The Rotom in the Pokedex is the greatest thing ever! Oh, and I guess the legendaries and the other characters are cool, too.
All aboard the hype train!
The moon pokemon looks awesome, the sun shows painful running out of ideas.
Looking at the features of the Rotom Pokedex, yes. Yes. Yes.
Solgaleo and Lunala are neat, with basically Clear Body and Multiscale for abilities, and their moves ignore abilities of opponents. The beast that calls the moon and the beast that devours the sun. Just sounds neat.
Lillie miiiiight be the villain, kind of an N analog from that short bio, and Kukui researches moves, which is nice. So we've had Pokémon, Breeding, Habitats, Evolution, History, Mega Evolution and if you count Colress then strength. And now Moves.
And....boats to get around? Neat. Also artificial island = villain base neeeeext question. Or the Pokémon League maybe.
Also, since the trademarks for Solgaleo and Lunala were true....Marshadow is a thing...
Looks good, definitely playing moon first, but I'll get both versions like always. One thing I will say, the Pokémon models looks like they're straight out of gen 6. Compared to the change black and white had to gen 4 these changes just aren't as big. Anyway that aside I'm very hyped for what could potentially be the last big 3ds game! I really hope we can customise out trainers again, I think it's been confirmed but I can't remember hahahaha. That Rotom dex though, bringing back the memories of the rotom event in platinum from wayy back, probably got some inspiration from it!
Until I see something "different" I probably won't move past X-Y, which is fine, since the $CAD has been waning here it's now $59.99 to preorder, and I'm not willing to spend that.
Moon ftw. Can't wait.
The region looks beautiful! Except for the name... Allow is kind of lame.
@ProfessorToad allow? No Alola
This is looking better and better! 2016 is truly year of the 3DS games and my list is long!
Kirby, Monster Hunter, Youkai Watch 3 (imports), Style Savvy 3, Yo-kai Watch 2, Disney Magical World 2, Pokemon Sun/Moon
Hot dang! The backlog struggle will be real this year lol
So I guess the kid with the dreads is the friendly rival and Lillie is the real rival? I hope she's a serious rival, not like Serena.
@ProfessorToad Given its said she dislikes battles and works for kukui for personal reasons...thinly veiled villain is thinly veiled?
@ProfessorToad Were any of them really rivals? Its basically just another trainer battle like the others.
"That gave me chicken skin." So I guess conventional poultry does (or did) exist in the Pokemon world...
So the trademarked names for the legendaries were real. If so, then possibly they might do the third in a few months.
Definitely Moon version for me.
Psychic-Steel? Is that just a legendary Metagro--PSYCHIC-GHOST?!? Moon! Moon all the way!
Also I KNEW the Alola region wasn't just that one island, but an entire archipelago!
And Rotom in the Pokédex...? That makes it simultaneously the first talking Pokémon AND the first talking Pokédex in the games, although not in the franchise as a whole given Meowth and Dexter respectively in the anime.
@AlexSora89 Its a legendary Metagross that will probably have lower stats than Mega-Metagross and has the same ability under a new name.
@RoomB31 that's just a placeholder price. It's not the final price. Plus during E3 there are deals to get 30% off preorders. That's when I usually preorder all my games because I got 4 kids so I can't afford to spend alot on video games.
@BLPs
Indeed. All hail the bat!
Look, I get that they like to have Psychic in their legendaries, but Solgaleo REALLY isn't a Fire type? Lunala I'm more ok with being Psychic/Ghost cause it's a really cool typing and I was afraid it might be Dark/Flying which is just ugh.
@AlexSora89 I chose Moon from the start, mainly due to my avoidance of the red-green colours due to disability, and I prefer Blue legends (Exceptions being Groudon and Yveltal) and right now.....gooood damn Lunala looks awesome. Also all hail Psychic/Ghost with Multiscale!!!
...also Team Popplio...
Definately going for that psychic ghost
@foodmetaphors I'm not questioning the Psychic part, I think that works for Space legends and stuff. I'm questioning Steel. Why Steel? Its the Sun. Fire. Hot. Burns. I mean heat produces Steel yes but...Iunno.
As far as cover Pokémon (Charizard/Venusaur/Blastoise/Pikachu/Ho-oh/Lugia/Suicune/Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza/Dialga/Palkia/Giratina/Reshiram/Zekrom/Kyurem/Yveltal/Xerneas/Solgaleo/Lunala) go though, there are interesting stats on their typings:
One cover - Grass/Poison/Ground/Dark/Ice/Fairy
Two covers - Ghost/Steel/Electric
Three covers - Psychic
Four covers - Fire/Water
Five covers - Flying
Seven covers - Dragon
At least its not Dragon lads...
So Derrick from Gamexplain was right with his multiple islands to visit theory.
I like the multiple islands thing they have going there. I hope there are still some water routes with diving, so you could get from one island to another without ferry. I do like them in moderation (and maybe if there weren't encounters everywhere). I'd love exploring some crazy underwater caverns. :3
With multiple islands being a thing, who knows. Maybe we will get some DLC later with new islands and new story episodes, like the Delta episode or Looker missions in XY. Or maybe an island with Battle Frontier/PWT on it? I'd want all of that even without it being DLC of course
Also, predicting the mysterious assistant to be a Pokemon in disguise because reasons.
So good, so bad I can't decide which version and which starter to get.
@BLPs
You're colorblind? Ouch, that's gotta suck. Sad to hear, bro.
i like solgaleo better i think
@AlexSora89 I'm colourblind yeah. Its part of the reason I don't do with AAA games, and especially mature games that lean on the browns/greens colour spectrum, like darker areas of Uncharted, FPS stuff, etc. etc., because level geometry becomes indistinguishable from other objects, and vice versa. I even have this problem with the Binding of Isaac, I cant see some attacks coming, mostly in the Womb levels, where the floor is one shade of red and most attacks are a separate shade, but red is red, its one thing usually to me, so I cant see any floor based hazards or projectiles.
I won't lie, I totally forgot this info was dropping today. XD I know Lunala seems to be the more popular legendary (especially with the neat typing), but I think I'm still team Solgaleo/Sun.
The Rotom Pokedex is awesome, I wonder if it's more aesthetic, or an actual new form? (Haven't watched the video yet since I'm at work) Also, I was right in thinking the Alola region was more than one island.
Sick! Super excited about this game honestly, and I love the new battle look!
@BLPs Nice to see you excited BLPs. Hopefully this helps with the healing. We all need something to look forward to.This isn't my thing, I'm just here for my kids. They'll each get a version Day 1. I think they've already decided.
Introducing Professor Shirtless.
I wonder if IGN will think there's an appropriate amount of water ._.
Kinda surprised that Solgaleo is a Psychic/Steel type, but his signature move looks amazing. I also really like the PokeDex Rotom! It'd be cool if they made a different form similar to that for battles.
@rjejr
Maybe. Its getting worse though. And yeah, it's neat to be excited. But I was also excited about XY so...
@Yorumi I am also really surprised by the lack of that feature. I mean the worst example outside of THE reason I like my games to avoid the FPS brownage standard, is probably The Binding of Isaac. Those levels are flat out impossible. I often lose a run down there because, especially with Gurgling enemies who leave a trail on the floor, or ny enemy like that really, or projectiles with are red, or even ENEMIES that are red, they just might as well be invisible. No joke.
When I make games I aim to try and work a c/b mode in, its just hex ffs, not hard!
I'll need to watch it again, but I'm liking the look of the region so far
@Yorumi Colour blindness is a varying range of stuff. Its either colours are greyed out, or like with me, some colours look identical, making things blend in and be invisible. :/
@Yorumi Because humanity. Short sightedness and minimal effort maximises money.
@BLPs
Ouch. Any game that relies on color as a game mechanic must be outright painful to play (especially Mirror's Edge). If it's of any consolation, I have SuperHot on my Xbox One and I can't complete more than one level at a time because the color scheme is a massive eyesore (everything is different shades of red while enemies are entirely white, and it HURTS).
Oh no. On the Pokémon website it says "...The Rotom Pokédex shows your current location and your next destination, and it also gives you advice on where to go next, based on the conversations you have with others! It's likely to be of great help to you in many parts of your adventure."
So Rotom is now another Navi? Who thought this would be a good idea?
@Yorumi Exactly. Hopefully if Game Freak makes it so that the Rotom Pokédex is like Navi, then the map will be huge and mazelike, which would be great, especially if regular reminders of where to go can be disabled.
@ProfessorToad It's "Alola". I don't like it either because it's pretty much "Aloha". The Aloha region.
Solgaleo is obvious. It's bright, and a lion. Lunala, on the other hand, not so much.
@GodOfPie yeah... I know
@Kylo_Ren yes!!,I'm on broad.full speed ahead,and don't stop!!.
@Yorumi (comment #33)
It is currently believed that clothing customization is going to be a part of the game. The Pokemon Direct showed black striped shirt instead of a blue stripe shirt at one point. With that we think that there are going to be the same customizations as previously.
@kensredemption Luna = Spanish for Moon, Ala = Spanish for Wing.
Why wouldn't the Moon legend be a Fairy type when literally every moon based (actually based on it, not just evolving with the Moon Stone) Pokémon and attack was either created or retconned as Fairy type last gen?! By making it yet another Psychic type (although the Ghost typing is cool), it's basically just Cresselia 2.0.
@GodOfPie At least it's still a more creative name than the Kanto region that was based on...the Kanto region of Japan.
@chiefeagle02 note: its also hawaiian pigeon english for goosebumps.
this place is basically hawaii
@themac2001 Mahalo!
@chiefeagle02 ayyyy see what u did there
I kind of like the idea of the "beast that devours the sun" being weak to Fire-type moves.
I'm not sure whether Lunala's 4x weakness to Dark-type moves is ingenious (as it would call the moon to banish the darkness) or ironic (because the moon is usually associated with either night when it's dark, or eclipses where it obstructs sunlight).
