I was seriously defending the WiiU when I got one at Christmas and was looking forward to the list of games this year. However- two months ago was Donkey Kong and then nothing! Mario Kart at the end of this month but how on Earth can they expect people to buy a system which they simply do not support? I do not understand their business model at all. Coupled with the fact that they also do not seem to be doing anything about their ridiculous eShop policies of locking games purchased to a system.

I recently purchased a Vita and was able to transfer a tonne of PS3 games that I had purchased in the past as well as getting Vita versions of purchased PS 3 games for free. That and PS plus is ensuring that I have a steady flow of games throughout the year.

Don't get me wrong- I love the Wii U system but I seriously didn't buy it to play GBA games! I couldn't recommend it to anyone at the moment as a viable purchase.

If the second screen is such a waste of time then why is it one of Sony's main selling points now for connectivity between the Vita and PS4? (Don't get me wrong- I have a Vita and love it.)
I love the idea that I can put the headphones on and play Donkey Kong on the Gamepad while my TV is being monopolised by everyone else.
The Kinnect I bought two years ago has been used a few times- in fact today I disconnected the thing. The other biggest waste of time was PS3 Move (although excellent)- I hardly ever used the thing.
I use the Gamepad all the time and am annoyed when some games don't support play on it!

I don't understand the fuss- I got a N64/Gamecube cable off ebay and have had the old N64 out for the last month. I've been playing Excitebike 64, Doom 64, Quake et al and haven't been bothered by what's on the screen. It's the same as watching a VHS now- that's what the quality was like back then and now we are used to better. Get over it and enjoy the games.

darthstuey commented on Video: The Top 20 Wii U Games So Far - Part One:

Haven't got Wind Waker yet but did have it back on the cube so want to play it again.
Anyway here's my picks of retail only:
1: Lego City Undercover- simply stunning
2: ZombiU- simply terrifying (too scary to play alone in fact)
3: Super Mario 3D World
4: Donkey Kong TF
5: Nintendoland
6: Pikmin 3
7: Wonderful 101
8: Rayman Legends

That's a list of stellar games for any system and there are several eshop ttitles I am equally impressed with.

I don't understand anyone who pays the prices of full downloads for the likes of Mario 3D world, Zelda, Donkey Knong et al. I'm getting the disc of DK on friday which will probably be at least 10 quid cheaper than the download fro the eshop.

Lego City is one of the greatest games I have ever played- the humour, the characters and the hunting for gubbins. Simply utter wonder. This is just like all the other lego games- which is no bad thing when playing with the kids as the enjoyment factor is so high.

darthstuey commented on Talking Point: The Watch_Dogs Wii U Delay Demo...:

@DarkKirby The problem is that on PS and XBOX EA, Ubi et al don't have anything getting in their way- they are the system sellers. On Nintendo there are the first party games which sell the most. My friends work at Ubisoft and were explaining to me how disappointed they were with ZombiiU- arguably one of the system's best games (rightly so) but they lost millions on it. I have to be honest- I picked it up for £8 in a bargain bin. If the companies aren't going to make money on a platform then why would they produce games but I think that Nintendo can ride this storm if they sort out their own releases and the eshop.

darthstuey commented on Nintendo Software Continues to Lose Momentum i...:

When the Wii was released here for less than £200 I said that it would sell millions- it became an impulse buy. When the 3DS was released for £250 I said it wouldn't sell at all and it didn't- until the price drop. When the WiiU was released I said the same thing and look what we have. You have to understand that we pay the same in pounds as the US does in dollars- it's a hell of a lot. When the price drop goes to £200- which it will despite what Nintendo say then I can see the WiiU having an excellent year with its software line up.

@Koffeeking0407 Couldn't agree more with WiiU being my favourite system of all time and I've owned nearly all of them since Atari Woody! The amount of fun I've had playing Mario, Lego City, Pikmin, NES Remix, Rayman and ZombiiU when I'm brave enough is unreal. Infact I can't afford all the games I want- never mind Donkey Kong- I still haven't played 101, Zelda and Nintendoland yet!

@Kolzig
It has nothing to do with not wanting paying customers. It has to do with demand which sadly isn't there. Two of my friends are designers at Ubisoft and I was discussing the WiiU to them- actually defending it. They think the system is a joke. They produced arguably the best 3rd party game in ZombiiU which is quite frankly excellent but nobody bought it. They said the money they lost was silly and it's now being sold for £8 in bargain bins. So if anyone is to blame it's the WiiU owners who are not buying these titles. I'd rather we stopped moaning about the 3rd party issue and got Nintendo to sort out their own titles and their account system. I read the same comments again and again and someone on here put it quite intelligently- on PS3 and 360 the third party games are the main selling points, they are not on a Nintendo console. However it is now over a year and what have Nintendo released? Don't get me wrong- I love the system and have mario 3D, Pikmin 3 and really want Zelda HD but that's really it from them in over a year- it isn't good enough. My other games are Zombii, Lego Undercover (genius) and Rayman Legends- another poor seller for Ubi despite its excellence. In closing- if there is any company to be annoyed with it is infact Nintendo themselves. I really hope they pull it out the bag this year because they are going to need more than Donkey Knong, Mario Kart and Smash Bros in a year. As many others have stated- simply sorting out the VC and availability of their amazing back catalogue across WiiU and handheld would go some way to solving any problems. Sorry for going on- I'm off to play Lego Undercover!

@GeminiSaint
God I hope so. I was thinking of buying a cube again so I googled the best 25 games- have you seen that list? It's possibly the best list any console has had! If at the end of it my WiiU has 25 titles like that I'll be well happy. That and an account system that lets me play my tonnes of VC games on all my consoles.

darthstuey commented on Mass Market Price And Mario Kart 8 Will Revers...:

Nintendo's stupid eshop policy of locking games to systems is what made me leave them a few years ago. That and an iPad with hundreds of readily available excellent games like The Walking dead. However I have been tempted back by a second hand wiiu and a 2ds. It took me all day to port my VC/Wiiware titles across which was ridiculous and nearly made me take the thing back but in the end it comes down to games. Other than Heavy Rain and The Last of Us on PS3 I haven't played a game that has given me the same amount of joy as Lego City Undercover, Mario 3D world and Pikmin 3 in the last few years. I also picked up Rayman legends and ZombiU cheap and both are excellent. I stupidly got sucked back into the eshop in the hope they will someday allow me to play my own games on my ds and wii. NES remix is a blast and I couldn't resist Earthnound. Over on Kotaku there is so much negativity for Nintendo and the Wii U but this year I'm going to get Wind Waker, bayonetta 2, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong and Metroid. I'm also very interested in the DC/Scribblenauts crossover. I don't know about anyone else but i wouldn't trade those titles for a dozen call of duties, ea generic sporties or even GTA5. (I know- I think I'm the only gamner who finds it intensely dull.)

darthstuey commented on 3DS Won't Be This Cheap Forever Says Nintendo UK:

Sorry but £175 is not cheap for a handheld, especially considering most folks will own an iPhone or some kind of Android phone.
The reason the Wii was so successful was that it was so much cheaper than the PS3 and XBox 360. At £179 it was an impulse buy- as was the original DS at its launch.
Nintendo have lost sight of this and I feel that this system will not sell any where near the amounts of its predecessors. Saying that, judging by the rumours of the price of Sony's new baby, I may by wrong!!

darthstuey commented on Pilotwings 64:

Yes it was better than the SNES version. Infact, it was one of the best N64 games released. So much so that I am so sick of waiting for classic games like this to be released on the VC that I have gone to Ebay and bought an N64. To be honest, I wish that I had never sold my classic system collection but there you go I did so let's not talk about it ever again! I just picked up Quake for 99p and am bidding on Pilotwings and Jet Force Jemini right now.
My N64 turned up yesterday with Shadows of the Empire and when nI plugged it in to the kitchen TV a warm wave of yesterday washed over me. Forget the VC and just by the original consoles!
I'm gutted that my SNES appears to be ill and won't display any video- oh well I'm sure I can pick one up cheap and finally play Unirally again as it seems that is another title never to be released on VC.

I think the worst of all is that we are still tied to a game to a system. I have stopped buying all WiiWare/DsiWare/VC games until this is changed. I;ve spent too much money to have games I own lost if my system is stolen etc. Also if my son wants one of my dsi downloads to play on his system, why should I have to buy it again? It's utterly crazy.
I'm in the Sony camp now Nintendo and I'm really sorry as I had been buying your systems for over twenty years.
I won't be getting a 3DS or the next gen home console unles I can feel safe knowing I can port downloaded content to them.

What is all the excitement about? This has been out on the GBA for about 5 years so it's not like it was unavailable. I want games that have been unavailable since their original release- I thought that was the whole point of the VC. There is no doubting just how good this game is but considering its availability I am really disappointed it is the only game released this week.

darthstuey commented on Europe VC Releases - 16th March - Splatterhouse:

PS3 at £425 is ridiculous. It will end up like the PS2- hundreds of below par genre games. If all you are interested in is graphics and power then you must be 20 or under and will probably love it. Wii is the greatest console I have owned and I've owned a canny few in the 27 years I have been playing games; however I do agree that many of the launch games have been hugely disappointing. Excite truck is a good laugh and the controls work fine, Sports is great, SSX is good but finding the control system a tad tricky at the moment, Play is totally overrated but the pool and cow racing are worth a fiver, I hated Wario Ware- where was the real multi-player head to head option?, I love comics but also hated Ultimate Alliance, Sonic looks below par, Kororinpa- I like. Afraid to buy Zelda in case I lose my family for a month. despite this there are a great many high quality games coming out in the next few months- can't wait for Metal Slug Anthology. PS3- whatever!
