Re: Game of the Year: You Decide!

Bassman_Q

Wii: Skyward Sword (Even though I've only played the first hour at my friend's house )
3DS: Don't have one.
DS: Okamiden (Am I the only one voting for it?)
WiiWare: escapeVektor: Chapter 1 (Best birthday gift for myself ever! )
3DSWare: See above.
DSiWare: Antipole (Had a blast with this one, though I haven't tried Mighty Milky Way or Plants vs. Zombies yet.)
Overall: Skyward Sword (Will find out the truth on Christmas Day... I'm sure I'm sticking with this choice, though.)

Re: Rumour: Official Legend of Zelda Series Timeline Revealed

Bassman_Q

Well, I don't see why the Four Swords games have an uneven split between them. Neither do I see why the Oracle games come between ALttP and LA.

And I still don't quite understand how the child/ adult timelines work. I understand that its based on the end of Ocarina of Time, where Link is sent back to the past, but if he IS sent back to the past, then why is there a separate adult timeline? What's done is done, right? Zelda DID take him back to his childhood, and so he could not have continued as an adult even if he wanted to.

Re: Mighty Switch Force Gets Release Date

Bassman_Q

Wow, only $6. If I had a 3DS, I would surely buy this day one. I think the price is to coincide with the $6 price tag of the Playstation minis version of Mighty Flip Champs, $6 being the price they probably originally wanted for each of their Mighty games.

Re: Review: Blaster Master: Enemy Below (3DS Virtual Console / Game Boy Color)

Bassman_Q

I was gonna ask if there is a save feature in the game, but I remembered that the 3DS has some sort of save state feature... right?

Anyway, if it comes to U.S. (and I actually have a 3DS when it comes out), I don't really know if I'll buy it. It sounds great, but then again I bought the first one on VC because of its high score here and I loathed it, mainly because of its high difficulty and a lack of any save feature. And while the WiiWare sequel fixed the saving issue, it was pretty lackluster because the visuals lost their charm and the feeling of exploration wasn't very exciting.

Re: Feature: Memorable Zelda Moments

Bassman_Q

I'm glad there are articles like these on NL that let me remember these fond memories.

Anyway, here are that stick out the most for me:

  • ALttP: The first time I got the hookshot, and the sidequest with the little bard and the flute.
  • LA: So many things about this game were awesome! I remember the wide variety between dungeons, the numerous sidequests and mini-dungeons in the game (especially the Darknut Castle sequence), and of course, that tender scene with Link and Marin sitting together on the shore. Ah... good times.
  • OoT: I remember that since I played this after Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, I thought this was an incredibly boring game. Until I reached the Gerudo Desert section in the game. The Spirit Temple and the boss fights within really changed my mind about the game. And of course, the ending was very well-done, specifically the very last scene where... well, it's similar to the beginning of the game.
  • MM: I recall that this game was annoyingly hard when I first played it back in 2009 after first beating OoT. However, the Deku palace portion of the game, and of course the ominous moon stuck with me.
  • WW: My first Zelda game, there were several of memorable things from this game, from the hidden submarines and treasures to the vast amount of explorable sea to the hookshot to the black & white dungeon toward the end. Which reminds me, I need to finish me replay of the game soon.
  • MC: I don't remember too much, though I remember I somehow got stuck in the first dungeon for YEARS until I picked it up again a few years ago. The sky dungeon and rather large Hyrule Town stuck in my memory.
  • TP: The colossal battles, the vast overworld, the Temple of Time, the sky-cannon-building scene, the Lost Kakariko Village with that old lady, and of course, the somber scene where Midna is injured and you have to carry her to meet Zelda.
  • PH: The great use of the touchscreen, the numerous puzzles (including the one mentioned above, which stumped me for a good number of days until I had to look it up online), and of course, the ending scene that makes you question what really happened really stick out.
  • ST: The train-riding, the numerous sidequests, the character development of that one guy with the mechanical arm, and the first time you go underwater have stuck in my memory.
  • SS: I have not played this one yet, though I imagine there will be several awesome and memorable occurrences.

Re: Review: Come On! Heroes (DSiWare)

Bassman_Q

Great review, and I absolutely agree about the music (it is horrid!). The particular track you are talking about... is it the one that plays during the screen where you level up your weapons and is nauseatingly louder than any other track? Yeah that one is especially terrible.

But all in all, it's a pretty fun game, despite its numerous shortcomings.

However, you DID fail to mention the level-capping on the weapons, making any money gained after max-leveling up all of the weapons utterly and completely useless. Plus, the Survival mode seems to not save your high-score, making it pretty much pointless to play.

As for changing weapons, there IS a shortcut: Using the D-Pad (up and down) to switch the type of arrow you want to use. I found this VERY helpful, and it explains this in the included Help Manual. Also, I don't wanna sound nit-picky here, but the magic arrows that penetrate through enemies are actually called Iron Arrows according to the manual.

Re: Nicalis Announces VVVVVV for 3DS eShop

Bassman_Q

"Previously Nicalis has teamed up with Studio Pixel (Cave Story, Ikachan), Nicklas Nygren (NightSky) and NIGORO (La-Mulana)."

I like how none of those games have seen release (technically re-release I suppose) yet except for Cave Story.

Where is my DSiWare Ikachan and WiiWare La-Mulana, Nicalis?

Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Regularly Offer Free Games for Download?

Bassman_Q

I love it when I get to buy a new pennywhistle with my spare penny.

But I think Nintendo should really take a look at what Sony's doing with their online marketplace and offer up weekly and monthly sales just like they do. There have been some occasions where I bought a game due to a sale (and positive reviews!) that I otherwise would not have.

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th October 2011 (North America)

Bassman_Q

With so much negative comments, it seems as if nobody has bothered to take a look at Horizon Riders. Looks pretty cool to me.

And just like @Mully said, I don't have money to buy games every week, so I'm kinda glad Nintendo gives us down time so we can play the games that still need beating / completion and save up for the must-haves.

Re: Nintendo Japan Unveils Ice White 3DS Console

Bassman_Q

Wow! That looks stunning to say the least. Of course, if the top weren't black but white, it would be a lot better.

I was originally intending to pick up the Flame-Red 3DS whenever I accumulated enough money, but now I think I'll go with Ice White (glad they didn't call it Snow White ) instead.

Of course, that's assuming I buy the first form of 3DS. Most likely I'll wait for the 3DS Slim to come out.

Re: Nintendo Europe Launches Japanese RPG Trio Contest

Bassman_Q

Alright so if I ever import these games from Europe, would I have to buy a European Wii as well? Or would I have to hack my Wii to un-region-lock it?

Frankly, I'm not willing to do those things just to get my hands on some top-notch RPGs. So I'll just sit back and curse NoA for being such dumb@$$es in not localizing it.

Re: Review: escapeVektor: Chapter 1 (WiiWare)

Bassman_Q

Indeed, this game is brilliant. The level design is solid, and it gives that "One more time" feeling whenever you lose a level. I'm not too fond of how the story is unraveled (only one message of text every few levels... that's not nearly enough to give me a strong sense of what's going on), though it doesn't matter too much when the game itself is such a blast.

My only question is why the review received a 9/10 when there was "nothing to complain about"?

Re: Talking Point: The Role of the N64 on the 3DS

Bassman_Q

Unless the prices of remakes go down to say... $30 instead of $40 here in the U.S., then maybe I'll support them and buy them, as long as they're worthwhile. However, I refuse to pay full price for a game that's virtually the same and without any new content. So likewise, I don't exactly support the N64-3DS remakes. I just want something new from each of their respective franchises.

Re: New Skyward Sword Character and Story Details Revealed

Bassman_Q

@BulbasaurusRex #21 - It was implied that they "got together" at the very end of Spirit Tracks, if you ever played that one. Of course, if they always "got together", it would be kind of like incest, seeing that every Link and Zelda are all descendants of the first Link and Zelda (whoever they might be as Nintendo will probably make another prequel to this game as well).

But anyway I'm kind of getting tired of all this bully-jealousy thing that they do at the beginning of a lot of the Zelda games. They did the exact same thing with OoT and the triangle between Saria, Link, and the other guy (Fido was it?). It can work if they do it once, but not twice. While I have a feeling this game will be amazing, so far the storyline just seems copied from the other Zelda entries. And that's just lazy on the writers' part.

Re: Review: Break Tactics (DSiWare)

Bassman_Q

The graphics are just too bleh for my tastes. Normally graphics don't matter too much, but with slow games like this, it's better to look at something pretty, and this game does NOT look pretty. I'll pass.

Re: Review: MotoHeroz (WiiWare)

Bassman_Q

Damn I need to buy this once I have moneys for another points card.

And so my Wishlist for WiiWare grows bigger... So far I need to buy Fluidity and EscapeVektor, and now this. Man, if only this were 1000 points...

Re: Fire Emblem Strategising Its Way to 3DS

Bassman_Q

Awesome! This may be the game that will convince to finally buy a 3DS (just like Advance Wars and Mario & Luigi convinced me to buy a DS).

But on a sidenote... Are they ever going to release localize the other Fire Emblem DS game where you get to customize your own character?

Re: Feature: Introducing escapeVektor: Chapter 1

Bassman_Q

Only 30 levels...? Well, I guess that's not bad, considering Antipole on DSiWare was only 20 levels for the same price, though it included achievements and collectibles as well. Which reminds me... are there collectibles in the game? Even if not, I'm sure this will be a Day 1 purchase for me (as long as I can rake in some cash in a matter of 2 weeks).

Re: Analogue Stick Add-On for 3DS Revealed

Bassman_Q

/me barfs. That... is an awful design.

Plus, doesn't the touchscreen AND the gyro-sensor add enough as a pseudo-joystick? I mean, FPS's on the DS didn't even have an analog stick, and they worked just fine. I don't see how camera control will be an issue on the 3DS.

Re: MotoHeroz Races to North America on 15th September

Bassman_Q

For a single 2000 point card, I could buy this and Escapevektor. However, I was already planning to buy Fluidity on my next card. This better be a must-have on WiiWare for such a high price, as several other games with large amounts of content have sold for lower prices (ie Fluidity, Cave Story, Megaman 10, etc.)
