I upgraded immediately. I thought it was a decent deal in the first place (especially as a family plan) but now I think it's definitely worth it. However I am also a guy who has Gamepass Ultimate and both PS Plus and PS Now (soon to be Playstation Plus Premium). So maybe I just really like subscriptions that give me games.
The very first Ace Attorney game I played was Dual Destinies in 2015 as it was on sale and seemed interesting. Then I loved it so much I went crazy and played Apollo Justice immediately then played the original Trilogy. And of course I played Spirit of Justice the day it came out. I do think the first 3 games were better but I would love to play 4-6 again as I've only played them once. Playing the Great Ace Attorney games recently reminded me how amazing the series is.
I was already fine with NSO, but the Mario Kart DLC is amazing. I'm on a family plan with my wife and kids and a few other family members. We would have had to buy several $25 packs. Also I don't care about owning the DLC. I'm not a collector and just want to have access to games to play them at the moment. In a few years Mario Kart 9 will be out on the Super Switch and I won't care about ever playing Mario Kart 8 anymore. I certainly don't play old Mario Kart games now.
They are releasing these too slow. On the other hand this is one of my favorite games and probably the N64 game that holds up the best by today's standards. So I guess I'll take it.
That's fair of you. Thank you. There definitely are people like that though who just like to stir up anger. I'm all for Nintendo adding more value to this. I feel like they will add more DLC to rent, but of course they didn't announce anything. That was a mistake on them. They need to communicate better and tell us how often they are adding stuff to the service.
@SpaceboyScreams You guys sure seem to want to ruin it for everyone. Nintendo needs to fix some stuff with this plan, but it's getting way more hate than it deserves. They are over charging like $10 a year. That's not that big of a deal. If it was $10 a month I could see it. Any way the service is $45 a year more for families so 2 years is an extra $90. That's still cheaper than 6 purchases of $25. Also we also get the N64/Genesis games. So still a good deal for people like me. And yeah no on my plan is going to be playing that DLC after 2 years. They all move onto other things super fast. My 2 kids will probably move on after 3 or 4 months. They get bored fast. I super get that renting DLC isn't good for everyone. But you shouldn't act like it's bad for everyone. I can think of lots of DLC through the years I would have been happy to pay less for so I could play it once and finish it.
Nobody's missed that. However for most of us this isn't a big deal. You get to keep all the stuff you got from the island. You just don't get to go back when the subscription ends. However most of us won't really feel the need to go back then. It's much cheaper to rent the DLC for a family plan and get a year or two's enjoyment out of it. I do get that this isn't ideal for plenty of people but there are lots of people who won't care.
As someone with a family plan and 6 of those people owning Animal Crossing this is a good deal. And the fact that you are renting the DLC isn't a big deal. You get to keep all of your stuff when the subscription ends. You just don't get to go to the work island anymore. I'm quite sure I will have moved on in a year or two's time anyway on that. I think we all agree that Nintendo could do better with this expansion pack, and I hope they do. They do deserve some criticism. However I think some people are just on a vendetta to ruin it for everyone else. Just because Nintendo is probably overcharging on this subscription by about $10 a year. I mean that is the worst thing that has ever happened to anyone. Also I subscribe to many other game services (gamepass ultimate, PS Plus, PS Now, Play Pass, and Geforce Now). I don't think this is the best deal in gaming or anything but overcharging $10 a year (maybe you could argue $15) is hardly a big deal.
@victordamazio It's possible stealing isn't the most accurate word, but I feel like my point still stands. Nintendo's service, no matter how good, isn't going to compete with piracy of their intellectual property.
@Papichulo I mean yeah the service doesn't compete with stealing games. So far I'm happy with the service. I think everyone agrees Nintendo could do more. That's never really debated, but I think most of the hate is just people who like to be angry. I think a quiet majority of people are fine with this stuff. Also I feel like the ghost data stuff in Mario Kart has never worked on the Wii/Wii U versions either. But I could be wrong on that.
Yeah the upgrade thing is different than I thought. But I guess the whole plan is good until a year from today. This is definitely worth it when you have an 8 person family plan.
I actually think $60 for a remastered trilogy of popular games is a perfectly fair price. It sounds like they put a good amount of effort into these remasters as well and that deserves money. However I've never liked GTA so I won't be buying it. I feel like these games try too hard to be cool and mostly aim for a male teen audience. I can't stand stuff like that. However if you like the games it sounds like they did a good job.
@CharlieGirl That's definitely true. But to be fair not many people are going to care about this Animal Crossing DLC in a decade. I'm sure by then we will be playing a new Animal Crossing and probably still over paying for something.
@oconnoclast Yeah I agree it's a bit high for what's offered if you don't care about AC. I Guess it really depends on if they are adding more to the service in the near future. If they add more consoles and more DLC then it's great. But it doesn't say whether they are doing that or not. I'm currently signed up for almost every game service there is though so I would always be doing this.
For people like me this is great. My family has 5 switches and all of them have animal crossing. So I can pay $45 for the expansion that everyone can get and also get some N64/Sega games. Also it's possible that you will get more systems/dlc with this plan as time goes on.
@NikHogan No it's not. You have free movement, especially in the wild areas. On rails means it moves for you. Pokemon Snap on the N64 also looked really good at the time, as the developer had more control over everything. This is because the game controls where you are going and what you can see at any given time.
@NikHogan On rails games are much easier to make than most games. The other pokemon games shouldn't really be compared. Other than maybe the voice acting. Not sure how much is in Snap but gen 8 could have had at least a little voice acting.
Nintendo does do dumb stuff sometimes. Not sure if this is one of them. This is a super boring scandal and I couldn't finish reading the whole thing. Also I purchased Melee the day it came out, and it was great, but people need to move on.
While I don't really think any of this is an issue. The real complaint should be that Switch uses cartridges which cost more. Switch cartridges can go up to 64GB, which is bigger than the dual layered blu-rays the other systems use (50GB). But cartridges cost much more than blu-rays, especially the higher capacity ones. So 2K probably went for the cheaper 16GB version of the cartridge to save money that's why you need the extra storage for some of the modes. It's kind of annoying, but SD cards are cheap. You can easily get a 64GB one for under $20 and 128GB ones for about $40. Also all you need to do is pop them into the switch. You don't even have to remove the back, or unscrew anything.
Those are good points, but there are a couple of advantages to playing on Switch. One being that the switch screen is bigger than most phones, and doesn't require an internet connection like most mobile games. But the biggest draw is that this is a complete game for $10. Sure most mobile games like this are free technically. They constantly try to get you to buy powerups, and in many of the games the later levels are almost impossible without buying powerups. Also there are of course no ads in this either.
While I stopped using Miiverse earlier this year I am still sad it's going to be gone. Some of my best memories were posting screen shots with witty captions. I remember when Earthbound was released and everyone flooded miiverse with every funny moment in the game. It was a great way to share in the joy with fellow Nintendo fans. In a way I felt more connected to my friendlist people on Wii U than I've ever done on any console. I got to see what new games they were experiencing through posts and even got to communicate back. It's a shame Nintendo didn't include a revamped version for the Switch. Having friends on it almost seems pointless.
This game is really fun. As a fan of the Jack Box games this seemed like a good bet. I'd say if it was one of the included games in the party pack it would be one of the best. As a stand alone game though it's a tad overpriced ($8-$10 would have been great) but it's still worth getting.
The 3DS had the worst launch lineup in the history of the industry. It seriously launched with a Ridge Racer port, a Street Fighter IV port, Monkey Ball 3D and Pilot Wings Resort. The first interesting game it got was Ocarina of Time 3D, 3 months later. It didn't become a system worth owning for 9 months until Mario Kart 7 and Mario 3D Land. This launch is pretty terrible, but I'd have killed for a new gigantic Zelda game at the launch of the 3DS.
It's definitely not the first pictionary type game on Wii U. There was the sketchpad mini game in Game and Wario and the eShop title PictoParty. Still the inclusion of mutators and those other modes does set help set it apart.
@sWiTcHeRoO Getting a usb hard drive for the Wii U is easy enough. I've been using a 250GB drive I bought used for $15 since launch. I do agree it's dumb not to reward people who buy physical copies. I tend to prefer digital but also recently discovered the Amazon Prime pre-order discount. I suppose this will steer more people to buy digitally but getting 20% off a purchase through amazon is a better deal than getting 60 gold coins.
The title had me fooled for about 2 seconds. Calling it Legends and just the fact that it would run so awfully on the 3DS made me remember it was April 1st. Good job guys.
@gardevoir7 If you have android you can always download the apk. I've been playing Miitomo for weeks and it let me sign in my My Nintendo account. I'm already up to about 800 platinum coins. Of course the game comes out today so you could just wait.
I got to change my Miitomo game's country of residence to America and link my club Nintendo account so those weeks worth of playing were worth it. It also seems you can add Miitomo coins and platinum coins together to get Twilight Princess Picross. I currently have 750 combined coins. I can still probably get another 125 miitomo coins today So I'll just fall short.
Downloaded the APK. Seems pretty cool, other than I currently have no Miitomo friends. Seems like you can link your Nintendo account when available. So I shouldn't have to redo anything (In theory). Glad I'm an android user. Sideloading is way easier than the iOS method.
I'm 32, owned most consoles, and have played and beaten probably around 1000 games and I don't know about this "big scene" Lol. I'm probably in the minority of course, but Final Fantasy is one of the few series I've never got around to playing and I can't bring myself to play a PSX era game that I have no nostalgia for. And I haven't heard anything about any big scene until just now. But I guess I don't want it spoiled in case they ever remake it and I actually play it.
The hate is unwarranted. I hate microtransactions as much as anyone, but this game isn't that bad with them. You can play 5 turns every three hours for free which is about as long as I'd want to anyway. You can pay money to make the game a lot easier, but you definitely don't have too and I never have. The game also doesn't require you to bug the crap out of your friends to move onto new levels like certain microtransactions games do.
I love NintendoLife but there reviews are way too harsh. Gave this game a 7.5 on my site. I really agreed with a lot of the points in this review but don't think a cheap, good game deserves a 4/10.
@ZBomber I see your point. I guess it's just the fact that they never seem to like anything but Melee. Obviously it doesn't really effect me though so I should probably just ignore it.
Well I feel better about the 4.5 I gave this game on my website. I felt like I was a bit harsh but at least I wasn't the "harshest". The lack of soft drop was the biggest killer of the game.
I reviewed it on my site and gave it a bit higher. I think the fact that it constantly receives updates and is the only Wii U painting app with layers gives it a nice boost.
I reviewed it for eShop Companion last week and I gave it an 8. It's a really good game, that's just a bit too short. If you like rhythm games than it's worth getting. I did notice the one stage where the notes stop a minute before the song ends but it didn't ruin my experience. I'm also one of the people who enjoyed it on Miiverse for those who mentioned that.
The people who see no difference are crazy or leave the video on the default 240p resolution. There's a huge difference. I love HD remasters. You get the original look of the game mostly preserved but with all the little issues fixed. Also even if a game is pretty in 480p it would be even prettier in 1080p. I'm an old school gamer who's been playing since the NES days and I'm all for technology. As long as the original gameplay shines through better or at least cleaned up graphics are always welcome.
That's what I was wondering. It says there will be a sequel for season 2, not sure why people are complaining about it just being a remake. It's both. On topic though, not sure I want this. I did play Moon for the DS and only thought it was okay. Kind of a Metroid Prime lite with really boring scenery. Still I may give the sequel a chance.
Pretty much what I expected for the Wii U. Some thought it would do great, most thought it would do terrible. I figured it'd be somewhere in the middle. Not high enough to prove the system isn't doomed, but not bad enough to write the system off. Hopefully December will tell us more. It will also be interesting to see if the other systems continue to sell well after the launch period.
You can actually hit a rematch button with friends. I've done it several times, just not with random strangers so that part is wrong. I agree they could have done a better job, but it's a $10 well spent to me.
It technically is a morning update. Nintendo headquarters is on the west coast so they release it at 9am there.
@QBertFarnsworth
Seriously? It made a huge difference. The resort version actually tracked your full motion instead of just when you released the button like in the original. Resort was much more accurate to my real life bowling skills (unfortunately).
Don't know why people go with the "I'm not getting it cause I already have it on the original console response". Hooking up old systems to HDTV's looks terrible. Even if you have an old CRT around it's still not convenient. Anyways I don't have any interest in Cubello and I already have all the rest of the rewards. Still a good week. Dillon's Rolling Western is really good and A Link To The Past is the best game ever made.

Re: Review: SDK Paint (Wii U eShop)
I reviewed it on my site and gave it a bit higher. I think the fact that it constantly receives updates and is the only Wii U painting app with layers gives it a nice boost.
Re: Review: Frederic: Resurrection of Music (Wii U eShop)
I reviewed it for eShop Companion last week and I gave it an 8. It's a really good game, that's just a bit too short. If you like rhythm games than it's worth getting. I did notice the one stage where the notes stop a minute before the song ends but it didn't ruin my experience. I'm also one of the people who enjoyed it on Miiverse for those who mentioned that.
Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?
The people who see no difference are crazy or leave the video on the default 240p resolution. There's a huge difference. I love HD remasters. You get the original look of the game mostly preserved but with all the little issues fixed. Also even if a game is pretty in 480p it would be even prettier in 1080p. I'm an old school gamer who's been playing since the NES days and I'm all for technology. As long as the original gameplay shines through better or at least cleaned up graphics are always welcome.
Re: Renegade Kid's New 3DS FPS Is Moon Chronicles
@Link41x
Re: NPD Results Deliver a 3DS Milestone And Modest Wii U Sales
Pretty much what I expected for the Wii U. Some thought it would do great, most thought it would do terrible. I figured it'd be somewhere in the middle. Not high enough to prove the system isn't doomed, but not bad enough to write the system off. Hopefully December will tell us more. It will also be interesting to see if the other systems continue to sell well after the launch period.
Re: Review: Wii Sports Club: Tennis (Wii U eShop)
You can actually hit a rematch button with friends. I've done it several times, just not with random strangers so that part is wrong. I agree they could have done a better job, but it's a $10 well spent to me.
Re: Wii Sports Club Goes Live Right Away in North America
@N64ever
It technically is a morning update. Nintendo headquarters is on the west coast so they release it at 9am there.
@QBertFarnsworth
Seriously? It made a huge difference. The resort version actually tracked your full motion instead of just when you released the button like in the original. Resort was much more accurate to my real life bowling skills (unfortunately).
Re: Nintendo Updates Available Club Nintendo Reward Games in North America
Don't know why people go with the "I'm not getting it cause I already have it on the original console response". Hooking up old systems to HDTV's looks terrible. Even if you have an old CRT around it's still not convenient. Anyways I don't have any interest in Cubello and I already have all the rest of the rewards. Still a good week. Dillon's Rolling Western is really good and A Link To The Past is the best game ever made.
