Katamari Damacy Reroll Demo Arrives On 7th December

I thought I heard the game had been delayed until the 21st (maybe only in Europe?) but I don't remember where I heard it. Was that not true then?

A demo is perfect for Katamari. Never played it, and wasn't likely to have the guts to just take a punt on it - but I do love these weird, unique games.

Interesting game...just not one that ever fully grabbed my attention. Definitely unique. From what I remember the soundtrack was pretty great

Out of all the days they could have chosen in December, they decided to release on the day of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Probably not the wisest decision.

Not to say it’s a bad game but, there nothing else on that day that to catch my interest besides SSBU. They could’ve picked a better day for sure.

I can’t wait to play this one. It caught my eye years ago when it first released on PS2, but since I’m a Nintendo-only guy, I always just eyed it enviously. Now I can play it, but it’ll surely have to wait, seeing as it comes out the same day as Smash. Kind of a bad idea, if you ask me...

Is this game digital only?

This game feels 1000% Nintendo. Cute, clever mechanics, playable for gamers of all skill levels... it's absolutely in the Kirby wheelhouse. Loved it years ago and can't wait to revisit it.

Honestly if you have not played this, make sure you do. It is literally Namco at their wonderfully inventive best akin to their golden age arcade heyday with Pac-man and Dig Dug.

Just so the uninitiated are aware, the way the game was played in the Nintendo Minute video is not how it’s intended 😂

I’m picking this up on the day to end all days next to Smash. $30 for a physical is nice, but for this gem it’s fantastic.

If it's out on the same day as Smash, I'll still buy it, but I certainly won't play it until I spend some time grinding in Smash until I can unlock a decent (if not complete) roster.

I hope I can use amiibo to unlock the roster sooner, otherwise I'm going to feel pretty miffed about my $1000+ or so investment.

@Silly_G They haven't said much about the amiibo in SSBU. I'm curious if the game reads the Wii U game data, my kids have about 2 dozen to level 50, or if they start from scratch. One problem with amiibo since day 1 is they can only hold the data for 1 game, despite Nintendo making such a big deal about "1 amiibo, many games" when they launched. So, if my kids use them in Ultimate can they still use them on Wii U, which they still play. I'm not even sure they level up to 50 or if it's completely different and we just add stickers.

I do like your idea of unlocking them though. I've been saying that since before we bought Cloud and Bayonetta amiibo since after paying $12 each we never bought them for another $6 each in game, so my kids leveled up the amiibo but never got to play as those two characters. At least that's a few things new for Christmas.

My biggest unlocking concern though is save files. I never got to unlock a single character on the Wii U b/c the stupid system shared a save file across accounts and my kids unlocked them all before I had a chance to play, and 1/3 of the challenges as well. So this time as soon as my kids play and unlock 1 character I'll kick them off and start a new game on my acvount. And if that character is unlocked I'll probably throw the Switch right through the wall and swear off Nintendo for life. So hopefully they get that correct this time, priority 1, separate save files for separate accounts. Then I'll look into amiibo.

I've played several Karamari games but can't recall which one this is. I think the so called "greatest hits version, the last one, or it could be the first one.

We'll try out the demo for sure, SSBU, like Pokémon and Mario Party, is a Christmas gift, so if the demo is good we might even buy it. HD rumble should add something, and co-op could be a lot of fun.

I still have my PS2 version of the game and "Me and My Katamari" on my PSP. I'm not going to buy the game again.

I can't wait to get something else than old games because my switch is really dusty right now.

@rjejr : I don't know why you're so hung up on unlocking all of the characters yourself. Quite frankly, I'm annoyed that we're only given the option to play with the original 8 considering the sheer volume of characters that are available. I don't want to be stuck playing with characters that I am not interested in for hours on end just to get the roster to a state where the game will be palatable in multiplayer. I want to ensure that the game is ready for couch multiplayer ASAP, and I dread the idea of having to grind for hours in order to get the game to such a state.

I get that people feel delusions of triumph when they unlock characters/content through gameplay, but for a game like Smash, which I am primarily interested in for multiplayer, being forced to unlock such a large roster of characters sounds like a tedious and unnecessary grind. I would much rather just have the entire roster good and ready from the get-go.

@Ooyah I've played pretty much every Katamari, and it does seem like I was able to go to space in the first one. If it wasn't the first one it was the second PS2 game.

@luxoricious Would be awesome if Digital Foundry does a video on it. It looks like it will be higher resolution, but the same frame rate, which is 30fps. I wish frame rate would be increased first, then resolution if they have the processing overhead, but alas I'm just a complainer, not a programmer! Seriously, I love the gameplay and music in the Katamari games and will play it at 30 fps for sure.

I'm so glad this is coming out on Switch! For people who try it via the demo, please consider how much more satisfying the game gets once you keep growing and can swallow up buildings, cars, etc in the later levels! I need to get my PS2 hooked up so I can check if this is the game where you can roll up islands in the ocean, then planets and stars in space...

Oh how silly, that's the day Smash Ultimate launches.

I loved the original and the PSP version. The concept was very cool at the time and I enjoyed the overall style of the game with the silly story and the funny things you pick up along the way. A demo for such a game seems like a good idea. Some might be interested in the concept but unsure if they'll enjoy it.

@Silly_G different strokes for different folks. One of my favorite things is unlocking things and for most of the entries, my playtime drastically lowered after unlocking everything. I love the process of slowly seeing the roster build up!

@Korosanbo Wait, there’s a whole collection on PS3 now? I thought it was just the first one? Does it include We love Katamari? I would love to be able to download that one, since my PS2 doesn’t work anymore. I would rather it come to Switch, but chances seem pretty high we’ll only get the first one. Still, I never imagined I’d get any Katamari on a Nintendo, and I love these games. Day one for me. I probably won’t even need to get the demo.

@Flipbot I believe Katamari Forever on PS3 was the best levels from the first two.

That’s a week after they said it was coming before. Dang. I’m still getting it, but I’ll be pretty busy with Smash and both Persona dancing games that week.

@ShadJV Same, I was so happy when they showed the starting roster is the original 8. Having so many available from power up in 4 was a bit overwhelming and disappointing.

@Ooyah You could roll up the countries during the end credits. I honestly don't remember rolling all the planets up...and now I want to!

I like demos and I don't care if they release it the same day the game comes.
I find it clever that it comes out the same day with Super Smash Bros.
I appreciate that we are given just 8 characters only in Super Smash Bros and then we have to unlock the rest.

I heard this game was delayed until dec 20? I check it again it was but the pc, was still releasing the same day? I guess they changed their minds? Someone ask if there is a Physical copy of the game? Yes there is. i only seen it on GameStop though. I’ll still picking it up to support the company so we can get more games on switch. People also seem to forget that on that same day sega classic edition in also release day, which I’ll also be pickin* that up as well. For years I heard many good things about this game so I can’t wait to play it. Smash will be taking up my time but that doesn’t mean I won’t play this one when I get tired of it.

Also I heard rumors that the amiibo will unlock the roster which i am fine with. Yay for people that want to u lock it but I want to play some of my favorite character that’s not in th roster with my friends, so I hope this is true. Sakurai hasn’t really stated how to unlock characters in the game yet and I don’t think he will. So I hope the amiibo rumor is true.

I wish more devs would make demos available.

Coming out the same day as Sma5h, that's brutal. Can't do much worse than that. Shame too, Katamari is a wonderful game. It was one of the first games I can remember playing.

I've been waiting way too long for a new Katamari to drop so I'll take a reboot. Back in the day, it retailed for $25 on PS2 which was an incredible bargain. I'm glad it's being released on the Switch for a reasonable price. It's the perfect Japanese game.

@Ooyah I felt the series lost a bit if it's charm after the first one. Therefore, by the time I played Beautiful Katamari I was probably already biased against it.

Rolling up planets in space does sound rad, I don't recall doing that in the first one.
