feel like I am getting a real bargain now

Re: First Impressions: WarioWare DIY, FlingSmash and Photo Dojo

Dazza

FlingSmash was actually quite good fun and made good use of the increased accuracy of MotionPlus. If it's priced sensibly as a budget title I would be quite happy to buy this. It kind of felt like a Kirby title in some ways.

It was really hard to get a feeling for WarioWare DIY as it would take time to get used to using the editor to create your own WarioWare levels. What I saw of this seemed pretty powerful though. Sharing your creations with the world is a great idea, this could be a massive hit for Nintendo.

Photo Dojo is as shallow as a puddle, but creating the 13 frames of movement and recording your own voice for the special moves, etc was hilarious. It's pretty social playing the game too because you have to sit so close to your opponent, one player using d-pad and the other the 4 buttons on the right. It's certainly a laugh, even though there didn't appear to be much depth to the proceedings.

Last but not least, Monster Hunter Tri. I was a little perplexed by what to do initially, the Nintendo rep who sat me down to play didn't hang around to give me any much-needed pointers to get me started (unlike other games where we were given a lot more one-to-one help). The controls seemed a bit awkward and it took some time to figure out what all the actions were and how to use items, etc. Once it all clicked into place I was happily slaying dinos with my fellow players. I have to say I came away feeling a bit indifferent about this one, but admittedly it’s not really the sort of game I’m into generally.

Re: First Impressions: Sin and Punishment 2

Dazza

Aside from Galaxy 2, this was probably my favourite game from the Nintendo Summit. I got a good 30 mins playing it and I have to say it really does justice to the N64 classic.

Being able to shoot by pointing the Wii Zapper at the screen was much more enjoyable than moving the cursor around in the original. The game is every bit as fast and furious, so it's nice to have a bit more freedom.

The game oozes so much style, it sort of reminded me of Capcom's P.N.03. This is a real arcade style blaster.

It's gotta be a preorder for me!

Re: Trailer: Sin and Punishment 2 + Screenshots

Dazza

@V8 I don't think it supports Classic Controller tbh. Yes aiming is easier than with a cursor, but the action is so frantic why wouldn't you want it to be?

Even on 'easy' the game still is challenging. You'll need ninja-like reflexes to roll through all the stuff being thrown at you on-screen and still keep shooting at the same time

Re: Trailer: Sin and Punishment 2 + Screenshots

Dazza

Other than Galaxy 2, this was my favourite game from Nintendo's Media Summit yesterday. It was so bad-ass, just like the N64 version.

Using the Wii Zapper was the perfect way of playing this. It's great how it's essentially an on-rails shooter but you have freedom of movement in a sense too.

It's shaping up to be more than a worthy sequel to the N64 classic. I'm feeling smug that Europe is getting it first for a change

Re: First Impressions: Metroid: Other M

Dazza

I have to say I came away liking this a little more than James (not that he disliked it particulary). The flip between 2D (which you can move up and down within like Paper Mario) and 3D works really well.

The only thing I found a little hard to get used to was that 3D mode is only really for shooting on the spot (like a gun turret), so to answer KiroX777, it's not really that similar to Metroid Prime series were you have free movement.

30 mins hands on didn't feel like long enough for me to get to grips with all that was going on really, the controls felt a bit clunky to begin with.... however near the end I felt much more comfortable with them.

The cutscenes (which are plentiful) are very impressive, heck they even look HD! Some of the best looking stuff I have seen on the Wii to date.

Certainly one to keep an eye on as if you weren't already convinced

Re: Gaming from the Heart

Aw Sean you big softy! Who'd have thought you were such a romantic? (Although I wonder if you're playing videogames today instead of showing affection on your other half now hehehe)

Re: Review: Blaster Master: Overdrive (WiiWare)

Dazza

I'm glad that Sunsoft didn't stray too far from the original formula that made Blaster Master one of the most fondly remembered games on the NES. This seems like the perfect tribute. I can't wait to pick it up when it hits Europe.

Great review as always Corbie
