Re: Help WiiWare Demos Get a Time Extension and Win BIT.TRIP FATE

Crunchewy

The way Nintendo is handling demos is just insane. Why are these demos time limited? Why aren't they available for all games? Have demos available for all download games on day of release and without expiring has worked wonders for Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade. It's great for gamers and it's great for game sales. I just don't understand Nintendo. I hope they get a clue when they get around to releasing the Wii 2.

Re: Review: Space Ace (DSiWare)

Crunchewy

I have Dragons Lair on my iPhone. I got it for 99 cents and it was a complete waste of money. What a terrible, terrible game. I'm not shocked that Space Ace doesn't hold up either.

Re: Review: Fireplacing (WiiWare)

Crunchewy

Lack of a policy requiring all download games to have a demo on day of release, and have them always, is what leads to "games" like this. They hope to take advantage of people before they're found out. Nintendo needs to change. They are to blame for this.

Re: Review: FlingSmash (Wii)

Crunchewy

Amazon.com is selling this for $32, cheaper then the Wii Remote Plus alone, so everyone should buy it if they want a Wii Remote Plus or 2 or 3 or 4.

Re: Review: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 (Wii)

Crunchewy

If they make Tiger '12 have real disc golf courses, I'll buy it day one. I really hate that they have you playing disc golf on regular golf courses. It doesn't completely ruin it, but it's not at all as good as if it had real disc golf course designs/terrain. Actually, I wish they'd make a separate game that focuses solely on disc golf and gets it right. I'm not really that interested in the regular golf.

Re: Review: HB Arcade Disc Golf (WiiWare)

Crunchewy

I wish this had been good. I'm actually genuinely disappointed. I like disc golf, but while Tiger Wood's 11's disc golf works well, it's on regular golf courses instead of disc golf courses, and that sucks. I hope somebody picks up the ball (err... disc).

Re: HB Arcade Disc Golf

Crunchewy

I like Disc Golf more then "real golf". I like it in Tiger Woods '11 with the big exception that it doesn't really have disc golf courses - you just play disc golf on normal golf courses, which kind of sucks. So, I'm hoping this game doesn't suck and is really disc golf. But it probably will suck. Oh well.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)

Crunchewy

I with billy-beauts on the originals. They looked pretty for their day, but the gameplay wasn't that great. Still, I am interested in this one. All the great reviews make it hard not to be. I need a good deal on it, though....

Re: Review: Sonic Colours (Wii)

Crunchewy

Is the Kinect game really that bad? What about for young kids? My 9 and 7.9 year olds both want it for xmas. Should I gently tell them no, or will their age range like it? I know this isn't the place, but it was brought up....

Re: North America Gets In On WiiWare Demo Action Next Week

Crunchewy

@20 on the Xbox 360 there is a free demo, on release date and for eternity, for all Xbox Live Arcade games and Indie games. Guess which platform I've ended up downloading far more games on? Was it the platform that gave me "free entertainment" or the one that gave us none, and now only a pittance of time limited demos? I think you can probably guess that one. The reality is that when you are able to try a game, you are more likely to either: A) end up really wanting to buy it or B) don't buy and don't get buyers remorse, which makes you feel great about the platform and confident about future purchases. Demos make for higher sales. If Nintendo doesn't get that, then things are looking bleak.

Re: North America Gets In On WiiWare Demo Action Next Week

Crunchewy

I will download all of these. I wish they'd quite with the limited time nonsense. I really just don't get the reason for that. What good is it to have demos go away? Who wins in this? The consumer doesn't and neither does the game developer nor Nintendo. Infuriating. I don't mind that they are rolling them out gradually, I can see why that might be necessary, but having them only be available for a limited time? Incredibly stupid.

Re: Wii Speak's Time is Officially Over

Crunchewy

WiiSpeak may not be discontinued, but as it stands it should be. It never worked very well for us and it had the annoying property that (in Animal Crossing at least) once it was on and you were in a chat, you were not suppose to change the volume on your TV! In order to change the volume you have to turn off the Wii Speak, adjust the TV volume and then turn it back on. Then repeat because you discover you didn't make it loud enough, or you made it too loud. Terrible.

Re: Sonic Colours Barely Breaks into UK Top 40

Crunchewy

The other problem is that they also recently released Episode 4. They've got two 2D Sonic games pretty close together, and apparently they released the worse one first. I'm not sure I understand that approach. Not a great way to build excitement.

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th November 2010 (North America)

Crunchewy

I can't wait to be excited about a handful of demos only available for a limited time. Can someone explain to me why they are using this approach? Do they not have the capacity or is it just some weird marketing gimmick? If the latter, I wish they'd just drop it already and release demos for everything. Could be made available over time, I could understand that, but certainly the demos should not expire. That's just incredibly stupid.

And of course this week in downloads is another embarrassment. Closest thing to not being embarrassing is Need for Speed except of course for the fact that iOS (iPod touch/iPhone/iPad), once claimed to NOT be a competitor, is getting Need for Speed Hot Pursuit today. Ouch.

Re: WiiWare Demos Launch This Week with Four New Downloads

Crunchewy

And I seriously hope they get it right with the sequel to the Wii, and that that sequel is in our hands next year. My purchases for the Wii, even disc-based games, are tailing off. I no longer really even want to buy anything for the Wii any more due to things like lack of demos, no real achievements system (something I didn't think I was going to like, but I really like it on the 360), poorer online (albeit free - can't knock that!), etc. The first party games are still going to get occasional love, but I really doubt I'll buy another 3rd party game ever again, except perhaps for DDR as I can use my good dance pads for it and annoyingly can't on the 360. I wish that I could. Certainly not anything that's cross-platform. The Wii's days are numbered whether Nintendo wants to believe it or not. This Christmas season is going to be a rough one for Nintendo, and I think thats's actually a good thing. It will be a wake up call.

Re: WiiWare Demos Launch This Week with Four New Downloads

Crunchewy

Too little too late. All WiiWare games should have an always available demo. Also you should be able to unlock the full game the same way as is done on the 360: pick a menu item and in a few seconds the full game is unlocked. No downloading an entirely separate version. But that's secondary. There's just no excuse for not having demos for all games available all the time. They could add the demos gradually over time if that's necessary, but they shouldn't be pulling them after a limited time. It's pathetic. I buy a lot more stuff on the 360 for this very reason. Of course there's other games I don't buy because I didn't like the demo (Super Meat Boy, for example), but that's good for the service too - it means buyers far less frequently have "buyers remorse" and have a good feeling about the service. WiiWare is a disaster.

Re: Super Meat Boy May Skip WiiWare and Head to Retail

Crunchewy

I tried the demo on the 360 and got annoying frustrated just in the demo. Needless to say, I won't be buying it on any platform! The funny thing is I liked Mega Man 10 a lot, though admittedly only on easy mode. The normal mode is way to hard. I wish SMB had an easy mode. Oh well.

Re: Get Ready for KINECTaku!

Crunchewy

Wow - amazon sold out? I wonder if that's due to lack of supply, or actually huge demand? I guess we'll find out eventually. Hopefully they get more in for xmas. I'd rather not pay tax if I buy this thing.

Re: Telltale's Back to the Future Not Coming to Wii

Crunchewy

I'm ready for the Wii sequel. I love the Wii, but we need Wii 2, or whatever they want to call it, soon. They'd better not shy away from borrowing what works great on the 360. Achievements. Free demos for every downloadable title. Great online. HD graphics. Lots of storage. Transferable licenses and ability to play download games on multiple consoles. Ok, leave out the paying for online bit. And it needs to add something new and compelling. I actually rather hope that Nintendo has a terrible holiday season, because then they'll be forced into it - the writing will have been on the wall.

Re: Yes, You Can Transfer DSiWare to 3DS

Crunchewy

Good news definitely, but they also need to make your Nintendo Points transferrable, and not just between DSi and 3DS, but between those and the Wii. I.e. points should be attributed with an account, and not a device. And, of course, WiiWare needs the same treatment. Wii to Wii and Wii to ???

Re: Peter Moore Disappointed With Tiger Woods 11 Sales on Wii

Crunchewy

I upgraded, but truth-be-told, I didn't play '10 that much and I haven't play '11 that much. The mini-golf is pretty lousy. The best thing about '11, and the reason I upgraded, was online disc-golf. But no one is playing online, or at least they weren't when I tried. I do wish it had sold better. I wanted to play some online disc golf.

Re: Angry Birds Making Their Nest on WiiWare

Crunchewy

Also, this game is way cuter and funnier then Boom Blox, which is not the same as saying that it's better (or worse), rather just that who doesn't like splatting pigs with angry birds shot from a sling shot?

Re: Angry Birds Making Their Nest on WiiWare

Crunchewy

This is easily one of my favorite games of all time on any platform. I wouldn't buy it for the DSi because I already have it on my iPhone and the DSi version isn't going to be better, but the chance to play it on the big screen? That I think I'm willing to pay for. Hopefully they pull off the controls right. There ought to be a mechanic in which you set a rough position, and then can adjust with the dpad before launching, somehting like that, so you can have fine control. If they do something like that it will be a hit. Also, the rare case of a port from the iPhone that I'm actually looking forward to!

Re: Rumour: Wii 2 to Feature Blu-ray Drive, Out Next Year

Crunchewy

@theblackdragon but I think most people are ready for a download only game system, especially if the system and the games are substantially less expensive. There is a lot of expense involved in distributing games and that would way lower with a download-only system, plus Nintendo would be the sole "store" provider and would stand to reap profits like never before. As such games could be priced substantially lower. Also the cost of the system would be lower and it would be free of unreliable parts such as DVD drives, so their support costs would be lower too - it would solid-state. If they could put out a new console that cost, say, $99, yet had better graphics, online, etc, and games cost, say, $20 tops, with many "minis" available as well for as little as 99 cents (think iPhone), I think that would be a huge seller. Besides that, Apple is going to be entering this market with their new iTV that will support Apps, and if history repeats itself, everybody else better get on board sooner rather then later lest they be left in the dust. There's a huge market out there of people unwilling to pay $50 for a game (let alone $60). Even the market that has been paying $50 and $60 and is gasping at the prices now - see all the pre-order and other deals game companies are having to do to make their games sell, as well as the steep drop in prices in a short periods of time. $20 is even pushing it. I think Nintendo is smart enough to know that their next console has to push game prices down way lower then the competition. A download-only system is probably the only way to do that while also making the system better.

Re: Rumour: Wii 2 to Feature Blu-ray Drive, Out Next Year

Crunchewy

I think a new Wii by the end of next year is possible, but I think it's pretty unlikely that it would have a BluRay drive, nor even output 1080p. Nintendo has been all about getting a system to market at a price that people can deal with. Putting in BluRay and 1080p (which isn't just a resolution, but a requirement of the processor and GPU and, more importantly, of the developers, who already complain that developing for HD consoles is too expensive). The Wii2 will output 720p tops and I suspect it will have internal flash memory, no hard drive, and no DVD drive even. Games will be purchased over the internet and will stream to the console, rather then being downloaded and stored in entirety. I don't mean streaming like video streaming, rather the code will stream to the console as you play it, so the games can seem to load quickly. In reality the code is being streamed to the console in the background as you play.

Ok, I realize this sounds a bit far fetched, but I do think it's feasible and it would completely eliminate piracy since there is nothing to pirate. You license games and your license is checked each time your run the game. It requires high-speed internet, but that's pretty universal now. Odds are, too, that it will keep recent games stowed on the console so they don't have to be loaded every time.

Ok, that's my wild idea, anyway.

Re: Review: Toribash (WiiWare)

Crunchewy

I sure am glad I downloaded the Mac versions instead of buying the Wii version. This is another great example of why the Wii so desperately needs download game demos, and universally. The Mac versions I tried for 15 to 20 minutes then put in the trash can and emptied it. I'm sure this game appeals to some, but it doesn't even remotely appeal to me. Please, Nintendo, give us demos for all download games, WiiWare and DSiWare. Sure, you will lose some sales, but you'll also have customers that are happier about their purchases and who will end up buying more games as a result.

Re: Review: Toribash (WiiWare)

Crunchewy

I had presumed that the "PC" version was Windows only, but FYI, there is a Mac version too. So that puts me into the category of folks who think it's odd that this game was released on WiiWare at all. I guess if your only computers are Linux systems it might make sense, though.
