Re: Soapbox: Super Mario Sunshine Wasn't Bad, It Was Just Ahead Of Its Time

BadBoyBule

Good point that Super Mario Sunshine scartches that sort of cleaning itch at points but I personally found many other aspects of the game lacklustre. Like the aforementioned blue coins: I groaned hard when I realized you don't need them for anything and all levels need to be completed anyway so the shines from blue coins don't substitute for anything. That, Pianta Village, Pachinko, at times clunky controls and straight up bugs often made it a chore to play, and not in a Zen way.

Re: More Sonic Origins Details Discovered, Physical Edition Hinted

I'm hyped. Especially if it's done by the folks who know what they are doing (meaning the Sonic Mania folks). For once, it sounds like they are doing something extra for a retro compilation: achievements, unlockables, widescreen support, new cinematics... I swear features like these were commonplace for retro comps before but nowadays they seem like a rarity.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Might Be The Biggest Video Game Movie Ever

BadBoyBule

Sonic 2 was good fun and had stuff that was actually related to the games and their stories... but it was also littered with stuff that felt really weird in a Sonic movie. I'm kinda happy it's doing well but I would like them to make a more focused effort next time. And I really hope Jim Carrey wants to pull off Eggman once more, he is hilarious in that role.

Re: POST VOID Is Super Rare Originals' Next Game, Coming To Switch This Spring

BadBoyBule

The game is really good fun in short bursts. Although, if it doesn't have gyro controls, I suspect it will be too hard on Switch. The game is brutal in its difficulty and requires very fast aiming.

@Fake-news Saying that the graphics are an acquired taste is an understatement. It's literally a game about a horrible headache. A true assault on senses.

Re: Team17 Is Jumping On The NFT Train With 'MetaWorms'

BadBoyBule

Even putting the shady practices and environmental issues aside, why the heck do all NFT "art" look like absolute trash? The randomly generated avatars look randomly generated in the worst way possible.

Do people really think these "generative art collections" look cool or are they embracing the laziness and absolute lack of care and consideration in their designs? I have no idea. There's the joke about screenshotting NFTs but most often why would you even want to?

Is pressing "random" on a character creation screen considered making art?

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Gets Day One Paid DLC And Digital Deluxe Edition

BadBoyBule

Unlockable extras in games seem to become extinct. Game companies would rather tease you with stuff that your 60€ purchase doesn't give you than surprise you with cool in-game extras like unlocking the Demi-Fiend in SMTV. It's their business so they can sell what they want but it just wasn't like this before. Gaming has changed so much now that games are a lot bigger projects to make and cost more to develop yet the prices of games haven't really changed. So I understand why game companies are happy to indulge in scummy microtransactions to get some extra and make it easier to break even but still day 1 DLC is just a bummer for me everytime.

At least these don't seem like something that I will be super sad about missing. I guess everyone expected Atlus to slap us in the face with their DLC at some point so here you go.

Re: Bandai Namco Is Changing Its Logo In 2022

BadBoyBule

In my opinion Namco's old logo was cool, the orange mess wasn't really.

I actually like this, it makes it a lot less cluttered. A lot of old game company logos were just the company's name written with some snazzy typography (like Namco, Sega, Nintendo, Capcom, Atlus) and this is not that different.

Re: Platinum's Switch Exclusive Astral Chain Celebrates Its Second Anniversary

BadBoyBule

I really enjoyed Astral Chain. The story was a bit meh, true, but I wasn't even expecting it to be good. That was just some short cutscenes between the action. And the action is something that can't be found in any other game. It was hugely satisfying to circle around enemies and tie them down with the Legion and then zap up close to pummel them.

Saying there isn't anything in this game beyond the combat is pretty harsh, in my opinion. For example the art direction is very stellar and all the visual flair with smooth 60fps makes this one of the most cool looking Switch games. Some of the environments look cool as hell. The soundtrack was also pretty good and the amount of content adequate for this kind of game. And there was some nice small customisation touches available to adjust the game to your liking.

Re: Loop Hero Is A Timeloop Game, Looping Its Way To Switch Later This Year

BadBoyBule

@Ooyah
Not really. The main idea of the game is rather simple: your character moves around a board on its own and you can place tiles that make character's travels easier, harder or usually both at the same time. You get to choose which tiles you use in a level but you get them by random. You also get random loot from time to time and get to choose perks for your char from time to time.

It starts straightforward but for example the third character class mixes up things a lot and you have to change your strategies to get the most out of it.

This game was amazing on PC. It fully commits to its murky DOS era aesthethics, has very cool atmospheric soundtrack (with boss themes that go hard) and gets really addicting once you get further in the game to unlock more cards.

I'm not sure if it's at its best with a gamepad but I've tried it and it works okay even like that.

In any case, I wholeheartedly recommed this.
