Great news! I thought FlingSmash was good fun when we played at Ninty's media event waaaayy back in Feb. Perfect for a quick pick-up-and-play and a good demo of how accurate MotionPlus is.
Putting it in a bundle with the Wii Remote Plus seems like a good plan, let's just hope that it's priced sensibly
This looks really great, I'm glad there are still devs like WayForward around making great 2D games like this. Also Kudos to Warner Bros for taking a chance on this too.
It's a great movie, but with all those plot twists I can't imagine how it could be adapted into a 'seek and find puzzle game' without making lots of compromises.
Maybe a Shutter Island platformer would have been a better idea? Bash any mentalists and guards that get in your way to keep your insanity meter in check. Your goal will be to duff in the psychologists who think they know it all. If your insanity meter gets too high then you get a lobotomy!
@mariofanatic128 Reviews have to take into account the target audience. Obviously this is aimed at the causal market. Perhaps parents with small kids. If we brutally dismissed all of the causal games/apps on the Wii then we'd have a lot of negative reviews!
We like to review the VC version when it comes out so we ditched the retro review rather than have two very similar reviews. Don't worry it will be reborn soon!
@JamieO nope, each of the 3DS consoles were only set up to perform one function. The PR staff couldn't (or wouldn't) show anything other than what their little placard advertised. No DS games on 3DS on show!
Now I really wasn't so sure about this one. It certainly didn't have any of the creative charm of the Tim Burton style concept art we saw all that time ago. The graphics were impressive, but felt too dark too me... kinda like Mushroom Men but not in a good way.
The Steamboat Willie level was beautiful to look at, but lacked the pixel perfect platform jumps which you might have expected. There was no sense of challenge at all really other than to collect the items. The level was all over in almost a minute. I must admit I expected more from this.
I do agree with James, it's impossible to tell what the long term appeal would be after only having a 30 min session. I think it could go either way honestly. If it does turn out to be genius, then it will be a slow burner. You'd have to be the biggest Disney fan to be overwhelmed by this from the get-go in my opinion.
Epic Yarn was easily my favourite game of the bunch from the London event. My only concern is it might be too easy, but with all the creativity on offer here it would likely be a fun ride regardless. The two player mode was a hoot!
@JamieO Indeed, it was a little disappointing that we weren't able to actually play more of the 3DS games. We were told by a few of the PR girls that the EU launch date would most likely be March 2011 so I guess if true then there is still a lot of time to get these games ready. The Mario Kart 3D demo impressed me the most, the karts literally lept off the screen and there were some lovely effects such as pink blossom falling over the track which added a wonderful sense of depth.

Nice review James, sounds like a great tribute to the old Mega Drive Sonic games. Instabuy for me when it hits the Euro shop on Friday
Re: Rumour: Limited Edition Red Wii Europe-Bound Before Christmas
All very nice, but they could have at least supplied a red stand to help keep the Wii upright. Looks horrible with the grey!

Will be nice to have this before Skyward Sword is out next year. Lovely stuff!
Re: Virtual Handheld Confirmed for 3DS
That's excellent, I can't wait to play some of the classic B&W Gameboy games again!

Re: Gaijin Games Tease Fifth Game in BIT.TRIP Series
So far all the games in the BIT.TRIP series have gained great review scores, so I'm banking that this one might be Gaijin's downfall.

Only joking guys!

Re: Billy Mitchell Back on Top of Donkey Kong
Haha Billy loves this drama doesn't he? As soon as some poor sap beats this he'll bring his A-game and devastate them. The man is a machine!
