@nhSnork Ah, if you're sticking with the original 155 million PS2 total sales number, then yes it's very possible (and downright likely) for this next quarter. Though I was going with their (suspiciously) revised 160 million number. Honestly, if Nintendo doesn't discontinue the system anytime soon, it could be possible in the next couple of years... maybe.
@nhSnork Nintendo Life made a calculation mistake here, as lifetime Switch sales including this past quarter went from 153.1 million units to 154.01 million units presently, meaning it sold 910,000 units during the last quarter (which is honestly still impressive).
The next quarter will absolutely have the Switch surpass the DS (154.02 million) as Nintendo's best selling system ever... but can it surpass the PS2?
I'll be the first to point out how overused exclamation points are, but I absolutely love how there's not a single one in this game's official description. It's like the writer couldn't even be bothered to feign excitement for what they knew to be a turd of a game:
The adventures of Super marioner continue. This time with 3D design. sigh Travel through the jungle with marioner. ...... Jump between platforms. yaaaaawwwwn Try not to fall in this endless speeding adventure. You have 3 rights. Try to make the highest record. zzzzzzz
"I said before that I would have loved to see Luke take out a few AT ATs in a blaze of anime BS. I fully admit I would have loved it. But stopping what is essential a bullet is not the same as stopping 200 tank shells."
But with Luke being strong enough to use a Force-projection ability (which I guess he actually wasn't, seeing as how it killed him), who's to say he couldn't stop/deflect that many shots at once, and maybe at the cost of his own life if he was going to die anyway? He wouldn't necessarily need to kill everyone either, maybe just take out a leg on each walker to cripple them.
"As for the cave, they followed the crystal fox to a rock pile."
Yes, but only after C-3PO conveniently says that there NOW may be a way out after all. I just found it contrived.
"Anyway, you're not wrong that TLJ has many issues, but to me the themes it explores and journey it puts the characters through are interesting enough to me that I can look past the faults. This video sums up my feelings pretty well. It's 20 mins long and I don't really expect you to watch it. But it's here if you are interested:"
I guess we're just opposites there, as I found its faults too numerous and blatant to overlook to try to enjoy any deeper meaning in the film. I mean, when I'm watching a film, I don't mind the occasional head-scratching moment of "Wait, why did they do that?" or "That didn't make sense in the established canon/lore" or "How did they get there so quickly?" or "Hey, if they can do THAT now, then shouldn't they have already been doing that in past films?!" but when ALL of those issues pop up repeatedly over the course of (a needlessly long) two and half hours, I simply can't see it as anything other than a poorly-written film. If it wants to be artsy, fine. But it still has to make sense.
I did head to the video you linked with the intention to watch it, but the creator's own disclaimer in the comments has put me off doing so, as it's essentially saying that it's going to ignore the issues I had with the film:
"I think it's important to point out that this essay is a film interpretation analysis rather than a film comprehension one. Therefore, plotholes, sloppy writing, tonal issues etc aren't addressed because they wouldn't be relevant to the analytical discipline I'm following."
Which is totally fair, it's their video and analysis, and they can do whatever they want with it. But I really don't think it'll be my cup of tea.
@Yorumi " He never told them there was another way out. For all he knew they'd just sit and watch him from the sidelines and his whole stunt would be for nothing."
This x 100. Why in the world didn't Luke say something like "Guys, I'm not actually here right now, but Force-projecting myself in. I'm hoping via distraction that I can buy enough time for you all to escape, but I doubt I can hold this for longer than ten minutes or so, the strain is unbearable. Start looking for a way out right now. GO."
The obvious answer for that is "Well obviously he didn't say that because then there wouldn't be any tension for the viewing audience, silly," but even when ignoring that ridiculous "reason", there was no reason that they couldn't have shown this scene as a quick flashback after escaping. Instead, Luke follows Holdo's bizarre method of refusing to discuss plans, and just sort of HOPES that everyone will figure out what he's doing and save themselves.
Only adding to the incredulity of this scene is the fact that, not that earlier at all, BB-8 scanned the cave and confirmed that there was no way out, apart from through the blast door. This was done because Rian Johnson wanted there to be tension. But then after Luke shows up, a re-scan very conveniently shows that oh, looks like there may be a back exit after all! Silly us!
"If he had been there physically, he would have been vaporized by the AT AT blasts, and the Resistance would not have had time to get away."
We don't know that, who's to say he's not powerful enough to stop the blasts mid-air, like Kylo Ren did? (especially if he has the strength to tele-Skype himself there across the galaxy) The First Order is fearful of Luke's power and is hunting him down for a reason, after all. This sums it up well, particularly the final scene:
Honestly, I really wanted to like this movie, but there were so many little things that piled up that it absolutely suffers from death from a thousand cuts.
Take a look here to see the Wii-exclusive Virtual Console games (note that since the video's release, the total amount has dropped from 224 to 216, as several TG16 games were added to the Wii U's VC):
@Dazza Er, ok, after playing a bit more just now and getting 3 more silvers (for a total of 23 medals altogether: 11 gold 12 silver) Mean Bean Machine unlocked. I don't know.
@Dazza "We assume a mixture of silver and gold medals will unlock the Mean Bean mode so long as you manage to grab 20 medals."
Annoyingly, I can confirm that this is NOT the case; I just obtained my 20th medal (composed of 11 gold and 9 silver) and no Bean Machine. It seems you really do have to obtain 20 silver. Can't help but wonder if the only exception would be if you ONLY obtain gold medals (meaning, once you have all 36 medal slots filled in with gold, having never grabbed a single silver, would that automatically unlock it?)
Anyway, it's pretty bloody frustrating that I apparently have to "git bad" to unlock something in a video game >_<
@SpykeKat @allav866 Actually, hitting "select" on the file screen triggers an easy mode, not a hard one. Sure wish there was a hard mode, though (but ideally not as hard as the downright vicious difficulty spike that accompanied Wario's Castle, brrr).

@leo13 You never know, it could see a re-release soon! Making it available again for the 30th anniversary makes sense, especially since it was simply called "Anniversary Edition" not "25th Anniversary Edition". Leaving off the number in the official title of the game gives it a good chance (in my humble opinion) of seeing re-releases on subsequent anniversaries. February 21st is the official start of the 30th anniversary of Zelda, too.... looks around eshop Nothin' yet
Pretty awesome that Nintendo went the extra mile here. I'll be sticking with my portable GBA copy and official cards (including power-ups that can be used freely in any level; feathers ftw!), but this is great for everyone else.
Bummer. Well, at least this time N64 games support rumble and suspend states, neither of which were available on the Wii VC's N64 games. And save states are also an obvious plus.
Funny timing with this article, as just a few weeks ago I randomly went through my DS and 3DS collections and made note of which games support download play. Well, only makes sense to post them here! The numbers in the brackets indicate the range of players that can participate with the glory of single-card download. And keep in mind that this list only includes games I actually own.
DS GAMES Arkanoid (2-4) Brain Age 2 (2-16) Elite Beat Agents (2-4) The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (2) The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (2-4) Mario Kart DS (2-8) Meteos (2-4) Metroid Prime: Hunters (2-4) Metroid Prime: Pinball (2-8) Namco Museum DS (2-4) Nanostray (2) New Super Mario Bros. (2 for sidescroller, 2-4 for minigames) Sonic Rush (2) Super Mario 64 DS (2-4) Star Fox Command (2-6) Tetris DS (2-10)
3DS GAMES The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (3) Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (2-4) Star Fox 64 3D (2-4) Steel Diver (2) Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (2)
3DS VC GAMES Balloon Fight (2) Ice Climber (2) Yoshi (2)
@BenBertoli Thanks for posting the coordinates; I doubt I'll ever get to head over there, but it was cool to at least check out the building via Google Streetview
@Spartacus3765: "oh, some expansion on the virtual console news front; where's the N64 games on the Wii U eshop (not the silly Wii shop - that doesn't count) you promised like 2 years ago? The DS games as well? I'm tired of them bringing up things and not fulfilling those ambitions. Are we just supposed to forget that they brought them up?"
Honestly? Yes. Upon taking a look at the list of virtual console games released (in North America) for the first two years of both the Wii and Wii U, the Wii sat at about 270 games (15 of which were N64 games) and the Wii U at about 130 games (with ZERO N64 games).
The Wii U has less than half of the VC games of its predecessor in the same amount of time, with not a single N64 game in sight, despite Nintendo's assurances that they were on the way. My guess is that, with the Wii U selling significantly less consoles than the Wii, Nintendo completely reordered their priorities some time ago, and the Wii U's virtual console service was put on the backburner. Which makes sense, really. Why bother spending time and resources on a service that barely anyone is using? (or at least, not nearly as many as there were on the previous Nintendo system)
One last depressing piece of news here is that those 15 N64 VC games that were released during the first two years of the Wii's life were only followed up by a mere six more N64 games in the following three years before the N64 VC games dried up completely. Meaning, if we're already two years into the Wii U's life and have received NO N64 games, it's looking doubtful that we ever will see any before Nintendo's next console is out.
I can only assume that DS VC games have recently been put into a similar "backburner" spot, despite a game already being released for it (in Europe and Japan, at least).
Now watch the Direct tomorrow reveal upcoming VC releases for both the N64 and DS, and make this post of mine worthless
@StephenYap3 Contrary to popular belief (and I'm guessing the reviewer doesn't know this either), getting the colored Yoshis in normal stages in this version of SMW is NOT random, but instead reflects the power-up you currently have. After initially unlocking the coloured Yoshis, Fire Mario will always get a red Yoshi from an egg, Cape Mario will hatch a blue Yoshi, and small/Super Mario gets green or yellow Yoshis (IIRC, this is the only random component).
@TeeJay I admit it's been a few years since I last played it, but I'm almost positive that, once Link was told of when and where he needed to be in a certain location to help a certain character, that character's "yellow bar" entry in the notebook would have a "!" mark on it, and when you'd put the cursor on that mark, it would remind you of the location you'd need to go to at that time. After successfully completing the objective, a red little ribbon would take the place of the exclamation mark, and the description would change to a summary of how you helped that person.
