Note: The trailer below features adult themes and nudity.
Lust For Darkness isn't the type of game you'd usually find popping up on the Switch eShop, and it's certainly one that you won't want to play when Grandma pops round for a visit.
Available to download as we speak, the game is a psychological horror featuring occult and erotic themes. You'll find yourself in an alien dimension called Lusst’ghaa, where otherworldly creatures have decided to experiment on themselves and transform their bodies so that they can always experience sexual pleasure.
The trailer above is actually pretty tame in comparison to the one which was released for the game's Steam launch last year. You can watch that here if you like, but you've been warned!
Here's some more info:
Jonathan Moon receives a letter from his wife who has gone missing a year before. Following information from the message he heads for a secluded mansion where an eldritch, occult ceremony takes place.
Game Features:
- Erotic and occult themes
- World design inspired with works of Lovecraft, Giger & Zdzisław Beksiński
- Exploring a Victorian mansion and the world of Lusst’ghaa
- Using portals to traverse between two alternative realities
- Searching for hidden items to unlock side stories find out more about the game’s backstory
- Escaping the creatures of Lusst’ghaa
- Original soundtrack by a known composer (Draco Nared)
The Nintendo eShop listing notes that the game "may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work" with nudity, sexual content, frequent violence and gore all mentioned. You can pick it up right now for $14.59 / 12.99€.
What do you think? Surprised to see this one on Nintendo's machine? Are you thinking of giving it a go? Let us know in the comments.

Looks amazing! I’m buying it!!!
I’m happy to see Nintendo adding adult themed games to the Switch library.
Looks pretty messed up.
The latter artist, Zdzisław Beksiński, is someone I REALLY love. He's not as well-known as far as I know, but he's definitely fantastic and Giger fans would really enjoy his work.
"Lusst’ghaa" is a pretty funny name.
Anyway, like I thought, it's another weird Steam export. From what I've read, it seems like a mediocre Amnesia-esque experience with lots of imagery of genitalia everywhere.
Speaking of, why are the Amnesia games not on the Switch yet?
"World design inspired with works of Lovecraft, Giger & Zdzisław Beksiński"
I'm sold
I'll wait to see some "gameplay" before deciding. You have the internet for better adult themes if that tickles your fancy.
@Xelha Right? In my head, I'm replacing the word "Mufasa" from the animated Lion King bit where Shenzi and Banzai say the name back and forth with "Lusst'ghaa," and having more laughs than is reasonable.
So is this for people who like horror, or the p word, or...
American Beauty? The Upside Down? What is going on?!? Curious minds want to know!!
Waiting for the moralists to show up
Hahaha... This game looks stupid. I love it. I’m in.
Does this game require an online membership for multiplayer?
Eternal Darkness: Sexuality's Requiem
Reminds me a bit of some of the levels of hell in Dante's Inferno on 360. If anyone grabs this, let us know how meaty it feels.
No, really though, this needs a review.
You had me at Lovecraft and Giger.
Glad to see Nintendo allowing games like this on their platforms. That said, I’ll pass on this. I’m not into horror much and I really don’t want to associate horror with the naked human body.
@graysoncharles I'm here! Sorry to keep you waiting. To each his own of course but this game shows us just where we are in our world today. Yikes.
Needs more gameplay.
If I want nudity, there are better formats.
If I want games, there are better formats.
@Savino Seriously. I'm all for some "erotic horror" but that trailer is just nothing.
❤ sounds queer I'm in ❤
@graysoncharles I can't wait to see people who are not okay with this, but love junk like Senran Kagura
Just out of sheer curiosity, i wonder if they are going to censor the drawer dildos.
Might give it a go, decent price point, but will read some Steam reviews first, games like this tend to be all shock tactics with no actual decent gameplay.
Doesn't look like something I'd be into, but I can still appreciate the need for games in the "horny+spooky" niche.
@xxx128 : Leisure Suit Larry contains heaps of phallic imagery and sight of toys. I think this will be fine.
@invictus4000
A hell of a lot better than where we were just a few hundred years ago when we burned people alive because we thought they could do magic!
I think we are in a good place today when you think about where we were.
I personally don't find this appealing nor do I feel it belongs on a Nintendo console...However, more variety and choice for those who do is probably not a bad thing.
This isn’t your father’s Nintendo console...
@graysoncharles how so? I'm just saying I want to see how the game actually plays. I hardly believe it is all NUDITY all the time.
@Thesharkfromjaws alright. The game is also on steam. See if there are gameplay trailers from there
Please don't tell me this will end up like Steam, which is littered with hentai/porn games now. :/
@CharlieGirl "I can't wait to see people who are not okay with this, but love junk like Senran Kagura"
The people who aren't okay with this are mostly people like you, the type who complain about games like Senran Kagura.
It kinda looks extremely 90s, like those dodgy adventure games.
Imagine that. A trigger warning for a link to a youtube video.
Anti matter must be having kittens right now, and pretty large kittens at that.
@ShadowSniper7 : You speak as if witch-burnings was a widespread global phenomenon. Every society has had their share of problems then, and they have their share of problems now. And I'm sure that in those periods there were also plenty of enlightened people whose influence lives on until this very day (in spite of the extreme minority that may have practiced "witch" burnings, as history often favours sensationalised extremes as opposed to what is mundane/banal).
I think the disintegration of sexual morality has lead to countless social problems, and I deal with this in my work on a day to day basis. I am generally not opposed to adults viewing material of their choosing, however, I am opposed to the consumption of outright pornography, which has irreversibly destroyed the minds of the last few generations. No other generation in history has had access to such material with such ease. Those that disagree with my assertions ought to observe the drastic statistical shifts concerning marriage and relationships generally over the last century. I don't believe that pornography is the sole factor at play, but it is a significant contributing factor, and the statistics reveal a lot to those willing to read between the lines.
Those of us fortunate enough to live in the developed world tend to be in a good place, sure, but there are still many who suffer, either by circumstance, injustice, and/or ignorance not unlike that shown by the witch-burners of the days of old, and sadly, injustice is too often executed by the powers that be from the "developed" world.
I completely understand where you were coming from, but I thought it was disingenous to suggest that we have truly progressed as a people in any meaningful way, especially in the face of drastic social (and technological) change that has occurred over the last century. The world today is virtually unrecognisable from the world I grew up in, and I am concerned about our future, as people have become so despondent nowadays that suicide is the leading cause of preventable death, at least in Australia. I could go on and on, but this is hardly the place to discuss such things.
@yuwarite honestly both of them are junk.
But people love stuff for its "adult themes" and not the gameplay.
@JaxxDuffer : He is opppsed to M/18+ games... loudly so.
@SleeplessKnight nothing wrong with it being Nintendo. Switch is about to be severely outdated in one year. It’s going to need indie support to pick up major third party slack
@Silly_G since you want to get deep, id say that the reason suicide is so prevalent in society is in large part due to poor people skills and younger generations inability to handle things that don’t go there way. Instead of picking themselves up and trying again, young people are emotionally crippled when things don’t go there way. A large part of that again is due to social skills. Kids get depressed and feed that cycle by staying in their homes, not going out just hanging out in their rooms feeling sorry for themselves
@graysoncharles looks like you have to wait for a while...
Been playing it for an hour, it runs terribly and the gameplay is utter crap. Also holy heck those load times between getting caught and starting again! The ""sex appeal"" if you can call it that is fanservicey and barely ties in to what is essentially a slow stealth based walking sim with puzzles, it's a bit like "Don't Knock Twice" if anyone's played it.
Don't make my mistake
=|
@jly1987 : And the breakdown of the family unit (especially as so many children are now born into unstable families) would be one of the reasons why they may lack social skills (or have other developmental problems), especially if there is a lot of fighting or other inappropriate behaviour being displayed in the presence of children. Children are also more vulernable to sexual abuse when living with people that are not members of their immediate family.
One's social development will of course vary from person to person, no matter their circumstances. I have had a rather unusual upbringing (during my teen years, I was taking care of my older disabled sister and my baby brother, who is over 12 years my junior), and upon reflection, in the simplest terms, I would say that I was emotionally mature, but socially immature. In fact, that may still ring true for me as an adult. However, it is worth noting that certain cycles of behaviour and certain circumstances are more likely to breed certain problems (or behavioural traits), such as what we have just been talking about in relation to developmental problems among young people.
@jly1987 Well I and many other long-time Nintendo fans would disagree. Nintendo have traditionally always been the more family-friendly console. Their iconic stable of characters and IP is comparable to Disney. If I want gruesome, over the top horror there are better avenues and if I want softcore porn there are also better, more suitable avenues as well. Again though just my opinion as I stated before more choice for those who do want this kind of thing on Switch isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Any labo VR support? Asking for a friend...
I don't mind games like this, but when both the trailer and the info tell you absolutely nothing about the gameplay, it's usually crap.
So I own this game on Steam and 100%’d it. It’s really not erotic or Sexual. Its definitely for adults only, but it’s a horror game first and foremost. It’s just a lot of Penises everywhere almost to the point of being comical. I backed this and the sequel on Kickstarter. A better description would be “Lovecraft meets Warhammer’s Slaanesh in a FPS adventure game.”
It’s no different than Outlast, Remothered or Resident Evil being in the Switch store. It’s just got genitals instead of gore.
@PBandSmelly Yes.
I guess there will be a certain type of youth downloading this as we speak and spending the rest of the day in their bedroom, entering portals to traverse between two alternative realities. And by morning realising they have wasted their money. Still it will make a change from those Japanese cartoon games made for a similar audience. 🙄
Plot Twist: His wife was having too much fun to wanna leave.
Anyway I won't be getting this, but the story sounds like some hokey plot to one of those more ah risque erotic horror films in the 70s and 80s.
Also the name Lusst'ghaa cracks me up for some weird reason.
The best thing about Switch is, you can play games like this anywhere. In broad daylight. Outside. With loads of people around. Are just 3 examples off the top of my head...
@CharlieGirl yeah how dare there be moralists in today’s world! Let’s get em!!
I'll take ten please
Ick. That's all I have to say.
Ick.
@Joeynator3000 uhhhhhhhhhhhhyes
@Beermonkey : Just add a couple of stress balls, a papaya, and knickers to your next shopping list.
@GrimbleGromble : The nerve of people to speak for what they believe is right and offend those poor debaucherists!
@CharlieGirl Oof, don't pretend you know jack about Senran Kagura if you're calling it junk.
Just don't. You've got zero idea.
In general, this looks interesting. Hoping for a review on it though.
Sex and death don’t mix
20 year anniversary game for Tom Cruise's Eyes Wide Shut?
@JaxxDuffer really why?! I think he gets off on the sexual stuff as he didn’t stop posting about dream daddy and the body’s of all the men with drooling emojis and love hearts so he would have to be a hypocrite to hate this? Unless it’s just the horror part of course as bambi`s mom getting shot is too much horror for antimatter lol
@neogyo it does in horror
Ah, anonymous internet people.... please don't ever change.
Please continue to whine and moan about things you know nothing about, or have made even the slightest effort to investigate before you made all your nonsensical comments...
@TempOr Thank you for your service. I was thinking about picking this up as I don't mind walking simulators, but the performance issues don't seem worth it. I'll maybe wait for a patch and/or sale, or pick it up on Steam.
@HobbitGamer How meaty it feels? Seriously?
Good title you came up with, though. I was thinking 50 Shades of Eternal Darkness myself...
@ThanosReXXX It was hard to come up with such a pliable phrase.
oh my it looks so bad.I mean just watching it for a laugh it's awful.who wI'll buy this full price.😉enjoy whoever does 👍
@Judgedean I agree it seems so crap for Nintendo to warrant this. like some joke game.I mean who would buy this 😂
@TempOr it looks so bad.😂maybe for some though an no game play in trailor
@Fazermint and if you want games with nudity? 🧐
I'm gonna have to pick this up. Seems crazy
I like weird creepy horror porn but from reviews of the steam version it sounds like the erotic content in this isn't that interesting & the gameplay isn't great either. A shame.
It’s funny to think that I once got a 24-hour ban here for a comment in which I used partially censored/obscured swear words, and yet this site has no problem signal-boosting this overtly pornographic game and its trailer. I don’t know if that’s a sign of progress or a sign of gross hypocrisy.
I’m torn. The game looks good but I tend to find CG sex a bit too unsettling. That said I guess that’s kinda what they’re counting on. I’ll wait for reviews.
@Silly_G Will ask my wife to put it on the shopping list thank you.
Do agree pornography is too readily available and am dreading my 4yr growing up. However I am very much in favour of people who are of the age and mind to make a decision to watch porn, let them. This game however is not porn. It's adult entertainment. That's been around for years whether it has been literature, film or any other form of media. It's aimed at adults who are able to differentiate
between real life and entertainment. This is why rating systems are in place and should quite rightly be enforced.
@BAN I got a slap on wrist for saying s*** myself. S*** myself... S***. My. Self... Anyway do love this site and the community is slightly less venomous than other sites (cough, IGN, cough.) This is a game being released so can understand the article but do question some of the mods censorship.
S*** my self ...
(And you have been censored again. We don't like swear words here, to keep the site friendly for all.)
(On an adult related article... Well played mods... Well played...)
So American Beauty inspired?
@CharlieGirl someone is being salty over senran kagura games.
did someone really say this doesn't belong on an nintendo console and use the word family friendly? this person needs to grow up and get with the times sir (p.s i'd have tagged you but i typed this while on the move)
Inspired by real life occult and rituals, I see. I personally know enough about this so I can already see symbolism familiar in just the mask. I'm gonna give it a skip as this subject is a very dark one.
@SnesSwitch indeed I am mindblown! I have yet to buy a horror game on the switch but somehow most of them don't really catch my eyes, some I do look out but ain't ready to buy yet but this... looks amazing! Am gonna look up for some reviews since it has been out on steam for a while now, hope it is as amazing as the trailer shows!
I watched the tame trailer and the steam trailer.
This clearly isn't erotic and isn't pron.
This is horror, and it looks good.
I personally thought the movie Cool World was dark and horror themed in itself.
Have sex with a doodle in animated world, they turn them human like you but also destroy the space-time continuum balance or whatnot.
Does it have Amiibo support?
@rjejr That’s what I was thinking. Eyes Wide Shut and the rose pedal scene from American Beauty. I didn’t see much resembling Lovecraft of Giger here.
Edit: Nevermind. Saw the Steam trailer and there were lots of weird tentacles covering the wall, so there’s your Giger influence. Hopefully it’s better than that other game Agony, which it looks very similar to.
@NotTelevision I have to admit I never did watch the trailer, the article just read like a bad video game description of Eyes Wide Shut. And I haven't seen that other. I did see some of Vanilla Sky, I figure that's close enough.
Watch the steam video. Getting eternal darkness vibes. The nudity is irrelevant - this is a horror game.
My wife bought this, and we played it together. Surprisingly good, even though the Lusst'ghaa name kinda led me to believe it'd be lame.
LOL this trailer is so cheesy.
@Spoony_Tech and you loved messed up things. lol
@Jayofmaya and you loved dark stuff
@brandonbwii as an adult i'm sure you can handle it.... unless you're a 12 year old... i can imagine it makes feel unsure especially with parents in the corner lol
So far the moralistic gamers are leaving this one alone, but to "you know who", the differences in Senran Kagura and this is that there isn't any actual sexual intercourse involved nor is the sexual content in SK meant to be taken seriously. Also, the content in SK is fun and comedic and colorful, here, it's just creepy and meant to be creepy and occult-like. More adult than SK ever was. Depending on who you are, both can be considered uncomfortable, or softcore. But I doubt anyone has a problem with it, just that they're not into...this.
My partner just bought this.... 12 gb download people. Thats skyrim levels. Lets hope we get some enjoyment for $17 bucks
@Beermonkey this has just made me laugh out loud. Thank you. Best comment I’ve ever read on here. 😂😂😂😂😂
I’m still laughing. 😂😂
So this is kinda like a version of Hellraiser?
I do not see the value in these overly sexualized "animated" games. What is the point of gratuitous nudity in a video game especially if it is not real? If you want that there are platforms that do a better job of it, not that I am condoning or promoting it. Titles like Leisure Suit Larry are tongue in cheek humor and much different than this.
@rjejr
20 years?!
I now feel incredibly old.
@Alucard83 sure did have an affinity and maybe a finger to point the blame at. However, as you grow you learn what is good for you and your reality versus what is counter progressive.
Finished it this afternoon. Total run time was 2.5 hours, including a frustrating segment near the end where I spent 15 minutes with no idea what to do.
It's crap.
@Dakotastomp There IS actual sexual intercourse in the game, although as a backdrop. And acted out at 1/3 the speed people tend to have sexual intercourse at. Pretty amusing actually! The slow gyrations don't look erotic in the slightest and come off goofy.
@Mycroft I absolutely love Deadly Premonition (and Twin Peaks... of course) so I second your recommendation of DP on the Switch, I mean who doesn't want a little more F.K... in their coffee!
@Alucard83 CG naked people always has and probably will look weird to me lol.
I sure hope the eShop trailer isn't like that, because that's like 97% nudity, only sparing the bits.
@ShadowSniper7 You guys dont burn people alive anymore? You are missing out
@jly1987 There already is major third part slack, lol
@TempOr I meant in SK. Yeah, I'm da*n sure there's sex in this game. SK is way more goofier and I don't see why anyone would get offended by it.
@SBandy "20 years?! I now feel incredibly old."
Imagine how Tom Cruise must feel.
@Dakotastomp Ah, gotcha. The SK games are just stupid fun, there's nothing else to it.
@SleeplessKnight I agree it’s not a bad for sure. I just meant like feeling it doesn’t belong there. That’s the exact reason why Nintendo found themselves in a position where only diehard fans were buying their stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I love my switch, but Nintendo really does need to embrace everything they can because between the console being underpowered despite being 4 years late to the party that’s just going to get worse unless strong indie titles can bolster the consoles portfolio. Playstation seemed to stop caring about indies and that’s where Nintendo can benefit
When the trailer is a blatant rip-off of American Beauty, then I worry for the game’s creativity and originality. Horror ain’t my genre anyways, and adding in a few penises doesn’t change that.
But gaming options are always welcome, even more so if the eShop was updated and we could remove the detritus ...
@TempOr I'm about an hour in, and I'm actually enjoying it pretty well so far. I haven't noticed any serious bugs. The load times are longer than I'd like, but that's pretty much only between major gameplay segments or when you screw something up (get caught, die, succumb to madness, etc.). I think they did a good job with the atmosphere and enemy design, which reminds me a bit of a cross between Amnesia and Dante's Inferno (and, especially in the alternative world, the Broodmother segments from Dragon Age). I'd say the gameplay is mostly P&C adventure with a few simple puzzles and some small bits of stealth and survival dropped into the mix. I happen to like P&C, so I'm good with it, but I'd guess that those who don't enjoy that genre may find the pace too plodding.
@Silly_G witch burning has affected most of the west over the centuries.
"...isn't the type of game you'd usually find popping up on the Switch eShop." They're going to have to stop saying that. Nintendo has made it pretty clear that they're OK with the Switch eShop being a den of carnal delights.
🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀😲😲😲😲😖🤤🤤🤤🤤🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 I just might buy this but not sure right now though.....
@Deathwalka my opinion is that sex should never be connected to violence. It’s a shame that it’s become an element of horror as there’s nothing horrific about it.
@neogyo I hear ya, I agree I’m not personally a fan of it myself.
@Joeynator3000 well even if it does, you have a choice not to buy these sort of games. I don’t like these games either but some people do.
I didn’t realise steam had a lot of it, the only one I heard of is a game called hunnipop lol
@neogyo I wouldn't say "NEVER." I think combining sex and violence usually comes off as a lazy way to grab attention and provide cheap thrills. But I can think of a few cases where it was handled well. There's a classic anime "Perfect Blue" about a squeaky clean pop star that tries to reinvent herself as an actress in a very adult role, and the psychotic reaction from obsessed fans who refuse to accept her transformation. There's some pretty messed up and disturbing scenes, but they're pretty essential for the plot and creating the intense conflict. But yeah, the cases where it's done well is the exception to the rule.
@TheFox Not to mention the fact that there's a strong and well-documented historical, biological, and neurological connection between the two. That is not to say that we should accept such a connection in our real-world personal interactions, of course, but to flat-out deny that it's a part of the human experience (and the experience of most other species too) might do more harm that good. Video games, film, and other art can provide a healthy expression of (or outlet for) this connection that we may find socially taboo.
0/10 Needs more Castlevania
@kirbygirl very true, it’s from this dynamic that it’s so prevalent in today’s art and horror.
Reviewed it for Switch Player Magazine. It's a disappointment. http://switchplayer.net/2019/07/16/lust-for-darkness-review/
I'll never understand why people complain about games coming out they don't like the look of. You don't want it? Just don't buy it. There's plenty of movies and TV shows that come out I think are trash but I'm fine with them existing for other people. Some gamers do come across as hella-elitist if not everything meets their own personal or moral standards.
I'm not mad about the framerates or the fact I can't adjust the brightness in game. I am however having a difficult time with the the controls. I'm stuck trying to open Amanda's puzzle box. It doesn't seem to rotate the mechanism down.
What buttons am I suppose to use?
