Re: Terra Incognita Could Come To The Wii U If Kickstarter Goal Is Reached

C7_

I always get suspicious of kickstarter projects for games with incredibly low starting goals. Even small games aren't cheap to make, and I'm not trying to call it a scam or something it's just that I can't see someone making a truly successfully game out of £500 ($750).
That's not even going to cover 1 employee for even a month; how in the world are they going to make this as good as they hoped?

Re: PETA Starts "Whaling" About Assassin's Creed IV's Animal Cruelty

C7_

PETAs a hypocritical joke of an organization that attacks popular culture for killing fake animals while killing 89.2% of all animals it took in last year.

They do this ridiculous attack on popular gaming for attention and to rile people up, like when they attacked Mario and Pokemon with flash games that made them look like a bunch of tasteless 5-year-olds that completely misunderstood the issue. Granted, a paragraph statement like this is much better than their efforts previously, but they're still under the impression that if a gamer goes in a video game and plays a whaling minigame, they will immediately buy a pirate ship and try it in real life.

Whaling is a part of history, and Assassin's creed takes place during historical time periods. Don't encourage PETA's silly ad campaigns with your attention.

Re: Nintendo to Show a Lot of Unreleased Games at the SXSW Gaming Expo

C7_

@MasterWario
Agreed; I've been waiting for Pikmin 3 for years and it was supposed to be a launch title, then a launch window title, and now it's an incredibly vague date range.

It was their big opening announcement at E3 last year, why do we have nothing but a demo, a trailer with footage taken from the same demo, and a trailer that shows how shiny it is but nothing about gameplay?

Really hope they show off new things there.

Re: Crytek CEO: "The Notion Of A Single Player Experience Has To Go Away"

C7_

Lotta crazy talk coming from big developers now. Are you telling me that heavily immersive single-player experiences should have random tweets on screen like "LOL THERE'S A LONG CUTSCENE COMING UP" or your friend randomly join your game and start doing naughty things to ragdolls and fooling around for 2 hours?

This is nonsense, and this isn't just Yerli's opinion and therefore should be given credit; it's flat out wrong. There are some games where a connected single-player game would work and some that it would completely kill. Most horror game like amnesia are an easy point for this.

That's like saying you should put microtransactions in every one of your products regardless of if it works or not- OH RIGHT, THANKS EA.

Re: Nintendo Gives US Government Recommendations on Tackling Piracy Abroad

C7_

Piracy's always a sticky subject isn't it?

Yet we've proven repeatedly that the US government has no clue about this industry because it's stuck at least half-a-century in the past, and every single anti-piracy law they've come up with is absolute garbage that destroys small indie companies and helps big corporations, while taking away rights from people and catering to lobbyists.

Gabe Newell had a pretty good take on this. Something along the lines of if you want to stop piracy, offer a better product than the pirate. It's why steam's such a massive hit. There's absolutely no excuse to pirate things, but the game's industry has to realize that you can't stop pirates with crippling DRM or asking a government that doesn't understand the situation, but by coming out with systems that people want to use. Steam has crazy sales regularly, as well as a very good community system and accessibility to publishers to make users want to have their games on it. Why don't you take a hint from them Nintendo?

Re: Talking Point: The Slippery Slope of Micro-Transactions

C7_

Microtransactions may be a slippery-slope, but a lot of it actually comes down to common sense. A single player game should not feature grindy mechanics to encourage the player to purchase the items; if they grind it wastes their time, and if they buy they waste both their money and potentially ruin the satisfaction of earning it.

Level packs and the like are fine as long as they weren't developed in the original game's development time, but microtransactions don't really fit into a paid game. When I put an initial purchase on a game, I expect all of the content to be in the game. If I'm immediately greeted with a store, I cringe, write a complaint, and return it. Microtransactions only have a place in F2P games, and anywhere else is just greedy money-grabbing rubbish that should be slammed down wherever it pops up.

Re: Nintendo Facing Lawsuit Over 3D Technology On The 3DS

C7_

Patent trolls patenting something that they never used themselves so that if a future company does they can sue. The same thing happened with the Joystick on Gamecube $ classic controllers and other such stuff, Nintendo will win it and if this guy believed in this idea so much, why didn't he do anything with it for 8-10 years?

Re: 3DS Stays on Top in Japan, but Wii U Falls Behind Vita

C7_

Well that's what happens when all your exciting titles get delayed and you have a several month drought of games for your console.

Sales will probably pick up once more games come out for the thing, but in the meantime it's gonna sell terribly because there's no reason to buy it if you haven't bought it at launch.

Re: Review: Yoshi (3DS eShop / NES)

C7_

Holy crap, they finally did wireless play in the overlay!
I don't care if it's just an alright puzzler; THAT's a step in the right direction!
Of course I'm an ambassador so i already had it but still, hopefully they'll figure out online play in the overlay, and maybe high scores like they should've done with Balloon Fight.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo DS Lite

C7_

I wouldn't be so quick to praise it; while it was sleeker and much easier to carry, it had a huge problem with the hinge. I've heard tons of people (including someone I know personally and myself) who had the hinge crack before it eventually just broke off and had to send it in to be fixed. In fact, I almost sent mine in twice, and if the DSi hadn't just come out I would've because the other hinge nearly broke.
Sure, the screens were better and the design was delicious, but it was definitely not one of Nintendo's strongest consoles, which is a big problem when you're expected to carry it everywhere.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Not Satisfied With Wii U Sales

C7_

@Bankai
It's Nintendo's fault third-parties are backing out?
Hardly, they've announced Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda HD, Windwaker HD, Pikmin 3, Smash Bros, and are working for a better virtual console as well as more content for the eshop. I'm surprised they've announced so much at once actually; feels like they were expecting more people to support it.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Not Satisfied With Wii U Sales

C7_

Well MAYBE if you put your CONSOLE SHIPPING TITLES out ON TIME rather than SCREWING OVER THE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THE CONSOLE TO PLAY YOUR GAMES, AKA YOUR FANS, people might actually BUY MORE OF IT.

The cycle of "I'm not releasing exclusives because there isn't a big enough install base because there aren't enough exclusives" is only stopped when you stop being incredibly stupid about it, Ubisoft.

Re: Talking Point: Sony's PlayStation 4 Poses a Fresh Challenge for Wii U in the 2013 Holidays

C7_

Notice they announced all these new things, but left out the price because they want to make sure they can't lower it before saying a number (Nintendo did this with the WiiU as well). By holiday 2013, Wiiu will have significantly more titles, which means if the PS4 isn't directly backwards compatible and comparible in price to the WiiU then it'll fall right on its face for its first couple years.

They do know what they're doing with their online though; something that Nintendo doesn't understand in the slightest. Although the wat they advertised Vita compatibility means that they're banking on the Vita to help sell, which isn't a solid move.

Pretty much they didn't announce anything controversial in the Sony conference, so main factors lile price, the look of the console, backwards compatibility, and the ability to turn off certain online features (downloading games we haven't bought yet? Seriously?) will be what determines the console's success on release.

Re: Surprise Ubisoft Sale Arrives on Wii U eShop in North America

C7_

"Let's delay a heavily marketed and console-selling game that was ready to release for over half a year, and then when the fans get angry, split off a part of the game, call it 'exclusive' and put our existing mostly shovelware (excluding the port and ZombiU) games on a mediocre sale that will in turn give us more money"

Hey Ubisoft. Try releasing Rayman Legends on time, because I've already told everyone I know personally the situation with the delay and they aren't even going to buy it if it released for $10 because they don't support this crap, and the only way your getting me to buy any of your future products is if you stop being greedy idiots. This isn't an apology; it's a cash grab. Steam has better sales than this for no reason other than to have sales; these prices are a joke.
I honestly wish I had more ways of protesting this nonsense than just saying "You're not getting my wallet"

Re: Nintendo 3DS Direct Bringing the Love on 14th February

C7_

I'm expecting release dates for upcoming titles and nothing else.
I didn't say hoping for intentionally, because the fact that we still don't have release dates for all of those "launch window" titles is a joke and it's no wonder the WiiU isn't getting much attention.

Re: Rayman Legends Boss and Dev Team Protest Wii U Release Delay

C7_

@tddct89
I'm on the same page as you are; I also bought a WiiU on launch because I thought by now I would be playing or very close to playing quite a few good titles like this.

However, a boycott only works when you don't buy a game at all, not whether or not you directly give the publisher money.

In fact this just gives them fuel against the used game market and tells them that you're still willing to accept their practices if the product they exploit is good enough. It's somewhat comparable to piracy, as it says more about the consumer's willingness to pay rather than the company's shameful behavior.

That being said, I would also shell out cash if they moved the date back to march, which they should seeing as their own employees dissaprove of this crud.

Re: Nintendo Receives Zero BAFTA Game Awards Nominations

C7_

I'm still curious how many times Minecraft will win a yearly award in years that it didn't originally come out in.
Like it won "game of the year" for its alpha, beta, "release", and its XBOX versions which is the same thing but less than the PC. Yes it's good, but if every other game that gets a port or re-release doesn't get this kind of nonsense attention.

And on that note, there are no Video game awards ceremonies that anyone can take seriously. I'm actually not surprised that the 3DS didn't have anything; a bit with Nintendoland because all of that stuff was really cool and unique, but these ceremonies imply that whoever's playing them has in fact played and beaten every game up for consideration and ignores all personal bias. This is something that just doesn't happen in games; it's too long and nobody gets paid for it.

Re: Bayonetta 2 And The Wonderful 101 To Stay Wii U Exclusive

C7_

I like how they were asked enough to get a response because of the legends ordeal. Again, I don't think the problem is exclusivity, it's that it was a really solid-looking launch window title due next month that now the people who were excited for it and put money down have to wait another half a year for it to none of their benefit. If they released the WiiU version on time and then released ports on other consoles, none of this controversy would've happened. Now it's just a blatant cash grab.

Re: Wii U To Get An "Exclusive" Rayman Legends Demo Soon

C7_

Oh good. I was under the impression that I would be playing the full game next month, but a demo totally makes up for the fact that it's delayed for over half a year to no benefit to the people who actually were ready to purchase the game.

Re: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Comparisons Are Favourable for Wii U

C7_

Too bad it's riddled with glitches, such as Alex Kidd derping out for entire races when he's a computer and one his mods being unavailable, as well as some stickers not correctly keeping track of things they're supposed to.

Though despite my nonsense nitpicking, I have enjoyed this significantly more than Mario Kart so I've actually recommended this one to friends.

Re: Reaction: The Rayman Legends Delay Is a Low Blow, But The Apocalypse Isn't Here

C7_

The only problem I have with this whole shenanigan is that they're delaying the WiiU version so it comes out at the same time. They call it a simple truth, but honestly if you feel the NEED to wait for other console versions, doesn't that just show a lack of faith in your product? Not to mention this was one of Nintendo's key launch-lineup titles that bragged about WiiU-specific functionality, announcing this so close to release just seems like low kick to anyone who actually bought the system for games like this (I actually calculate the price vs. the games line-up and only buy consoles when the number of games I want hits a price relative to the console)

I was going to preorder this, but now I'm thinking I may not end up buying it at all. I wanted a unique experience that you could only have on a WiiU because of the touchpad; if you can easily port it to other consoles then isn't it just another platformer with a gimmick that apparently it didn't need for the WiiU?

Re: U.S. Download Sales Increase, But Physical Games Drop in Popularity

C7_

I'm somewhat of a collector so I don't really buy things digitally if I have a choice, however I definitely like the benefits of online.
If they made online games prices cheaper instead of making it identical to the boxed version though, I would probably make the switch, if only to bypass gamestop's terrible "look it's a new game, $5 extra please" policy. Also, purchases being bound to consoles and not accounts is pretty stupid too.

Re: LEGO City: Undercover Trailer Brings More Crazy

C7_

Why is this game the best advertised on the WiiU? I've never even considered buying a lego game but now I'm actually looking forward to this.

In fact this game is better advertised than the WiiU itself. Geez Nintendo, this is looking like more a system seller than Pikmin 3 was supposed to be at E3, what with what little information we're getting on that.

Re: Nintendo Hints At An Additional Platform In The Future

C7_

Not quite sure what they're planning; this hasn't exactly been tried before and they have all their bases covered outside of PC's and phones. I'm very much skeptical about this, I think they should be putting more efforts into making their online acceptable by today's standards and making more system-selling software.

And what is this nonsense that they've done this before and failed? Of course the GBA died after th DS was released; the DS was the improvement and next-step, not an alternative. Same thing with the DS to 3DS; any games being developed for the older one are either leftover projects from before the newer console or the developer is not goin to move to the newer one until it has a bigger installed base. That's why all recent consoles have backwards compatibility.

Re: Review: Babel Rising (WiiWare)

C7_

To all of those people that are offended:

They took a story that was familiar to them and juiced it for the sake of creating a theme for a game. I highly doubt their intention was to enrage the masses, nor was it for the sake of simply disrespecting something hundreds of people hold dear. It was to create a setting for which the game made sense, or better yet they saw the story and decided that they could make an interesting gameplay mechanic.
Essentially, they tried to create a game out of a culture; an idea which has been executed well in the past.

So please, quit taking personal offense to this and view it what it is: a bad game that used its source material in poor taste.

Re: Wii U Price Cut Isn't in Nintendo's Plans

C7_

It's priced completely fine, and if they get in the habit of price cutting things shortly after release they'll actually do worse in the long run because people will start to think that everything will get this massive price cut and wait.

What they really need to do is identify things that the WiiU can do that a Wii is known for being bad at, because I've met a lot of people who think it's just another Wii peripheral. You know, things like really good online (Nothing so far) and encouraging third-party developers to port to the WiiU and not hide behind the excuse of "We like it, but we can't think of a use for the gamepad so forget it."

I know games will eventually sell it as well, but they really need unique titles that aren't obvious. Every already knew there was going to be another 3D mario, mario kart, zelda, and smash bros., how about some original ip get the spotlight? Also, release dates are fantastic, they should try RELEASING SOME FOR TITLES ANNOUNCED YEARS AGO THAT ARE SUPPOSEDLY COMING SOON.

Re: Don't Worry, There's A Cavalcade Of Fan-Favorite Wii U and 3DS Games Incoming

C7_

Still waiting for dates on Pikmin 3 and Animal Crossing Nintendo.
I mean seriously I've been excited for Animal crossing since the first trailer and Pikmin 3 since Miyamoto first said the Wii would work well with the Pikmin franchise in 2007. And here we are, 5 1/2 years later knowing very little of the game besides "HD, 2 new Pikmin, comes out sometime this year"

I just want to give you my money but your recent shenanigans with VC and the lack of these games are making it very difficult to do that.

Re: Feature: Reimagining The Wind Waker on Wii U

C7_

High hopes, low expectations.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for any new content, especially considering the N64 to 3DS ports of OoT and Starfox barely added anything and the way they're handling WiiU and 3DS VC.

Though I would love to see them flesh out Jabun's story. I didn't realize they just flat out cut his dungeon when I first played, but considering the attention the other two got, I always found it weird how he appears once yet seems to have a ton of importance.

Re: You Can't Use Your Wii Virtual Console Saves With the Wii U Virtual Console

C7_

Whelp, not spending a single cent on transferring to WiiU VC now.

Thank you Nintendo, for just not caring.

Edit: and for all the people saying "What's so hard about Wii Mode?" it turns your WiiU into a Wii, which means no gamepad convenience, no Miiverse, and no remappable buttons, which are essentially system selling points for the WiiU. Also longer loading times and necessary wiimote navigation, which if you're like me and use your TV as a monitor, is a pain when you're used to just being able to do things on your gamepad. Which was, I dont know, the reason I bought the system?

Re: Review: Balloon Fight (Wii U eShop / NES)

C7_

@element187 I'm not asking them to rewrite the code AT ALL
I said OVERLAY if you had read my post, something which would require nothing more than a function to check if the number obtained in the score was higher than the current number and then place it in an online leaderboard in the WiiU's interface. This would take a bit to get working but once they had a template all they would need is to make a new function for every game, which is barely any work at all since they're already re-porting everything anyway.

And no, I'm not asking they do it for free, I'm asking that my extra $1 payment for every VC game go toward something more substantial than "Oh look, we integrated Miiverse (something that takes little effort because they had a template for it already as well) and you can play it on the gamepad screen."
And no, this is not asking for too much because every other port I've seen that isn't on a Nintendo console has already done this. You look at Sega's ports of sonic games on XBLA and Sonic CD on steam? Leaderboards and online multiplayer, AS WELL AS button remapping, 3 "suspend points" and additional options as well. I'm not even asking for anything more than the industry standard at this point by saying that an updated high score game should have a decent way to compare high scores.

Re: Review: Balloon Fight (Wii U eShop / NES)

C7_

I'd play this game endlessly if they figured out what they were doing with their online. When Iwata mentioned posting high scores to Miiverse, I literally sighed. They have every opportunity to integrate a leaderboard into the overlay since they're re-doing every virtual console game to work with WiiU, and they just aren't going to do it because for some reason online games for Nintendo are just out of the question.

Re: Crystal Dynamics Explains Why Tomb Raider Isn't Coming To Wii U

C7_

"and I think something like the Wii U often asks you to do something unique based on a unique interface"

Yet ANOTHER company that uses this poor excuse. You don't have to use the gamepad if you don't want to, make it off-screen play compatible then. Or even just leave the screen black and make it compatible with the pro controller; the gamepad isn't some gimmick that you absolutely NEED to take full advantage of. So no, it wouldn't require much more than a basic port and you've certainly lost sales because of it.

This essentially boils down to "we're lazy and we see Nintendo as gimmicky and therefore don't care" which is utter crap and they need to be called out on it.

Re: Review: Ikachan (3DS eShop)

C7_

I was going to pick this up, but since this is just another lazy port by Nicalis I'm going to wait until the inevitably make another 5 versions of it that only add one more thing that people wouldn't even consider new like just swapping out the character sprite and calling it a new campaign.

Thanks for the review, now I know I can just pick up the free PC version and get the same experience.

Re: Ralph Nader Targets Violent Video Games and Their Developers

C7_

that's right, don't do any research and blame video games when it is now FACT that they are not related to these tragedies. Rather that the media turns them into some sort of anti-hero and encourages copy-cat killing for several days afterwards by NAMING THE KILLER AND FOCUSING ON THEM rather then the VICTIMS OF THESE TERRIBLE EVENTS.

How about you focus on the real problem, the mental state of the people who committed the crime? Or perhaps how someone in such a mental state got their hands on a gun capable of murdering this many innocent lives? Because if violent video games caused these sort of things, the sheer number of people who actively play these games would mean a massive school shooting everyday. And anybody with half a brain and common sense would've put enough research into it to show that actually the OPPOSITE is happening (not implying a direct relationship, but certainly ruling it out as even the SLIGHTEST possibility of relationship of the opposite) before he says something that he is incapable of understanding himself.

Re: Epic Mickey Future In Doubt After Sequel Falls Short In Sales

C7_

The first Epic Mickey was marketed with the idea that you could be mischievous without any punishment and even sported a cool mechanic that made it seem like your were in charge of entire world and could determine what they looked like. Upon delivery, it was shown to be a disjointed 3D platformer with bad camera angles, very 'eh' controls, and a system that actively rewarded you for using paint, and punished you for thinner (worse music, character drips more, people complain more etc.) On top of that the environments that were supposedly malleable were simply binary and looked terrible if you didn't use all paint or all thinner.

In short, it was marketed very well but badly executed and people aren't going to fall for it twice, ESPECIALLY if your main new selling feature is just that it's two-player. So yeah, I'm not too devastated by it and they really should've waited longer to make a sequel anyway.

Re: Club Nintendo Accounts Can't Be Linked To The Wii Shop On Wii U

C7_

Why?

This seems like the sort of thing that would be easy to fix or should've been taken care of before release.

Although I'm not going to buy anything more from the VC (at least until they get their act together and port all my games to a normal WiiU compatible mode, and if they don't do that or something similar they aren't getting another cent from me), this really just seems like poor planning. I mean it turns essentially into a Wii without gamecube stuff, why wouldn't it work with Club Nintendo if the shop is identical?

Also, if they make me go into Wii shop to get newer VC games after they do the WiiU compatibility thing they will also not be getting another cent from me. In my eyes this stuff is just standard convenience, and nothing is more inconvenient then being forced through several loading screens to have the reasons why you bought the new console turned off so that Nintendo doesn't have to spend too much time porting things correctly and then not being properly rewarded for it.

Re: GameStop Reports 320,000 Wii U Sales Since Launch

C7_

I preorder from my local gamestop, but other than that I wont go shopping there. It's a shame really; I hate going in there and being asked 5 times if I want something completely unrelated to what I'm buying, that and their stupid +$5 on games because they can. Otherwise their wide selection would have me going in there quite regularly.

Re: Iwata: Nintendo Open To "Free-To-Play" Gaming Model

C7_

F2P can be done very well, but most of the time the correct models are the ones that are counter-intuitive to a publisher's ideas, so that's why there are so many horror stories about it. We'll have to see where Nintendo goes with it.

Re: Nvidia Unveils the Daunting Project Shield

C7_

Woah woah woah, the only thing that looks awkward about this would be holding the controller still and looking at the screen from a good angle, every other part of this looks completely fine. The ability to stream PC games onto it as well as all the benefits that come with android are a definite plus, so I don't see where all this negativity is coming from.

Re: Renegade Kid Clarifies 3DS Piracy Comments

C7_

This clarification doesn't make it any less of a bad statement; Piracy is still a problem on all platforms and if this is your attitude towards a problem that can never be completely cured then you're in the wrong market. The fact is nobody knows how much piracy even does to a game, and while it IS mostly negative I highly doubt that a game that is high quality and has been marketed properly (I have never even heard of dementium) will be ruined by piracy in comparison to sales.

That's not to say I support piracy; the only legit excuse is where it's flat out impossible to get legally in your region. Every other excuse is just self-justification and wrong. If it's something to do with the game, such as the game is too glitchy or not worth the money, it's apparently worth it if you're still going to the effort of getting it illegally, and if it's a matter of not being able to afford it or not buying it anyway, you're forgetting that video games are a luxury product and you do not HAVE to play any of them. And this point is moot anyway, as there are hundreds of games you can legally get for free.
