Elite Beat Agents was one of the more unique titles in the Nintendo DS library, offering a fun combination of rhythm action and engaging narrative. Based on the import release Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, the title never got a proper sequel in the west (although Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 was released in Japan), but creator Keiichi Yano says that he would love to rectify that - and that he's just waiting for the right time.
Speaking to Polygon, Yano said:
I have a great relationship with Nintendo.
There will be a right time, when it feels like it should come back. A lot of times, the platform will dictate those kind of things. I think people have an idea - "if this game was on this platform, it would be perfect and it would be like this" - those are the times when it's right to have that kind of a comeback.
I'd certainly love to make another version of it and hopefully it's the next platform.
The "next platform" presumably means NX, and given his close relationship with Nintendo, there's a good chance that Yano has already seen what the machine looks like.

Would be a system seller for me.
I enjoyed Elite Beat Agents so much that the two Ouendan games became the first Japanese titles I ever imported. I'd love to see the series continue.
I am importing a cheap version of Ôendan 2, I didn't really liked the music in E.B.A and can't wait to try the original's sequel.
With all those Theatr Rythm, Miku, etc... released on 3DS, it is strange that a Ôendan 3D (the perfect name) was not made. Or maybe it was the fear of an overfull market?
@EllenJMiller Same here. I even remember downloading the demo for EBA from the DS Download Station at my Gamestop and not turning off my DS until I could go back the next day to get a copy of the game because I was enjoying just the demo so much. Those three games are my top favorite DS games and I still carry them around with me. I'd love to see a new EBA. Heck, I'd import a Japanese 3DS for a new Ouendan if it came down to it!
Definitely a system seller!
Day one purchase!
i love these kinds of games and its verry weird and funny so thats a big plus.yeah, bring it on
Oh my God yes.
EBA and Ouendan are some of my favourite games ever, period.
I need another one.
Desperatly.
It would be a day one purchase for me. I hope they'll combine Osu and EBA so they can release the same game worldwide.
Yes please
I'm amazed they've never been released on the 3DS virtual console. They are a perfect fit...
If thet tap into the audience that osu! enjoys on PC, that would be great! I'm one of those people who'd love these, actually.
They better make the backstories just as inspiring as the ones in the DS games, too. There are quite a few that got me to break into a wide smile, too.
That said, these games never broke 300k...and we know the NCL attitude toward these sorts of games that were commercial failures...
Elite Beat Agents is a really fun game, got it for around 11 bucks and I played a bunch of it. I mostly play osu! on PC these days since we've never seen a sequel for the west yet.
This pretty much gives away the fact the NX has a touch screen.
On one hand, those games are awesome, but on the other hand, I wouldn't want to break my touch screen...
Love these games! Never tried the remake in English, I'm guessing it couldn't come close to the originals.
@Asaki
I'm the same, I scratched my original DS to bits playing The World Ends With You.
YEE! That was one of my most played DA games back in the day, I've been DREAMIN' of a follow up, I got both Ouendan games beause I needed MOAR EBA. I remember asking a Nintendo rep that an Elite Beat Agents game would be perfect for the Wii U, and they agreed, but alas, it didn't happen.......maybe, just maybe.......
.....HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. If Ouendan 3 does happen, region locking better take a hike, also the game(s) should come with a screen protector!
@SheldonRandoms Lol, I was just going to comment that this would be a day one purchase but don't kill my touch screen this time! A screen protector is a great idea!
I always missed more Ouendan on my 3DS, so I'm in all the way if this happens.
Who cares about Ouendan? Bring back Gitaroo Man!
Nah, but it'd really great to see iNiS do something in general.
I love Ouendan much more than EBA and since Nintendo loves screwing us with a Region Lock I'm cautiously excited about this news.
crosses fingers for a future without region locking
One of my favorite games on the DS. It never caused permit damage to the screens either. I would love to see this game return in some form once again.
I would pay so much money for a new ouendan game. Not really a huge EBA fan but I'd buy it to support the franchise.
I absolutely loved EBA and both Ouendan games. They were awesome and I always wanted a new game in the series, but sadly that never happened, as of yet anyway.
I really hope we'll see another one of these. But please, don't make it Japan exclusive, because the NX will probably be region locked again, knowing Nintendo.
I love Ouendan! It was one of the few games I have ever imported. (Along with Rhythm Tengoku, Mother 3 and Giftpia.)
Give me EBA 3D, with popping strips, swanky covers, DLC packs, and for the love of Jumping Jack the skip-end-of-song-scenes function from Ouendan 2, I'll be happy and broke.
Oh, and anyone here played Demons' Score for smartphones? SQEX eventually pulled it, but once I got a modern phone (rather than my aging iPod), it was available through my Purchases on-device (sadly, not on PC), and I could even still buy the last character I was missing...SATAN!
@DiscoGentleman Dug out Ouendan 1 and 2 and I'm replaying for old time's sake.
