Re: Reaction: Nintendo's Steady Start in Retail Downloads

Chunky_Droid

@Hyperstar96: Perhaps you should do some homework, the Australian dollar is worth more than the American dollar, there's currently a government investigation going on in Australia as to why software costs so much.

Since the Global Financial Crisis, the American economy has gone almost down the toilet compared to how well the Australian government handled it.

Re: Iwata: Nintendo Won't Deceive With DLC

Chunky_Droid

"However, if you do that I believe customers will have no motivation to go out and buy the retail package to begin with."

  • THIS... this is especially true for just about every game that comes out with a GOTY or special edition 5 months later at the same price with ALL DLC AVAILABLE, nothing worse!

However, if no special edition down the track, DLC that adds something extra down the track if you want it, but isn't necessary to the experience = fine

Paying 2 bucks so that John Marsten can ride a black horse or wear a scarf = stupid

Re: Interview: Two Tribes - Toki Tori 2

Chunky_Droid

I've never really toyed around with level editors, not even in Little Big Planet, but I know it appeals to a lot of people so I hope they can sort it out for the Wii U version, I'm getting sick of all my Steam friends brag about their service.....

Re: Feature: DS Games We Want on Wii U

Chunky_Droid

Hmm, hard to pinpoint just one if I had to choose....

Some DS games wouldn't work all that well, or just lose the point entirely, like Picross or CrossworDS, so I'll go with a Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days/re:Coded update with analog control

Re: eShop Sees Turnaround For Nintendo's Digital Services

Chunky_Droid

Almost the same article?

Anyway, it's positive that devs are seeing good things in the eShop for Nintendo, in saying that, this article points at some of the more successful devs for WiiWare. I'd like to think that the 3DS will get a firmware update once the WiiU comes out,and everything is tied to Club Nintendo and/or your Mii or something like that, that's the only real thing they need to do to catch up.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Chunky_Droid

I couldn't see a NSMB game not get at least a halfway decent budget, the amount of money they're seemingly throwing into its marketing bests most AAA titles.

I can list about 10 3DS games that came out in the last year that aren't AAA that cost this much retail.

The argument I don't get however, and it's not just from you, is since when did we price games on how good they are?

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Chunky_Droid

@19Robb9: No, but it would give him substantial backup in what he's saying, it's how most (if not all) Universities work, reading up on established professional's ideas, seeing what works for ourselves, and coming to our own conclusions, ChoSaw's been there and done that, that's all, while I agree his posts are condescending, I can't say he's wrong in what he's saying.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

Chunky_Droid

I don't know why everyone's surprised, half the retail games on PSN cost more than what retailers are doing, because 90% of the time the RRP hasn't officially gone down.

And I know Waltz (ChoSaw) is angering a lot of you, but what he's saying is right, Nintendo would do bad for business if they set the recommended retail price, then sold it for less on their own store, I'm sure that many retailers have enough trouble dealing with losing sales from the digital market.

@19Robb92 said:
"Economic and Marketing theory", great source there buddy. lol

If you can find a book about "Economic and Marketing Cold Facts That Will Never Change" I'd like a copy please. Our entire world is made up of theory, things we know today will be disproven and dramatically changed tomorrow, it's the jobs of analysts, scientists, accountants, all kinds of professionals to constantly question the world, and change and shape it to be better. So in short, yeah, a 'Marketing and Economic Theory' book would be the way to go.

Re: Feature: Our Favourite Super Mario Games

Chunky_Droid

Surprised that there is so much Sunshine love here! Good to see! While it's not my favourite Mario title, I did give it a 9 out of 10 during Mario Month a couple of years back, it was in my opinion just the lack of variety in stages and terrible cutscenes that held it back!

BTW: I chose Mario 64 as my favourite title, while I loved the original three Mario games on the NES, and World on SNES was fantastic, Mario 64 was the first one that told me I was going to be a gamer for life.

Re: Turok Developer Wants To See N64 Versions On Virtual Console

Chunky_Droid

If they decided to fix the fog issues of the second game I'm all ears!

I agree with Bass though, support for the VC in general would be nice.

'Tracy also elaborates on the development of the N64 Turok titles, and admits that Turok 2's multiplayer mode was influenced by the success of Rare's Goldeneye 007.' - I would imagine the missions you had to complete in the single player campaign was also based on Goldeneye's success.

Re: Talking Point: 3DS eShop Deserves Big Franchises

Chunky_Droid

I enjoyed both Tingle games on the DS, they were hard to get, so it wouldn't be a stretch for Nintendo to experiment by adding some hard-to-get DS games onto the eShop.

Also, experiments with old franchises would be vastly welcome for both the WiiU and 3DS, especially for things like Ice Climbers and Mach Rider.

They've shown that they can be awesome with old franchises in the past, Excitebike is a classic example.

Re: Feature: Crazy Nintendo Crossovers We'd Like to See

Chunky_Droid

Also for the record, I have played Nobunaga's Ambition also, loved it, I love Pokemon too, also love any kind of tactics game, I also love this game, why? Because it's something my children are playing also, and my son is developing an interest for the more advanced titles now.

Re: Feature: Crazy Nintendo Crossovers We'd Like to See

Chunky_Droid

"I've got legitimate cause to complain."

Sure, because you expected it to be more than something that the developers obviously had planned for it.

If it were a Final Fantasy Tactics/Nobunaga's Ambition title, I'd expect it to be a lot more hardcore. When it's a Nobunaga's Ambition title with Pokemon slapped into it, which appeals to children, I fail to see why you would expect something more from it.

Also, I guess you see Street Fighter X Tekken to be a failure because it's first and foremost a Street Fighter game, much like you'll see Tekken X Street Fighter to be a failure because it's a Tekken game?

Re: Feature: Crazy Nintendo Crossovers We'd Like to See

Chunky_Droid

"it turned out brilliantly"?Uh, no. Pokemon Conquest might have done the Pokemon bit ok, but it was an insult to fans of Nobunaga's Ambition. So, as a crossover, it failed miserably.

Seriously, Waltz, get over it, I don't know anyone else that hated this game as much as you. You do know it's firstly a Pokemon game, and secondly a Nobunaga's Ambition game? That's why they named it Pokemon Conquest, not Nobunaga's Catch 'em All....

Think of it as a title that can actually get more people into games like Nobunaga's Ambition, a lite game as it were, I seriously scratch my head as to why you'd expect it to be any more than that.

Re: Reaction: Age Ratings and Video Games

Chunky_Droid

@SomeBitTripFan: In all honesty, laws like this are in place so that lazy parents have noone else to blame but themselves when it comes to children playing mature content that they probably shouldn't be doing.

The amount of parents I heard talk about how bad the South Park movie was for kids kind of exemplifies the point that there are many parents not screening what their children are watching (considering the movie blatantly targets those very same lazy parents!)

Re: Reaction: Age Ratings and Video Games

Chunky_Droid

@BenAV: It was used for video games too, this was the standard on just about anything pre-Wii, the colourful scheme was only introduced in 2006, when the OFLC was dissolved and all responsibilities transferred to the Attorney-General's office and the Classification Board of Australia

Re: Reaction: Age Ratings and Video Games

Chunky_Droid

Hmm, perhaps it was changed at some point, mustn't have paid too much attention over the years, I used to borrow Mortal Kombat on the SNES from the video shop when I was little, and only last week I saw an 8 year old pre-order Black Ops II from my local EB.

But yeah, I'm gonna have to look at my games when I get home, I always thought it was called M15+, then the separate MA15+, but I'm probably wrong!

Re: Reaction: Age Ratings and Video Games

Chunky_Droid

@BenAV: I know M isn't age restricted in Australia, and no outlet I am aware of bothers restricting MA15+ from children either, making it rather redundant.

I didn't actually say it was age restricted though just that certain M15+ games I let my kids play because I personally don't find them to be all that bad.

Skyward Sword isn't even in the same maturity league as CoD, which is why I'm thankful for the R18

Re: Reaction: Age Ratings and Video Games

Chunky_Droid

I'm a huge advocate for ratings systems, going so far as to join any pro-R18+ movements in Australia.

We finally got an R18+ in Australia, becoming the last developed country in the world to receive it.

I often speak out in university lectures about this issue, as a lot of our lecturers see video games as CoD, GTA etc being the absolute norm for everyone to play, and that they should be banned altogether.

It's an issue for each individual family, I like that PEGI have stepped in and made it illegal for children to buy games made for older audiences, if the parents are ok with it, there's nothing stopping them from buying it for the child.

As for my family, I don't like my children playing games based around graphic violence (GTA or Mortal Kombat for example) or set in realistic war settings (like Call of Duty or Battlefield). I do however let my kids play games like Skyward Sword (which is rated M15+ here) and Monster Hunter Tri, as there's no real connection to our actual surrounds, and in my opinion, come across reasonably tame actually.

Re: Michael Pachter Doubts 3DS XL's Powers of Revival

Chunky_Droid

I like the idea of the 3DSXL because it still fits in an average adults pocket (adults seem to be the target audience) and I like the idea of the 1:1 pixel ratio of playing original DS games, which the 3DS does not do (unless you hold select when starting it up, then you get a tiny screen that's nigh impossible to play half the games with).

I do not like the iPad, but mostly because I own no Apple products, and there's nothing on the tablet that really catches my eye.

I do however own a Samsung slate that runs Windows 7, purely because I can run Office on it, and still play all my PC games with it (Warcraft 1-3 play amazingly well as touch screen games!). I know a lot of people own iPads, but I have to assume a lot of them also own other Apple products, otherwise I can't see its worth to be honest.
